Led Zep drops rough mix of “Whole Lotta Love” from the upcoming remasters…

Led Zep dropped the rough mix of “Whole Lotta Love” from Led Zep II remasters, the deluxe editions. It’s different from the original recording. There’s no guitar solo in this version ’cause remember, it’s just a “rough mix”. They add in the guitar solo and all of those weird amp noises in the final cut.

I do love it, though.

I’m looking forward to getting the remasters. The first three Led Zeppelin remasters will be released June 3rd which is next week. The remasters for all 10 Led Zeppelin studio albums are all done, they’re just releasing a little bit at a time. I’ll probably end up getting all of them being the Led Zep fanatic that I am.

Jimmy Page debuts Led Zep remasters at live event in Paris today…

10371508_671496439589464_8358835594587290482_n

Man, I would have loved to travel to Paris just to see this event. That would be amazing!!! I tried to listen to the live stream on my Ipad but the live-stream sucks up here. I did hear a little bit of the new remasters from Led Zep II and III. What I heard was extremely impressive! They definitely sounded different than the original Led Zep albums.

Not a lot of fans know this but Jimmy Page is a master in the studio. This is one of the things that he is so underrated at. He gets a lot of recognition for his guitar playing, of course but it’s his recording and producing that is overlooked the most. If you read Jimmy’s interviews in the past, the man took the studio very seriously. He knows exactly what sounds he wants out of Led Zeppelin music. He certainly didn’t fuck around for sure!!!

Without Jimmy Page’s masterful producing and recording skills, Led Zeppelin wouldn’t have become legends that they are now. Their records would have been shit if somebody else recorded them.

I think I’m definitely gonna get the remasters. People accused them of a “cash grab” with these remasters but after thinking about it a while… I disagree.

This is just Jimmy’s way of keeping Led Zep’s legacy alive. There’s a ton of new generation of music fans who probably never heard of Led Zeppelin and I think that’s the point of the remasters to help attract newer people to their music. Plus, the longtime fans of Led Zep can celebrate the music again with these new remasters. I’m definitely looking forward to them!

I’m sure the Paris live event will be all over youtube soon so I’ll get to watch it then.

Led Zeppelin sued for plagiarism again but this time for their anthem, “Stairway to Heaven”…

Throughout the years of their career, Led Zeppelin have always been accused of ripping off songs by other musicians claiming they wrote it first. Even regular music fans have accused the band of stealing songs. Led Zeppelin have also been sued many times. I remember blues legends, Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters both sued the band. I think Willie Dixon was victorious over the lawsuit, though. I remember back in 2010 a folk singer sued Led Zeppelin accusing the band of ripping off, “Dazed and Confused”.

This time, a band by the name of Spirit have sued the band accusing them of ripping off the opening intro for “Stairway To Heavens”. Fans argued that “Stairway” is very similar to Spirit’s song, “Taurus”, which this is nothing new. This has been a debatable topic for decades.

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/led-zeppelins-stairway-to-heaven-targeted-for-plagiarism-20140519

In defense to the band, I don’t think Led Zeppelin stole songs or ideas at all. I call it “borrowing”. It’s called inspiration. Looking after the music you loved over the years. I’m tired of people accusing Led Zeppelin of stealing song ideas. Where was the outrage when classic rock bands like the Doors, the Beatles, and the Stones did the same exact thing??? A lot of bands are copy cats out there, don’t fucking accuse Led Zeppelin.

That’s the problem with Led Zep. The more legendary and the bigger the band gets more and more greedy musicians will sue the band accusing them of something. Why? Because that’s it, other bands & musicians are greedy. Why sue them now when they should have done it a long time ago??? Other bands accuse Led Zeppelin as a way for a money making opportunity or they are just pissed that Led Zeppelin is more successful than them. Take your pick.

Sometimes in songwriting, when you write a song… it might sound like another one but you never heard the other one before. Sometimes plagiarism happens by accident, ya know?  Coincidence is probably the correct word I’m looking for and I’m calling it that.

First three Led Zeppelin remasters announced…

Jimmy Page have been talking about re-releasing all Led Zeppelin albums into re-masters along with unreleased material and outtakes. Led Zeppelin have finally announced it today. They will release the first three Led Zeppelin re-masters. You have a choice whether or not you want to get ’em on CD or vinyl or both. You also have an option whether or not you want the Deluxe editions or the regular edition. They will be released on June 3rd.

http://www.ledzeppelin.com/buy/

As a die-hard Led Zeppelin fanatic, I’m probably gonna buy the Deluxe editions on CD ’cause I want the unreleased stuff.

I’m happy that Jimmy Page is finally releasing these but to be honest, I want him to stop wasting time & money on Led Zeppelin so much when he should release a new project of his own. Come on Jimmy, release a new album already. Whether he’ll do a new solo album or another band, I just want him to release something new. Do we get that? Nope. Sure enough, more Led Zeppelin material.

Happy 65th birthday, Robert Plant!!!

Ya know, I hate when people hate on Led Zeppelin and bash Robert Plant. These guys need to be respected. Love ’em or hate ’em, Led Zeppelin is the world’s greatest rock n’ roll band. They were the reasons why I do what I do. They made me the musician that I am. As a kid, when I heard Led Zeppelin for the first time, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life… play guitar. I wanted to play like Jimmy Page. I don’t know if you notice but most of my songwriting has been borrowed from Led Zeppelin quite often. That’s where my tight and aggressive guitar playing comes from. I get that by listening to way too much Led Zeppelin.

Back to Robert Plant, he may not sing that great like he used to but he is STILL a great rock n’ roll singer and performer. I’ve always respected Robert through his Led Zeppelin and solo careers. I think his solo albums: “Manic Nirvana” and “Fate of Nations” were his best solo albums. I also loved the album he did with Alison Krauss.

Even though there may never be another Led Zeppelin reunion — who knows — maybe Robert and Jimmy will collaborate on a second album together. Robert and Jimmy has been best friends forever so I think they will do more projects even though it’s not Led Zep. Maybe Jonesy will join them on a side project. Anything is possible.

Happy Birthday, and thanks Robert!

Cool Video: Heart performs “Stairway” at Kennedy Center honors…

There was live music at the Kennedy Center Honors but Led Zep didn’t perform, of course. Instead, they had other artists perform for them. Here is Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, performing “Stairway”, with an unknown band and Jason Bonham on the drums. It was a killer performance, but my only negative was the choir. You see, I’m  not knocking the choir, I  think they did great but the choir wasn’t needed. I think it was just there for show. “Stairway” doesn’t really need a church choir backing the song up. Ann could have sang the song fine without them. I’m not saying the choir sucked, it just wasn’t needed, that’s all. I mean, a lot of people mistakenly wants to believe that “Stairway” is a religious song, but I never thought it was a religious song and I don’t think that was Robert’s intention when he wrote the lyrics.

A lot of people are talking about Robert’s emotions when he’s watching the performance, trying to fight back tears. Um, I don’t think Robert’s the only emotional one here. All three of those guys: Jonesy, Robert, and Jimmy looked like they were about to cry. Even Jason too.

Other than that, this was a phenomenal performance. If  they got rid of the choir, the performance would have been even better.

I also loved the look on Jimmy’s face when that guy in the band started playing the guitar solo. The look on Jimmy’s face is priceless. Jimmy is probably saying to himself, “This guy is better than me, damn!”

Enjoy!

Led Zeppelin’s “Celebration Day” movie…

So I watched Led Zeppelin’s “Celebration Day” this afternoon. Yes, the guys in Led Zeppelin maybe getting old. They may have tuned most of their well known songs down so they can fit Robert’s voice. Robert may not be a screamer anymore like he used to be. No matter your opinion on the band, they still killed it that night in 2007 at the 02. I just sat there watching the concert, being totally mesmerized of 4 guys just rockin’ out on stage and enjoying themselves.

Remember what I said, when their 2007, 02 concert, was full of hits and not enough obscure, Zeppelin songs? I was absolutely wrong! The concert was full of obscure Zeppelin songs that were either never played before live or wasn’t played much. Songs like, “For Your Life”, was a song never played live before. That song off their album “Presence”. Their song, “Ramble On” was played live a few times but never in full. This show they did play, “Ramble On” in full which hasn’t been done before. They also played, “Trampled Under Foot”, and “Nobody’s Fault But Mine”, which those songs weren’t played too much over the years in their career. The rest of their set list were their greatest hits.

As I was watching the movie, I felt like I was really watching Led Zeppelin performing on stage. I felt like I was really there, wishing I was.

Their set list is still missing many of their famous and most important songs, though. They should have threw, “Heart Breaker” in there somewhere. I also wished they played, “Achille’s Last Stand”, “Immigrant Song”, “The Rover”, “Communication Breakdown”, “Dyer Maker”, “The Rain Song”, “Gallows Pole”, “Friends”, “Out On the Tiles”, “How Many More Times”, etc.

I can understand why the tour rumors kept going because at the 2007 show, the fans wanted to hear the greatest songs that weren’t played that night. The fans wanted the band to continue on, so they can get a chance to play all of their songs live and vary up their set lists. Will Led Zeppelin ever get back together again? The band may keep denying it. The fans may doubt them, but I still say, “Never say never”. I mean, christ. The Who, is still playing without Keith Moon. So why not? I still find it a possibility that Led Zep could get back together again. Maybe not this soon, but sometime down the road.

It pisses me off that people would want to criticize legendary bands on “aging”. You see. Age doesn’t make a difference in music. As long as you have the talent and the skill, who cares about the fuckin’ age, ya know? Age is just a number. That’s all it is. Musician’s don’t give up music. They’re all going to keep playing music until they’re dead, that’s all there is to it.

Back to the “Celebration Day” Blu Ray, it was a good concert movie. My only disappointment that there were no extras. No behind the scenes footage or no backstage footage or any of that stuff. It is a must own for any Led Zep fan, though. It is worth getting. Do yourself a favor and check it out. They are still rock n’ roll genius’s.

Led Zeppelin, now in the Itunes store!!!

Led Zep fans! First AC/DC have a change of heart with Itunes, and now Led Zeppelin, joins in. Led Zeppelin is another famous band who have avoided Itunes for years, and now their entire catalogue is now purchasable in the Itunes store.

I don’t need to buy their albums in Itunes ’cause I own all of them on CD, anyway. Well, except for “In Through the Outdoor”, I might get that just one from Itunes.

I’m about to watch the Led Zep interview with Charlie Rose on “CBS This Morning”.

Led Zeppelin interview on David Letterman last night…

I stayed up to watch the Led Zeppelin interview on Letterman, and it was pretty funny and humorous. The guys in Led Zep have a good sense of humor. Of course, Robert and Jimmy did the most talking, though. Jonesy stayed quiet throughout most of the interview, although, he did crack a few jokes. They talked about the stuff that I predicted the other day with the interview. Just the Kennedy Center award, the career of Led Zeppelin, and the Celebration Day release. David Letterman, didn’t ask the band any upcoming reunion questions, which is weird. Letterman must have been told by the band that he couldn’t ask upcoming reunion questions. Which is understandable, the boys in Led Zep must be getting sick of the reunion questions, already! It was still a great interview, though. The dudes in Led Zep, seem like they’re very good guys.

Led Zeppelin has more interviews coming up, as they will be on Charlie Rose soon which  I don’t know the date they’re gonna be on yet, and I just found out this morning that Led Zep will have an interview for the next Guitar World magazine, as  they will be on the cover for the next one.

With all this hype of the Celebration Day release and Led Zep refusing to talk upcoming reunions, it’s giving me this feeling inside that another reunion might actually happen after all, and I’m sure it’s giving other fans this feeling too. Maybe the band is just waiting for the right time to announce it?

Edit to add: Here’s the video of the interview from last night, to those who missed it.

Cool Video: President Obama’s great speech on Led Zeppelin…

While I hate President Obama, this is a great thing he’s doing for a change. Honoring, a band who created American history, and inspired so many lives in this country. Especially mine. Led Zeppelin is the reason I play guitar. See? Even Obama himself is wondering if the 02, 2007 performance will be their last gig ever. Obama said, “The last time the band performed together was in 2007, perhaps, the last time ever but we don’t know”. How about that? I’m being positive on Obama for once!
