Hugh Jackman just won’t give up the Wolverine character…

Even if Hugh Jackman still has James Mangold’s, “The Wolverine“, coming out in 2013, which I plan to see, he’s not yet, done with the character. Jackman is currently in negotiations, to return as the Wolverine once again in Singer’s, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” the sequel to “X-Men: First Class”. Jackman has played the Wolverine character too much. From the original X-Men trilogy to the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” film.

How much longer is Jackman planning to keep playing this character? The man is 44 years old now, and I can see him stopping somewhere at 55 – 60. He is talented and I can’t see no one else playing the Wolverine but, Jackman.

The Wolverine has always been my favorite Marvel character. He must love this character too much and you can tell. Will Jackman’s appearance in “Days of Future Past” will be a big one? I don’t think so, sounds like it maybe a cameo appearance to me but we’ll wait and see. “Days of Future Past” is getting even more interesting. I thought “X-Men: First Class” was great, hopefully this film will be even better, now that Singer is back at the helm.

Edit to add: I forgot, Hugh Jackman did have a cameo in “X-Men: First Class” too, but he wasn’t quite the Wolverine yet…

Report: Bryan Singer announces Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will return for the upcoming “X-Men” film…

This is great news! Bryan Singer announced the surprising news today, that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be reprising their roles for the upcoming, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” film. There will be the young Professor X/Magneto and the old ones. Keep in mind that the new X-Men movies are prequels to the trilogy, so it’s looking like Patrick and Ian will have their appearances in the new film in smaller roles for the end of the movie, when the characters are grown up.

It’ll be nice to finally see Patrick Stewart back on the big screen, in a big way, finally. Patrick slowed down in acting so he can do theater and Broadway stuff like, “Macbeth”. Patrick still acted in film but he did a lot of voice work for animated films and smaller projects.

Patrick last had a cameo as Professor X, in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in 2009. It’ll be nice to see him in a longer role, this time.

More on the story, here.

Report: Joss Whedon officially on board for “The Avengers” sequel!!!

In the beginning, Joss Whedon wasn’t sure if he was going to be on board to be director for, “The Avengers” sequel, now it appears that he is on board! I can’t see no one else but him directing these movies ’cause no one else could make it as good as he does. I’m glad he’s on! I thought “The Avengers” was one of the best movies of this year, so far. I was very impressed with the film.

Yes, I’m sure Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye will return but I’m sure, they will add a few more heroes to the team. I’m sure Tom Hiddleston will return as Loki, but they will probably add a few more villains too.

“The Avengers” was a pretty big team. I never read the comics, but I know they keep adding more members as they go along.

I can’t wait for the Blu Ray release of “The Avengers”.

AICN, reports.

Film Review: The Avengers

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston

Directed by: Joss Whedon

Well, I finally went out and saw it this afternoon. Finally, saw, “The Avengers”! Here is my review…

Plot/synopsis: Nick Fury is director of S.H.I.E.L.D, an international peace keeping agency. The agency is a who’s who of Marvel Super Heroes, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When global security is threatened by Loki and his cohorts, Nick Fury and his team will need all their powers to save the world from disaster.

Over the last several years, the movie industry has gone crazy over Superhero flicks. Both Marvel and DC kept coming out with them. Trying to make every superhero movie from the comics they could think of. It was only a matter of time that Hollywood was going to give: Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor their own film by Marvel. At the end of each of those films, they keep teasing the Avengers is on the way. Well, the Avengers is finally here, the wait is finally over. Most of the superheros in the Avengers were played by the original actors from the original films except for Ed Norton as the Hulk. Remember, Marvel fired Ed Norton and was replaced by Mark Ruffalo instead. While it is sad that Ed Norton was not a part of this movie, I thought Mark Ruffalo did a great job playing, Bruce Banner. I have been a fan of these characters for years, and it was awesome seeing them all on the big screen in one movie. Of course, they added a few more characters in the Avengers from the comics. Black Widow (played by Scarlett) and Hawkeye (played by Jeremy).

On with my thoughts on the movie, it was a perfect superhero film. Over the years, Hollywood has been trying to make a great superhero film, but most of the superhero films over the years haven’t been that good. Finally, we get a great one that we can walk out of the theater with smiles on our faces! There are no complaints about this film at all. The film was a good long 2 and a half hours. It was action packed. The film was well acted by everyone in the cast. The pacing of the film was very well done. The action scenes is what impressed me the most. It was an action packed ride for sure and I even liked the fight scenes with Scarlett Johansson. After seeing Scarlett in those fight scenes, makes me wish Marvel would give Black Widow her own movie, solo sometime in the future.

I also loved the visuals and special effects with this movie. I hate most of today’s 3D movies. Today’s 3D is mostly bad, but I was very impressed with the 3D in, “The Avengers”. They did a good job with the 3D this time around. The score of the film is what made you kept watching all the way through. The music composed in the film was brilliant. Why can’t other superhero films be just as good as this? The question that I’m wondering, will, “The Dark Knight: Rises” and “Man of Steel”, be just as good as “The Avengers”? I don’t know about that one. Joss Whedon was a perfect choice of director for “The Avengers”, and I couldn’t see anybody else doing it. I admired Joss Whedon’s work for a while, especially his great sci-fi film, “Serenity”, which is a film that I love. I’m already hoping Joss, will do the sequel for “The Avengers”. I hope he stays on. Of course, Stan Lee, makes a cameo in this movie just like he appears in all Marvel flicks.

This was one of the best superhero films I’ve seen in a long time. I’m definitely getting this film on Blu Ray when it comes out.

Score for “The Avengers” = **** (4 stars as in “Excellent”)

Report: Marvel hires their very first female director to helm the “Thor” sequel…

Now this is interesting! Marvel studios have been making movies based on their comics for years and they’ve never had a female director. Well, they finally hired one. Patty Jenkins will be the one helming the “Thor” sequel. She was the one who brought us the movie, “Monster”, starring Charlize Theron and Chrstina Ricci.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

The first “Thor” movie was great, and I’m not much of a Marvel fan either. Hopefully she does a good job with the sequel. Maybe Patty is a huge Thor fan herself, so she might know her stuff from the comics. I’m sure this will bother some people that a female director is in charge of the sequel, but I’m sure she’ll do the film justice. Women could probably make a Thor movie better than men can. I think the “Thor” character has been mostly aimed at women audiences. The “Thor” character has always been popular with women for years.

Report: Marvel wins copyrights to some of their characters over legal battle against Jack Kirby…

Marvel just won a huge lawsuit battle against the heirs of Jack Kirby. Jack Kirby co-created some of the Marvel characters with Stan Lee such as Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. The Jack Kirby estate sued Marvel when Disney bought the company in 2009, they wanted complete control of those characters I mentioned.

The reason Marvel won the battle is because the characters were a “work for hire” thing, which is not entitled for copyright law to revoke the rights.

Congrats Marvel! If they were successful on scoring the copyrights from their characters, then Warner Bros. could have a chance in winning the full copyrights to “Superman” against the Siegel heirs. I’m pretty sure Warner Bros. will win their battle too. It would be sad if the Siegel’s won and they get full control of Superman, then Warner Bros. will no longer make more “Superman” movies after Zack Snyder is done with his. I wish Warner Bros. good luck.

Film Review: “X-Men: First Class”

Directed by: Matthew Vaughn

Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence

Yesterday afternoon, before I went to see, “Battle of the Bands” at SPAC, I went to the mall to check out “X-Men: First Class” and do a little fun shopping after. I bought a few more books of the Game of Thrones “Song of Ice and Fire” series: “Clash of Kings” and “Storm of Swords”. Looking forward to reading the next book, “Clash of Kings” because I’m almost done reading the first one, “Game of Thrones”. I also picked up a few music CD’s from Best Buy. I picked up, Eddie Vedder’s new album, “Ukulele Songs” and Black Label Society’s new album, “The Song Remains Not the Same”.

On with my review….
Plot/synopsis: This is a prequel to Bryan Singer’s first “X-Men” movie. The story is the beginning of Magneto and Professor X. It started with their childhood to being grown men. The story tells how Magneto and Professor X became best friends, discovering their powers and having fun with it. They learn that other mutants have similar powers but each mutant can do different things. Together, Magneto and Professor X get together with the other young mutants to train each other their powers on how to use them better. The film features a lot of mutants from the X-Men comics such as Mystique, the White Queen, Beast, and Riptide. Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) knew Magneto since his childhood and Sebastian was the first one to discover Magneto’s powers. Sebastian starts his own group called, the Hellfire Club, because he was obsessed with taking over the world. President Kennedy announces that a Russian freighter is moving nuclear missiles to Cuba, so Professor X’s mutant team tries to stop that from happening to save the world.

That’s all I’ll go with the plot. I know there has been too many superhero films these days. They’ve been coming out like crazy. Most new superhero movies aren’t that great. In “X-Men: First Class”, I thought the writing was intelligently done, it was smart writing. Who ever wrote the script, is obviously a huge X-Men fan and he knows his shit with the characters, and the story. The screenwriter took it very seriously and I can tell. The writing was insightful, detailed and smart.

The acting of the cast was very well done. Could there be a few Oscar nominations with the acting in this movie? Maybe Kevin Bacon will get nominated for Sebastian Shaw, because I was impressed with him the most. Kevin Bacon played a lot of villain characters in movies such as “The River Wild”, “Hollow Man”, “Sleepers”, etc. I thought this was Kevin’s best villain role. Kevin did an excellent job playing a villain you really want to hate. He was a real psycho in this movie. I was also very impressed with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, they teamed up well together. I also loved Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, she was perfect for the character.

The movie is very action packed. The action scenes were pretty epic, a thrill ride. I thought the special effects and sound were beautiful. The musical score was amazing as well. Yes, the film had the whole package. It was a perfect superhero film. I thought this was the best new superhero film since “The Dark Knight”. Seriously, I had a fucking blast watching, “X-Men: First Class”. I was never bored and didn’t fall asleep once. This film made you wonder what it would be like if Mutants actually existed for real in this world.

Yes, Hugh Jackman makes a cameo in this film. No cameo from Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen though which is the only disappointing thing about this film. I’m sure there’s going to be a sequel where Professor X and Magneto face off each other.

Do yourself a favor and check this movie out this weekend! I FUCKING LOVED IT! I would go see it again!

Score for “X-Men: First Class – **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Film Review: Thor

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins

Directed by: Kenneth Branagh

Well today, I decided to go to the movies for something to do. Get out of the house for the day. I’ve been wanting to see the new “Thor” movie for a long time. Now it’s finally here, I went and saw it. Here is my review.

Plot/Synopsis: In 965 A.D., King Odin (Hopkins) sends his warrior son, Thor, from Asgard to Earth, in our present time, forcing him to live with humans. Of course, when Thor first arrived in Earth in our present time, he had a lot to learn and didn’t understand Earth. So Natalie Portman’s character, Jane Foster, tries to guide him living on Earth. She becomes a love interest for Thor. One of the most dangerous villains from Thor’s home land of Asgard, comes to invade Earth to try and kill Thor. Thor tries to save Earth from his enemies.

As a kid, I used to love reading Thor comics, so I was already a big fan of the character. I was a little worried that this film might suck since most Marvel movies aren’t that good, but, I was actually very impressed with Marvel’s “Thor”. This film actually told a superhero story, the right way. It stayed true to the comics.

The casting was really great and the acting was not that bad. I thought Chris Hemsworth as Thor, was a very good choice. Anthony Hopkins has been my favorite actor for years. Anthony always pulls off really good acting chops no matter what role he does, that guy can do anything.

I hate 3D movies. Most 3D movies are pretty bad, but I thought a 3D, “Thor” was very fitting. The 3D effects were very cool on Thor and that’s what the character needed to be cool. The special effects and the CGI made it feel like you were watching a movie, and not a cartoon. The special effects in the film was crazy.

There is something for everyone in this film. Action, suspense, comedy, romance, etc. It’s all there. I think this is the best Marvel superhero movie out of them all. They did a great job with “Thor”. I am so looking forward to the sequel already! I would go see this flick in theater again!

Score for “Thor” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Cool Video: In defense, of “The Governator” cartoon that Arnold is doing…

A lot of people online are giving Arnold’s next acting project, “The Governator” cartoon series mixed reviews. Some negative and some positive. I believe people are disappointed that Arnold came out with a cartoon first instead of a big screen live action movie.

In defense to Arnold about this, he needs to explain his comeback to Hollywood somehow. This cartoon is a perfect way to explain his comeback to the movies after this. It’s their way of hyping his return to acting. I think this cartoon is a great idea. It’s a test to see if people care about Arnold coming back to acting. That’s what I think.

I think the cartoon looks pretty cool, and I’ll probably check out the first episode when it comes on TV.
