Bob Rock claims Jimmy Page and Jack White loved Metallica’s “St. Anger” album…

Bob Rock, who produced the 2003 Metallica album, “St. Anger” went on to Chris Jericho’s podcast show to talk about the album and other things. Bob Rock defended the album by claiming that Jimmy Page and Jack White telling him that they loved it. He then went on to defend the production of the album, the sound quality of Lars’s drums and the album having no guitar solos.

Read more here, Bob has some interesting things to say about “St. Anger”…

I know it’s not everyone’s favorite Metallica album but I loved it ever since the album came out and still do. It’s unique and different. I respect them for that album ’cause after many years of playing thrash metal all the time…the band decided they wanted to get away from that and try something new. That was the goal of this album, I believe. They wanted a break from the thrash metal stuff.

No matter what people thought of the album, the album is still pretty heavy and tight though. Just listen to the songs. I think “Frantic” and “Some Kind of Monster” are the best songs off the album, though. Seriously guys, you should really give this album another chance. Listen to the album. Actually listen to it all the way through with the volume cranked up and you would hear that it’s not that bad at all.

This album is still “metal”… just a different feel of it. I think “St. Anger” has Hetfield’s best singing by the way too.

I don’t understand music fans. They’re always hating on Metallica on “EVERYTHING” and yet, they keep begging for more music from them. How much do you wanna bet that when Metallica’s new album comes out this year… everybody will be shitting on it?

“St. Anger” is a pretty sick album, in my opinion. I don’t hear anything wrong with it.

Laurie Anderson says David Bowie thinks “Lulu” was Lou Reed’s best work and I agree…

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame had their ceremony over the weekend, just last Saturday. Laurie Anderson who is Lou Reed’s wife/widow gave a speech at the Hall of Fame in honor of her late husband who just got inducted.

While she spoke, she revealed that David Bowie told her that Lou Reed’s final album with Metallica, “Lulu” was his best work. Bowie said to Laurie, “Listen, this is Lou’s greatest work. This is his masterpiece. Just wait, it will be like Berlin. It will take everyone a while to catch up.”

When Bowie mentioned the album, “Berlin” that was Lou’s solo album released in 1973. When that album first came out, that album wasn’t received well by critics and fans either. Today, “Berlin” is considered a masterpiece.

Bowie is saying the same thing will happen to “Lulu” and I agree.

Music lovers today may have a hard time enjoying the Lou Reed and Metallica album, “Lulu” but give it time… 10 to 20 years from now, everyone will look at it as a masterpiece. Sometimes it does take 20 years to get people to realize how good of an album it is.

I’ve always thought, “Lulu” was a work of genius ever since I heard it. I couldn’t stop listening to the album. The music was really powerful and so were the lyrics.

When people shit on the album, they just don’t understand “art”. The music on “Lulu” wasn’t made to entertain people. They were meant to tell stories and create art, the way I look at it. I thought “Lulu” was a beautiful record. Despite the negative criticism of the album, it made no. 36 on the Billboard 200 so that’s pretty successful.

While I do love the album myself dearly, “Junior Dad” was the best song off of it, though. Listen to the track below.

Congrats to Lou on making the Hall of Fame finally and RIP. I really was bummed about his passing, he was my favorite artist for years.

Why lack of bass guitar on Metallica’s “And Justice For All” album? It’s because Lars didn’t want any….

While Metallica is one of my favorite bands, the one thing that I will admit that they are not good with is “sound quality” for their albums. They’ve never have been good at “sound quality” and producing their records. You can blame that on Lars ’cause Metallica is his baby and he seems to be calling all the shots. Lars started the band himself years ago so he’s the band’s leader and boss, I guess.

Fans complained for years on the sound quality on their iconic album, “And Justice For All” on why there are no bass lines on the album. Jason Newsted did record bass parts for the album but Lars wanted the bass to be turned way down in the mix.

Ever Wondered Why ‘…And Justice For All’ Had No Bass? The Riddle Has Now Been Solved

Hmmmmm… that could explain why you could barely hear Rob Trujillo’s bass on the “Death Magnetic” album. Lars wanted Rob’s bass to be turned down on that album as well? I wouldn’t be surprised. When Metallica releases their next album this year, don’t be surprised that Rob’s bass would be turned down again.

Hear “And Justice For All” album with Jason’s bass turned up in the video below. I agree the album sounds a lot better with the bass turned up. They sound a lot tighter too.

While “And Justice For All” is one of my favorite Metallica albums, I agree that the sound quality on it could have been better. It sounds more like a demo than an album, in my opinion.

Lars Ulrich says new Metallica album is pretty close to being completed…

Lars of Metallica gave us an update on the band’s new upcoming album. They have at least 20 songs for it so far and they are still honing them and tweaking them. In other words, putting on their finishing touches. Once they get that done, I’m sure they’ll pick the songs for the album which should be about 10 – 15 songs depending on how long they are. You know, Metallica always loved to write long songs. I’m sure it’ll be the same format for this album. Once they pick all the songs they’re happy with, I’m sure they’ll do all the mixing and mastering next.

Metallica doesn’t plan to shove this album in our faces like Beyonce or U2 did. Will their new song “Lords of Summer” make it on there? Who knows. We’ll have to wait and see. One thing with Metallica, they put together songs for albums that whatever works for the album itself not because we all like it. Whatever works for the band. So don’t be surprised if they don’t include that song for the next album.

That’s how these guys make their albums. Just record a bunch of songs and release the best ones.

Look like they’re taking their next album a little more seriously this time and not rushing things ’cause I remember they totally rushed, “Death Magnetic”.

As for a producer, I hope they don’t bring back Rick Rubin or Bob Rock ’cause that would be bad. They need a good producer for once that would give them good sound quality for their music. While Metallica have been my favorite band for years, I’ll admit they could improve their sound quality for their albums ’cause that is one thing the band is pretty bad at. I kind of agree that on “Death Magnetic” you can’t hear Rob’s bass and the album is full of clipping all over. That’s their problem, they’re not the best at production.

I want a good Metallica album with great sound quality that could make everyone happy for once.

Will they go back to thrash metal for this next one? I’m sure some songs would be kind of thrashy yes but I’m sure they’ll create a new sound once again. I’m sure there’s gonna be some slow ballads as well. That’s one thing I love about the band, they change their sound for every album. You never know what they’ll do each album. They’re always unpredictable. Always doing something different.

Metallica finally hits HQ studios for new album…

Here is Rob tracking bass parts for their new upcoming untitled album which is gonna be the follow-up from “Death Magnetic”.

This is the long time studio that Metallica the band owns themselves. This studio is not owned by record labels or anything like that.

Check out the video below of the band giving you a tour of their studios. The video below was probably during the “St. Anger” recording.

Can’t wait for the new Metallica album! \m/

Song Of The Day: “The Memory Remains” by Metallica…

I don’t get all the “Load” and “Re-load” hate, I thought both were really good albums! The band kept away from thrash metal in these two albums. So what? Big freakin’ deal! That’s what bands do. Go different directions in their music. Get over it and stop the hate! “The Memory Remains” maybe one of their well known hits but I think it’s a pretty amazing song. One of their best radio singles, in my opinion. It’s tight, heavy and catchy.

Will Metallica release their new album in 2015? I think there’s a good chance…

Metallica hasn’t released a new album in a long while. Fans are dying for the band to release their follow-up album from 2008’s “Death Magnetic”. What I love about Metallica is that they don’t head into the studio just because their fans want them to. They head into the studio when they’re ready and when they feel the time is right. So therefor, the band goes into the studio on their terms and not everyone else’s. Yeah, it’s true that they take a lot of time in between albums but that’s probably because the band goes on tour more than recording in the studio.

I know how Metallica’s songwriting process works ’cause I’ve seen all of their behind the scenes footage of each album they did. They document every studio session on video. Watch their movie, “Some Kind of Monster” and you would see how the band does things. They just write a bunch of riffs and ideas and then they try to put them together into a song. They won’t stop working on the music until they are happy with it.

Yeah, people want the band to go back to their old-school thrash metal sound. They try to. They tried to do that with their “Death Magnetic” album a little bit, go back to thrash metal. Even though the band tries to go back to their old sound… they can’t. That’s not how music works. Bands & musicians are about moving forward. They just play whatever comes out of them, ya know? That’s all there is to it. There’s no possible way a musician can go back to their old sound they once had. It’s all about musical inspiration.

Will they go back to their old-school thrash metal? Like what they had on albums like “Ride the Lightning”, “Kill ‘Em All” and “Master of Puppets”??? I don’t know. I swore that Lars said in an interview that they’re gonna go back to their early 90’s stuff a little bit. Go back to the “Black Album” era.

However, no matter how many times Metallica tries to make their fans happy… they’re always gonna get complainers and whiners. No matter what kind of music they put out. Even if the next Metallica album is really heavy and tight… fans will always try to find something to complain about. Watch for it. No matter what these guys do, people will always hate, hate, hate. So I can’t blame ’em for not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks.

This band sounds different every album and that’s what I love about ’em. They’re not afraid about going different directions. It’s about evolving. These guys are recording new songs and writing so I’m looking forward to hearing what they got.

Metallica always had the utmost respect from me. I’ve always loved the band no matter how much controversy and negativity that is thrown at them. I’ve always supported the band from day 1 and looking forward to their next album for sure. Don’t be surprised if they go different directions again.

Metallica makes the Guinness Book of World Records due to touring all 7 continents…

Love ’em or hate ’em, Metallica is very successful. They were the first band ever to play all 7 continents of the world which no other band or solo artist have done before. No matter what you think of Metallica, it can’t be denied that this is very impressive. Playing all over the world like that.

I do notice however that Metallica don’t tour the United States that much. They spend most of their lives touring heavily overseas. Why do they tour other countries than the United States??? Probably because they sell more records in other countries than the States.

I was lucky enough to see them live for the first time when they actually made a stop in my area for the “Death Magnetic” tour… they played Albany during that tour and I went to that show. It’s a rare moment to be able to see Metallica live ’cause they’re always touring everywhere. I imagine it’ll be tough for die-hard fans to follow every show of theirs.

I love Metallica but I wish they would do another US tour. This band usually tours the US when they have a new album out. This band are always playing concerts non-stop though. They perform shows all year-long, all year-round.

It just shows that they love what they do. They’ll be playing until they’re dead.

I do wish they would hit the studio again, though. They always seem to be strict about studio… they seem to only record when they want to not because their fans want them to. I guess they start recording new material when they feel the timing is right. We won’t get a new Metallica album this year but probably in 2015, hopefully.

Congrats to Metallica on making Guinness. That’s no surprise, though. I kind of new that they would make the World Records since they are the first band to play all 7 continents. No other band and artist had the balls to do that so that alone should give Metallica the respect they deserve.

Dave Mustaine admits punching James Hetfield in the mouth was a mistake…

I’m glad to see Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield finally getting along after all these years. Ya know, Dave Mustaine could have been a longtime member of Metallica if Dave didn’t mess up and we wouldn’t have gotten Megadeth. I’m a huge fan of both bands. Megadeth and Metallica are both amazing bands. Hopefully their relationship together stays this way. No more feuds. No more drama.

Now that Megadeth and Metallica have finally played concerts together, hopefully Dave and James would do some kind of collaboration in the studio together. That’s long overdue too. I would like a super group with Megadeth and Metallica members… wouldn’t it be awesome to see them do an album together? If Metallica can collaborate with Lou Reed, then why not do an album with Dave Mustaine??? Bring it on, boys! We’re waiting for it!

Dave Mustaine really loves Metallica, you can tell that he does.

Happy 51st birthday, Mr. James Hetfield!!!

A big happy birthday goes out to one of my favorite musicians. I love James Hetfield and Metallica! I don’t care what the haters and their doubters think. Metallica have always been and will always be great. They’ve always been my favorite band!

I’m glad I finally got the opportunity to see Metallica live myself during the “Death Magnetic” tour.

Happy birthday, James and thanks for the great music! Long live Metallica \m/
