Netflix Pick (PS3): Hobo With a Shotgun…

Last night for my Saturday night movie, I decided to watch “Hobo With a Shotgun” because the plot sounded interesting to me.

In the film, Rutger Hauer plays a homeless man who moves into a city named, Hope Town. Which is a city that has a pretty high crime rate. The city of Hope Town, is full of gangs, burglars, rapists, drug users, prostitutes, pedophiles, and corrupt cops. Rutger Hauer’s character , who is called the Hobo, becomes the town’s hero by fighting crime with a shotgun. A prostitute named, Abby, becomes the Hobo’s friend because he saved her life from two rapists from a gang that was lead by a leader named, The Drake. The Drake finds that the hobo is becoming a hero of this town and he wants to kill him out of jealousy rage.

Enough with the plot, but I would have to say I was very impressed with this movie. The movie is a very short 1 hour and 25 minutes long, but the movie was fun and a blast to watch. Rutger Hauer was such a badass in this flick. It was a great action ride. Lot of cool action sequences and gun fights. Warning though: this film is very gory, violent and graphic in this film. This film will make your stomach turn a little bit. Nonstop action and blood.

The movie is filmed old school style even though it was new. It’ll make you feel like watching a 70’s B-movie. It felt like a Quentin Tarantino or a John Carpenter flick even if those two guys didn’t do the movie. The film was directed by Jason Eisener.

After watching this film, I wish there could be a sequel now, but there probably won’t be because of the ending. I won’t spoil things for you but I can give you a hint that the good guys don’t always win in this movie. That’s another thing that I liked about it.

The Drake was a really cool movie villain too and he’ll piss you off every time you saw his face on screen. You get all these superhero comic book movies with some guy dressed up in a suit, saving the day, but a homeless guy have to fight crime too right? This movie is actually pretty realistic too, I was surprised. You also felt sorry and kind of sad for the Hobo too.

I really liked the film a lot. One of my favorite action films of this year. Check it out when you get a chance.

“24” is my new Netflix addiction!!!

Over the weekend, I have decided to start watching Kiefer Sutherland’s “24” on Netflix. I’m already addicted to the show and watched the first 8 episodes of Season 1 already. It’s another one of those shows that will immediately grab you and keep you hooked ’til the very end. When “24” used to air on TV in the past, I saw some of the newer episodes but never the earlier show.

Jack Bauer is such a great character, he’s so badass. Glad I finally got into this show. The writing is really impressive. I remember this show being pretty high in the ratings and it was very popular. I can see why now.

I hope the “24” movie for the big screen happens soon ’cause I remember Kiefer said they were planning one.

Thought: After thinking about a while, I don’t think raising the price of Netflix is that big of a deal, chill out people, I think it’s fair!!!

So Netflix announced the controversial price raise to 60%, and of course, they got a backlash for it. I was kind of pissed a little bit at first, but after thinking about it a while, I began to understood why they did this. I’m keeping my Netflix and not canceling.

You know how when you go rent a movie from your local video store in town, well isn’t the cost pretty much the same thing as you watch stuff on Netflix? The same with going to the movies at the theater. It’s no different than watching movies on PPV or the internet either. Do the math and figure it out.

I still support Netflix. I like the company. It’s a lazy way of watching movies & TV shows without having to go to the store to buy or rent the DVD, you can do all that stuff right at home. I also think people are overreacting over the price a little bit. The price raise is an opportunity to help get better stuff to stream on Netflix like newer TV shows and movies like they already have been doing. So I can’t blame them for doing what they are doing.

They are a business. They need money to stay alive. Netflix rocks, they still get my support.

Netflix Pick (PS3): Lost – Season 5

Last week, I just finished, “Lost – Season 5” on Netflix. This season gets really deep into the science fiction stuff ’cause this season concentrates mostly on time travel.

As for the plot, some of the survivors have been rescued by the helicopter pilot, Frank Lapidius (Jeff Fahey) from Season 4. They go back home to the US on Charles Widmores boat. The survivors that go back home are Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, and Desmond, but the rest of the survivors either died or stayed on the island. As the rescued survivors: Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Desmond tries to rebuild their lives back home, Benjamin Linus is trying to get them back together so they can go back to the island. Ben wants the survivors to go back to the island because he claims they need to take care of something so the people can be safe after bad things happened to them after Ben turned the frozen wheel from Season 4.

New characters are introduced that season like Daniel, Miles, and Charlotte who are there to help the survivors stop the time travel experiment that the DHARMA Initiative started. John Locke is appointed as new leader of The Others. Richard Alpert is also a new character introduced that season in which he plays an ageless inhabitant on the island. Richard Alpert teams up with John Locke to try and help find a mysterious man named Jacob. A character named, Horace Goodspeed is also introduced who works for the DHARMA Initiative.

This season is mostly about trying to put an end to time travel. This season is pretty entertaining, but kind of silly and whacky at the same time. I was mostly blown away by the acting of Terry O’ Quinn who plays John Locke and Michael Emerson who plays Benjamin Linus, pretty impressive acting skills by the two of them.

The writing this season can get kind of confusing at times, I guess that’s why they call the show, “Lost” because they want you to get lost with the stories. Season 5 is a good season but not the best, I still say Season 4 is the best season so far.

I’ve just started “Lost – Season 6” only watched the first episode and will watch more of it today. I’m hoping the rest of the show is good.

Report: “Star Trek – The Next Generation” is now streamable on Netflix…

Announced today, all 7 seasons of “Star Trek – The Next Generation” are now streamable for Netflix along with “Voyager” and “Enterprise”. I’m such a huge Star Trek “TNG” fan and I’m looking forward to watching this show all over again.

I’m glad Paramount let Netflix stream Star Trek series, because Star Trek still deserves to get known. Star Trek isn’t for everyone, but I suggest people to try and get into it. I’m a big Trekkie, and quite proud of it too. Have been a Trekkie ever since I was a child.

Thanks to Paramount and Netflix for this. I’m excited!

Netflix Pick (PS3): The Boondock Saints

“The Boondock Saints” movies are the most talked about movies on the internet. I’ve never even seen them before. So since, “The Boondock Saints”, the first one was viewable on Netflix for the PS3, I decided to check it out over the weekend.

It tells the story of twin Irish brothers, named Connor and Murphy MacManus. In the beginning of the film, they kill mafia thugs by accident. They turned themselves in and they were considered heroes by the public for what they did, so the twins were released from jail. After this, they continue to kill mafia gang members while Willem Dafoe’s character who plays Det. Paul Smecker, who is a crazy and weird guy, investigates the killings. As Det. Smecker investigates the crimes, he began to see that the MacManus twins were heroes too.

I can see why this movie is very popular online. I thought it was one of the best action movies I’ve seen in a long time. It was very entertaining all the way through. I was never bored. It’s an action comedy. There’s humor throughout the film as well. I thought the action scenes were fun. I had no problems with this movie at all. Just a perfect action movie and it ended up being one of my top 10 favorite action flicks. Makes me want to see the second one soon, I’ll rent the second one from Netflix on DVD. I don’t have much to say about this movie ’cause when you love a film so much, that’s all you need to say about it.

Netflix Pick: Lost – Season 4

So earlier this week, I have just finished watching “Lost – Season 4” on Netflix. So far, I think this is the best season of them all. Just like the last season the survivors expected to get rescued by a freighter that they just learned about. Turns out, that those people on the freighter aren’t there at the island to rescue them, they turned out to be evil people. Benjamin Linus, the guy who was looking like to be a villain from the last season is turning out to be good by helping the survivors of Oceanic 815 survive from the people on the freighter boat.

The freighter has a group of evil mercernaries and Benjamin Linus announced that one of the survivors is a spy on the freighter. I won’t reveal who the spy is, you’ll figure it out for yourself. A man named, Frank Lapidus (played by Jeff Fahey) is a helicopter pilot of the freighter and he was the only one that was willing to help get the survivors off the island so they can go back home to the United States.

The leader of the mercernaries group, Martin Keamy, in which Keamy has a dead man’s switch device under his arm. If he dies and when his heart stops beating, there is a bomb on the freighter that the bomb will explode. This season focuses on Benjamin Linus trying to help the survivors fight off the people on the freighter that is trying to kill them.

That’s enough with the plot. On with my thoughts of this season. I think this is the best season so far. I think the action scenes in this season is very good and fun. I think this season is also more dramatic and more deep than the earlier seasons. I liked the flash forward scenes. This season would show what each character is like when they’re back home from the island. Back home after the island, Jack appears to be a drug addict on pills. Michael appears to be suicidal. Hurley is back in the mental hospital, and Sayid turned out to be a dangerous killer.

My only complaint that they should have left what happened to Jin, a little more unpredictable. They made it to easy to figure out what was going to happen to Jin, the Korean guy later in the show. This show brings in a mix of genres into one: science fiction, fantasy, romance, action, mystery, suspense, comedy, drama, etc.

I’m almost done with the show, two more seasons left. I will start “Season 5” this weekend sometime. I’m taking a day off watching “Lost” today.

Netflix Pick (DVD): The Hangover

Earlier this evening I finally saw the first movie, of “The Hangover”. I never saw it before. Wanted to, but never got around to it until now. Wanted to see the first one before I decide to see the sequel. It was a DVD rental from Netflix.

The story tells about 4 guys who are best friends, they go to Las Vegas to party & have fun because their friend, Doug was getting married, and this was their way of celebrating for him. When they arrive in Vegas to get a hotel room, they party on the roof of the hotel building, and the next morning, things goes wrong. They find a tiger in the bathroom and a baby in a closet. Plus, their friend Doug was missing. They don’t even remember what happened last night because they were so drunk they couldn’t remember everything. They needed to go find Doug so they can bring him home for his wedding but he was no where to be seen.

I was pretty surprised of this movie. It was very entertaining. There were some scenes where I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at some of it. I thought it was a perfect comedy all around. The writing was great and I like Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms (of “The Office) teaming together. Of course, Mike Tyson’s cameo was the best part of the movie.

“The Hangover” series is the most talked about comedy series on the internet and that’s what made me want to check it out. Hey, I’m a fan of comedies, I like to watch them once in a while. I need to smile and laugh every now and then. I’m looking forward to “The Hangover II” in theater which I will try to see before it stops playing.

I need to see “Super 8” in theater first though. I will go see “Super 8” in theater sometime this week ’cause I plan to pick up the new “Duke Nukem: Forever” game for the PS3.

Back to the first, “Hangover” movie, I really loved it. It was one of the best new comedies I’ve seen in a while.

Netflix Pick: Lost – Season 3

Today, on a rainy day, I decided to finish watching the last few episodes of “Lost – Season 3”. The last season, focused on teasing this group of mysterious people called, “The Others” which is what the survivors on the island called them. The last Season wouldn’t reveal “The Others”.

In Season 3, they revealed who “The Others” were. Ben Lupin, who is the leader/boss of “The Others” was the guy that they held captive from the last season. The Others have taken Jack, Sawyer and Kate prisoner, but they sent Hurley home because he wasn’t needed. They wanted Kate and Sawyer to work on “The Others” campsite, while Jack was being used to operate Ben Lupin who was sick. Remember, Jack is a doctor and surgeon of the series.

This season concentrates on the survivors trying to escape “The Others” hideout. Kate and Sawyer got away but Jack stayed because he made a deal with Ben Lupin that if he’ll operate him and makes him stay alive, then Ben would send Jack home to the USA.

There are new characters introduced in this season like Desmond who has psychic visions and knows what happens to the characters in the future. This season is also much darker and more violent than the last two seasons. The show has a big love triangle between Kate, Sawyer, and Jack.

This season gets more serious on the characters of John Locke and Sawyer, on how their lives were destroyed before their characters crashed on the island. The show treated Sawyer as if he was a badguy/villain of the show but they want to show him that he can be a good guy after all.

This season is about battling against “The Others”, fighting them off for survival. “The Others” are crazy and psychotic people who thinks they own their island. The season ends with the survivors thinking they’re going to get discovered and get rescued. I liked the twists and turns this season. They continue to kill off the good characters.

It was a pretty good season. The show is getting interesting now and looking forward to seeing how the show ends. I’m enjoying the show so far. I like the actor who plays Sawyer, he does the best job at acting than all the other cast members, in my opinion. Looking forward to season 4 which I will start tomorrow.

Netflix Pick (DVD): The Green Hornet

So I finally saw the new “Green Hornet” movie that stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz. I saw it last Sunday night. A Netflix DVD rental.

The movie is obviously adapted from the famous radio show, comics, and TV series. In the TV series, Bruce Lee the martial arts legend originally played Kato. Now, actor Jay Chou takes over the role for the new film. I didn’t see this film in theater, ’cause I was pretty skeptical of it. I don’t like Seth Rogen as an actor. Can’t stand him. He’s a terrible actor. When I heard he was going to star as the main hero, I’m like, “Oh please no, NOT Seth Rogen, anybody but him!” So I waited for DVD rental on this. Which is well worth the wait.

The movie turned out very good and extremely entertaining. I actually liked Seth in this movie. For once, Seth is in a good movie in which he doesn’t make his acting so boring. He actually did a decent job.

The plot actually followed the original story and stayed true to it pretty well. I was surprised. The plot is pretty much the same thing, Britt Reid becomes owner of a newspaper company after his father dies. Britt meets up with a martial arts expert, Kato, in which they end up helping each other stop a robbery. Knowing that their names are in the news and becoming heroes because of it, this is what inspired them to become, “The Green Hornet”. In which they would wear costumes and green masks. Kato would build a bunch of cars in which he turned them into weapons. Kato also invented several gadgets and new weapons for them to fight crime for.

Christoph Waltz plays a villain named Chudnofsky, who is a Russian gangster trying to form a super-mafia in Los Angeles. “The Green Hornet” tries to stop them to save the city.

Just like the original “Green Hornet” series, it adds a lot of comedy and humor throughout the film. Especially the epic fight scene between Britt and Kato at the house which is my favorite scene of the film. The film had some great action scenes and they were pretty fun to see. Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz were also good as well.

I thought this was a pretty good film. I’m a huge Green Hornet fan. Followed the Green Hornet series for years. Check it out when you get a chance.

My next Netflix DVD rental is going to be the first “Hangover” movie. I never saw the first, “Hangover” movie yet, and wanted to see the first one before I decide to see the second one. I should be getting “The Hangover” in the mail tomorrow.
