Report: First Universal Studios drops, “The Dark Tower”, now Warner Bros. refuses to make it…

For reasons unknown, Warner Bros., all of a sudden refuses to make Ron Howard’s “The Dark Tower” series adapted from, Stephen King. First Universal bails out, now WB’s.

Variety reports.

While I do want these movies to be made into big screen movies and TV shows, honestly, I can understand why no studio wants to make it so far. Why? The Dark Tower has a total of 7 books. Ron wants to make 3 big screen movies and 2 mini series, which would be a bit too hectic for a studio to work on. Plus, I’m willing to bet, the budget is the problem. It’s going to be a very expensive project. Would probably cost billions to get these made. It would require a lot of CGI work and stuff ’cause of the different world that Roland is in. It’s going to be very challenging to bring these to the screen.

They’ll probably negotiate with Paramount next, but they probably won’t do it either. They might as well scrap the project if no one wants to do it. Even Javier Bardem don’t even want to do it anymore. This sounds like a pretty overwhelming project. Maybe Ron oughta shorten it up a bit, if he’s serious about this.

Report: Javier Bardem steps out of “The Dark Tower”, Russell Crowe to replace?

Deadline reports that actor Javier Bardem, has stepped out of Ron Howard’s “The Dark Tower” series, with reasons unknown. Bardem has been slated to play as Roland Deschain of Gilead for a while now but looks like he changed his mind. Scheduling conflicts got in the way? He didn’t care for the script? Either way it’s disappointing that he’s stepping down ’cause I think he was perfect for, Roland. I’m kind of skeptical on Russell Crowe though.

If anything, I’ve been saying for years in this blog that Hugh Jackman would make the perfect Roland, so he’s my pick if Russell isn’t down.

The Dark Tower is a pretty risky and challenging project, so I hope Ron does it right and stays faithful to the books.

Thought: Is “The Shining” prequel a good idea? I would say so, yes!

Reports are saying that Warner Bros. are quietly moving forward with an idea of doing a prequel to Stanley Kubrick’s movie, “The Shining”, that starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. It would focus on the events before the original story where Jack, Wendy and Danny Torrance stayed at the Overlook Hotel so Jack can write his novel, later Jack was turned into a madman.

Stephen King announced earlier this year, that he is writing a sequel to “The Shining”, where it would focus on the story of Danny Torrance, the son, as a full grown man. Could there be “The Shining” movie trilogy, on the way? Looks it. If Warner Bros. is serious on a prequel, first they need to get written permission from King obviously. They need to buy the rights off him. I’m sure King would want it to happen ’cause it seems that he wants all of his novels to get turned into movies these days.

Maybe King will write the script for the prequel? Who knows. Anything is possible. There is so much more you can tell with “The Shining” story. As long as they get King involved in the prequel film, somehow, I’ll be all for it.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Overlook Hotel turned out to be. How it became haunted and all that stuff. As long as they make it different and original story, and won’t be a rehash of the original, where a different family goes to the Overlook, I’m all for it. There shouldn’t be a Jack Nicholson cameo for the prequel ’cause he’ll be too old for the role, by now, I’m sure the Jack Torrance name could be brought up in the prequel a few times though.

WB’s could make it good if they make it scary, and keep it in the horror genre. I’m looking forward to hearing King’s thoughts on the prequel to, “The Shining”. He’ll probably respond sooner or later. It seems that King responds through Entertainment Weekly, every time a remake is in the works of his films. A Shining trilogy could be interesting.

Report: “Carrie” remake with Chloe Moretz will hit theaters March 15, 2013…that’s next year, folks!!!

The Stephen King remake of “Carrie” which will star, Chloe Moretz, and Julianne Moore has been added to the casting. Julianne will be playing Carrie’s abusive mother.

More on the story, here.

I love the “Carrie” story. It’s one of my favorite King books too. I know a lot of people are wondering if this remake will be similar to Brian Depalma’s 1976 version, but this new version could be totally different than that. Maybe the remake wants to stay more faithful from the book?

Depalma’s version probably left out so much from the book and probably changed the story around some. In fact, I think the ending between Depalma’s versin of the film and King’s book are totally different. I’ll explain the ending to both with a spoiler warning at the end of this blog post.

I’m not sure of the plot for the “Carrie” remake but it might be slightly different than the Depalma version. “Carrie” is clearly a revenge story. A troubled young girl getting back at her high school who treated her terribly. So she uses her telekinetic powers for retaliation.

She probably will get splattered with pig’s blood but will it be real or CGI???? I hope they don’t use CGI blood.

Here’s the plot to the ending between King’s version and Depalma’s version ****************SPOILERS****************

The ending to Depalma’s version. After the prom scene, Carrie goes back home to her mother. Her mother thinks the devil has taken over Carrie, so she stabs Carrie in the back. Carrie falls down the stairs, so they fight in the kitchen. Carrie uses her powers to make their home collapse with them in it. Later on Sue, a survivor of the prom, has a dream where she is at Carrie’s house where it used to be. Sue places flowers on the ground, a bloody hand reaches and grabs Sues wrist.

Kings version of ending “Carrie” After the prom, Carrie goes home to confront her mother. Carrie’s Mother thinks she’s gone mad, and Carrie kills her own mother, by stopping her heart, using her powers. That’s where Chris and Billy were at the time, so they try to kill Carrie by running her over with a car, but instead, Carrie kills them using her powers. Carrie collapses due to the blood loss. Sue walks to the roadhouse where she finds Carrie laying in the parking lot. They talk telekinetic powers and Carrie blames Sue for it. The book ends with Sue writing a memoir titled, “My Name Is Susan Snell”. She also gets a letter by a woman from Tennesse who has a niece developing telekinetic powers.

***************************END SPOILER******************

You decide which ending they could use for the remake. I’d say they would use King’s version, but they could totally make their own original ending if they wanted as well.

Report: Chloe Moretz is the new Carrie White!!!

MGM studios is in negotiations with young actress, Chloe Moretz (she’s 15), to star as Carrie White in the remake of Stephen King’s, “Carrie”. While this is a nice choice, Chloe and Sissy do look pretty similar to each other, almost like sisters! Sissy played the character when she was 27, so it looks like they are going for younger casting. If you don’t know who Chloe Moretz is, you might have seen her in the film, “Kick-Ass” (she played Hit Girl), and the vampire film, “Let Me In”.

I think a “Carrie” remake, could be pretty good if they did it right. I just hope they don’t ruin the prom scene. The original prom scene from the 1976 film was the best part of the whole movie and the remake might not be able to top it. Who knows, we just might have to wait and see. I’m curious.

Report: Ron Howard’s “Dark Tower”, on it’s way to HBO???

Since Universal Studios dropped, “The Dark Tower” by Ron Howard and Stephen King, Warner Bros. is close to a deal with HBO. HBO may release the three “Dark Tower” films to theaters and they will also air the TV series on their station as well.

I’ve always thought HBO would be a great home for them. This would be good competition against, “Game of Thrones” and “Boardwalk Empire”.

I’m looking forward to the Dark Tower series coming to the big screen and the small screen. I’m a huge fan of the books. Lets hope Ron does justice with them.

Brock reviews Stephen King’s “Bag of Bones” on A&E…

Over the weekend, I watched the premiere of Stephen King’s latest TV mini series, “Bag of Bones”, in which was adapted from one of his earlier novels. The series starred, Pierce Brosnan, who is the leading star. Pierce Brosnan, formerly known as James Bond from, “Goldeneye”.

The film is getting bashed on by most Stephen King fans. It’s getting negative reviews. I hope I’m not the only one that actually liked it because I did. Most are mad because the film didn’t follow the book and people though it was boring. In the film’s defense, I don’t like Brosnan as an actor, never did until now. I thought Brosnan was very likable and pretty entertaining in this role. It was right for him. I think Brosnan playing Mike Noonan felt like a realistic person as if you really knew him well. At times, you actually felt sorry for the guy, he was comical and can get serious a lot. I think he was pretty character driven.

The story tells of a famous writer named, Mike Noonan who just released a new book, and he celebrates the release by doing an autograph signing at a bookstore with his wife, Joanna. Joanna dies of brain aneurism and Mike learns that she was pregnant. After his wife’s death, Mike suffers writers block and couldn’t come up with a new book to write. So he took a vacation to his summer home to help fight writer’s block, and he learns that the place he is staying in is haunted. The ghost of his wife, Jo, is there haunting him and she is trying to tell him about this mysterious woman named, Sara Tidwell, and he must find out what happened to her.

Sure, the movie may not follow the book, but  hell, it’s usually pretty common that all movies based on books are not pretty faithful. This is nothing new to me. I thought the film was pretty creepy and kind of scary at times. It was pretty violent and there was a little bit of blood as well.

I personally think this film would have been better if it was for the big screen instead of TV. It was pretty good for what it was though. Not the best, but the writing and the acting of the other cast need more work, I just thought Pierce made the film enjoyable.

There hasn’t been many good Stephen King mini series over the years. I only loved a few of them like, “IT”, “The Stand”, “The Shining” w/ Steven Webber, and “Storm of the Century”. Now you can add “Bag of Bones”, to that list. “Bag of Bones” was a pretty good ghost story.

Report: “The Dark Tower” TV series will be aired on HBO, but as for the big screen movie, not sure yet…

While promoting the “Tower Heist” movie, Brian Grazer just said, “The Dark Tower” TV series will be aired on HBO. Since Universal dropped out of making the movies for the big screen, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard still haven’t found a movie studio for the films, but they are still looking.

MTV Movies Blog, reports.

HBO is a great network for the show, but it will be a big competition with other popular shows on that station. Shows like “Game of Thrones”, “True Blood”, and “Boardwalk Empire”. I don’t see how “The Dark Tower” is going to top any of those shows, it’ll be hard. “The Dark Tower” shouldn’t be aired on a Sunday night like a few of those shows are being aired on. I think “The Dark Tower” show should be aired on either Thursday or Friday night.

Another question I have is, Javier Bardem is confirmed to play Roland The Gunslinger. Will he still play Roland for the TV series as well? That’s a lot of acting.
