Film Of The Day: The Wrestler

I realize I’ve been silent on these “Film of the Day” things the last couple of days, but I’ll try to do these daily the best I can. I’ll do this now, to get it out of the way.

I think “The Wrestler”, starring Mickey Rourke and directed by Darren Aronofsky, was the best film released in 2008. This is really one of my favorite dramas of all time.

It tells the story of Randy “The Ram” Robinson, who is a professional wrestler who works for small independent wrestling companies such as VFW. He also works a part time job at a grocery store and he has a girlfriend who is a stripper. While Randy, struggles to make money and live his life, things around him start to crumble. He becomes addicted to steroids, he loses his stripper girlfriend, he tries to reconcile with his daughter, and many other things. While he tries to get his life back together, there is one thing that he still loves to do, and that is wrestling.

You see, you don’t have to be a fan of professional wrestling yourself, to watch a movie like this. This movie wasn’t made strictly for wrestling fans. It was made to give people insight on what a professional wrestler’s life is like outside of the ring. This film wants to take a realistic approach on things. It’s not just a movie about professional wrestling either. This movie is about what life could be like when a man is aging. While this movie is about a professional wrestler, there isn’t a lot of wrestling scenes in this movie for a reason ’cause this film wants to let people know that wrestlers can be real, and they can be human like us. A lot of professional wrestlers look after this movie ’cause this movie reminded so much of their own life.

Most importantly of all, it’s the acting of the cast, is what made this movie worked, especially Mickey’s performance, and Marisa Tomei was good too. This is a beautiful film, and sad. This movie will bring tears to your eyes for sure. I believe this film should have won, “Best Picture”, that year. Posting about the movie, makes me want to watch this movie again, maybe I will sometime this week.

“The Wrestler” is one of the best sports movies ever made, just as good as the first “Rocky”!!!

As some of you know, I’m a long time die hard profesional wrestling fanatic. I love the sports entertainment stuff to death. I just got done watching, “The Wrestler” finally, and yes, you betcha, I fucking LOVED the movie! Amazing! Jaw dropping!

Darren Aronofsky, definitely knows his shit with the wrestling business. After watching this film, now I can understand why Vince McMahon didn’t like the film that much because Darren exposed the world what profesional wrestling is really all about. It proved that wrestling is fake, and showed the world what it’s like with wrestlers, steroids, and drugs.

Mickey Rourke is some of the best acting, I’ve ever seen in the flick, he was just as good as Sylvester Stallone in the first, “Rocky”. “The Wrestler” is definitely the “Rocky” of this generation.

“The Wrestler” immediately headed up to one of my top 5 favorite films ever made. Ya know, that public feud with Chris Jericho vs. Mickey Rourke for Wrestlemania, try to understand that they aren’t enemies in real life. I’m pretty sure that Jericho and Rourke are great friends behind the scenes, they acted like enemies as part of a wrestling storyline. So in reality, Jericho doesn’t hate Mickey Rourke and all the wrestling legends, Jericho loves and respects them all, of course. Everything about wrestling you see on TV is scripted and storyline stuff.

I have recognized a WWE wrestler that made a cameo in the movie, and his name is Ron Killings, who now wrestles under the name of R-truth on the Smackdown roster. Ron Killings also used to be the Truth in TNA and K-Kwik.

This was a brilliant movie and pretty realistic too. Even if you’re not a fan of profesional wrestling, I would suggest all to watch this. You would understand why we love it so much.

I just love profesional wrestling and I understand why it’s not for everybody but the wrestling business deserves the respect ’cause they work hard to entertain us and put smiles on their faces. This movie gives you an idea of what it’s like being a profesional wrestler.

I feel bad that Mickey Rourke was robbed of the Oscar. This movie will be talked about for years. Will there be a sequel to this movie ’cause the ending kind of left open for another film? I think this will be a continuing series just like Rocky.

Thought: Oscar night, for gays and lesbians?

Maybe Sean Penn’s “Oscar” win does have something to do with the homosexual theme after all, now that I think about it.

Penelope Cruz won for Best Supporting role for her lesbian character in, “Vicky Christina Barcelona”. The screenwriter for “Milk” , Dustin Lance Black, who is gay in real life won for Best Screenplay.

I think the Academy wanted the show to be for the gay and lesbian community as well.

But those who think Mickey Rourke got robbed, he didn’t get robbed at all. Sean Penn getting the win was the right choice to make. The Academy wanted to give the award to an actor who played somebody that was real. Harvey Milk was a real life guy, something that was a true story.

Mickey Rourke is a new star on the rise, so he got his first Oscar snub. Anne Hathaway is the same way as Mickey Rourke. Anne was up for “Best Actress”, and she didn’t win either.

Besides that, this is just an awards show, right? Who cares about a golden statue, and there’s always another time for Mickey to get nominated again if he picks the right role in the future. These actors don’t really care if they win or lose. Life goes on.

Them continuing to work on movies is more important than a awards show.  Mickey has finally got the recognition in his acting that he deserves, as long as he got nominated in the Oscars, that should be considered an award alone if you know what I mean.

Congrats to Mickey in all of his success. That alone should be more rewarding than an Oscar statue. Like I said, Mickey not winning maybe dissapointing, but Sean deserved it. Mickey getting nominated alone, is a good enough sign that he will one day win one.

Cool Video: Mickey Rourke’s acceptance speech at the Spirit Awards…

Here is Mickey Rourke’s acceptance speech from the Spirit Awards, check it out. It’s hilarious. There’s no holds barred uncensored speeches where they let celebrities speak whatever they want on stage. Probably because this award show was aired on cable pay TV, a channel called IFC. A channel where it is uncut and uncensored. This award show was aired on AMC too but it was probably censored on that channel, but on IFC it wasn’t censored.

Check out the uncensored speech here. Mickey says the word fuck a lot. He also talked about his dog that just died, he gave Vince McMahon and the WWE a nice shoutout, and talked about Marisa Tomei as well.

Will Mickey win an Oscar tonight? I’m hoping, and crossing my fingers, we’ll watch and find out. If Brad Pitt or Sean Penn wins instead, that’ll be dissapointing. The Oscars is on tonight at 8:30 with the red carpet introduction a half hour before it.

I’ll write my thoughts on the Oscars after the show tonight. I’m so dying to see “The Wrestler” so badily, but I got to wait for DVD for it though.

Is Mickey hinting us that he’s going to Wrestlemania?

Check out Mickey Rourke’s pics at the Spirit Awards, he’s holding a WWE World Champ belt from the RAW brand.

Is that a sign that Mickey changed his mind about dropping out of Wrestlemania, and he’s actually going to do it? I’m not sure if that belt that Mickey holding is the actual belt from WWE or a replica.

I’m on the look out for more pics of Mickey Rourke at the Spirit Awards.

Report: Vince McMahon responds to reports about Mickey dropping out of Wrestlemania, Vinnie Mac says actor will still be there?

Vince McMahon, chairman of the WWE, immediately responded to reports about Mickey Rourke dropping out of Wrestlemania. Vinnie Mac denies Rourke dropping out and will still be there. However, Vince refuses to say how he would be there. Whether Rourke will be competing, fighting, wrestling, or having any physical contact with Jericho.

I am now thinking that Rourke announcing the drop out is part of this storyline, like I said before, trying to make it realistic. That way Jericho can go on RAW calling Mickey a coward publicly, and Jericho will end up doing whatever it takes to get him to fight Jericho at WM-25.

I think Rourke vs. Jericho at WM-25 will happen. Keep in mind that this isn’t the first time they tried to make storylines realistic. Remember the Trump vs. McMahon fued? That was pretty realistic. Stone Cold feuding with Mike Tyson in the earlier days, they kept that realistic too. Also, boxer Floyd Mayweather feuding with the Big Show. Don’t forget William Shatner kicking Jerry Lawler’s ass and Bam Bam Bigelow having a match with football legend Lawrence Taylor.

When WWE stars are feuding with other celebrities, they like to try to keep the storyline realistic as possible to hype up Wrestlemania, so don’t take everything WWE does seriously. Rourke announcing the dropout could be scripted.

Report: Stallone confirms he’s planning to make Rambo 5, he also praises Mickey Rourke…

After several months of rumours and speculation whether or not Stallone is going to do a 5th installment to the Rambo series, Sly says, “Yes”. Only problem is, he can’t decide whether to do it in the United States or a different country.

Sly also praises Mickey Rourke for his success in the movie business. Some of you may know that Sly already did a movie with Mickey in “Get Carter”. Mickey next stars in “The Expendables” with Sly, they plan to start shooting this Spring.

Thought: Ric Flair to wrestle Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25 instead of Rourke?

Since the announcement of Mickey Rourke backing out of Wrestlemania for the match against Chris Jericho, I have came to another thought that the legendary Ric Flair could possibly be Jericho’s replacement opponent instead. Notice when Jericho and Rourke were feuding together for a little bit, there was a lot of Ric Flair talk.

Although Ric Flair is a retired wrestler in real life right now, I think he’ll make his one last match at Wrestlemania against Jericho. I don’t think it’s possible that Jericho will take the World Champ belt from Cena, because John Cena will probably keep the belt until Wrestlemania.

The Wrestlemania 25 main event will indeed be Cena vs. Orton, so Jericho’s definitely out of the title shot at Wrestlemania even though Jericho will have a title shot at the next WWE PPV “No Way Out”.

I could be wrong again, maybe Jericho does have a chance at getting the title before Wrestlemania because there’s a few more WWE ppv’s before Wrestlemania. If Jericho does indeed become World Champion before Wrestlemania and faces Randy Orton at the main event, then maybe WWE will have Ric Flair as the special guest refferee for that match.

Ric Flair will probably make a short return to WWE to help stick up for his friend Mickey Rourke. In a storyline, Vince McMahon forced Ric Flair to retire by having a “retirement” match against Shawn Michaels on a ppv. In real life, Ric Flair really wanted to retire.

Even though Vince hates Flair in a storyline and would not want Flair back in WWE, there is still a way for the writing team to bring Flair in, like maybe have Shane or Stephanie McMahon sign Flair to Wrestlemania. I think it’s a possibility that Flair will be coming back to WWE to confront Jericho while he’s on the journey for the World Champ.
