UFC 157 thoughts, first women’s fight…

I stopped watching UFC for a long while for a few reasons. 1) Their ppv’s are overpriced 2) The fights have been ridiculously boring lately. I can’t afford to watch PPV’s monthly but once in a blue moon, I’ll watch either a UFC ppv or a WWE ppv if the card looks good enough to me. Well, I’m thinking about paying my money to see this one ’cause I want to witness the first ever women’s fight in UFC. As you all know the UFC never have women fight before. There were female fighters in Strikeforce, which now UFC owns.

Of course, women fighting in UFC is going to piss all the male fans off ’cause in the UFC facebook, there are men hating on it. Yes, women in UFC is going to make the men all jealous and shit, but give the women fighters a chance. I think this will be a great fight. People want to mistakenly believe that women can’t fight, but have you ever watched women fight in Strikeforce? I have, and they do put on great fights. Women can be just as tough as men can. As a matter of fact, women are tougher than men, and the male fans are mad for that reason. I’m seeing comments by guys in the UFC facebook, that a lot of them are accusing one of those women of using steroids. Hello? And the male fighters in UFC don’t use steroids either? HA!

I’m all for women fighting in UFC. They deserve it. Women deserve to be a part of every sport, and there shouldn’t be any discrimination at all.

I don’t care who wins this fight, I just want to see two women kicking each others asses.

All the male fans should get used to women in UFC ’cause I’m feeling that there will be MANY more women fights after this one. I enjoy women fighting, whether it will be in boxing, cage fighting, wrestling, etc. They deserve to be a part of everything.

I can’t wait for Gina Carano to make her way into the UFC ’cause I’m feeling she will soon.

Playstation 4 thoughts…

So the PS4 has been officially announced by Sony the other day. I didn’t watch the live stream, I missed it, but from the looks of things, the PS4 sounds alright. From what I’ve heard though, the PS4 live stream, just showed the new Dual Shock 4 controller, they didn’t quite show the actual console yet. I guess the company is showing a little bit at a time to help create a buzz and excitement. They aren’t showing the PS4 console yet for a reason.

Some of you know that I am a die hard video gamer. I’m a Playstation guy. Why did I choose Playstation over X-box? Tomb Raider is the only reason. I absolutely LOVE the Tomb Raider games and since those games are only for Playstation, that’s why I went for it. Of course, I have played many other Playstation games other than Tomb Raider. I have quite a big collection of PS3 games.

I haven’t been buying that many lately ’cause “Skyrim” kept me busy. I do want to buy “Dead Space 3” and the upcoming new Tomb Raider game in March. Video gaming is one of my favorite hobbies. I play video games when I’m absolutely bored. When I want to take a break from guitar playing or working out at the gym, I’ll play video games for a couple of hours. However, I don’t spend hours all day video gaming like most kids do, I’m not that kind of guy. I’m not that addicted. I don’t buy every game that comes out either. I only buy the game if they get great reviews or if they look good to me. I’m pretty picky with the games I get ’cause they can get pricey.

Will I get the PS4 when it comes out? I don’t know yet. I just got the PS3 Slim last year and pretty happy with that. Maybe I’ll keep the PS3 Slim until something bad happens to it, maybe I’ll buy a PS4 then? I love video gaming. It’s something I did all my life. Before the big video game consoles, I remember the old Atari days and played a lot of PC games too. Now I stick with Playstation.

See the news on PS4, here.

Are bands & musicians shy of their own fanbase? I would say a lot of them are, yes…

One thing I’m noticing at local band gigs, is that I’m noticing that a lot of bands & solo musicians seem to be shy of people, when they’re out gigging. Evidence of that:  1) After the band gets done playing their show for the night, and a fan walks up to them and say, “Good job”, the musician will just look at him/her like, “Really? I played that good?”, not saying much after that. 2) After the show, the band will usually stick around for a while, but they’re usually outside smoking cigarettes or they’re just hanging at the bar with their fellow musicians 3) After the show, the band usually packs their gear and they just leave right after their performances (I’ve seen this too many times).

I can go on with the list. Those are just a few clues that bands don’t even care or if they’re shy of their own fanbase.

You see guys, with my own gigs, I want my gigs to be quite an experience for everyone. I have this rule called, “the no disappointment” rule. I won’t leave the show, until everyone who came out are smiling and happy. The fans drove all those miles to see you and they pay all that money to see you. So the goal is, you want to make going to your show worth it for them. All the time. It doesn’t matter how many fans come out. You must be humble and approachable to all of them.

If you want to earn more respect toward you as a musician and a band, stick around after the gigs and hang out with the fans who came out to see you. A lot of bands appear to be isolated from the fans, and you don’t want to be like that. Hang out and chat with the fans. Sign autographs and take photos with them. Have a few drinks with them and even make friends with them. I’ve done all of that. They reward you by supporting your music, and you need to reward them in return by offering your love and friendship to all of them. I appreciated my fans, and still appreciate them all now.

I’m also welcome of all feedback after performances, I would say more than just a simple, “Thank you”. I would say stuff like, “It means a lot, glad you enjoyed it”. After my gigs, I don’t pack up and leave like a lot of musicians appear to do. I stick around for a while. It’s a good thing to do and it’s respectful.

We’re not rock stars guys, so get over yourselves and your huge egos. Unlike the indie and major labels, where they make bands feel isolated from the fans with barricades at concerts and backstage passes to meet them or guest lists, as a local musician and unsigned, we don’t have any of that stuff. We can talk to anybody we want to. Local bands isolate themselves from their own fans after gigs because they want to play, “rock star”. They only let certain people talk to them who they think are deserving, which is disrespectful and wrong, in my opinion.

I miss going to the shows, and interacting with the fans after my performances, and I want to be doing this all over again. Soon. Hopefully. I appreciate anyone who really enjoys my music.

Happy 46th Birthday, Kurt Cobain…

Today marks, Kurt’s 46th Birthday. I have always been a huge Nirvana fan. Have been during my high school years, and still am a big Nirvana fan now. I love all of their albums. Every song they did was great.

In facebook and other social networking sites, there have been all kinds of shit talk and hate toward Kurt & Nirvana all day. Of course, the Kurt & Nirvana bashing usually starts whenever the day lands on Kurt’s birthday or his date of death in April. I don’t see how you can hate Nirvana. To me, they were an important part of the music industry. Love ’em or hate ’em, they were a huge part of our lives and they inspired all of us. MTV were largely responsible for making them huge & mainstream, thanks to their “Teen Spirit” video. Their videos is what made them for who they were. It’s too early for Nirvana to be eligible enough to make a Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame nomination, but they are getting pretty close to it though. They have a few more years left, I think.

I remember back in the day during my high school years, I just couldn’t wait to get home. Turn on the TV, and immediately switch it to MTV, hoping for the next Nirvana video to air. Whether it would be “Teen Spirit”, “Come As You Are”, “Lithium”, “Rape Me”, “All Apologies”, etc. I’m a big Nirvana fanatic. I just loved Kurt’s songwriting. While their music was really great, it was their live performances that mattered. They were the best live band, that would put on an incredible show. Just three guys rockin’ out on stage.

I can’t stand it when people hate Nirvana and bash their music. Why? Sure, most Nirvana songs were easy & simple chords, and Kurt wasn’t an opera singer, but he didn’t need to be. I love those kind of songwriters, who never took themselves too serious. They just wanted to write and play, regardless of the technical skills. Nirvana’s music was the Led Zeppelin of the 90’s to me. In high school, I would listen to “Nevermind” and “In Utero”, obsessively. Still listen to those two albums.

Kurt was a great talent. He maybe gone but his music is certainly never forgotten.

Patrick Carney explains himself on why he’s all over Justin Bieber on twitter…

I love these tweets by Patrick:

-“Tmz threw a camera in my face. Justin bieber said he wanted to slap me. His fans called me a fag for days. I mocked it. Didn’t ask for it.”

-“I still think there are way more bands that deserve grammy’s way before Justin Bieber and us. Led Zeppelin, the Who, Captain Beefheart etc.”

-“I worked hard and did what I love and after all this my reward is tmz. a million 12 yr olds call me a fag for speaking my mind. Perfect. Sow”

Patrick is so right that he didn’t start this drama at all. You know what’s also funny, is that celebrities are always getting in trouble for using gay slurs like “fag” and stuff, but look at all those tweets by those Beliebers he’s been retweeting. How come you don’t see the media busting on the Beliebers, and how come you don’t see GLAAD calling them out for using gay slurs? It seems everyone is siding with Justin and people think Patrick is the badguy here.

Oh please! *rolls eyes*

If Patrick wants to believe that Justin doesn’t deserve a Grammy or doesn’t deserve to be there, that’s his opinion and he has that right. People attack Patrick for this ’cause that’s how the media works. That’s how today’s industry is, with the internet and all that. People think he’s a bully just for being honest.

On top of that, Patrick brings up a valid point, that there are other bands & artists, that deserve a lot of Grammy spotlight before Justin Bieber came around. Patrick is not being the egomaniac ’cause he even thinks that other bands deserve Grammy’s more than the Black Keys.

I think Patrick’s goal and what he’s trying to do here, is that he wants a change to the industry. Today’s industry seems to be all about Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, Snooki, etc. getting the spotlight, and Patrick is hating it. He just wants other talented people with real talent who are more deserving. I think that’s the whole point of what Patrick is trying to do here. Patrick is not doing this for attention, he’s fighting for a change in the industry. He has that right to do that if he wants to.

If we have the right to speak our mind about music all we want to, why can’t Patrick, right? Freedom of speech works both ways.

Finished re-reading “The Dark Tower” series by Stephen King…

So today, I just finished re-reading the 7th and final novel of the “Dark Tower” series by Stephen King. There are actually 8 “Dark Tower” books actually, that includes, “The Wind Through the Keyhole”, the new one. After re-reading all 8 books which took me a couple of months, they are pretty long stories, I just want Stephen to keep these stories going. They were very addicting stories.

I can now see exactly why major movie studios keep rejecting this project so that these books can be made into major films. It isn’t because the movie studios think the stories suck. I’m sure they love ’em, but why won’t the major studios make these books into films that Ron Howard was planning? Simply put, like I’ve been saying before, the project is way too big and will be VERY expensive, that even Hollywood couldn’t afford. The Dark Tower stories are full of weird stories, unique characters, and strange locations that it’s going to be a lot of money to make all that. It will probably take tons of CGI work too. It’s a fantasy & adventure story, part western too.

I love the stories of Roland, Eddie, and Susannah. One thing to keep in mind though, that the entire Dark Tower story, doesn’t end too good as everyone would think. The ending of the story is going to piss a lot of people off especially “Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands” and Dark Tower VII. Stephen King is clearly not about pleasing the reader at all. He’s all about what makes the story works. He will write something, even if he doesn’t like it. He will write whatever is right for the story.

I hope Hollywood will start making these books into movies soon. If Hollywood won’t do it at all, then it would be much cheaper if they can be made into TV mini series instead. The stories are way too long. I don’t know how Ron Howard thinks he’s going to pull this off but it will be interesting. Javier Bardem dropped out of playing Roland earlier last year, and it was a bummer too. He would have made a good Roland.

If you haven’t read the Dark Tower series yet, you should.

I love Stephen King. He’s my favorite writer. I have collected most of his books and it took me years to get all his stuff too. I just love his writing style and he’s the best at writing stories better than anybody out there. Of course, there are other authors I admire who are right behind King like George R.R. Martin, and Dan Brown who are a few of my other favorites. Tomorrow, I’m going to start re-reading, “A Clash of Kings”, the third book of the Game of Thrones series, in time before Season 3.

Defending musicians that do cover songs…

You gotta love those musicians who constantly bash bands & musicians for doing covers, saying that they have no talent and they would get criticized constantly by many around the local scene. I’m talking about the people who seem to only support original music, nothing else outside of that. There are many bands & solo artists who don’t do too many cover songs or they don’t do none at all. I still see this lame argument today around local musicians in facebook, and other places online.

You see, I LOVE doing covers. I’ve always loved doing both originals and cover songs. I think it’s important for all musicians to do both. It doesn’t make a musician talentless hacks ’cause he/she wants to play covers. If you’re a musician and don’t want anything to do with cover songs, then I’m sorry, you’re not an actual musician. It’s pretty important to do cover songs. Playing covers is important for a few reasons. 1) It’s important to have a large repertoire of songs, that people will recognize so that people can take you seriously more as a musician. 2) It’ll help improve your talent and skill as a musician and songwriter. Writing original songs is great, but if you want to take your songwriting to the next level, learn cover songs. Cover songs will help make you play your instrument better and WILL help your singing better too. Playing cover songs certainly helped me play guitar and sing better, that’s for sure.

On top of that, there is nothing wrong with a cover band or an acoustic solo artist who plays nothing but covers. I think it’s pretty cool to hear different takes on cover songs by different musicians. It is also possible to make the cover song sound like that you wrote it, if it’s good enough.

I like a good cover band. I’m practicing and learning better guitar, and when I improve, I’m actually thinking about joining a cover band someday. Since I can’t get any other job anywhere else, I’m actually considering this idea.

It’s why I like to play covers at my live gigs from the past and upload cover songs on youtube. Doing covers is fun. It’s challenging and can be useful. I plan on getting back into learning covers again soon. I want to be doing this again.

Cool Photo: Scott Hall shows up at the airport to meet DDP and Jake Roberts!!!

ScottHall

Well, looks like Scott has accepted DDP and Jake Roberts invitation to the, Accountability Crib. It’s sad to see Scott sitting on a wheel chair but that’s what drugs and alcohol addiction will do to you. Scott is still looking good, though! Hope DDP will do a good job in getting Scott clean and sober.

I’ll be on the look out for the videos, when they get them up.

No Vince, you don’t make people smile with your WWE shows…

I was watching the WWE press conference when they made their so called huge announcement live on the internet, when it was said that the WWE is going to have Wrestlemania 30 at the Dome in New Orleans, and Vince was saying that the only goal with WWE that they want to put smiles on people’s faces everyday, and globally. I just laughed when Vince said that. Why? Because it isn’t true. Vince doesn’t make people smile with WWE shows. Who does the smiling when it comes to WWE? Yes, that’s right. No one other than Vince McMahon, himself. He’s all about making himself smile. All he cares about is making money. He doesn’t care about the WWE fans as he claims. He’s all about doing the things that makes him happy.

Evidence of that. Dropping the TV-14 rating and going PG. Getting rid of great wrestling. Ditching hardcore wrestling. Shoving John Cena in our faces for the past 10 years. Bad writing in storylines. Trying to take the wrestling part out of the WWE. Need I go on? He can bring back the Attitude Era, turn John Cena heel, bring back hardcore wrestling and all that stuff anytime he wants to. He won’t ’cause he knows that the family friendly part of wrestling and John Cena is what helps Vince make the money.

I’ve been so turned off by WWE for the past several years now. I gave up watching WWE ppvs and I’m thinking about bailing out of Wrestlemania 29 this year. Not sure if I’ll watch it ’cause everyone knows Cena will take the belt from the Rock, anyways. I don’t really want to see Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar again either, that match isn’t confirmed yet, but will be soon.

With that being said, the WWE just sucks currently. Ratings are bad, and I don’t like all the current gimmicks. Wrestling is not the same anymore.

As far as TNA Impact goes, they are an alright company, but the only reason they are getting bigger and more successful is ’cause of Hulk Hogan. That’s why TNA hired Hogan ’cause they know he would take their company to the next level. TNA is traveling the world now with their live TV shows. I can’t stand Hulk Hogan either. Wish is why I gave up on TNA Impact. Maybe I’ll start watching again if Hogan will ever leave though.

Back to WWE, if they are going to have Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans, they better make that card a good one. John Cena, will obviously headline that WM like he usually does every year (*rolls eyes*), but I hope they pick Cena a different opponent for WM-30. I certainly don’t want Cena vs. The Rock III. If they want to make Wrestlemania 30 a historic one, they better have dream matches that people want to see like Stone Cold vs. Hogan, Lesnar vs. Undertaker, and matches such as those. Will they? Nope. They will come up with stupid matches, whatever makes Vince the money.

That’s how much of a greedy businessman Vince is. He’s an egomaniac in real life and only cares for himself. I’m fed up with WWE. Have been for a long time. I still respect the performers and wrestlers, they are great. I’m just knocking the company’s creative direction.
