I went to the Northshire bookstore in Saratoga Springs today to look at books and their small vinyl section that they have. I’ve been wanting to get the new Myles Kennedy album “The Ides of March” for a while and now that it’s out, I picked up the vinyl.
I’m a huge Myles Kennedy fan. He’s definitely one of the best singers in rock today. I’ll be honest that I don’t listen to his main band, Alter Bridge with Mark Tremonti that much but I should. I do have all of the Myles Kennedy albums he did with Slash, though. I love the Myles Kennedy/Slash albums. I also have Myles first solo album “Year of the Tiger” which is excellent.
Haven’t listened to the “Ides of March” yet but gonna get around to it this weekend.
Myles is a talented guy… good guitar player too. You should check him out as well.
Well this is interesting… after over a year of having no movie theater due to the world getting shut down over a stupid and pointless “lockdown”, I finally got to a movie theater earlier today since some movie theaters are actually still around. Yes, many movie theaters have closed down ’cause the pandemic did them in. The Bowtie Cinemas at the Wilton Mall closed down for good so I went to the other one in downtown Saratoga Springs, “Criterion Cinemas” which is still open for now anyways.
I went to the movie theaters today ’cause there were two different choices of horror films I wanted to see… it was either “A Quiet Place II” or “The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It”. I really wanted to see both of them pretty badly but I had to choose one so I went for a “A Quiet Place II” since I loved the first one.
I thought the second one was way better than the first. These movies are getting better and better and from the looks of things, the ending of “Part II” may have left open for a third one so this is probably gonna end up being a series of films, a new franchise.
I think John Krasinski is doing a great job with these movies. He’s surprisingly a great screenwriter and great director. He’s really good at the horror genre. I’m the biggest horror fan you’ll ever see. Yes, “A Quiet Place – Part II” is more frightening and more thrilling than the first. Cillian Murphy is an awesome actor and he plays a cool character in this one. Regan Abbott is an awesome character too.
I hardly ever jump in horror films when the “jump” scare come but this one did it to me once. I think these creatures in these films are so cool. Can you imagine living that life? Being forced to be quiet all the time so those creatures don’t hear you?
Not only that John Krasinski is a great director and screenwriter, he’s also a helluva an actor too. John isn’t in this one very much but did a great job. John is known as Jim from “The Office” so it may seem pretty strange that he goes from a comic actor to horror. It seems to me that John is definitely a fan of the horror genre himself. When John is done with the Quiet Place series, I hope he moves on to other horror films and he probably will ’cause he so good at it.
Anyhow, about movie theaters coming back… this is how movies are supposed to be seen. On the big screen, not on the small screen but I have a feeling like everyone else that we’re about to see the death of the movie going experience for good. Streaming services and VOD will be the new future of movie releases and you’re already seeing it. Movies were meant to be seen on the big screen to begin with.
I thought “A Quiet Place II” was really good and looking forward to the third one.
Not only that today is Memorial Day, it is also Clint Eastwood’s 91st birthday. Yeah, he is 91 and he is still alive and well. I’ve always been a huge fan. Trying to watch as many films of his as I can especially a lot of his older Westerns… trying to catch up with them all. I’ve seen a lot of his old westerns like the Man With No Name Trilogy: “Fistful Of Dollars”, “For a Few Dollars More” and “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly”. All three are great films but of course, I find the third one “TG, TB and TU” being the best.
Not too long ago, I got around to watching “Outlaw Josey Wales”, “High Plains Drifter”, “Joe Kidd”, “Hang ‘Em High”, for the first time and I loved all of those. Of course, I’ve seen “Unforgiven” many times and I still think “Unforgiven” is one of his best Westerns.
As far as his work outside of the Western genre… of course, I love all the Dirty Harry movies which I think “Sudden Impact” being the best one.
Other Eastwood films I loved were “Escape From Alcatraz” which is one of my favorites that he starred in but didn’t direct.
I also loved “Bridges of Madison County”, “Absolute Power”, “In the Line Of Fire”, “Gran Torino”, “Jersey Boys”, “American Sniper, “The Mule”, “Changeling” and “Richard Jewell”. Another one of his best films I think is “Million Dollar Baby” and I gotta get the BluRay to that film sometime soon. Love that film so much. I also loved the crime thriller, “Mystic River” and a thriller he starred in called “Bloodwork”. The 1999 crime thriller, “True Crime” was excellent as well.
There’s still so many films of his I haven’t seen yet ’cause he has a very impressive and very prolific filmography. He’s done way over 60 -70 films, it’s crazy.
Not all of his movies are good, though, he did make some stinkers… I didn’t care for “J. Edgar”, didn’t care for “Hereafter”, “Invictus” and didn’t like “Trouble With the Curve”.
This man is a legend and a genius for sure. I respect him so much ’cause he keeps going. He’s one actor and director who doesn’t believe in retirement ’cause obviously, he’s gonna keep making movies until he passes. He’s never retiring, trust me. He’s got some more movies left in him until he can’t do it anymore ’cause that time is coming and he knows it too.
Happy birthday, Clint. I’m sure he’s excited to get back to work soon after covid stopped him from working like everyone else.
I wish he would give us one more Dirty Harry film, though. I believe he can pull that off. A retired inspector, Harry Callahan being forced to fight crime again at an old age when he’s no longer a police detective sounds good to me.
Well, Warner Bros. and DC greenlights Joker 2 and Todd Phillips is co-writing again. It is not yet known whether or not the other writer Scott Silver is coming back but we’ll see. It’s also not yet known whether or not Todd will direct “Joker 2” but it’s pretty likely he will.
The bigger question is will Joaquin Phoenix reprise his role as the Joker for the sequel? Well, the actor keeps flip flopping back and forth from what I’ve heard. One time he says the Joker movie should be a standalone film and next thing you know, he’s onto it. Now nobody knows for sure but I’m sure Warner Bros. is desperately gonna try to talk to him into it.
Good news the sequel is happening but I won’t bother if Phoenix is not gonna be in it ’cause I thought he did a great job with that role. I think Phoenix should come back for sure ’cause he makes an awesome Joker, in my opinion.
People complained about the first Joker movie ’cause of its gritty and over the top violence and gore. Well that’s how the Heath Ledger Joker was in “The Dark Knight” but nobody complained then. Do you think the crew of “Joker 2” will tone it down with the violence for the next movie? Fuck no. They’ll just make the next movie even more grittier and more graphic and I hope they do.
I loved the “Joker” movie myself and planning to give it a re-watch soon. Phoenix is definitely one of my favorite actors too, though. That guy is awesome!
People never cease to amaze me. I know I haven’t posted in a long while but I have a rant to get off my chest. Seeing all these people out there rushing to get vaccinated just to get unmasked. Ya know, all this proves is that liberals hate wearing “masks” like the rest of us and if they’re in a rush to get vaccinated to take the mask off, there’s your proof that they hated the masks just as much.
That’s the problem with lefties, they believe everything they see on TV and believe what they see is real. I’m tired of it. Rushing to get vaccinated so they can have their life back and the vaccines both of them are NOT approved by the FDA.
Interesting how quickly things change. First, lefties thought it was a good thing to “mask up” and thought it was a selfish thing to do to go around “unmasked”. Now the liberal left are going after those and hating on the unvaccinated who prefers to keep the mask on. You see, some prefer to keep the mask on ’cause some of us don’t fully trust the vaccines and I’m one of them. I’m not gonna get vaccinated and keeping the mask on until the masks are “gone” for good.
It’s real sad and scary that so many can’t see that they’re being controlled by the gov. and the media over this Covid stuff. Pay attention to those in gov. and the media making billions off of Covid.
Masks, social distancing and all these strict protocols don’t work anyways. Do people ever think that they can control you for money and power? But nope, everybody just thinks they’re doing the right things. *yawn*
All this will be over for good very soon ’cause covid will go away forever one day and at one point, they’ll have no choice but to drop all this “control” and “power” they’re doing. There will be a point where there will be no choice but to give our freedom back. They won’t stop ’cause they don’t want to lose their power. So even if the covid numbers are going down and it’s going away, their abuse of power continues. Thankfully there’s a few states in America that are fully opened like Florida ’cause that governor is smart and knows what’s really going on.
Anyhow, all this covid bullshit continues and getting worse but I continue to live life to the fullest and I’m happy pretty much. Just trying to keep myself busy with guitar playing, watching movies, working out, playing video games, listening to music, doing some reading, etc. Life is good for me. Hope everything is going good for you too.
Is all pop and rap music so bad like a lot of people say out there? I’ve always repeatedly said that I’m NOT against all pop and rap music. I actually like some of that stuff, really but I prefer the older pop and rap like in the 80’s and 90’s, ya know? Today’s pop and rap music is getting so horrible. I can’t get into stuff like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, The Weekend and all that crap.
If you wanna know the good stuff do you remember older pop and rap acts like Salt N’ Peppa, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Paula Abdul, early Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and rappers like 2Pac, Notorious BIG, Ice Cube and Dre? That’s the stuff that I’m talking about. Even though I hate Snoop Dogg, the only good album he did was his debut album, “Doggystyle” which was an album that I actually liked but he got less and less interesting after that fast.
Yeah, I do like pop and rap music. I don’t listen to rock and metal all the time ’cause a lot of times I feel like I have to switch it up some.
I’ve been listening to 2Pac and Biggie music all week and realizing that those two rappers were geniuses. Wow, they were amazing. I’ve read so much about 2Pac and Biggie over the years and watched documentaries about them so now I’m finally getting into listening to them. I do love older rap music like the NWA too as I do have their have their “Straight Outta Compton album. I used to be a fan of Eminem but don’t like him anymore, though.
I remember listening to stuff like En Vogue, their hits “My Lovin'” and “Free Your Mind”. Those are freakin’ badass songs. I do love the Fugees and Lauryn Hill too.
Some people were surprised that I actually do like some rap/hip hop music but I can’t make that kind of music myself since I don’t know how to rap. For some weird reason, I’ve had some people over the years wanting me to write my own rap songs but I can’t do it. I could probably write dance music though and maybe I will.
I like to listen to this stuff ’cause it’s also great workout music. Man, listening to pop and rap music can get ya all psyched up in the gym for sure. It helps.
Yeah, I do listen to this stuff too believe or not. I listen to all genres of music. It’s great to have eclectic taste in music. It’s good for the mind.
Chris Cornell has always been my favorite and I’ve always tried to follow his music career over the years back when he was alive. Whether he was in Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and his solo career… I tried to support it all. I loved everything he did.
While Chris definitely was one of the greatest rock singers of all time… he was one of the very few rock singers who could sing in such a high range but there are a few other things that are overlooked with this man.
Nobody wants to talk about what a great guitarist and lyricist he really was. I mean, from what I’ve heard and read through interviews and stuff, Chris was a real musician. He was such a great guitar player that he was able write songs that he hears in his head and get it all out of him on the instrument.
I try to buy every Soundgarden album which I have most. I have every Audioslave album I think. I also have all 4 Cornell solo albums that he recorded when he was alive. I don’t have his “No One Sings Like You Anymore”, the album that was released after he passed on yet but I’m planning on getting it soon. I used to have the Temple of the Dog album but I’m gonna get it again, I think but like to try and get it on vinyl.
I’m a huge fan of Chris. Man was a genius. Another thing that was overlooked was his personality… he seemed like a real good dude… he was always real humble and never full of himself.
I don’t want to talk about this heated Soundgarden vs. Vicky feud that’s going on right now but I want to talk about Chris and his musicianship. How he was important to the rock world. I mean, Chris was the one who helped the grunge movement explode in the 90’s.
A lot of people like to become immediate fans after a musician has passed but not this time. I was always a fan of Chris Cornell long before he passed ’cause I was always trying to buy his albums no matter what project he was in. I’ve always loved his solo stuff for sure, though.
Before Chris passed, I believe Soundgarden were gonna work on their 7th album and they wanted to finish it for Chris but they don’t have the master tapes of Chris’s songs and don’t know who has ’em. That was the last I’ve read. So I take it that Chris was the primary songwriter of Soundgarden? Yes, pretty much… although I’m sure Kim Thayil helped out with the songwriting a lot. I know Ben Shepherd the bass player wrote some songs for the band too. They all wrote, I think.
The rock world isn’t the same without Chris. A real shame what happened to him.
Looks like Clint Eastwood finally picked his next directorial film. I figure Clint would decide on something while not doing anything throughout this pandemic and now he’s getting ready get back to work finally. Clint picked a movie titled, “Cry Mancho” which is adapted from the book. It’s more of a neo-Western, though…. which the story takes place in the 70’s.
The plot for “Cry Macho” film will be about Eastwood playing a retired rodeo star who is hired to bring back an 11 Year old boy in Mexico back to the United States. The movie will have Clint playing the leading role again and it will star alongside country singer/actor Dwight Yoakam and young actor Eduardo Minett who plays the 11 year old kid.
Eastwood stayed away from the Western genre for years and looks like he’s about to make a huge comeback to it. His last Western that he starred and directed was “Unforgiven” in 1998. It’s no secret that Eastwood is a huge fan of the Western genre ’cause he did so many of those films throughout his career.
Keep in mind that Clint is 90 years old now and he’s still directing and starring the lead in his own movies. Age is not stopping this man and he definitely doesn’t believe in retirement and he’ll do this until he passes on.
Speaking of Clint Eastwood, I just watched his films “High Plains Drifter” and “Joe Kidd”…. both Westerns and loved ’em both. Great films. I’m a huge fan of Eastwood and trying to watch as many films of his as possible. There are still many I haven’t seen.
There aren’t too many “rock n’ roll” inductees this year. This so called “Rock n’ roll” hall of fame is getting less and less “rock” each year. It’s like WTF? Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Carole King? Tina Turner is kind of rock but more on the pop/rock side, same with the Go’s Go’s.
There’s no “true” rock n’ roll in this hall of fame this year with the exception of Randy Rhoads and Todd Rundgren which are the only two great choices.
The Foo Fighters maybe around for over 20 years in which makes them qualifying but I still think it’s too soon for them.
Where’s Iron Maiden? They actually got the snub when they got nominated for this really? Nope. The Hall of Shame prefers Jay-Z and LL Cool J more.
No surprise they would have Jay-Z in knowing how “leftist” the Rock Hall in Cleveland really is.
There are so many legendary bands and artists totally deserving to be in the Hall of Fame before the Foos, Jay-Z and LL Cool. It’s a travesty that Iron Maiden is not in the Hall of fame when they should be ’cause they are the greatest metal band of all time.
Also Motorhead should get in there… Billy Idol, Blue Oyster Cult, King Crimson and Jethro Tull is still not even in there yet. Also, what about George Thorogood and the Destroyers?
While 90’s grunge music is starting to get in the Hall of Fame, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains need to get in there at some point. The Smashing Pumpkins will get in there as well.
Fuck the Hall of Shame… so out of touch and they are very “anti-rock” for sure.
I’m getting really tired of this… as long as TV says Donald Trump is a horrible and evil man then it must be true right? As long as leftism is good for the country and what the country needs but Republicans/conservatism is bad then it must be true right? Same can be said that racism is a huge problem for the country and that covid-19 is the most deadliest virus in the world (when it isn’t really).
I stopped watching the news years ago, pretty much when Barack Obama became president in 2008. It didn’t take me long at all to figure the news is nothing but leftist propaganda and it’s amazing to me that there are still too many dummies out there that still can’t figure it out.
That’s the problem with this country… too many brainwashed people that see what they see on TV as true. Honest journalism has been dead for years and the so-called “news” is much worse now than ever before.
Admittedly, I do watch TV still but I don’t watch the news and none of them TV news channels either… yes, even FOX News is getting bad too. Even right wing news channels like News Maxx or OANN are no good either really, I don’t even watch those.
When I watch TV at night, I would much rather watch professional wrestling, a good movie or a fictional TV show. That’s all I’m interested in.
I’m getting less and less interested in politics to be honest with you ’cause it’s getting really boring to me. This whole topic of “racist” is getting boring, long and boring tiresome topic. Enough.
