Cool Video: Why Zack Snyder and crew are quiet about details of “Man of Steel” movie…

At the L.A. Times “Hero Complex” convention event over the weekend, Zack Snyder the director of “Man of Steel”, the new Superman movie appeared on stage to have a live chat with “Walking Dead” creator, Robert Kirkman. While they talked a lot about zombies and comics, Robert, kept bugging Zack about details for “Man of Steel”. As you can see in this live interview, Zack was tight lipped about “Superman” plot points throughout the whole thing.

There are plenty of fan discussions on the internet being disappointed on Zack being silent on, “Man of Steel”. Why is Zack being so secretive of the new Superman movie? Well, it’s a Christopher Nolan movie. Nolan is the mentor and producer of the film. Nolan loves to keep all of his movies secretive. When Nolan did the Batman movies and “Inception”, he was secretive on all those movies but once in a while, he will release a photo or a little teaser to get feedback or hype up the movie.

I remember a while back, Hans Zimmer, explained why Nolan is secretive on his movies, read about it, here.

I agree with what Nolan is doing. Why spoil the surprises and excitement before the movie comes out? Nolan is doing a good job keeping spoilers private as best as possible. These days, every Hollywood movie wants to reveal everything before the film comes out. Nolan is one of the very few who doesn’t like to reveal everything. He’s definitely one of those, “Wait until the movie comes out”, type.

I’m sure Zack would love to talk about the plot details and everything else in “Man of Steel”, but he can’t. I’m sure he had to sign some kind of agreement paperwork that he’s not allowed to talk about anything outside the studio. If Zack did start talking about stuff about the movie, that could get him fired or sued.

Enjoy the interview below.

“No Bill Ward, No Black Sabbath”??? Get over it and get used to it!!!!

I’m getting real tired of the “No Bill Ward, No Black Sabbath” responses in facebook. In facebook, you see a lot of “No Bill Ward, No Black Sabbath” in various facebook fan pages. Through the official Black Sabbath facebook, Tony Iommi facebook, Guitar World magazine facebook, etc. Any music news website that reports Black Sabbath, the fans will reply back, “No Bill Ward, No Black Sabbath”. While the news reporters online, do a good job keeping up to date with this back and forth feud, the fans are a bunch of assholes and don’t know much about music.

In defense of Black Sabbath, bands move on, bands change. No Bill Ward, No Black Sabbath? Why don’t you say, “No John Bonham, No Led Zeppelin” when they reunited for the O2 show a few years back. Why don’t you say “No Bon Scott, No Ac/Dc”. Why don’t you say, “No Layne Staley, No Alice in Chains”. Why don’t you say, “No Cliff Burton, No Metallica”. Why don’t you say, “No Hilel Slovak, No Red Hot Chilli Peppers”. Why don’t you say, “No Ace Frehley, No Kiss”. Why don’t you say, “No Marty Friedman, No Megadeth”. “Why don’t you say, “No Keith Moon or John Entwistle, No the Who”.

All those bands, I listed above, continued on without their well known members. Their well known members that were the star of the band either died or left, but they all continued the band anyway with various members over the years. Bands change and evolve. I believe all those fans that say, “No Bill Ward, No Black Sabbath” are new fans who are young, who don’t know much about the history of rock too well. Especially the history of Sabbath, who went through too many different members over the years. They just don’t understand it.

Even Bill himself is cool with Black Sabbath going on without him. He even wished them good luck on their upcoming gigs on his website. Bill didn’t demand a high payment that the band couldn’t afford, he said it wasn’t true. He said his payment request was fair, and affordable. All he’s asking for is something “sign-able”, something official. Bill’s requests were pretty simple, and I’m sure it’s easy to give him what he wants. For some reason Sabbath is being difficult on him. I’m not sure of all this legal bullshit, so I don’t know anything about that stuff, but like I said before, all this stuff is behind the scenes of the music business. Bill has his own reasons for making this public. He has his own reasons for backing out of the reunion. The point of this post, is that bands don’t stay together with the same members forever. Except for U2, which is one of the only bands who have the same members for years to this day.

This wasn’t the first time, Bill and Black Sabbath had a public feud. They had one way back in 2006, when Tony asked Bill to play drums with Heaven & Hell, with Ronnie James Dio as the frontman. Bill was on board for that project at first, but later bailed due to musical differences. See? These guys had problems for years. They have no personal hatred against each other, it’s all business, behind the scenes bullshit. Sabbath is used to playing with different people over the years.

This feud is just proof that the music industry is a sleazy business. Are you sure you bands out there really want the fame?

Cool Video: Joaquin Phoenix finally has a new movie out called, “The Master”, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson!

Joaquin Phoenix, is finally done with his crazy rap gimmick and back to where he is best at, acting. Here he is in a new leading role called, “The Master”, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Joaquin has been my favorite actor for years. So I just gotta say to him, welcome back to Hollywood! I’ll be seeing this movie for sure, looks great!

Cool Video: The new 007 trailer, “Skyfall” is finally here!!!

I thought “Casino Royale”, was a great movie, but I thought, “Quantum of Solace” sucked hard. Now I see why they are re-booting the series again. “Skyfall” doesn’t continue the story of “Royale” and “Solace”, “Skyfall” is a standalone movie, I believe. Still looks very good so far, and I’m impressed with the trailer. The film looks action packed, of course, all movie trailers want to make it look that way with James Bond films, but when you go see the actual film, it turns out to be a piece of crap. Lets just hope and pray, “Skyfall”, will be a really good one. Javier Bardem is the main villain in this film, they do show him in this trailer but his face is darkened out so you can’t see him. It’s just a teaser for now. I’m sure they’ll reveal a lot more in the second trailer.

Enjoy it, here.

Facebook and the internet can destroy a band or artist’s career, even if you’re a nice person, here’s how…

These days, the internet seems to be a great tool to get your music out there and be heard as a musician. The internet can be a wonderful thing and musicians seems to be obsessed with it more than anything (that includes me too). I’m just amazed at the large number of unsigned bands and artists in social networking sites that a lot of them are terrible at putting themselves out there. Not only that angry rants could destroy your music dreams, you can still destroy your career even if you’re a nice person.

When you want to put yourself out there, you must be careful with everything you do. The kind of photos you’re putting up there for the world to see. You must look at how you write to your fans. A lot of musicians have the worst writing skills I’ve ever seen. A lot of musicians like to be funny and humorous a lot with their fans. A lot of them like to write offensive and inappropriate jokes, some of them even using cuss words and swearing. You see a lot of, “Come to this show, bitches”, “We’re going to rock the fuck out”, “We’re going to get ourselves wasted, and have a blast”, etc. Okay, you get my point. A lot of bands seem to be putting that stuff up in their status’s, when they have a show coming up. In my opinion, this is just me, it’s a bad idea to write stuff like that. Why does it make you look foolish?

It’s because you’re adults. Maybe like around 30 or 40. When you have a show coming up that involves alcohol, they act like high school teenagers at a house party or something. This post isn’t aimed at any band in particular. I’m talking about, all of them. Bands really got to be careful how they put themselves out there. Every move they make. Everything they do online. Everywhere they go.  They have to be responsible and take everything seriously.

When you want to promote a project or show, you must be a professional about that too. Just focus on plugging in your project in a more appropriate manner and more people will be interested in it. You can be a nice person all you want to be, people are going to still get pissed at you about how you put yourself out there. Don’t spam people to death and don’t over do with plugging yourself way too much. That can also kill your career.

Use the internet responsible, don’t fall for scams and pay to play schemes that a lot of bands seems to be falling for. Be careful with entering for contests and be careful of accepting opportunities over the internet. All this stuff can kill your career, if you’re not careful.

Use the internet good, and you could have a good career on a positive note.

Cool Video: Black Sabbath performs their hometown of Birmingham last night, minus Bill Ward on the drums…

Last night, Black Sabbath, the original members (minus Bill Ward, of course), played the O2 Academy in Birmingham, the hometown of the band. They used this gig as a try out, to see if they still have it for their Download and Lollapalooza performances, in other words, this is just a warm up performance. As expected, Black Sabbath did put on a KILLER show even without Bill. Like I said before, no matter who the drummer is, the band is going to rock it.

There are mixed opinions and views by the public of this Black Sabbath vs. Bill Ward feud. Some support Bill, and hate Sabbath for what they’ve done. There are also those that support Sabbath and hate Bill for being a greedy egomaniac. So who’s side am I on? Both of them. Whatever they do behind the scenes of the music business is their business, lets just leave it at that. Nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes. Everyone is going by what Bill said about Black Sabbath on his website. Whatever they do is between them, we don’t know anything.

Black Sabbath is doing the right thing, brushing off Bill’s drama. Just appreciate music and appreciate Black Sabbath, if you call yourself a true fan. I don’t know who this mysterious drummer is in the videos but he seems to be doing a good job. Even if Tony has cancer, he still looks great in these videos. You can tell he’s pretty sick, but he seems to play well like always.

Enjoy these videos!

Why I hate performing bars & clubs… and prefer cafes & diners more…

A lot of bands and musicians mistakenly believe, you need to play bar rooms all the time, to get your music out there and be heard. That’s not true. You don’t really have to play shit hole bars & clubs, if you don’t want to. It’s really all up to you to decide on what type of venues to play in. To those that know me, would know that I prefer to play small cafes and diners more, than the bar gigs. Why do I hate bars so much?

Well, for starters, I hate the loud noise over the music. Too distracting and annoying. Plus, I don’t like being around too many drunk people. The way they talk to you being drunk is pretty nuts. I enjoy talking to people more when they are sober. As you can probably tell, I’m not the partying type anymore like I used to be.

I prefer the cafes and diners more, where people can sit and actually listen to you. It’s more quiet and calm. I prefer performances like that.

If I get a band someday though, that might be a bit of a problem. Most cafes and diners don’t like loud rock bands. I’m sure there are large venues that don’t involve alcohol that will welcome loud rock bands, those venues are hard to find. I just like quiet and intimate performances more. Most bands enjoy performing in front of a bunch of drunk people, but live performances don’t always have to be that way. This is why I mostly liked to perform at small places like the Cafe Lena, Flavour Cafe, Slow Jed’s, and places like those.

With the band thing, I don’t really want to be a bar band. I want to find places where people can sit and listen to you. We’re not going to be a party rock band where you can dance your ass off all night. I’m planning to be a rock band that plays art. Nothing wrong with bands wanting to play bars, they play where ever they want to play, but do you really want to be looked at as a bar band when you would rather be performing a bigger stage?

You can get a better reception from the fans when performing at venues that doesn’t involve alcohol.

Film Review: The Avengers

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston

Directed by: Joss Whedon

Well, I finally went out and saw it this afternoon. Finally, saw, “The Avengers”! Here is my review…

Plot/synopsis: Nick Fury is director of S.H.I.E.L.D, an international peace keeping agency. The agency is a who’s who of Marvel Super Heroes, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When global security is threatened by Loki and his cohorts, Nick Fury and his team will need all their powers to save the world from disaster.

Over the last several years, the movie industry has gone crazy over Superhero flicks. Both Marvel and DC kept coming out with them. Trying to make every superhero movie from the comics they could think of. It was only a matter of time that Hollywood was going to give: Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor their own film by Marvel. At the end of each of those films, they keep teasing the Avengers is on the way. Well, the Avengers is finally here, the wait is finally over. Most of the superheros in the Avengers were played by the original actors from the original films except for Ed Norton as the Hulk. Remember, Marvel fired Ed Norton and was replaced by Mark Ruffalo instead. While it is sad that Ed Norton was not a part of this movie, I thought Mark Ruffalo did a great job playing, Bruce Banner. I have been a fan of these characters for years, and it was awesome seeing them all on the big screen in one movie. Of course, they added a few more characters in the Avengers from the comics. Black Widow (played by Scarlett) and Hawkeye (played by Jeremy).

On with my thoughts on the movie, it was a perfect superhero film. Over the years, Hollywood has been trying to make a great superhero film, but most of the superhero films over the years haven’t been that good. Finally, we get a great one that we can walk out of the theater with smiles on our faces! There are no complaints about this film at all. The film was a good long 2 and a half hours. It was action packed. The film was well acted by everyone in the cast. The pacing of the film was very well done. The action scenes is what impressed me the most. It was an action packed ride for sure and I even liked the fight scenes with Scarlett Johansson. After seeing Scarlett in those fight scenes, makes me wish Marvel would give Black Widow her own movie, solo sometime in the future.

I also loved the visuals and special effects with this movie. I hate most of today’s 3D movies. Today’s 3D is mostly bad, but I was very impressed with the 3D in, “The Avengers”. They did a good job with the 3D this time around. The score of the film is what made you kept watching all the way through. The music composed in the film was brilliant. Why can’t other superhero films be just as good as this? The question that I’m wondering, will, “The Dark Knight: Rises” and “Man of Steel”, be just as good as “The Avengers”? I don’t know about that one. Joss Whedon was a perfect choice of director for “The Avengers”, and I couldn’t see anybody else doing it. I admired Joss Whedon’s work for a while, especially his great sci-fi film, “Serenity”, which is a film that I love. I’m already hoping Joss, will do the sequel for “The Avengers”. I hope he stays on. Of course, Stan Lee, makes a cameo in this movie just like he appears in all Marvel flicks.

This was one of the best superhero films I’ve seen in a long time. I’m definitely getting this film on Blu Ray when it comes out.

Score for “The Avengers” = **** (4 stars as in “Excellent”)

10 Mistakes Bands & musicians make while performing on stage…

I know that there are going to be plenty of bands & acoustic solo musicians that is not going to want to read this post, they’ll get mad at some of it, but the truth needs to be said. If you don’t want to be looked at as one of the most hated bands or artists, or if you don’t want to look like a bunch of amateurs, then you should read this post. I’ve been guilty of some of these mistakes myself, so I can speak from experience.

Here’s the list in no particular order:

  • Stopping a song or starting over if you make a mistake – If you forget chords, forget lyrics, or if you keep messing up your rhythm playing, then that’s a sign that you need more practicing and rehearsing. Stopping a song or starting over is probably the worst thing a musician could ever do. It’s okay to mess up songs. It happens all the time. Everyone does it. Just don’t stop the song. Keep playing right through it by making stuff up both the music and lyrics, that way nobody would notice if you’ve made a mistake. It’s embarrassing when this happens, right? Sure is. I’ve seen musicians do this before and even I’ve done it a few times. Never again.
  • Not having back up for an instrument, amplifier or P.A. system – I’ve seen bands and musicians stop gigs & cut them short ’cause their equipment goes out. This is why you should get an extra one for back up.
  • Playing your instrument out of tune or singing out of tune – Playing in tune is important. It’s no joke!
  • Performing while sick – The show must go on sure, but don’t be afraid to cancel or postpone the gig, if you’re not feeling well. There are too many musicians that perform while sick. You shouldn’t. If you’re ill, you could play a sloppy performance, and you don’t want to look sick on stage, right?
  • Tuning on stage, in front of the crowd – Wasting time tuning is probably the worst thing ever. When you want to tune, do it early before the gig. If your instrument goes out of tune during the performance, unplug the guitar and then tune with an electronic tuner. Nobody wants to hear musicians tuning for ten minutes or more. If you have a song that is in an alternate tuning, like I said before, bringing more than one guitar will help cover up that trick, and will take lesser time in between songs.
  • Responding to hecklers or confronting the audience walking away – It’s very rare that I see this but it does happen. If you’re getting, “You suck” from the crowd or walk aways, just ignore it and still play the gig. I’ve had people walk away from my performances all the time. I maybe a little disappointed, and sad when that happens, sure, but never say anything about it. Just keep playing for the people who stuck around to see you. When you respond, it’s a pretty childish thing to do.
  • Being rude to the soundman during soundcheck before the gig – Yeah, doing the sound before the gig may sound annoying and frustrating, but don’t have a negative attitude if you can’t hear your instrument. There’s a very good chance, he could turn the sound off on ya and you could get kicked off the gig. Even if he can be rude or be a prick to you first, you don’t be mean to him in return. Just be a professional. Yes, there can be rude soundmen out there. I’ve seen it.
  • Dressing terribly on stage – The way you dress is pretty important. Dress the way that fits your genre of music. You don’t have to dress fancy and nice at all of your gigs. Only dress fancy and nice on special occasions. If you play a gig at a fancy restaurant or night club, that’s when you want to dress all pretty. At bars, you can wear pretty much anything. At cafes and diners, keep the clothing casual.
  • Not bringing in a crowd – If you’re just playing to the owner only, of course, this could be the biggest mistake a band or artist ever make. I love those bands that complain and whine that nobody showed up. Well, hell, I wonder why? It’s probably because they aren’t promoting enough and not inviting people! Don’t blame the venue or the booking person. It’s your job to bring in an audience, not theirs!
  • Sucking, or playing terribly – If you’re booked a gig, and then play a bad show, then you need to stop gigging for a while, and practice more. This is pretty much the reason, I stopped gigging for a while to improve my talent.

There you go, I could probably come up with even more, but those ten are the most common.

Bodybuilding shouldn’t be about posing or showing off, in my opinion…

A lot of people mistakenly believe that bodybuilding is always about looking the greatest being half naked. Posing, and showing off in front of everybody. That stuff is great, and respectful, but in my opinion, that’s not what bodybuilding to me is about. To me bodybuilding is all about making life for the better. I’ve explained it on this blog before. You don’t have to have a sexy and hot muscular bod. That would be nice to have, I would like a body like that too, but that’s not what I look for in bodybuilding. In bodybuilding, it just helps make you a much better person and helps make you have a better life.

It’ll help you do better things in life. Will help you do a lot more physical things in life without injury. You can do more sporting activities or help people do outside work without injury and will be able to do that stuff. It’ll help make you healthier on the inside, you won’t get sick as much. Plus, bodybuilding will help you become a more sociable person. People will talk to you more if they see if you have a ripped physique.

I’ll admit that I’m kind of a shy and anti-social person, but bodybuilding is helping me become a more sociable person. It’s helping me be more confident talking to people a lot more often. How does bodybuilding help make you more outgoing? Well, the more successful you get in bodybuilding, the more respect you get by people around you. Trust me, they’ll talk to you ’cause they respect you for your fitness dreams and goals. Bodybuilding will also help get you a nice lover in your life. I haven’t gotten a girlfriend out of this yet, but this did help me get more confidence talking to women a lot more.

Bodybuilding can help get you out of stress and will help you become more happier and more upbeat. See? Bodybuilding doesn’t have to be about building the greatest muscle ever. It’s all about enjoying life and enjoying every minute of it. There’s too many reasons why I got into bodybuilding that’s hard to explain, but another reason is that I wanted to prove people that I can be good at something, and wanted something to do other than music.

Don’t always look at bodybuilding for having the greatest body ever ’cause it doesn’t have to be. I may have a lot of work to do in my physique, but I don’t care. Just not rushing, and just enjoying life. That’s what bodybuilding should be about.
