I'm a musician, singer/songwriter, blogger, writer, poet, bodybuilder, movie lover, music lover, video gamer, history/political buff, conservative/republican, etc. I like to do a lot of things.

Thought: Why do I talk about bands & musicians so much? Where do my rants come from?

Some of you wonder why I talk about bands & musicians so much. The unsigned acts is what I’m referring to. Where do my rants come from? I do realize that my rants on local bands maybe kind of harsh sometimes, but the things I say, I mean well.

The rants usually get inspired by social media like facebook or other forums and blogs. A lot of bands would get caught up in the craziest delusions. They can be crazy, I know. I just couldn’t help myself but to use this site to get the truth out. Sometimes my rants even get inspired by going to a local show, which don’t happen much. I don’t go out to local gigs as much as I used to. It’s mostly the online world where I see things.

I try not to do it but sometimes the truth needed to be said. Musicians are crazy man. Each of us live in our own fantasy world in some way or another, that includes me. A lot of musicians want to think they’re so great, talented and pretend to be pros.

On top of all this, I just love music and love talking about it. That’s the main reason why I do it.

This Day In Music: 2/26/12

Musician Birthdays: Fats Dominoe (singer/songwriter, pianist, famous for the hit, “Blueberry Hill”, Johnny Cash (famous for hits, “Folsom Prison Blues”, “Walk the Line”, “Ring of Fire”, etc. Also famous for performing at Folsom Prison & San Quentin, he also had his own TV show and famous for his collaboration with wife June Carter, also known for working with Rick Rubin for the “American Records”, born in 1932), Erykah Badu, (US singer/songwriter, producer, poet, activist. Only two copies of the take were made when the song was completed on June 4th, 1968. One copy left the studio with Lennon that day and the other remained behind. It was unclear which copy appeared on the bootleg, nor how anyone acquired it.

My Whitney cover, best thing I ever done musically???

It appears so!!! The positive feedback just keeps coming, plus the views on the youtube video is up to a little over 540 views. Honestly, I didn’t think my cover would be that great. I thought I was gonna suck at it. The song was rehearsed very quickly and it was very simple. I didn’t do it the way Dolly or Whitney sang it, I just gave my own style to it. I gave it a folk music kind of feeling as you can hear.

It means a lot that people actually enjoy something I did. It really does, and I know how critical people can be over my music over the years. It’s pretty flattering.

I’m hoping that video would reach a million views. Could it be a future internet sensation?

I’ll be doing both covers and originals for my youtube page. I want my youtube page to focus on the music more than the video blogging. Youtube is a great way to show your talent.

Tomorrow is Johnny Cash’s birthday, and I’m thinking of recording his version of “Hurt” in honor of him.

Rant: Bands & musicians hating on other bands & musicians is bad karma for your career…

If you want to actually get somewhere and become successful in your music, then you need to leave your egos at the door and stop the hate. When I first started out, I admit that I used to do it and admit it was a big mistake. Wish I never did it, but I’m trying let the past be the past and move forward.

The internet maybe a good tool to come on here and voice your opinions & honesty toward other bands & music artists, but to be honest, it isn’t really a good thing to do. There are musicians in facebook & craigslist still doing these things. The question you need to ask yourself is this, “Do I want to be a good musician or a bad guy?”

This isn’t reality TV or the soap operas, folks. This is the real world. People can see what you write on your keyboards. If you’re going to act like a douchebag on the computer, then that’s how I am going to look at you in person. If you act like a douchebag on the computer, and if you try to act all nice and friendly to me in person, do you think I’m going to be nice to you in return? Hell no. I won’t be afraid to tell you that you’ve been an idiot online lately.

Think how being a douchebag online will ruin your career. Your band members could walk out and quit on ya or you could get fired. The club refuses to book your band ’cause you’ve been an idiot online, you could even get banned from the clubs. You could lose a lot of fans.

If you’re not happy with the way things go for ya in the music world, then just shut your mouth, play your music and keep your opinions to yourself. This has been a learning experience for me, so I’m learning.

I know a lot of bands won’t take this advice, ’cause some of them will continue to act like douchebags, but bad karma will get them in the end, trust me. You have to be a 100% professional in the real world and online. I’m trying the best I can.

Netflix Pick (DVD): The Lincoln Lawyer

I know I stopped reviewing movies from Netflix for a while. I’ve still been renting movies from Netflix and streaming them, it’s just that I haven’t been seeing anything good lately. Finally, I saw something really good, something that I actually liked.

Last night, I finally got around to watching, “The Lincoln Lawyer”. A courtroom drama movie, starring Matthew McConaughey. The film also stars Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillipe, and William H. Macy.

The story tells of a young rich playboy named Louis Roulet, (played by Ryan Phillipe) who is accused of raping and beating a prostitute. Matthew’s character, Mickey Haller, is a self defense attorney who has nothing but his car (which is a Lincoln), he has his own driver, and Mickey is also a member of a biker gang. Mickey is hired to help defend Louis in trial. Louis claims that the woman is trying to take money from him and set him up, but as new evidence starts to pile in, Mickey began to grow suspicious that Louis isn’t telling him everything.

If you’re a fan of legal drama and court room stories, you would definitely enjoy this movie. I sure did. This was a really good performance by Matthew McConaughey. I was never that big of a fan of the guy until I saw him in this movie. He just got a little more respect. His acting was really good, that makes you wish that this guy was a real life lawyer. William H. Macy wasn’t in the movie that much, pretty much a cameo appearance but his acting was really good too, as usual.

This is not an action movie even though the trailers tried to make it look like one. It’s a strictly drama film, but a real good one. It was pretty suspenseful, it kept you guessing toward the end. You’ll be hooked with the story right from the start. If you’re looking for a good film to watch on the weekend, buy this or rent it.

I’ll admit that Rick Santorum is a bit crazy, but that’s what I like about him…

All those that say that Santorum is a crazy & insane guy in the GOP race. I’ll admit, that I agree somewhat, but you have to come to think of it, that sometimes you have to be crazy to become successful in something. As long as Santorum is moving on up in the election, he must be doing something right. Think about it. Doesn’t matter what you think about him.

If Rick can win Arizona and Michigan on Tuesday, I think he’ll be caught up with Romney, or maybe get ahead of him in the delegates.

All presidential candidates don’t always have to be perfect and normal, all the time right? No!!! Life like that would be boring, so it don’t hurt to have a bit of crazy in you. He’s just doing whatever it takes to win the GOP nomination and get elected President after, which is pretty ballsy.

Why are people calling Rick insane and not the other candidates? I think the other guys are more of a lunatic than Rick is.

At least Rick stays positive and has a good attitude. I’ll be watching the Arizona/Michigan primaries Tuesday to see who wins both states. I’m pretty sure Rick is going to take both of those States.

Thought: “Breaking Bad” is my new favorite show!!!

After all the few TV shows that I love to watch like “Friday Night Lights”, “24”, “The Walking Dead”, “Game of Thrones”, “Dexter”… you can now add “Breaking Bad” to the list!!! “Breaking Bad” is such an incredibly addicting show. I couldn’t stop watching ever since I started.

I’m just amazed on how realistic the show is. These things that happen in the show can happen to people in real life. The show just wants to help bring awareness to cancer. Not only that, it also wants to give you an example of how being a drug dealer can mess up your life terribly, so you won’t do it.

The writing of the show is just excellent. The cast is very well acted. Especially, Bryan Cranston who plays Walt, wow, what a phenomenal actor he is. The show is pretty unpredictable too. It can go into some pretty interesting twist and turns. The show can get pretty intense and dramatic as well. Some of the storylines can be become pretty shocking and some can be very sad. I won’t spoil things for you but I can give you a hint that if you think the characters on the show will end in a happy ending for them, think again.

While it’s a shame that the show will only be getting 5 seasons, I can definitely see this show being made into a big screen movie too. I think Skyler (Walt’s wife), is a great character too.

People in facebook been trying to talk me into start watching it. Now I’m finally able to get around to it. I just watched the first two seasons, and I’m just starting season 3 on Netflix. Netflix don’t have Season 4 yet ’cause it’s not on DVD yet but will be soon. I want to catch up with all 4 seasons before Season 5 later this year.

After I finish watching “Breaking Bad” on Netflix, I plan to start watching, “Sons of Anarchy”. “Breaking Bad” is one of the best shows ever and it’s probably my no. 1. I can understand why the show is so popular. It feels good to finally start watching the show.

Still being unemployed sucks, but all you can do is live life the best you can…

The economy sucks so bad right now, there are no jobs out there. I’m not the only unemployed person. There are too many unemployed people out there. Many folks got laid off of jobs, and to the people that are still working their paychecks maybe getting cut and all that stuff. That’s how bad the economy is getting. During the last election, Obama promised us that he will revive the economy. That’s why he got elected. Well, he did nothing, and the economy is much worse than before.

I’ve tried looking in the classifieds, the NY Department of Labor, and other websites on the internet. There’s nothing out there.  I even tried sending in a few applications at a few local business’s in my hometown but got nothing back from them.

While the job thing maybe tough, the best thing you can do is live life the best you can. Stay strong and be happy. That’s all you can do these days. A lot of people would get depressed or even suicidal when they can’t find work. Not me. I’m going to stay strong and positive.

The Ultimate Warrior’s “It Does Matter” videos is inspiring me that life can be great. With the Ultimate Warrior’s “OWN” campaign he started, he just wants people to have the best life possible. That’s the point with all his videos in his youtube channel. The Warriorman is not all about himself, he wants to help other people as you can tell. That’s why he’s an inspiration. He wants people to have a successful life even if times are tough these days.

Back with the economy, this is why I believe Rick Santorum would be the best choice for President. If he’s elected, the economy and jobs will get a lot better. He will do something about it. He seems pretty serious about it and I believe in him. People call Santorum crazy & insane, but I don’t see anything crazy about him. People call him crazy & insane without anything to back it up with, it’s just an opinion, that’s it. I believe Rick will win the GOP nomination as well, and he’s getting up there. Rick is the real deal.

In the past, I used to have no problem getting a job, but getting a job is so tough today, that’s what I call crazy. I’ll get a job at some point, hopefully this Spring/Summer. Maybe the job economics will pick up a little. I doubt it though.

Like I said in another blog post before, being unemployed isn’t so bad. You can still live a great and happy life.
