Report: JJ Abrams changes his mind about working on Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” series into films, he won’t be doing them…

A long while back, JJ Abrams said he was talking about wanting to make the “Dark Tower” novel series into films by Stephen King. It seems that JJ changed his mind and said he won’t be doing them. The reasons?

JJ admits he was overwhelmed by the six years of working on “Lost”, he refuses to do another 7 years working on the “Dark Tower” series. Keep in mind there are a total of 7 “Dark Tower” series. I have them all and read them all.

JJ says, he will be willing to see, “The Dark Tower” movies made by someone else, but it won’t be him, since he is a Stephen King fanatic.

From MTV News:

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/11/10/jj-abrams-will-not-be-building-his-dark-tower/

That really sucks. I was hoping JJ would stick with them. Oh well. I’m sure there are other good directors that would take over. Directors that I think would make great Dark Tower flicks: Ridley Scott, Peter Jackson, and Sam Raimi.

Please, just stay away from Brett Ratner and Michael Bay.

If these Dark Tower series can’t be made into movies at all, why not make them into video games instead? If you read the books, you can easily see that these would make great video games for the Ps3/Xbox.

Cool Video: “Clash of the Titans” movie, I once trashed this remake, now I’m looking forward to it!!!

I remember I keep trashing this movie, saying that there is no need for a “Clash of the Titans”, remake since the original is so good. Now I say, bring on the remake! The trailer surfaced the internets. Here it is. Enjoy. I fuckin’ loved the trailer. Felt goosebumps. The movie looks freakin’ sweet and now I’m excited to see this. Consider me at the theaters for this film, definitely!

This film looks way better than the overrated, “300” movie.

Report: Steven Spielberg and Will Smith NOT doing “Old Boy”…

Steven Spielberg and Will Smith has both planned to do a film titled, “Old Boy” which was supposed to be adapted from the Japanese manga. Everyone assumed it was going to be a remake from the South Korean film, but Spielberg and Smith said it wasn’t. Spielberg and Smith seemed really excited and psyched to do this film until now.

It appears that Mandate studios didn’t like the idea of the movie. Movie fans hated this idea all over the internet, it seems that Mandate agrees with us movie fans that the idea of this movie just sucks.

You see, the Hollywood officials are even strict on directors who are legends and actors who are icons. They don’t care how big of a star you are. They’re not going to release something that doesn’t catch the public’s attention. So Spielberg and Smith won’t be doing this movie. Thank god.

Smith will indeed star in a Steven Spielberg movie one day, definitely, just not this one. So if you think that huge directors and big movie stars can do any film they want, think again.

Hollywood is a shady business. If a film doesn’t make the money, they won’t do it.

Owner of the “Command Performance” official movie website writes in…

The owner of the “Command Performance” official website e-mailed me by responding to my review. I thought I would post his e-mail publicily for all readers to see.

He wrote in that Dolph really did push for a theatrical wide release, maybe even a limited release, but the producers, and First Look studios didn’t really like it.

Don’t worry Dolph! “The Expendables” will definitely help get you out of your straight to DVD career!

Check out the e-mail under the line below.

Hey, I’m the owner of dolph-ultimate.com and webmaster of www.commandperformance-themovie.com,
glad you enjoyed the movie and spread the word about it throughout the year as well
I don’t know why I say that, but I just wanted to let you know for your information that Dolph did want and pushed for a theatrical run, even limited. But the producers and more so the releasing company FirstLook, didn’t care and really didn’t help promoting the movie properly (ie the lame DVD cover and tagline, lack of the announced special features etc)
Dolph is a really hard-working man and is taking more and more control over his career since he stepped up in the director’s chair 5 years ago (you should check out his debuts The Defender & The Russian Specialist by the way!)
cheers,
Jeremie

Film Review: Command Performance

Starring: Dolph Lundgren, Melissa Ann Smith

Directed by: Dolph Lundgren

So today at Best Buy, I picked up Dolph’s new Direct-To-DVD movie, “Command Performance”.

Here is my review:

Plot/Synopsis: Joe’s rock n’ roll band is about to open a huge show in Russia for an American pop star, named, Venus. Joe is a drummer for the band which his band just got offered a record deal by Venus, the pop star. As Venus, hits the stage to perform, Russian terrorists began to take over the concert arena. Killing almost everyone including the audience at random. The terrorist holds Venus, the Russian President, and the presidents two little daughters hostage for ransom. Joe is the only civilian left in the concert arena and now it’s all up to him on how to survive. Joe also teams up with a Russian F.S.B. agent.

Only thing though, Joe won’t use guns because he is afraid of them, he would only fight with his bare hands. The reason is, he used to be in a biker gang in his past and his brother was murdered by Colombians in front of his face. Joe, now must rescue the hostages and kill the terrorist leader, Coleg.

Judging by the plot/synopsis of the film, I thought the film was going to be kind of stupid. I bought it ’cause I was a fan of Dolph and was curious to see it, ’cause it looked like a pretty good action ride.

It was a fun action movie, but it was more than that. It turned out to be a serious film, something like this can happen in real life. The film was shot with cheap 35mm cameras, very low budget film, it was paid for $4 million. The movie was actually shot in Russia.

I have never seen any of Dolph’s straight to DVD movies in the past, but I was actually pretty impressed with, “Command Performance”. It actually had a good story. It was pretty gripping and unpredictable in fact. Some impressive fight scenes and some humor throughout.

I can see that Dolph’s film making style is very similar to Sly Stallone, so you can tell that Dolph learned his film making from Sly mostly. Just because a movie goes straight to DVD doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s not that the studio doesn’t want it go to theater. Maybe the director, Dolph, doesn’t care to make it go to theater. Dolph just makes movies just for the love of making movies, not caring if his movies go to theater or not.

I kind of wished this movie DID get a nationwide theater release ’cause I can see this film doing well in the box office. Oh well, I’m sure this film will sell well on DVD anyways.

Dolph is gonna do great in “The Expendables” when that movie hits theaters. It’s going to be awesome to see Dolph back on the big screen finally when “Expendables” hits the theater.

Dolph’s “Command Performance” kicks total ass. I fuckin’ loved it! Great work Dolph!

Score for “Command Performance” = **** (4 stars as in “Excellent”)

Report: Eminem to star the leading role in “Shady Talez” horror film…

Eminem will star the leading role in another film called, “Shady Talez”, which looks to be a horror film. Eminem doesn’t star in leading roles in films much. His last big screen role was 2002’s “8 Mile” (pictured above). “Shady Talez” is described as The Twilight Zone meets Creepshow.

Although the article doesn’t explain the plot to “Shady Talez”, sounds like it’s another one of those films that has more than one short stories. Is Marshall Mathers playing the storyteller?

More on it here:

Very cool. I’m glad Eminem is starring the leading role in a new film finally. He’s actually a good actor in the movies as I fucking LOVED, “8 Mile”. “8 Mile” is one of my favorite films.

Report: Aykroyd, Timberlake, Faris are starring in “Yogi Bear” live action/CGI movie…

Yogi Bear is finally heading to the big screen! The film will be a live action and CGI animated both at the same time. It will take place at no where other than, Yellowstone Park. Starring the film will be Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake, and Anna Faris. Shooting will start in New Zealand, next month. The film will be directed by Eric Brevig.

Aykroyd will be the one voicing Yogi, and Timberlake will be voicing Boo Boo. Faris will be playing a live action character which she will portray as a documentary film maker in, “Yogi”.

The article doesn’t explain what the plot will be so it looks like the plot will be kept underwraps for now.

Dolph Lundgren’s “Command Performance” on DVD/Blu Ray now!!!

Dolph Lundgren’s “Command Performance”, a straight to DVD movie is out on DVD/Blu Ray in stores now. I think I will buy the DVD this week, I’m interested in seeing the film. This movie was released on Nov. 3rd, the same day that Dolph’s birthday is on. So yeah, Dolph has a very good reason to celebrate his birthday about!  That was another reason he appeared on Conan O’ Brien, to help promote this film that was just released on his birthday.

Although this film looks goofy and silly, it looks like a blast to watch with lots of action.

Thought: Speaking of Dolph Lundgren

After seeing Dolph on Conan O’ Brien last night, briefly, I thought of something. Dolph is obviously most well known for playing Ivan Drago in “Rocky IV” which is why he got on “The Tonight Show” to begin with ’cause he knew the audience would give him a huge crowd reaction. When Dolph showed up on stage, you saw in that video that the crowd loved Dolph.

What I don’t understand is, if everyone still loves Dolph, why does the man continue to have a direct-to-DVD career? When he tries to do a theaterical release movie like “Masters of the Universe”, “Universal Soldier” or “The Punisher”, he fails in the box office at those movies. Dolph hasn’t had a theaterical release movie in a long time.

This is about to change, Dolph fans.

Stallone got Dolph in, “The Expendables”, and that movie is theaterical release WORLDWIDE, not direct to DVD. I’m sure “The Expendables” will be a box office smash and that film will help Dolph become a mainstream star again like he was back in his Rocky IV days.

After “The Expendables”, I’m sure that film will help Dolph’s film directing career big time. He won’t be a straight to DVD king anymore after that film is released.

I kind of feel bad for Dolph that he hasn’t had a good film career, but I still give him the respect that he kept working over the years. Dolph is a talented guy and he deserves a successful career. This will happen for him, after “The Expendables”.
