Thought: Amy Winehouse should be remembered for her music, not her drug use and partying lifestyle…

When people want to remember Amy as her drug use and partying lifestyle, I think it’s wrong and unfair. Personal problems should be kept away from the music. Amy’s music may not be for everyone but her music and her talent was so special, in a lot of ways. She was a pop music artist, yes, but she wrote pop music like no other artist would. Most pop artists are mostly electronica & dance stuff. Not Amy’s music though. She had a mix of R&B, jazz, big band swing, etc.

You can’t deny that Amy was a very talented singer. She may have been losing her talent and all before she died, but everyone should respect her the great talent that she was.

Like her or not, she’s going to leave behind a huge legacy for her music. She was a new breakout artist who just started. She only had two albums and I think she just finished a new album with Mark Ronson before she died. They’ll probably release it too.

I’m sure she had plenty of unreleased material that the record labels will probably release also. I can see Mark and the record labels will try to get the public to respect her for the music. “Back To Black” was an incredible mind blowing album. I’m not saying that because she died, I was listening to that album all the time even when she was alive. I still listen to the album all the time. It’s one of my top ten favorite records ever. Love it to death.

No matter how she died, she’s just too young to go. She had an incredible singing voice and I wished I had seen her live in concert. The labels will keep her legacy in music alive just like they do with Joplin, Hendrix, and Jim Morrison. Like her or not, it is tragic that we lost Amy.

Report: Nirvana “Nevermind” album cover photo censored on facebook!!!

When Nirvana was going to promote their “Deluxe Edition” of “Nevermind”, facebook staff pulled the album cover you see above because of the naked baby on the photo. Facebook said it was against the TOS because nudity wasn’t allowed.

Read more on the story, here.

That is pretty silly and wrong for facebook to do that. Nirvana has been around way before facebook was launched.

It seems the team behind Nirvana negotiated with facebook to have the picture back on their page because it looks like Nirvana has it back up, here.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the Nevermind “20th Anniversary Delux edition”. I love Nirvana. Yep, facebook enforces the TOS on everybody, doesn’t matter if you’re a famous band or celebrity. They take action on everybody no matter who breaks the rules.

Thought: Who should play Amy Winehouse for her biopic film when they do one?

Now that Amy is gone, you can expect Hollywood to make a biopic film about her where an actress would play the deceased pop star. The actress would have to match her look and be around the same age.

Here are my picks of young actresses that should play Amy:

  • Scarlett Johansson – Scarlett is just about Amy’s age and she has the good enough acting chops to play just about anything, plus she can sing and has musical experience.
  • Megan Fox – For years, Megan and Amy have been compared to each other. They both look kind of similar. Just give Megan the similar clothing Amy wears, the same tattoos, and there you go, Megan would look exactly like Amy. Megan doesn’t sing but she could learn for the film.
  • Keira Knightley – She’s got Amy’s look a little bit too.
  • Natalie Portman – Simply because she did a great job with “Black Swan”, I think Natalie would be a good fit.
  • Christina Aguilera – She did a good job playing the leading role in the film “Burlesque” which is a film that I actually enjoyed, plus, she’s an actual musician and singer too. She wouldn’t be a bad pick.

I would go see an Amy Winehouse biopic film, depending on who’s directing and starring in it. I just hope they make it an Oscar winning movie when they do one.

Amy Winehouse death gets mixed reactions online…

Some are sad and they grieve over her death. Some just don’t care. Some are glad that she’s gone. I look at all of this, and I’m thinking to myself like, “Really?” To the ones that don’t care, I find it pretty disrespectful in Amy’s honor. Yet, everyone grieved over the death of Heath Ledger, when he had a drug addiction too. Heath died of a drug overdose, yet people seem to feel sorry for him and not Amy. See what’s wrong with the picture?

I’m sad over her death because it reminded me of someone in my life who died of drugs at a young age. Drug addicts can’t help for what they are. It’s a hard demon to get rid of.

On top of that, folks, I wouldn’t call this a drug overdose yet. You shouldn’t really jump into speculation, because what if she didn’t die of drugs at all? Maybe she had a terrible accident and got really sick. I thought it would be drugs sure, like everyone else, but you never know when they do the autopsy and get the toxicology reports in. She may have even died pretty clean, ya never know.

I’m sad over her death because I loved her music and a die hard fan. Like her or not, she was talented. Her death was tragic. She’s a sad loss in the music world, agree with it or not.

Drug addicts are human beings and they should be treated like one, despite the problems.RIP Amy.

Did social media change the way we all look at music???

Whether it’s local music or national music, seems like all bands and artists have joined the social media bandwagon. All musicians & bands seem to have their own official website, blogs, twitter, facebook, etc. In the past, myspace used to be a big hit with music, but people are no longer interested in myspace anymore. These days it’s all blogs, twitter, and facebook when bands are promoting themselves.

What is it about everyone joining the social media bandwagon?

Not only that it’s an easy way to promote yourself like your gigs, project announcements, etc. Bands & artists see it as an opportunity to interact with their fans in a more personal way. Bands have been chatting back and forth with their fans in social media pages lately.

Back in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and even the 80’s, when there was no internet around, it made music promoting a lot harder. Back in those days, you had to use flyers to hang in town and mailing lists by regular mail if you wanted to promote your music. Newspapers and magazines were also used to  promote music in those days. Today, it seems that music promoting is much easier.

I’m not trying to sound negative, but I’m going to be honest here. I think the internet pretty much killed the music business. Nobody is buying records anymore because of it. Everyone is doing everything online these days.

It seems that more bands are getting record deals because of the internet but is that a good thing? No, not really. I miss the old days of music when the A&R guy used to go to a band show and just sign a band to a major label because he/she likes their music, that’s how it used to be done in the old days, but it’s not like that anymore. These days labels sign bands based on their popularity alone, not caring if their music is good or not.

I miss the old school ways of promoting music and wish it was still like that. I know I’m sounding like a hypocrite, that I do this social media thing myself, but I do it because everyone else is doing it. I’ll never forget the quote from John Mellencamp, “I think the internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb.”, or something like that.

It’s easier for bands online to make themselves look popular when in reality, a lot of them are nothing. Bands have been releasing free music to the internet like what Radiohead have been doing as of late and a lot of bands have been making their own youtube videoblogs.

Self publicity is great, don’t get me wrong, but I believe the internet has taken the love of music away from bands & musicians itself. Social media has certainly changed the way we all look at music, but honestly, it didn’t help, it only makes the music business much much worse.

Cool Video: Dave Grohl kicks out fan for fighting at Itunes Festival concert…

Usually when kids cause trouble at rock concerts, the bands usually don’t do anything and let the security take care of it. Well, Dave Grohl decided to take care of it himself at the Itunes Festival, when a fan was fighting with other kids. Dave stopped the band in the middle of a song and started swearing and yelling at the kid. He told the fan to get out of his show.

Dave is the man for this. He just cared for his fans safety and he didn’t want this idiot to ruin the fun. Enjoy this hilarious video. I think this was real. It wasn’t an act or scripted or anything.

Jimmy Page is back!!!

Today is a huge day in the world of music, because guitar legend and one of my biggest idols, Jimmy Page is back! Jimmy Page finally launched his official website today.

Check it out, here.

Keep in mind that the website will be very slow loading because of heavy traffic, plus you need to register to see the full site which I did register this morning. I’m still taking time to look through the whole site and there are a lot of broken links on there, but I understand. It’s brand new. Jimmy Page and his webmasters are new to this official website thing. Jimmy never had an official website before. Robert Plant and John Paul Jones had their own official sites for years, never Jimmy. It’s just that Jimmy was never into the internet until now.

So far, I’m loving the site. It shows everything about Jimmy’s career from the past until now. No news on an new album, but I’m sure he’ll announce a new musical project.

Seriously, guys, I love Jimmy Page so much as a guitarist and a musician. He’s pretty much the reason I got into music. I wanted to play guitar like him. I’m always looking deep into his guitar style to figure how he does things. Most of my own guitar playing is Jimmy Page inspired

In other Jimmy Page news, Jimmy reunited with the Black Crowes in London last night. Check out the cool video below. Glad the man is back, finally!!!

How big of a Jimmy Page fan I am?

When it comes to music, and guitar playing, some people might wonder who are my biggest influences & inspiration. I’m such a huge Jimmy Page fan. How big? VERY! I have studied and listened to his guitar playing for years. I’ve followed his music throughout his career, even all the projects he did outside of Zeppelin, before & after. Everything from The Yardbirds, The Firm, Coverdale/Page, The Black Crowes, his solo album “Outrider”, his duo career with Robert Plant, etc. I”ve followed everything he has done over the years.

I read almost every magazine interview he has done and I try to learn his secrets about recording. Even though he is well known as a guitar player, he is underrated for the work he does in recording and producing albums. As some of you know, he has recorded and produced most Led Zeppelin albums himself. This guy is a genius in the studio. I believe he was the one who discovered “backward echo’.

Also, not everyone thinks Jimmy Page is a good guitar player. Some people accuse him of playing really “sloppy” a lot of times. You know what? I kind of actually agree with that, he is kind of a sloppy player, but the way I look at him though, that he is not worried about being a “perfectionist”. When you want to be a great guitar player, I wouldn’t worry about being “perfect”. Just play whatever’s in your heart and soul, play whatever feels good to you. Guitar playing don’t have to be perfect, right? No.

Jimmy Page is an improvising guitar player. He has a really great ear, and everything he plays, is never really written down, he just wings everything. He’s a great rhythm player, he’s good at making rock riffs and most importantly, he’s one of the best lead guitar soloists out there. He picked up the guitar at age 12, never really took lessons, he was a self taught player.

Jimmy Page inspired me so much, that I wanted to be a guitar player just like him. I love so many guitar players (like Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Dimebag, etc.), but Pagey is my no. 1. If you’ve noticed a lot of my songwriting has been inspired from Page’s guitar playing a little bit. I’ll admit that I borrowed a little bit from him.

I so can’t wait for his website Thursday and can’t wait to see what he has in store for us. I hope it’s something big like a new music project like everyone else is hoping. I have a feeling it maybe something huge. That’s why he did countdown thing early, to hype it up. Get everyone excited and it’s working. Most guitarists and Led Zeppelin fans are getting excited about it. It is probably a new album, whether a solo album or a collaboration. We’ll find out Thursday.

Thought: Could this be Jimmy Page’s next musical project? Supergroup with Jack White and the Edge???

So let me get this straight. Jack White split up the White Stripes. The Edge is just getting done with the tour with U2, and Jimmy Page is announcing something huge on his website. Does this mean that Jimmy Page just made a new album with Jack and the Edge? I’m hoping that’s what this is, but I doubt it. Would be cool though. We’ll wait and see.
