BREAKING NEWS: Neil Diamond coming to Albany in August…

Legendary singer Neil Diamond is releasing a new album titled “Home Before Dark” April 29th, the same day that Madonna’s “Hard Candy” will be released. Talk about a competition in the Billboard. Neil Diamond announced a 37 city North American tour and he will make a stop at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. August 20th.

Thought: Myspace music is not good for your music and the music industry…seriously think about this…

The bands and musicians out there who think myspace is a good promoting tool for your music, do you really think so? I don’t. I used to think it was a great promoting tool to quickly get your name out there, but myspace does not make you well known. It may make you popular in myspace, yes, true, but it does not make you popular out in the real world.

A lot of those bands and music artists in myspace, I’m not just talking about the Capital District of Albany music, I’m talking about most every unsigned artist and band in the site, many of myspace bands/artists aren’t really popular as they make themselves out to be in myspace. A lot of them may have over 20,000 friends, over 20,000 listens in the songs, etc. but that does not make them well known in their area. I know plenty of bands around here who get jack squat for crowds and then they’re on their myspaces “thanking the fans for coming out” at the show refusing to admit that no one came.

The reason myspace doesn’t really help people get out to shows, I’ll explain. Them show listings do help, but not everyone remembers your show calendar. Not everyone remembers what date your show is on even if you shown them your show ad in their comments which the person will delete in a second anyway because most people hate band advertisements.

The fans that already do go to these bands/artists local shows in the United States already probably knew the band off the computer. But bands are never gonna get these people in myspace to their shows although they pretend to in their accounts. I’ve played at least 30 shows so far and out of all them, no one came from myspace that I sent show invitations to although they say they’ll come. Mostly the people that came to my shows were my friends, some of my blog readers and some local musicians. The rest of the crowd were just regulars of the venue that go there all the time to hang out. Not people from myspace.

The bands/artists that are “popular” for real, they dont’ even use myspace because they don’t need the internet to get where they are in music.

For the bands that are signed in a indie label or major label in myspace, many of their accounts aren’t being runned by the artists themselves, it is mostly being runned by management, reps or street team.

The reason I think myspace is damaging to the music industry is because, you don’t want myspace pulling the strings on your music for ya. You want to do it all on your own. Don’t feed myspace marketing with your music, that’s what’s damaging the industry. Seriously think about it. You want to have a good music career? Myspace isn’t gonna do it for ya. Keep making the music, take some time off the internet, get out there and do your own thing. Myspace won’t give you good music opportunities.

Think about how myspace is taking over the industry. Do you really want that for music? Myspace myspace myspace. It’s all about fucking myspace, when it should be about you.

This topic may create some big controversy with the bands/artists out there but the truth needs to be said. It should be about you and your music. The music industry does not need to help market myspace.

RIP: Danny Federici 1950 – 2008

The longtime keyboardist for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Danny Federici died yesterday at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after a three year battle with melanoma. Federici has been a member of the E Street Band for over 40 years. Other than the keyboards, he also played the accordian.

Report: Bands as Madonna’s “Hard Candy”…

In celebration to Madonna “Hard Candy” album, the website NME came up with a neat word game to come up with famous band names with any kind of candy in it. The album name “Hard Candy” is inspired because Madonna loves candy, can you tell with her missing teeth? I know, bad joke.

http://www.nme.com/news/friday-fun/36019

Here are my choices:

The Red Hot Sweettarters (Red Hot Chilli Peppers)

The Mars Bar Volta (Mars Volta)

Stone Temple Nerds (Stone Temple Pilots)

Rolohead (Radiohead)

Black Sabba-Reeses (Black Sabbath)

Counting Jollys (Counting Crows, Jollys taking from “Jolly Ranchers” candy)

Van Hershey’s (Van Halen)

Led Wonkas (Led Zeppelin, Wonkas taking from Willy Wonka candies)

Smashing Twizzlers (Smashing Pumpkins)

Feel free to come up with your own.

Thought: No more myspace for the Brock…

I have decided to cancel my myspace music account today. I am actually thinking about leaving that stupid site for good. Myspace is in fact a crappy site, I actually despise it, I’ve been hating on myspace for the longest time. So many weird and crazy people in that site, people who are delusional and you can’t trust anyone there. I can explain so many reasons I hate that site. See the post I did before “10 Reasons to Hate Myspace” several entries back.

As far as uploading my music goes, there are other sites where I can do that. I’ll just go to my soundclick music page. I don’t like myspace at all. The site is pure crap.

What’s funny is that most bands and musicians think “myspace” is a great promoting tool for your music, hate to burst your bubble, but it is not. “Myspace” does not get people out to shows. I will explain more on that another time.

Myspace is a disgrace to this society. I feel much better without it and it’ll help me become less addicted to the site. There is more to life than myspace and I have found better things to do than that site. I’m thinking about cancelling my personal account too.

Thanks for your understanding.

Report: Harry Potter court drama day #4…Judge slams J.K. Rowling by calling her work “gibberish”, lol!!!!

The judge in the Harry Potter court room drama today criticized J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter work by calling it “gibberish” and “too complex”, lol, hilarious. The court hearings are finished but sounds like the judge just completely ignored all the bickering which caused him to order them to settle their differences out of the court room.

More on it here:

http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2008/04/17/2008-04-17_judge_in_harry_potter_trial_called_books.html

It sounds like there is going to be no lawsuit. The judge clearly wants them to grow up to settle things their own way. The judge don’t need to be the babysitter of Mrs. Loudmouth Rowling. Kudos to the judge, he’s doing the right thing, Rowling is just wasting her time, solving nothing.

Report: Biggest Loser, Big ratings on NBC for it’s finale…

The NBC hit show “The Biggest Loser” scored really high ratings on last Tuesday’s 2 hr finale, the show did 11.2 million viewers coming right up behind “Law and Order: SVU” which is the top show on NBC right now.

The “Biggest Loser” is hosted by Alison Sweeney, who also plays the role of Samantha Roberts in the daytime soap opera “Days of Our Lives”.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/VR1117984116.html

I think this calls for Alison of retiring “Days of Our Lives” to do more Prime Time shows. It’s a fact that Alison made the show “The Biggest Loser” a hit. Alison is pretty popular and I’m betting it’s mostly her fans that tuned in to watch her.

Alison Sweeney is not that well known yet but she will be a big star pretty quickly.

Cool Video: Barack vs. Hillary in a WWE ring…

To hype up the match with Barack vs. Hillary on RAW this coming Monday, WWE made a video in youtube where they do a “create a character” in the Raw vs. Smackdown 2008 videogame.

Think Barack and Hillary will actually have a match or will the WWE bring in fakes?

We’ll have to tune into RAW this Monday April 21st to find out if Barack and Hillary will actually be there live in person.

By the way, I think it be better if Barack got the Rock’s entrance theme song instead of Batista’s.
