Top 15 Favorite Horror Films of all time…

It’s that time of year again. October is around the corner and Halloween is nearing us. This is the time where people would start watching horror films all month. I do this list every year, sometimes the list is the same but sometimes it can be a little different with the new horror films that come out. Here is my list of my top 15 favorite horror films that I would recommend you to watch in Oct.

Here is my list, enjoy:

  1. Halloween II (Rob Zombie version): The film has been hated by critics and fans, but in my opinion, I didn’t find anything wrong with the movie at all. In fact, I thought it was the best Halloween movie ever made and it’s how the Halloween series should have been. I thought the film was well written and directed, it was actually kind of creepy as well. I always think that those who don’t like this movie, don’t understand the horror genre at all. It’s not only the best Halloween movie ever made, it’s one of my favorite horror films I’ve seen in a long time. This film is that brilliant, LOVE IT!
  2. Halloween (Carpenter version): This is a classic, had to put this one in there. It’s one of those movies you can watch so many times and never get tired of it. You learn something new every time you watch this film.
  3. Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn: This has always been my favorite Evil Dead film of them all.
  4. The Exorcist: A film I watch on every Halloween pretty much. This film is a masterpiece. Love the story of Regan and the epic performance of Max Von Sydow.
  5. Friday the 13th (remake): This may shock some people, but I thought the Friday remake was very impressive. I actually thought it was better than the originals, and the Jason Voorhees character in this film was more human and realistic. That’s pretty much why I liked it so much.
  6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake): The original Tobe Hooper version was ok, but that movie was kind of annoying hearing that girl scream throughout the entire film. This version didn’t have that. The remake was actually much scarier than the original too.
  7. The Omen (original): To throw another classic in there, I would have to list “The Omen” with Gregory Peck. It’s been one of my most watchable movies on Halloween night for a long time.
  8. Frailty: A film written and directed by Bill Paxton who also stars the leading role in. He plays a father who turns out to be a vicious serial killer. An excellent movie all around. Scary too.
  9. Wolf Creek: A film about a bunch of young travelers who go hiking in the Australian Outback, they run into a guy who pretends to help those kids, but guess what folks? He’s a serial killer! Go figure!
  10. The Strangers: A film that stars Liv Tyler, a young couple who’s on vacation. Her longtime boyfriend proposes to her but she said no. The couple gets strange visitors by three masked people. This film is scary and creepy as hell. I would recommend it.
  11. Quarantine: This film tells a story about a TV news reporter who films a documentary about firemen. The firemen and the TV reporter go investigate this building which they get trapped in, but they get strange visitors too, it’s a zombie film. This film got mixed opinions by viewers but I absolutely loved it!
  12. Paranormal Activity: A lot of people hated this film, but I liked it. I look forward to the sequel as well.
  13. The Ring (remake): Only the first one with Naomi Watts was a real good movie, didn’t care for the second one.
  14. Stephen King’s “The Mist”: To throw a Stephen King movie in there, I would have to throw in “The Mist”. Why “The Mist”? It was a creative story, it was an edge of your seat kind of movie and Thomas Jane pulled off a great performance in this film. I thought it was a great flick.
  15. The Others: A nice ghost story that has a big twist at the end. A great film that stars Nicole Kidman.

Don’t get mad if I don’t list any of the important classics, so many great horror films out there. I just listed the ones that were my favorites. Enjoy!

Thought: Yes, I know another “Superman” post, my idea for casting…

When Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan find it’s director, then they’ll have to start casting. They’ll also have to release the plot/synopsis of the new “Superman” movie which they haven’t release the story idea yet. Hopefully, the story will be different then “Superman: The Movie”, we certainly don’t want a remake of that, do we? I’m sure Chris Nolan and David Goyer will think of an original story, easily. Everyone thinks Superman is easy to write, but in reality, it’s not. Superman is science fiction so everything has to work.

Here is my idea on the casting for Chris Nolan/WB’s “Superman” movie, the new one:

Brock’s “Superman” casting idea:

Superman/Clark Kent: I’m definitely going for Jon Hamm. He’s a good pick even though it was just a rumour. Hopefully they go after him.

Lois Lane: Wouldn’t surprise me if they get, Maggie Gyllenhaal for the role.

Jimmy Olsen: I bet Chris will go for Cillian Murphy on this one. It seems that Cillian is in almost every Chris Nolan movie, Cillian might be good for Jimmy Olsen.

Perry White: Mark my words, they’re gonna go with Gary Oldman on this one.

Lex Luthor (if they use him): I suggest they use Michael Rosenbaum from the “Smallville” TV series for Luthor.

Jonathan Kent (Clark’s father): I think they’ll use Michael Caine for this role. If not him, I’d like to see Liam Neeson get it.

Martha Kent (Clark’s mother): They need an actress with talent for this role, someone special. I would say either Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep.

I’d be surprised if I get one or two of those predictions right.

Lets pray that Warner Bros. will keep the John Williams theme for Superman…

I would like to know if Christopher Nolan plans on keeping the classic John Williams theme song for the next, “Superman” movie. I’m sure he would. It would be stupid if Warner Bros. ditched the classic John Williams theme for something different. Many Superman fans like myself want to hear the classic opening theme that everyone wants to hear. I’m sure Chris will stay true to that as well. I’m sure Chris will hire a different composer for the next Supes flick, but he must keep the opening title theme heard in the video below. If they get rid of the John Williams classic, they will anger a lot of Superman fans and Chris could get a nasty backlash. I’m positive Chris will use this theme. Hopefully.

Thought: Why Zack Snyder should NOT direct the next Superman movie…

“Watchmen” was a great movie, don’t get me wrong. That still doesn’t mean he will make “Superman” a great movie if he was picked. The reason he wouldn’t fit is simply because “Watchmen” didn’t feel like a Christopher Nolan movie. Plus, I don’t see Synder making “Superman” into an action packed movie that everybody wants. He would concentrate on the story and drama more than the action, like he did with “Watchmen” and the movie, “300”. He has a very strong knowledge with comics and superheroes yes, but that doesn’t mean he’ll tell a good, Superman, story. He just wouldn’t work for a lot of reasons. I can’t see him doing a Superman movie as he would totally ruin it, in my opinion. He’s a good director, don’t get me wrong but Supes is not for him. I just simply don’t want him making Supes similar to “Watchmen” and “300” which is what he’ll do to the next Supes flick. Know what I mean? I just hope Chris doesn’t pick him.

Report: Rob Zombie kills, “The Blob” remake for the “Lords of Salem” instead…

Director/musician, Rob Zombie, finally decided to kill his, “Blob” remake and decided to do something different instead. Rob’s next directorial project will be a film called, “Lords of Salem”. If you’re a fan of Rob’s music, you would know that the “Lords of Salem” was also named after one of Rob’s solo songs.

The film is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300 year old coven of witches.

See the article at Deadline, here.

For those who doesn’t understand where Rob got the inspiration from, the Lords of Salem is a story taken from the Salem-witch-trials back in between 1692-1693. Do the math, 300 years ago would land around that time in the 1600’s.

This project sounds much better than, “The Blob” remake we don’t need. Thank you Rob!!!! 🙂

BREAKING NEWS: Christopher Nolan and WB’s finally on the hunt for “Superman” director!!!

Look like the next “Superman” movie will come first before, “The Dark Knight III”. Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, are finally on the hunt for a director for the next Supes flick. They already have a list of directors they are in contact with, different directors hoping to get the opportunity. Those directors are: Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, Duncan Jones (David Bowie’s son), and Zack Snyder.

See the article at Deadline, here.

It’s great they are moving forward with the Supes flick. That’s not a bad list of directors there. Honestly though, I would like Chris Nolan to see if he can get Richard Donner to direct again. It would be amazing if Richard would do it again ’cause he would do Superman right.

If I had to pick a choice from that list that Chris Nolan has chosen, I would pick Duncan Jones. Since “Superman” is science-fiction, Duncan Jones is a science-fiction film director. I loved the work he did with the movie, “Moon”. If Duncan did get picked, I’m sure David Bowie would get a small role for the Supers flick. Bowie wouldn’t make a bad Superman villain though.

Look like we’re gonna get a new Superman director very soon here!

Report: “The Breakfast Club” cast reunites for the first time in 25 years!!!

There’s Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson, all who have starred in one of my favorite movies of all times, “The Breakfast Club”. The cast reunited to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the legendary film directed by, John Hughes. The cast reunited to attend an event at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in NYC to pay respects for, John Hughes, who died last year.

The only one who didn’t show up was, Emilio Estevez. Why didn’t Emilio show up? I believe he’s in Canada to promote his new directed movie, “The Way” starring his father, Martin Sheen. More on it here. Maybe Emilio got too caught up in that and didn’t have the time to travel to New York to attend the Breakfast Club event. I’m sure the rest of the cast asked Emilio to attend the John Hughes event, but Emilio, just released a new movie. I’m pretty sure Emillio wanted to attend, though.

If you want to see what Emilio Estevez looks like now, see the video of him below. Yep, Emilio hasn’t changed a bit. He still looks the same as he did in the “Breakfast Club”.

Report: Rachel Weisz to go nude again for sex drama, “360”…

Actress, Rachel Weisz has been nude in quite several films in the past before. So she’s obviously not shy taking it all off in the movies. It looks like she will go nude again for the sex drama, “360”, which she will reunite with her “Constant Gardener” director. See the article here at, Deadline.

The more naked Rachel, the better. She’s a hot piece of ass! Movie sounds interesting.

Report: Elvira coming back to TV? Well sort of…

Elvira is returning to her roots. The halloween queen is set to go back to her Movie Macbare series back in the day but…this won’t be shown on national TV. It’s going to be aired on KDOC-TV, a local independent TV station based in the Los Angeles area in Cali.

I used to think Elvira was smoking hot back in those days. Not sure, how she’s going to look now because Cassandra Peterson (the same woman who’s played the character for years) is now 59 years old. I’m sure she can still play the character well, but not sure how good she is going to look now?

Thought: See what “Friday Night Lights” is doing to it’s cast?

“Friday Night Lights” is such a popular TV show that it’s giving the show’s cast members bigger opportunities for bigger film roles. Want some examples?

Taylor Kitsch landed a role as Bandit for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and now he’s filming the leading role in “Battleship”. Connie Britton got herself a big role as Dr. Holbrook in the “Nightmare On Elm St.” remake. Kyle Chandler recently just got a leading role for JJ Abrams sci-fi flick, “Super 8”.

I’m sure big movie roles will happen to other FNL cast members too. I’m sure big movie role opportunities will come for Minka Kelly, Aimee Teegarden, Zach Gilford, Scott Porter, and Adrianne Palicki as well. The whole FNL cast are talented actors, they’ll all get big movie careers up ahead. They already shot, FNL Season 5, that’s why some of them are already working on films.
