Cool Video: Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”…she’s my new obsession!

Have you ever had one of those moments, when you are introduced to an artist you never heard of before and you think to yourself, “Eh, she’s probably some pop artist?” Well I felt the same way when I first heard about Katy Perry. The more I listen to Katy’s music, the more her music grows on me and I begin to like it more. Now I’m a big Katy Perry fan.

The haters can say whatever they want about her, her music is really great. I really like this tune a lot. It’s got a great melody, good chorus. It’s actually pretty tight too. I can say a lot of things about this great song but maybe I’ll do that in another post another time. This is a beautiful song, like it or not.

I’m not into pop and commercial music too much, but Katy is one artist I can listen to. I don’t care if people think I’m weird for listening to her. I like whatever music I wanna like! I could probably cover this song myself on the guitar, I don’t think I will because listening to the lyrics, the song is definitely telling a story from a woman’s perspective, so no, I won’t cover it. I’ll just have fun listening to it. I wouldn’t call Katy Perry a guilty pleasure either ’cause I’m not ashamed of being a fan at all.

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater!!!

Want some shocking news for the day? Well here it is. Long time Dream Theater drummer, Mike Portnoy, announced he left the band today. The reason? To focus on other band projects and move on to other opportunities. Mike originally wanted, Dream Theater, to take a break (not quit), so Mike can focus on his other projects for a while, but the other guys in Dream Theater weren’t up for it. The other guys in DT wanted to go on without him. So Mike accepted their decisions and decided to quit the band. Mike himself revealed the sad news today on facebook, twitter, and myspace.

It’s kind of strange how Mike wants to quit, Dream Theater, since he was the one that formed the band and named the band himself. I’m a big Dream Theater fan myself. I’m also pretty sad of this news. I understand why he wants to move on to other projects but man, Dream Theater is going to be different without him.

He’s making a big mistake, in my opinion. Dream Theater could lose more fans ’cause some of them don’t want to see a Dream Theater show without, Mike behind the drum kit. Mike Portnoy is, Dream Theater. The other guys in the band could easily be replaceable, but with Mike, no. Mike is the most recognizable member and pretty much the leader of the band. Not sure how Dream Theater would sound like with a different drummer. I’m sure am not going to see a Dream Theater concert, without Mike, that’s for sure. Dream Theater is a great band.

Mike is one of the best drummers in music and he constantly does other projects, so maybe he is getting too good for, Dream Theater. I bet when Dream Theater starts doing shows without Mike, they’ll be getting fans chanting, Mike Portnoy’s name, begging him to come back to the band.

Report: Lou Reed won’t let Susan Boyle cover “A Perfect Day”, because he’s no fan of her…

TMZ is the first to report that Susan Boyle was to perform on “America’s Got Talent” earlier this week, but she walked off the show in tears due to the fact that Lou Reed confronted her about not wanting her to perform a song he wrote called, “A Perfect Day”. It is a well known song he wrote with his legendary band, The Velvet Underground. She didn’t ask his permission to perform the song and he wouldn’t give permission for her to sing it because he simply is no fan of, Susan Boyle.

TMZ reports.

In reality, I don’t think Lou Reed would be this mean. He don’t seem like that type of guy. I think Lou himself will speak out on this story soon to clear everything up. Maybe he’ll say this story is bullshit and made up, but maybe he’ll say there is some truth to this, don’t know. He seems like a very friendly and gracious guy. He supported all musical acts as he has performed, “A Perfect Day”, with many other famous artists in the past.

I vote BULLSHIT on this story, that it’s not true at all. Lou Reed is a professional musician. He’s been playing music for way over 30 years, his whole life revolved around music. He does allow other artists to cover his songs as well. This news is tabloids, I’m pretty sure it is.

Btw, Lou Reed is a favorite artist of mine, always has been, loved him and the Velvet Underground. Wonderful songwriter.

Thought: What if Mark David Chapman did get released from prison on parole?

I know Mark David Chapman got denied parole for the 6th time just recently, but what if he was accepted? What would his life be like outside of prison? The reason Mark killed John Lennon was that he wanted Lennon’s fame, everyone knows that. Do I think Mark would kill again if he did get out of prison for parole? In my opinion, I don’t think he would. I’m not defending the guy, don’t get me wrong. I think when he killed John Lennon that day, Mark thought he was going to take his fame and today, I’m sure Mark realized that didn’t solve anything.  Mark just wanted to kill, John Lennon. That’s it, nobody else. Read Mark David Chapman’s history for proof that his only mission was to kill John and he got it.

Reading Mark’s history, he had a lot of problems in his life. He had a huge obsession with Lennon ever since he was a child. His favorite band has always been, The Beatles, which would be the only band he would listen to through his whole life. I don’t think he would have killed Paul, Ringo or George…John was his only target. I don’t think he would kill Lennon’s surviving family members either, that would be Yoko Ono and their sons.

So do I think Mark deserves a second chance at life out of prison?

Yes and No.

For the yes, I can see him being on the outside, trying to change to become a better person, getting more professional help and all that. He probably wants to be with his wife, Gloria full time, also. For the no, he killed a rock n’ roll legend, a legend that meant a lot to so many music fans. I don’t think Mark was all that dangerous of a monster, he just killed Lennon in a fit of jealous rage, that was all. Maybe he does deserve freedom on the outside, maybe he doesn’t. I can understand Yoko and their sons being afraid of this man, but I think there is a possibility that Mark respects Yoko and her family.

Who knows, maybe Mark already became a better person while in prison ’cause over the years he has been in prison for good behavior reading his history which is why he kept getting awarded for parole possibility. Again, I’m not defending the guy, I hated what he did, but I don’t really see him a dangerous animal though. He was just a crazed Beatles fan that made a big mistake. I’m sure he learned from it by now.

CD Review: Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”

So I finally bought Katy Perry’s new album, “Teenage Dream” from Itunes. Yes, she’s a pop artist…but she’s one of the good ones. When I listened to this record, it really didn’t feel like a pop record to me. It is still kind of rock n’ roll in a way, giving it an 80’s feel of new wave music. Stuff that would you would hear at the boardwalk near the beach at the ocean. While the song, “California Gurls” is a mainstream hit, yes, there are better songs on the album, like the title track, “Teenage Dream” is a great song. The whole record is great. She’s got a unique way of writing current music. The songs on the album are actually pretty tight. Energetic. Her singing is not Celine Dion or Barbara Streisand, but with this album, she proves that she doesn’t have to sing like those artists. Katy Perry is addicting to listen to because she feels like old school music. I hate most mainstream pop music, but for some reason, I keep listening to Katy. She has a romantic feel to her songs that makes men want to listen to her stuff. Her songs makes you feel like you’re in a relationship with her when you listen to her songs. I don’t care what the haters say about Katy Perry ’cause she’s a talented artist. I’m liking her more than Lady Gaga in fact. Katy’s the better songwriter. I need to listen to some pop music for some fun music to workout to at the gym with my Ipod. Katy is indeed good workout music. For those who don’t like pop or Katy Perry, I’d suggest you give this album a listen. You might like it yourself. You don’t have to like pop  music to like Katy Perry. If you’re a rock or metal fan, she’ll make anybody get into her music. That’s how powerful this woman’s music is. I’m going to be listening to this one quite a lot.

Cool Video: Dublin does not like Guns N’ Roses, Axl walks off stage again after being heckled!!

Axl is no stranger to walking off stage in a middle of a song because something gets thrown at him. He’s been doing this for years. So this isn’t really news. Axl Rose can’t seem to get the hint that everyone hates Guns N’ Roses. They are has-beens and egomaniacs. No one cares for that band anymore. Even Dublin knows this is true. I wish Axl and Guns N’ Roses would call it quits. This is funny stuff here.

Report: Neil Young reveals details for his new album, “Le Noise”…

Neil Young just revealed details of his new upcoming album, “Le Noise”. The album will NOT be full band rock. It will just be Neil alone in the studio himself. No backing band. All Neil will be playing is just his acoustic guitar and electric guitar. That’s it. There are also no overdubs. Neil got the album title, “Le Noise” because it was recorded in Daniel Lanois home studio in Los Angeles. Get the hint with “Le Noise” borrowing it from Daniel’s last name, Lanois. The album will have 8 songs and there will be a DVD with it showing Neil performing those songs live in the studio.

Click here, for the album’s track listing. Can’t wait!

Report: Robert Plant gives up rockin’ for good!

Robert Plant, wants to let Led Zeppelin and metal fans to know that the legendary singer no longer wants to rock hard. Yep, he is completely done with fronting hard rock bands whether it would be for Led Zeppelin or another project.

Robert plans to do different genres of music.

He feels he is getting too old for rock n’ roll, his ears aren’t taking it and he claims he can no longer sing the genre anymore like he used to in the 70’s and 80’s. Which is understandable, after years of Robert singing Zeppelin songs and other side projects, singing to high pitch screams and singing at high notes, he just can’t do that anymore. Why do you think Led Zeppelin had to lower down a few keys at the O2 reunion show a few years back?

Robert fails to say what genre he plans to stick to for the rest of his life but will he stick to folk music, country, bluegrass? Probably. I can see him doing jazz or blues down the road too.

I can’t blame, Robert, and I respect his decision.

John Paul Jones is still rockin’ and playing in bands like with Them Crooked Vultures. Jimmy Page hinted a comeback to music a while back but haven’t heard anything yet on what Pagey is planning on doing next. I’m pretty sure Jimmy Page will never give up hard rock music. Whatever project Jimmy Page does next, I’ll always support and looking forward to seeing what Jimmy would do next. I hope Jimmy don’t make us wait any longer. We want Jimmy Page back in the music world soon!

Thought: A Metallica and Megadeth supergroup collaboration needs to happen soon!

Now that the Metallica and Megadeth feud is finally over with, does that mean there is a possible collaboration in the works sometime in the future? I think it might be a possibility that members of Metallica and Megadeth could collaborate on a studio album together in a supergroup, but giving it a different band name.  I can definitely see it happening. Maybe James, Kirk, and Lars can do a side project with Dave Mustaine, Chris Broderick and bassist Dave Ellefson with a new studio album with original songs. I can see this supergroup doing a tour together, playing a mix of Metallica and Megadeth hits along with their new originals.

Maybe Metallica and Megadeth will discuss a project together when both bands are done touring.Metallica and Megadeth looked great together on stage at Sonisphere, so I think a supergroup between them would work.

Hey, if it worked for supergroups like Chickenfoot and Them Crooked Vultures, why not Metallica/Megadeth form a supergroup for an album and tour? Again, it’ll probably happen but it definitely won’t happen right away.
