“Expendables 3” trailer with footage from film is finally here…is this really the last film???

The trailer for “EX3” with Stallone, Statham, Schwarzenegger and a bunch of other iconic action stars is finally here. This film adds a mix of a new team with older stars and younger stars. Older stars such as Snipes, Ford, Gibson, and Grammer. The younger stars are Rhonda Rousey and others. Even though they are promoting this as the final Expendables movie… I don’t think this is the last one for good. It definitely looks like it’s setting up for a re-boot of some sort. I’m sure Hollywood will continue these movies even though Sly wants to move on. Look like Sly only wanted this franchise to be a trilogy and not a long-series of sequels.

Sly can’t star in every Expendables sequel, ya know? The man is getting old.

I remember Sly said in the past that he is on the verge of retirement from acting and he says he still has some acting left in him before he hangs it up. That’s why he’s been coming out with movies like crazy. When he retires from acting, he said he won’t be done with Hollywood for good. He said he wants to focus on screenwriting for other movies (he wrote the “Homefront” movie that stars Jason Statham but Sly didn’t star in) and he said he wants to do more directing. He also said he wants to get one more Rambo film off the ground too so hopefully that happens.

Enjoy the trailer. I’m looking forward to this one.

Film Review: Grudge Match

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Robert Deniro, Kevin Hart, Jon Bernthal, Alan Arkin, Kim Basinger

Directed by: Peter Segal

Today, the day after Christmas, I’ve decided to go to the movies to go check out the latest Sly movie, “Grudge Match” and here is my review.

Plot/synopsis: Two aging former professional boxers Razor (Stallone) and The Kid (Deniro) go on living their lives 30 years after their final match together. The two of them still hate each other and they still feud together after all these years so the Kid finally challenges Razor a re-match. Razor kept refusing to fight because he is done and wants to move on; however, The Kid kept pressuring him to fight one final match with him. Since the Kid still hates Razor he was pretty desperate in settling things in the ring. Of course, Razor finally accepts The Kid’s challenge and comes out of retirement just to help himself get out of his financial troubles. Razor was broke and couldn’t afford to pay his rents for his home. As their fight approaches, their boxing promoter (Kevin Hart) tries to promote their fight — Razor and the Kid continues to not get along. The question is who will win this legendary fight?

Well, I was pretty surprised of this film! Finally, Rocky and Raging Bull team up together in a boxing movie which this was supposed to happen years ago! Even though this film has NOTHING to do with Rocky Balboa at all… you can betcha there will be a lot of similarities and there are tons of Rocky references all over the movie!

This film is not just a boxing drama. It’s actually a comedy. Stallone and Deniro were pretty funny on screen. I definitely did have a lot of laughs. Deniro’s character, The Kid, kept trash talking Razor and Razor never wanted anything to do with the guy which is hilarious stuff. Some of the lines that Deniro says just had me crackin’ up… he was entertaining as hell like always. Look like Stallone is trying to do comedy films more. “The Expendables” movies are action comedies and so was “Escape Plan” a little bit. I guess it’s a new thing for Sly these days that he wants to do comedy more and I think he does a good job at it. While Sly Stallone is mostly known as an action guy… I guess he wants to show that he can be funny and he WAS funny in this movie. What I love the most about this movie is that Stallone continues to show his love for boxing and the same with Deniro.

The writing and the script was also good. Casting was good. Even though Kim Basinger is aging, she’s still looking hot. Jon Bernthal (Shane from “The Walking Dead”) did a great job in his first major acting role. Iron Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield make surprising cameos — not saying what they do ’cause I don’t wanna reveal any spoilers. I don’t know much about Kevin Hart and even he was entertaining as well!

This was a well-made film. I liked it a lot. The film didn’t bore me at all.

Two thumbs up!

Sylvester Stallone makes surprising return to SNL for a cameo segment w/ John Goodman and Robert Deniro…

Last night on SNL, Sylvester Stallone makes a surprising return to SNL for a cameo segment with John Goodman and Robert Deniro to help promote the upcoming movie, “Grudge Match”. The last time Sly made an appearance on SNL was when he hosted the show back in 1997. Sly doesn’t do comedy too much but when he tries, he can be pretty good at it. This segment is pretty funny too. Enjoy.

Film Review: Escape Plan…

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Caviezel, Vincent D’Onofrio, Sam Neill, 50 Cent, Amy Ryan

Directed by: Mikael Hafstrom

Well, now that my area finally opened a new movie theater called, “Criterion Cinemas” (or Bowtie whichever), the Grand Opening was today. I decided to go to the movies to check out, “Escape Plan”. The new film starring Sly and Arnie! Here is my review:

Plot/synopsis: A structural-security authority named Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) is an expert on escaping from the highest security prisons. He can easily escape from any prison in the world. So to stop other prisoners from having the potential to escape, Ray must build and design an escape-proof prison himself. However, things go wrong — Ray is framed and incarcerated in his own prison that he designed himself. The prison he designed is a futuristic prison with glass walls and the guards are all dressed in black and masked. Ray needs to escape his own prison that he built and find who ever put him in there.

Sly is no stranger to starring in prison films. As a matter of fact, he starred in a prison film called, “Lock Up” (released in 1989). This is a whole different prison film. This new film, “Escape Plan”, has gotten mixed reviews but that’s typical with Sly Stallone movies. Pretty much all of his movies over the years have gotten mixed reviews from critics and movie fans.

What a lot of people are saying is that they are saying that the action in this movie is not as fun. I don’t know if they saw the same movie I saw but I thought the action was fine. There were some pretty entertaining fights, gun shooting and explosions; however, this movie concentrated on the story the most. It was way more than an action movie. When Arnold and Sly stars in a movie together, everybody would immediately think that the movie will be violent w/graphic scenes. The violence in this movie wasn’t graphic and disturbing but I think it wasn’t meant to be. I think the reason people are disappointed with this film is that they expected this film to be an epic action movie knowing that Sly and Arnold are in it together ’cause that’s what they were known for over the years. After I saw the film… I immediately thought that this movie is a mystery/suspense kind of film. It was more of a “whodunit” kind of thing. What this movie is basically about is “who” put Ray Breslin in his own prison that he built himself.

What I liked about this film also is that it had a bit of an 80’s throwback. It had an old school feeling to it. The visuals of the new prison Ray built were pretty impressive and interesting. Something different.

I was also surprised by the casting. I was surprised to see Vincent D’Onofrio as you all would know him from “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”… and Vincent did a real good job in this film. I thought Jim Caviezel made an awesome badguy as he played the prison’s warden. Jim played an excellent badguy that you really wanted to hate. Sam Neill killed it as well even though he had a smaller role, he played the prison’s doctor.

Most importantly, this movie was all about Sly and Arnold. Finally, YES, FINALLY, after all these years teaming up in a big movie together. I like these two being the main co-stars on the big screen. They have so much chemistry together and they work-well together so I really hope they do a lot more films playing the leading role like this. As usual, this film makes them look like tough guys. Arnold with his usual machine guns and funny one-liners… Arnie had a funny one-liner in this film that had me crackin’ up, I don’t want to spoil it. You’ll hear him say it toward the end of the film. Like usual while Arnie likes violence and action… he wants his characters to be funny and comedic like they always are. Sly and Arnold never starred in movies together in the past ’cause I guess they didn’t get along at first… Sly confirmed it himself on Letterman the other night. It’s about time, and this was long overdue!

I thought “Escape Plan” was a very fun and exciting movie. It was pretty good. I liked it!

I’ll give it a two thumbs up.

That new Arnold and Sly movie coming out this weekend…

Yes, I do have plans in seeing “Escape Plan” this weekend when that new movie theater open in downtown Saratoga Springs. I’m planning on seeing it this coming Friday. This is Arnold and Sly’s first big movie together. Well, Arnie was in the first two Expendables movies with Sly but they were just cameo roles for Arnie, though. Arnold is pretty much in the leading role in this one along with Sly. This movie tells a story about a man who builds his own prison which Sly plays and he gets trapped into his own prison that he built — he must escape it himself. The plot actually sounds kind of interesting!

As some of you know, I’m a huge fan of both Arnold and Sly… can’t wait to see them both together.

It’s been long overdue for them to star in movies together. Arnold and Sly may have been friends for years — their friendship go way back in the 80’s but the reason they haven’t starred in movies together in the past is because they were both worried about their egos getting in the way. Now, they feel it’s a good time to star in movies together and I agree. These guys are getting old and you can only live once so might as well go for it!

Can’t wait to see this flick!

I saw Sly’s last movie, “Bullet To The Head” for DVD rental and it wasn’t all that special so hopefully this film will be a lot better. Best of all, this film has Jim Caviezel in it and that guy is a great actor!

The two new movie theaters will open soon and it will be great to start going to the movies again as I miss it. Yes, going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do. I haven’t been to the movies since I’ve seen “Man of Steel”.

There are other good movies out that I want to see. I want to see: “Gravity”, “Captain Phillips”, “Machete Kills”, and the new “Carrie” film. I plan to see them all but one at a time. “Gravity” will be the next movie I’ll see after “Escape Plan”. I got some catching up to do!

Why Dolph Lundgren haven’t directed an Expendables movie yet but will he ever in the future? Dolph himself explains…

Two “Expendables” movies have already past and a third one is currently filming. Dolph Lundgren has had a long career of directing films himself but he has mostly directed low budget B-movies. So far, Dolph hasn’t directed an Expendables movie. So many fans have been wondering why Dolph haven’t directed an Expendables movie yet since Dolph has directed violent action movies himself and Dolph, the man himself, finally explains why in this Q&A video directly to a fan. Why Dolph haven’t directed an Expendables movie himself yet? I’m sure Sly and the film crew would welcome him to direct an EXP movie but Dolph says he isn’t ready yet. That’s the reason. He has directed low budget and high budget films before — he’s just not ready to direct a big blockbuster like “The Expendables”. Still though, he says, “we’ll see”, so that’s a definite maybe. So keep our fingers crossed for now on whether or not Dolph will be ready to direct EXP 4 or 5.

I totally agree that Dolph should direct an “Expendables” movie. I have seen some of Dolph’s directed action movies like “Command Performance”. He’s very good with violent action scenes… that’s why he would be good to direct an Expendables movie. Maybe not now but Dolph said maybe sometime in the future.

Dolph seems like a real nice man in real life.

Watch the video, here.

I love how he explains the difference between directing a low budget film and a high budget film. Dolph is the freakin’ man! Always admired the guy!

Cool Photo: Look like Mel Gibson is getting all muscled up for “Expendables 3″…

Aussie actor Mel Gibson shows off his buff arms while in Los Angeles

This photo was shot by TMZ, I believe. Mel Gibson spotted in public in the streets of Los Angeles. Here he is on his way to a gym. Look like Mel took advice from Sly that he should get buffed up for EXP3. Look like Mel has been working out for a long while now. It also looks he is committed to this role and he is taking it pretty seriously.

Looking good, Mr. Mel Gibson! Pretty impressive for a middle aged guy! Look like Mel wants to get into the action and have major fight scenes. Can’t wait to see Sly vs. Mel now!

On Expendables 3 casting: Where is Arnold, Jackie Chan and Nic Cage??? They’re not in it?

It looks like Arnold decided not to be in the next Expendables movie for whatever reason. I could have sworn that Jackie Chan was on board to have a role but looks like they couldn’t get him. Same with Nicolas Cage. Nic Cage has been confirmed for the next movie for a long while but don’t see his name in the official cast listing. Ah well, maybe those guys will be in EXP4. Maybe Arnold felt he couldn’t be in it since Bruce dropped out? As for why Jackie and Nic dropped out, I don’t know… maybe they’ll explain soon.

That’s the thing with Expendables casting when you want to have a movie full of iconic stars it’s going to be tough to see who’s available and who’s not. Sly even tries to get Steven Seagal and Kurt Russell in these movies but no luck.

I give so much kudos and respect for the original cast for sticking with these movies: Dolph, Jason, Randy, Terry, and Jet. Seems like those guys are committed to these films.

A lot of people like to make fun of the “Expendables” movies ’cause of old muscle dudes beating each other up but I enjoyed the first two films. Hell, the writing needs work and so does the direction but they get improvement in every film. I respect what these guys do for these movies ’cause they have heart and passion for it. They’re committed ’cause they want to entertain people and their fans, that’s pretty much what these movies are about. They want to entertain people who love action movies and that’s why they have all these iconic stars from action movies over the years.

I think, “The Expendables”, is a pretty interesting franchise. Love these movies or not, Sly is a hard working guy and he certainly has a “don’t quit” attitude about him, I respect him for that. Although, Sly can be a bit difficult, weird, and ego-driven with his cast… I still respect Sly for his dedication and commitment with these films.

You can tell that Sly is doing the, “Expendables”, movies just for fun. He definitely looks like he’s having a blast and he shows it.

Report: Mel Gibson is official for “Expendables 3” and his character revealed!!!

The official “Expendables” site announced the official casting for the next installment to the Expendables franchise.

Apparently, Mel Gibson is definitely on board. Look like Mel is gonna be the main villain for EXP3. The name of his character is Conrad Stonebanks, and he was one of the Expendables founding members who turned into a ruthless arms dealer.

The original cast: Dolph, Randy, Terry, Jason, and Jet will be coming back.

Additional cast will include Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, and Antonio Banderas. Look like Sly will be re-teaming with two of the cast members. Sly played in, “Demolition Man” with Wesley and Sly played in “Assassins” with Antonio Banderas.

As you can see, Sly always had Mel’s support. The photo above looks like an older pic of Mel and Sly together at some event. Even though Mel may seem like a weird and crazy guy, Sly tells Access Hollywood last year in this video that people shouldn’t be so quick to judge him.

I think Sly just wants to help his friend, Mel Gibson. He wants to try to inspire people to be more forgiven of Mel. After all the Mel Gibson controversy in the news the last several years, I think Mel deserves a second chance in Hollywood. He deserves to be forgiven. Whether you like Mel Gibson or not, he’s still a very talented man. Great director, writer, and actor. Mel is still doing violent action films to this day so I think he would be a perfect choice for the Expendables.

I gotta wonder how difficult Mel was when Sly tried to ask him for this film? I bet Mel was a real hard ass but Sly never gave up to get him in this movie. Sly wanted Mel in this movie pretty badly and he got him. Congrats Sly! Looking forward to it!

Bruce Willis wanted a bigger payday for “EXP3” but I’m still siding with him…

The reason Harrison Ford replaced Bruce Willis is ’cause Bruce wanted a bigger payday. Sly and the film crew offered him $3 million for four days; however, Bruce ended up wanting $4 million so that’s $1 million a day. That’s a high payment that Sly and the film crew couldn’t afford.

More on the story, here.

To be honest, I can totally respect Bruce’s decision. I don’t see how he’s “greedy” and “lazy” for wanting to be paid more, ya know? Bruce is the world’s most famous actor. Well-known for the “Die Hard” movies which is what he is most famous for. He also had many other major roles such as “Pulp Fiction”, “12 Monkeys”, “The Fifth Element”, “The Sixth Sense”, “Armageddon”, “Red”, etc. Bruce is more iconic and famous than Stallone/Arnold and all the other actors in the Expendables cast. So I think he deserves to get paid more ’cause of his legendary status. I think that’s a huge part of why he wants to get paid more. If other film makers can afford to get Bruce, then Sly and the crew could probably afford him. So I think Sly is the one being “greedy” and “lazy”. Sly’s a rich man. He can absolutely afford the $4 million payment Bruce asked for.

Don’t blame this all on Bruce. All actors have different views and feelings on how they want to get paid. Bruce is a big name so I can blame him.
