In a surprising move, Sylvester Stallone has announced to Empire magazine, that Sly has retired Rambo. The good news is, Sly is already working on a sequel to, “The Expendables”. The upcoming action flick that is about to hit theaters this summer in August.
It’s kind of too bad that there won’t be another Rambo, but it’s great that Sly wants the “Expendables” to be his next big franchise.
What’s the reason Sly wants the “Expendables” to have a sequel this early? Sly already started working on the sequel even before the first one came out. My bet is that he wants Sly, Arnold and Bruce Willis to star the leading roles in the sequel. Arnie and Bruce only had a small cameo in the first one, but maybe Sly wants them to be in throughout the next movie? Will “Expendables 2” be Arnold’s comeback to leading roles in Hollywood once his governor run is over? All we can do is hope and cross our fingers.
Maybe Sly will also try to get Jean Claude Van Damme and Kurt Russell for the sequel as well. I know those two turned the first movie down, but maybe they will agree with the sequel, who knows. Anything is possible.
Well, it’s finally here. Sly finally finished the “Expendables” trailer and released it to the web, exclusively at yahoo. The film looks very good. Very well made trailer. The song playing in the trailer is Godsmack. Sly hired Godsmack himself to write an exclusive song for the movie only. The film looks awesome and can’t wait for it.
I’m very happy for Dolph Lundgren that he’s finally back on the big screen in a huge way. This film will indeed get him out of his straight to DVD career.
Why do we have to wait for August to see this movie? I want to see it NOW!!!!
IGN just released the official one sheet teaser of “The Expendables” movie.
It looks cool, but the Expendables logo looks very much like Bret “The Hitman” Hart’s skull logo. Be careful there, Sly, Bret or WWE may not be too happy about that.
In WWE, he was well known as the “Toughest SOB”. Now that he broke Sylvester Stallone’s neck in real life, well, that makes Steve Austin a “tough SOB” in real life as well. Stallone is a tough dude as well. Do you think anybody can break Stallone’s neck? No. Austin was somehow lucky to do it to Sly.
I’m pretty sure Austin really doesn’t care if Sly broke his neck in a fight scene with Austin. Austin would think that’s what “Stone Cold” is all about in real life, not in wrestling. He would think breaking Stallone’s neck as an honor for him. So for those who would think Austin may be worried about Sly being hurt, don’t be. I’m 100% positive, Austin LOVED every minute of it. People used to think Stallone is a tough dude, but Austin turned the tables and made Stallone look like a wimp.
The fight scene in the Expendables movie was real between Austin and Stallone. Stallone was willing to get hurt for it to make it look real. From the sound of things, this fight scene sounds fuckin’ brutal and can’t wait to see it. Austin would think of this as a historic moment in his career, breaking a legend’s neck who is responsible for bringing us Rocky and Rambo. Austin doesn’t feel sorry for Sly.
Sylvester Stallone proves he really did get a broken neck by Stone Cold Steve Austin by posting his actual X-Ray photos over at Stallonezone. He also says Van Damme is full of crap and lying in that controversial video.
Check out Sly’s x-ray photos and read his letter over at Stallonezone:
In that video, I posted several blog posts down where Jean Claude Van Damme explains at a press conference on why he turned town the “Expendables” movie, Jean Claude has been getting a lot of hate on the internet about that video. A lot of fans accuse Jean Claude of acting like an asshole by making fun of Sly’s speaking voice and disrespecting him. Many fans accuse Jean Claude of trying to make Sylvester Stallone look like a greedy rich guy. In this video, Jean Claude explains the reason he turned it down is because, Jean Claude was asking Sly what’s his character and more information about the role he was playing. Sly replied back, “I’m going to make you a star and you’ll get rich”, in this video. So that upset Van Damme which forced him to turn the project down.
Who’s in the right? Is it Sylvester Stallone? Or is it Jean Claude Van Damme? I think Van Damme is doing the right thing here…and here is why.
When you’re a famous Hollywood actor, most actors take their careers so seriously. Actors want to make sure the role they’re playing that is right for them, plus they want to make their paychecks worthy. They don’t care if you’re Sylvester Stallone, Steven Spielberg or Clint Eastwood. Actors will turn the roles down if they don’t like the story and not giving enough information on the film.
Jean Claude has nothing negative against Sylvester Stallone. He made it clear at the end of the video, that Jean Claude respects him as an actor, writer and director. Also around this time Jean Claude was asked by Sly to star in the movie, I’m sure Sly hasn’t yet written a character for Van Damme for the script. Maybe Sly was going to write up a character for him after he agreed to do the film, but Sly didn’t give him enough information, so Van Damme said no.
Jean Claude may not have a successful career in his Hollywood life, he may have had a few huge blockbusters such as “Bloodsport”, “Universal Soldier” and maybe a few others…but Van Damme’s latest film, “JCVD” was a success in the indie film industry. “JCVD” did well overseas in box office and the film even did decent in the U.S. as well. I like Van Damme always had. Maybe Van Damme doesn’t have a lot of Blockbuster hits ’cause he doesn’t want to be a blockbuster star? I see him just doing it for the love of acting, not caring if the movie is a hit or a failure. Van Damme may have poked fun at Sly’s speaking voice in that video but hey, who cares. A lot of people make fun of Sly’s speaking voice ’cause it’s funny sounding. That’s one of the main reason’s why I like Sly ’cause his speaking voice is unique. Never heard anyone talk like that before.
My point is that Van Damme did nothing wrong. He has his right for an opinion and he has the right to do what he pleases. He maybe kind of an ass in that video, I agree, but so what. Van Damme is just being a profesional and an actor. Sly’s idea of this movie was to have a bunch of bad ass action stars all in the same film. I’m sure Sly tried asking many other action stars to be a part of this film like Kurt Russell, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, and many others, but I’m sure their reasons for turning the film down was much worse than Van Damme’s.
So this whole Van Damme thing isn’t such a big deal at all and I don’t see why action movie fans are so fed up. Even some die hard fans of Jean Claude are upset at him over the video. If Van Damme is happy doing straight to video movies and indie films, that’s where he wants to be. I thought “JCVD” was a great film and yes, it is a box office success. Look it up in boxofficemojo for yourself. I also respect Van Damme a whole lot ’cause he’s one of the most talented athlete’s than any action star in history. Van Damme has years of martial arts experience, a great bodybuilder who’s still in great shape and all that.
Van Damme is just being honest and keeping things real when it comes to films. I just think action fans took Van Damme’s comments out of context and it was blown out of proportion.
Jean Claude Van Damme was at some unknown press conference here, doing a Q&A thing with the press and of course, somebody had to ask him why he turned down Stallone’s movie, “The Expendables”. Simply the reason, because Sly wouldn’t give details on the character Van Damme was supposed to play. Van Damme asked many times what the character is and Sly just kept saying it’s going to be a great action movie that will make him lots of money.
I’m a huge fan of Sly and all but if what Van Damme said is true, Sly needs to be a profesional if he wants to be a director. It’s the directors job to explain to the cast what the characters are. Kudos to Van Damme for being real.
In the upcoming, new Stallone flick, “The Expendables”, set to release in August 2010… Sly admits to FHM magazine that he had a serious injury while filming a real fight scene with Stone Cold Steve Austin (former WWE superstar). Sly revealed that he was taken to the emergency room. He had major surgery and says he now has a metal plate in his neck.
He also revealed that Dolph Lundgren almost killed him when Sly ordered him to knock him out for a scene.
Geez, Sly. How much longer are you going to keep doing action films doing your own stunts? Sly is doing “Rambo V” next and I wonder if he’ll keep doing real fighting in the next Rambo movie? Probably.
After seeing Dolph on Conan O’ Brien last night, briefly, I thought of something. Dolph is obviously most well known for playing Ivan Drago in “Rocky IV” which is why he got on “The Tonight Show” to begin with ’cause he knew the audience would give him a huge crowd reaction. When Dolph showed up on stage, you saw in that video that the crowd loved Dolph.
What I don’t understand is, if everyone still loves Dolph, why does the man continue to have a direct-to-DVD career? When he tries to do a theaterical release movie like “Masters of the Universe”, “Universal Soldier” or “The Punisher”, he fails in the box office at those movies. Dolph hasn’t had a theaterical release movie in a long time.
This is about to change, Dolph fans.
Stallone got Dolph in, “The Expendables”, and that movie is theaterical release WORLDWIDE, not direct to DVD. I’m sure “The Expendables” will be a box office smash and that film will help Dolph become a mainstream star again like he was back in his Rocky IV days.
After “The Expendables”, I’m sure that film will help Dolph’s film directing career big time. He won’t be a straight to DVD king anymore after that film is released.
I kind of feel bad for Dolph that he hasn’t had a good film career, but I still give him the respect that he kept working over the years. Dolph is a talented guy and he deserves a successful career. This will happen for him, after “The Expendables”.
