Why wasn’t Stone Cold at RAW 1000 last night? I have the answer… (post UPDATED)

Everyone wanted Stone Cold Steve Austin 3:16 to deliver one of his hilarious speeches and give a bunch of stunners, but we got no Stone Cold last night. Turns out that Steve wasn’t in St. Louis at all. He was in California filming a movie, so he couldn’t go. I’m sure he wanted to be a part of RAW 1000, and I’m sure RAW wanted to use him somehow but scheduling conflicts gets in the way. Austin wasn’t available.

More on the story, here.

Kev

CORRECTION: That article I posted above is wrong why, Austin 3:16 wasn’t there at RAW 1,000. The real reason why Austin wasn’t there ’cause he just had knee surgery, had nothing to do with his film career at all. He has a bad knee and is on crutches, so there’s no way he could perform that night, but Austin did watch the show at home, he said. He also said he would have loved to been a part of it but couldn’t. Read Steve Austin’s blog, written by the man himself, here.

Brock thinks last night’s RAW 1000 was a blast from the past and brought back a lot of memories!!!!

WWE did a great job with “RAW 1000” last night. It was actually a pretty impressive show. Over the past few years, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, would occasionally return as D Generation X, with just the two of them, but this time we get a proper D-X reunion, by reuniting Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, and X-Pac along with them. Billy Gunn, Road Dogg and X-Pac are still looking good too and their looks still haven’t changed a bit. They played an entertaining segment against new wrestler, Damien Sandow, bringing back the 90’s era D-X style. The only noticeable missing member of D-X was Chyna, who was no where to be seen, which is understandable. Her and Vince McMahon have never got along in real life. They’ve been having a public feud that is well documented for the past several years now. So don’t expect Chyna back in the WWE anytime soon.

I liked the AJ and Daniel Bryan wedding. Weddings in WWE have been going on for RAW over the years, and that’s why a wedding was brought back. Usually weddings in WWE don’t end so great, but it was obvious this one wasn’t going to be good for Daniel Bryan. It turns out that AJ said, “I Do”, but it wasn’t for Daniel Bryan. It was for Vince McMahon. Vince came out to the ring and said it wasn’t that kind of proposal, more of a business proposal. Vince all of a sudden, announced that AJ is the new RAW General Mannager. Most current WWE Divas suck, I hate most of them, but AJ actually has some potential and she has personality who is not boring. AJ can be very likeable and she’s doing a good job in WWE so far. I think her being RAW GM would be interesting and looking forward to see what they’re going to do with her.

I liked the brief return of Mick Foley as Dude Love, which was pretty cool. I was hoping Mick Foley would return as all three faces of Foley. I was hoping he would come out as Cactus Jack and Mankind too, but he only did Dude Love last night. Dude Love came out to the ring during the Jack Swagger vs. Brodus Clay match.

The Triple H and Brock Lesnar/Paul Heyman segment was pretty cool, except, they didn’t need to bring Stephanie into this. I thought Stephanie making Paul Heyman look weak was pretty lame. Throughout that whole segment, they made it look like that Paul Heyman had too much power over Triple H, so Stephanie came out to the ring for Triple H’s defense. That’s when Brock Lesnar himself finally came out for Paul Heyman’s defense. I think it would be better if Lesnar came out to face Triple H instead of Paul Heyman, but what do you expect with WWE?

Next up we get the Heath Slater segment, in which he challenged any RAW legend to a “No Disqualification” match, and former WWE Diva, Lita came out to the ring. Lita is still looking pretty hot and still looks the same she did last time she was in WWE. She got a pretty big pop from the fans, of course. When Heath told them to ring the bell to get the match started, Lita announced she had some help to back her up, and the “APA” (or the Acolytes) music hits, and Bradshaw and Farooq came running to the ring to help Lita. Toward the end of the match, all the legends Heath fought on RAW came out to help: Psycho Sid, DDP, Roddy Piper, Rikishi, Vader, etc. It was good to see Bradshaw and Farooq back together again, just like the good old days.

What I was most excited and pumped for was the Brothers of Destruction reunion with Undertaker and Kane. Over the years on RAW, Undertaker and Kane have been performing on WWE TV but never together in the same ring. They kept the two apart for a long time until now. Undertaker and Kane finally reunited, but I’m sure this is a one off reunion, not a full time reunion. Of course, Undertaker and Kane got the stronger crowd response than any other superstar on RAW. It was a great segment.

For the main event on RAW, which was the WWE Championship match between CM Punk and John Cena, there was a bit of a shocker here too. Cena did not cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but instead Big Show interfered, just to stop Cena from winning the match. Cena won the match by Disqualification because of Big Show interfering. After the match, Big Show continued to beat Cena while CM Punk watches. The Rock music hits, the Rock comes to the ring to help Cena, but instead, we get CM Punk beating up the Rock. Punk ends the whole thing by giving the Rock his well known finisher, the GTS. The crowd boos CM Punk, as Punk ends up turning heel. Which is what I like better for Punk. I like CM Punk a heel wrestler and enjoy him being the badguy, so I’m glad he’s finally back to that. I was hoping we would get a Cena heel turn, but it ended up CM Punk turning heel. After internet reports been planning a huge wrestling angle, that was it, CM Punk turning heel. It’s going to be interesting to see where things go from here.

While there was a few minor things I didn’t care for last night, over all it was a great show. WWE did a good job. I was hoping for returns of Stone Cold, Ultimate Warrior, and Ric Flair but they never came out to the ring. Last night’s RAW was about RAW legends from the past performing with some of the new and young performers, which what last night was all about. WWE wanted to give the younger performers an opportunity to perform with the legends, which was fun to see. The Miz finally returned last night, but we didn’t get no Randy Orton. Randy Orton is on a suspension behind the scenes, but I expect a Randy Orton return soon. I was also hoping a Batista return but we didn’t get that either.

Congrats to WWE and Vince McMahon on 1000 episodes. They shouldn’t be thanking us for the support, we should be thanking them for giving us the entertainment!

I hope tonight’s RAW 1,000th episode is gonna be good, probably will be…

Well tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW officially marks 1,000 episodes. I’ve been watching WWE for years and have been watching Monday Night RAW pretty religiously ever since the beginning. No matter what you think of WWE, you can’t deny that they’ve been around longer than any other show in the history of TV. They’ve been around longer than, the Simpsons. Even though I don’t like the way today’s wrestling is going now, I still respect them for what they do. They work hard for staying alive this long. Other wrestling companies like WCW, ECW, etc. have came and gone. WWE is still here. They’re good at what they do, and I wish people would respect these guys more, ’cause these performers put a lot of sacrifice in their lives just to entertain us. They work harder more than anybody in the entertainment business.

I will watch “RAW 1,000” tonight ’cause it will be exciting. A lot of older guys are coming back. There will be a possible D-Generation X reunion with X-Pac, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, and possibly Chyna. A lot of other legends and icons from the past are making their one time returns too, so tonight should be an exciting show.

Wrestling news websites, are hinting that RAW 1,000 will plan a huge angle but nobody knows what it is yet. I’m hoping a Cena heel turn, but I doubt that.

RAW will be 3 hrs long from now on, every night and they’ll have a new logo and everything. A new era for WWE. Check out the new logo, here.

I’ll review RAW 1,000 tomorrow.

Everyone needs to respect Vince McMahon, love him or hate him. He worked hard to get where he is today. He’s no fake. He really did all the work. Vince loves wrestling just as much as we all do and he tries to make us happy, the best he can. Thanks Vince!

Heath Slater vs. the legendary wrestler segments on RAW is a good idea, but this is a bad time doing it…

The best thing going on RAW lately are the Heath Slater segments wrestling a match against a legendary wrestler from the past. Heath Slater is a young wrestler from the NXT wrestling show and he was a former member of the Nexus. Every week on RAW, he has been going against a different legendary wrestler from the past leading up to the 1000th episode of RAW. The whole point of this is to celebrate 1,000 episodes of RAW so they bring in a legendary wrestler from the past who used to be a RAW superstar. So far the legends Heath has been going against are: Vader, Sycho Sid, Cyndi Lauper, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Doink the Clown, Diamond Dallas Page, and Bob Backlund (which was the latest from last night).

This is a good idea that RAW is doing this. I like it a lot. Bringing the old guys back from the past for a one off appearance, however, this is bad timing doing it. Why? Because wrestling is no longer the same anymore, today. In today’s wrestling with it being the “PG” rating, there’s a new generation of young fans who are pretty new to wrestling. Most of the new fans don’t know who the older wrestlers are anymore. Yes, the older wrestlers that’s been performing with Heath Slater has been getting cheers from the crowd, but not much. Pretty sad to see too. I’m willing to bet the cheers are coming from the longtime wrestling fans who know a lot about wrestling. The legends don’t get much of a reaction from the younger crowd at all.

This is a good opportunity for Heath Slater though, I’m sure he’s thrilled to be performing with all these legends.

What legends from the past should go against Heath Slater in the future? Here’s my top ten list in no particular order:

  • The Ultimate Warrior
  • Scott Hall
  • Val Venis
  • Rikishi
  • Ken Shamrock
  • X-Pac
  • Chyna
  • Terry Funk
  • Jake the Snake Roberts

That’s it. Enjoy.

Will Vince McMahon fire John Laurinaitis storywise??? I think no, and here is my prediction…

I didn’t watch last night’s 3 hour RAW, but I caught the last half hour of it when I got back home from the movies. I DVR’d last night’s RAW, and will watch the rest of it tonight. The current storyline is John Laurinaitis, who is a longtime WWE employee, he serves as the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, in real life behind the scenes of the company. Well, he has now been performing on WWE TV for the past couple of months. He’s the General Manager for both RAW & Smackdown for WWE TV. His on TV character is described as a power hungry boss much like Vince McMahon, but a little different. The babyface fans and the superstars both want Laurinaitis to be off of WWE TV because people think he’s a boring character. He’s supposed to be a “heel”, which is what he is. John L., used to be a professional wrestler himself in his younger years, he used to go under the name of, “Johnny Ace“.

Cena has been trying to do whatever it takes to get Johnny L. off of WWE TV. This is all just a storyline, I know. I’m just explaining what’s going on. Vince McMahon returns to WWE TV last night, and there was a lot of speculation that McMahon was going to fire Johnny L. off of TV “storywise”. At the end of RAW last night, McMahon made the announcement that if Big Show loses the steel cage match against Cena at this Sunday’s, “No Way Out” PPV, he will fire Johnny L. then. So does that mean if Cena wins the match (which he probably will), Johnny L. keeps the job? Sounds like it.

My prediction on how this is going to go down, I don’t think Johnny L. will get fired. This will be McMahon’s attempt to get after John Cena. I think there’s another major Cena vs. McMahon feud on the way. I know Vince McMahon’s on TV character quite well. He has always been sick and twisted, mean, and evil. I don’t think he’ll fire Johnny L. to make the fans happy. Vince has never been that type of character. He’s always been unpredictable. I think Vince is about to do something big to get heel heat again.

I agree it will be cool to see McMahon get in someone’s face and growl, “You’re FIIIIRREEDDDDddd….” like he’s most famous for, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

On top of all this, I find Johnny L., a great performer. I think he’s one of the best heel General Manager’s in a long while. He’s great on the mic, just my opinion. As I said, I like the heels more (badguys) ’cause they’re more interesting than the good guys. I think part of this feud is building up for another Brock Lesnar return, he’s been off of WWE TV for the past couple of weeks. In real life, Brock’s deal with WWE isn’t that long, so he’s not going to be on WWE TV a lot. Just occasional appearances, like the Rock.

The problem will professional wrestling today, will there ever be good wrestling?

Even though I’m still a fan and still respect the professional wrestling industry, I just wish it can all get better. Not just with WWE, TNA needs to get better too. I like both companies. I still watch both as much as I can.

There are some good things and bad things about the WWE. The bad things, I actually don’t mind their “PG” rating, ’cause that’s how WWE started out in the 80’s. I just want their wrestling and promos to get better. The word, “promos”, another wrestling term where a wrestler gives a speech out in the ring. In the WWE, there are very few of today’s wrestlers that puts on very good promos, like CM Punk and Jericho. Those guys are still amazing on the mic, but everyone else in WWE? *yawn*

The guys in TNA seems to be much better at promos than WWE ’cause they are a TV-14 company. I think Bully Ray, who works for TNA, is one of the best wrestling heels I’ve seen in a long time. Bully Ray is what keeps me watching TNA I think. Bully Ray, used to be one of the Dudley Boyz (a former WWE tag team). Bully is a great character and he’s the best at doing promos in TNA, than anybody in their roster. The whole point of TNA is that they are competing against WWE. All of TNA’s ppvs and storylines are pretty much the same as WWE’s but it’s their own version.

The problem with today’s professional wrestling, is that it’s all too mainstream now. It’s not like what it used to be in the old days. The old days was “true” wrestling. The old days, they tried to treat it like an actual sport, but now it’s “sports entertainment”. Today’s wrestling is not special anymore. The old days would have some of the most amazing matches I’ve ever seen, more guys would cut great promos back then too! It really is sad how wrestling is today.

I still do enjoy watching WWE shows live in person though. I just enjoy seeing the performers enjoying themselves out there. Whether they’re badguy wrestlers, or good guys, I respect them all. It’s just a wrestling show! Yes, I have been criticized and been made fun of for my love of professional wrestling, but I’m a fan ’cause I respect what these guys do. They work hard to entertain fans and very good at it. I just want both companies to get better like everyone else. People complain about WWE and TNA ’cause we want to see good wrestling matches and we aren’t getting any of that. It’s all storylines and soap opera stuff these days.

John Layfield, former WWE star, planning to climb the Seven Summits for a good cause…

John Layfield is a former WWE Star, who used to wrestle under the name of Bradshaw, he was tag team partners with Farooq (the Accolytes, APA) and then he went as a single wrestler under the name of JBL, wearing a cowboy hat and a suit as you see above. John was forced to retire from wrestling due to a broken back. Now he is living over in, Bermuda. Doing work for a program with kids, coaching kids to play Rugby. More info, here.

John is planning to raise money for a good cause, by climbing the Seven Summits.

Yep, he is 45, and his back is not in good shape at all, and he’s serious on climbing to the top of the Seven Summits. Planning to climb all seven peaks? Yes, people in the past have climbed all 7 peaks successfully without death, but can John do it without giving up or killing himself?

This guy has balls. He is crazy to do this with his bad back, but I wish him the best of luck and I hope he can do it. He seems like a good guy, and he’s pretty inspiring. I’ll be keeping an eye out on his adventures in facebook ’cause I know he’s going to be posting plenty of videos and photos while climbing the mountain. I hope he survives the climb. He is known as a “wrestling god”, right? Well, I hope he’ll become a “climbing god”. Good luck, JBL!

See John’s announcement about it, here.

Brock defends wrestler, Chris Jericho……again….

WWE Star, Chris Jericho, is in the news again. Of course, every time this guy returns to the business and if he does something controversial, he becomes a big target in media news. Remember, a while back, I think a few years ago, that Jericho was in the news, for getting into a fight with a female fan after a house show? (He punched her in the face…) Well, here is something new this year. Jericho and CM Punk were performing a match at a House show in Brazil.

CM Punk was waving the Brazil flag for the fans, but Jericho took the flag away, and kicked it out of the ring. See the video here, at TMZ.

Brazilian police came close to arresting Jericho for it ’cause it’s against the law to desecrate flags in their country, but Jericho apologized for it and they let him go, but WWE suspended him for 30 days instead.

You guys, Jericho is a bad guy wrestler, a heel. That’s what heel wrestlers do, they’re supposed to do offensive things to get, “heat”. They’ll do whatever it takes to get the crowd booing ’cause that’s what a heel’s job is supposed to do. It’s all part of a wrestling show. I’m sure Jericho doesn’t hate Brazil, this is just part of his act.

On top of all this, heel wrestlers do this stuff all the time in the business over the years, but the way the industry is today, since wrestling is so mainstream, everyone wants to think of “wrestling” as real. Chris Jericho is a great performer. One of the best heel wrestlers around. If he can get himself in the news, get himself in the media being a bad guy “wrestler”, he’s doing all the right things. Whether it gets himself in trouble in real life or not. I mean, how many heel wrestlers out there do something offensive and they don’t make media news? Not too many. You have to do something drastic, in order to get everyone’s attention in a wider scale and Chris Jericho can do that.

That’s what make him a talented performer. Now, it wouldn’t surprise me if this gets turned into a wrestling angle next week on RAW. It’s hard to take things seriously in wrestling. Hard to tell whether these things are real or not. I still support Jericho. He really didn’t mean what he did. He was just being a performer, and that’s his job.

In defense of wrestlers getting into the movies…

These days, more and more wrestlers have been getting away from professional wrestling to act in movies more. With wrestlers such as, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Kurt Angle are becoming pretty big movie stars lately. I’m sure many movie fans are accusing them of not having acting talent and I’m sure they think these wrestlers don’t deserve to be in the movies, but in this post, I’ll take a little time to defend them.

People think that wrestlers don’t have acting experience, sorry to say, but these wrestlers have PLENTY Of acting experience. How? Well, professional wrestling is acting. Think of professional wrestling as theater. Both wrestling and acting in movies are pretty much the same thing. When you have years and years of professional wrestling experience, you don’t need to go to college for acting or any of that stuff. Wrestling taught them how to be an actor. They don’t need to be on the Broadway theater stage or do commercials on TV to get their start. They can get right into the movies, right away.

Wrestling helps them become a big name, so they get recognized in the movies easier. The bigger these guys become in the wrestling industry, they accomplished everything they needed to accomplish in wrestling, that there’s nothing left for them to do anymore. That’s why they move away from wrestling, and move on to movies. So they deserve to be in the movies for sure.

I think Dwayne, Steve Austin and Kurt are all doing a good job in movies so far. I’ve seen some of their work recently. I expect even more wrestlers to retire from the business to focus on movies more. I think Triple H could be next. There are rumors he might be retiring from WWE soon, not sure. Triple H has been doing a bunch of straight to video movies for WWE Films. Triple H didn’t do any major big screen movies yet, but I’m sure he’ll get into big screen movies soon when he gets done with wrestling officially.

13 Years Ago Today, the wrestling world lost the great Owen Hart…

13 years ago today, the wrestling world lost the great Owen Hart, due to a tragic accident. On this ppv in 1999, Owen fell off the rafters when he was the Blue Blazer character, when he was supposed to make an entrance in the ring using a harness and grapple line. The WWE didn’t film the accident, of course, they turned the cameras off right away. It had to suck for the WWE and the fans to go through this that night. It’s a tragedy that should never be forgotten. RIP Owen.
