Is image really all that important? I think no…

I’m amazed at the number of musicians who take image and looks seriously. There are too many unsigned & indie bands trying to look pretty as possible. I never thought image was that important in music. To me, I never cared. When I go to the stage to perform or take photos, I never cared what I looked like, or what I wore. There are too many bands out there, that will play dress up for the stage or photo shoots. They would even go as far as doing make up or try to make their hair cool. This goes for both men and women who play in bands or just acoustic acts. I understand that musicians need to look their genre that they play, but… image should not be all that important.

There are even famous bands & artists in national music today, that don’t even care about image like Neil Young. Perfect example right there. I mean, you never see Neil wearing nothing but all black leather or other crazy band fashion. All Neil mostly wore over the years in his career were ripped up blue jeans and he wore mostly old t-shirts or flannels. He didn’t care what he wore on the stage. He just wears what ever he wore in everyday life, when he goes on stage.

That’s where I come from. As long as you have the talent and the music is good, who the fuck cares about the image, ya know?

Personally, I believe, that the only reason people support your music is because the band looks good. It doesn’t matter to them if the music is good or bad. If the members are good looking people, that’s when fans will support their music. Point being, it’s the image that what makes people like their music, and in my opinion, the looks is cheating to get popularity or fame.

If you want to prove that you’re talented, you don’t need to worry about the image or trying to look pretty. We’re not celebrities so get over yourselves. Let the music speak on it’s own. If I go on stage sometime in the future, I’ll just wear what I have on now. That’s how I always played my gigs in the past. I didn’t care how I looked. Fashion, and image just takes away the music. Just my opinion.

Explaining my Marilyn Monroe obsession…

Some of you may wonder what is up with my obsession with Marilyn Monroe, the legendary actress. You would see me talking a lot about her in my blog and facebook. Well, here’s the deal. My interest in Marilyn grew, since the last time I visited Los Angeles, California. I may have went to a museum in Hollywood which may have grabbed my attention about her. Since then, I just had to learn more about her. I had to watch all of her films, which I did. I pretty much watched her entire filmography, and so far, I think her best films are “Some Like It Hot”, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and “The Seven Year Itch”. I even watched all the films, that she had small cameos in.

Her life and career, is just intriguing to me. I just had to learn more about her. Her history, which is inspiring stuff. I also found her quotes inspiring. I guess I’m just researching her…but for what? Possible song idea? Maybe yes, that is part of it. I will probably end up writing a song about her at some point.

The main reason why I had to get into her ’cause if you’re going to be a big movie buff, you’re not a true movie buff if you haven’t watched any Marilyn Monroe movies. All movie buffs need to know who this woman is. Love her or hate her, she has always been an important part of Hollywood. A lot of people want to mistakenly say things like, who cares, she’s dead, move on. True, but you must know your cinema history, if you’re going to be a movie buff.

Don’t worry, though, I plan on studying other important actresses from the past too like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich,  Ava Gardner, etc. If you want to be a true and real movie buff, you have to know the classics that most people today, don’t know about.

Really, I am the biggest movie buff, that you would probably see, and I’m sure you already can tell. If anybody tried to play movie trivia games with me, everyone else would probably lose and I will win all the time.

What am I watching on Netflix right now???

Since I’m all caught up watching, “Sons of Anarchy” on Netflix (which is an amazing show, by the way), I had to pick a different TV show to watch. So I just started re-watching, “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Just finished watching “Season 1” of Star Trek: TNG. I still remember each and every one of those episodes too! I used to watch Star Trek: TNG obsessively when I was a kid. Yes, I’m a Trekkie, as some of you know. I’ve been a die hard Trek fan, my entire life. Still am too.

I want to watch all the Star Trek shows on Netflix. That includes, “Deep Space Nine”, “Voyager”, and “Enterprise”.

I’ll never forget the day when I visited the “Star Trek: Exhibition” museum when I went to San Diego, California several years back. That was a pretty amazing time. I got to see the replica of an Enterprise bridge from the original series, and the transporter room. Cool stuff. I may have a photo or two somewhere.

Anyway, there are so many shows, I want to watch on Netflix. I want to watch, “Xena: Warrior Princess”, “Macguyver”, “X-Files”, and maybe a few others.

I still don’t get all the Netflix hate. I think it’s the coolest thing ever created. I will always support them. Netflix, is definitely 10x’s better than cable TV! They have excellent selections of streamable movies and TV shows. Netflix will be around for a very long time. I don’t think it will ever die.

Band drama and haters…

I had to remove that one post, ’cause after re-reading it a few times, I felt it was a bit silly, in my part. Admittedly. Although, my feelings toward that band that I was trying to call out haven’t changed. I just need to try and ignore them completely. That’s what you must do if you want a positive and happy life, ya know? Ignore all the immature bullshit completely ’cause that’s what those haters, trolls or whatever you want to call them do what they do ’cause they want to drive you crazy. They make fun of certain people ’cause they want to see you pissed off and they enjoy it when you call them out. They think it’s funny, period, end of story. The more you reply to them, the more they’ll torment you, ’cause they want to see you pissed off even more. The only way to eliminate these kind of people from your life is to act like they’re dead. Act like they don’t exist. Don’t care what anyone says about you and don’t reply to any of it. I try not to, though.

Chances are people are not going to stop picking on you. They’ll be obsessed with it for years. Even if they won’t stop when you do try to ignore them, continue to act like they don’t exist. Pretty much, they just want to get more attention off of you.

When bands & musicians get into this stuff, they’re either drunken alcoholics or on drugs, somewhat. What’s funny is that a lot of bands claim they don’t have time for this drama shit, either, but when they get into this online bullying stuff, what’s wrong with that picture?

I’ve been dealing with this stuff for years. If you’re getting too many haters, don’t let ’em bring ya down. Learn to stay above ’em.

Just keep being you, life is not about pleasing everyone. I don’t see why people feel the need to be negative, either, I hear ya’. Just don’t care about anybody and life would be great for ya. If you want to have a great music career, you have to ignore the haters, trolls, doubters or whatever, completely.

Howard Stern vs. Lena Dunham thoughts…

I love Howard Stern and all, but I think he really went over the line when he made fun of Lena Dunham’s weight. In my opinion, I think Lena is a gorgeous girl. Probably one of the most beautiful celebrity women out there. Lena is a natural beauty. I hope she keeps it that way. Lena is more real than all the other celebrity women who are mostly plastic surgery and full of breast implants. Not with Lena though. I’m pretty sure, Lena is all natural.

I respect the hell out of Lena. In fact, I’m a huge fan. I love her show, “Girls”. She has a lot of guts to show her naked body for the world to see. Yes, she maybe a little obsessed with nudity, but there is nothing wrong with it. These are the kind of women I like. The natural women. I would even date her, if I could.

She just wants to express herself, and Howard was wrong what he did. Glad he admitted it.

“Girls”, really is great. Check it out yourself, sometime.

Cool Video: NY State Assemblyman, Jim Tedisco, sticks up for the 2nd Amendment!!!

Jim Tedisco, who is our NY State Assemblyman, responds his thoughts about the Safe Act that was signed into law yesterday, and guess what? He doesn’t agree with it! Even he agrees that the law makes us less safer. He also brings up a good point, that having a few bullets to defend ourselves with isn’t enough. You can still buy guns legally, but allowing only 7 bullets is pretty ridiculous, and that’s what pissing us New Yorker’s off. He is also right that the Safe Act isn’t going to stop people from doing bad things.

I would own a gun legally to defend myself. If a guy tries to attack me when I’m out and about in public, I would do anything to save my own ass. Even if it means, killing the bastard. We should have our own right to defend ourselves, and not have the government tell us what to do.

Thanks Jim! If he ran for Governor or President, he would get my full support!

Report: New Dan Brown novel, “Inferno”, a new Robert Langdon story, will get May 14th, release…

I’m a big fan of Dan Brown. I loved, “The Da Vinci Code”, and “Angels & Demons”, even the movies were real good too! However, the third Robert Langdon story, “The Lost Symbol”, was really bad. I didn’t like that one at all. So hopefully this new one, “Inferno”, will be a good one. Hope, Dan will redeem himself. I loved the Robert Langdon stories, but he went downhill with, “The Lost Symbol”. I’m definitely going to buy, “Inferno”, when it comes out, so hope it will be worth the money. Please, don’t make me disappointed with the next one.

Welp, here we go, folks… the altering of the 2nd amemdment by our government has begun!

The people of NY state are upset with our State government today ’cause Governor Cuomo made gun control official today.

More on the story, here.

I’m totally with everyone on this. It’s bullshit. These new laws do make me feel less safe. Criminals will not follow these new laws, they’ll find their way around it. Gun violence is not going to stop, no matter what the government does. If you think this isn’t enough, wait until tomorrow, when Obama reveals  his plans on gun control.

We should have our own right to protect ourselves our own way. We don’t need the government controlling us, taking away our rights.

If we’re not allowed to have guns, what are we going to protect ourselves with? Altering the laws is not gonna solve anything.

Andrew Cuomo, had to jump right into it ’cause he wanted to get it done before Obama got to it. Nice way to get more attention.

Why do bands obsess with voting contests too damn much???

On a yearly basis, you would often see bands in facebook, trying to get fans to vote for them for various voting contests. You know, they would say stuff like, “Please help us vote for this______” (whatever contest they are trying to enter). This Grammy’s thing is the most popular. Bands would also enter other contests such as opening for national acts, landing a slot on big festivals, etc. I never understood why bands obsess with these things too much. Personally,  this is just my opinion now, they just want to make themselves look good. It’s their way of making their fans feel proud of them, so the bands can have something to jerk themselves off with. I believe they already know that these contests are fake (I hope they do know they are fake), the voting count is usually rigged. The company hosting the contest, already picks the winner even before the contest even started. So why bother with these things?

I understand bands want good opportunities and they want to move forward in their careers. This is not the way to go if you want to move forward and succeed. This is just my opinion, so no offense to anybody. If you want to make your fans feel good and proud of you, in my opinion, you don’t boost your ego, by forcing fans to vote for you for these stupid things. You make your fans proud of you just by making the music, and playing the gigs.

These voting contests makes bands look a little desperate and self centered. If I ever get myself a band, one of these days, I would not take part in any of these things.

Another thing that people fail to realize about these voting contests, is that the company hosting them, radio station or whatever, they usually do these things as a huge marketing ploy for their business. That’s all they care about. These people that hosts the contests don’t really care about the bands, it’s just their way of promoting themselves as a business.

Bands try to do these things just so they can make themselves look like an established act, when in reality, they are nothing. Bands promoting voting contests, also, seems kind of spammy, that’s another thing that bothers me.

Don’t worry about winning opportunities. You can earn the good opportunities and succeed just by making the music on your own. You can get opportunities to open for national acts, land on huge festivals, etc. without entering any contests. That stuff will come to you, if you’re not desperate. Just work hard, keep making the good music, and who knows what may happen. In my opinion, these contests are pointless and a waste of time.

Jodie Foster wasn’t worthy of the Cecil B. DeMille award anyways…

Yes, I did watch the Golden Globes last night. I was pretty happy with most of it. The awards went to the right people, I thought the winners gave great acceptance speeches but of course, despite Jodie Foster’s trainwreck of an acceptance speech when she won the Cecil B. Demille award, I didn’t think she deserved that award to begin with. Why? Because she was never that great of an actress and director to begin with. I only liked a few of her films in her career. For example, she was good in “Taxi Driver”, “Silence of The Lambs”, “Nell”, “The Beaver”, and “Panic Room” were good. She’s not worthy of that award. I thought it was pretty insane to give it to her.

There are plenty of other more deserving actors, actresses, and film directors who deserve to get it. Meryl Streep never got hers yet, hers is long overdue. There are plenty more to name.

Last night’s Globes was an okay show.

HBO’s “Girls” is a really great show, and I’ll admit, I’ve watched most of season 1. That show is what I’ll watch when “Game of Thrones” is over with on Sundays. Lena Dunham and “Girls” deserve all the praise. I want to get the first season of “Girls” on DVD soon. “Girls” is pretty addicting.

“Homeland” on Showtime is a great show too, even though I only watched that show a little bit, not back to back. I’ll follow the rest of that show soon.
