The Pyx 106 – Top Ten bands for Bon Jovi…

The Top Ten bands that had the most votes to open for Bon Jovi @ Spac has been revealed.

Check ’em out here:

http://www.pyx106.com/pages/contests/bonjovi/judging.html

Who do I predict that will win? The winner will probably be no one other than Lunic or Ten Year Vamp, hands down.

I find it amazing to me how these bands are that desperate to open for Bon Jovi. I say to myself, “Wow, these guys are really desperate, are they?” Do people really find that opening for Bon Jovi glorifying and all that special? Geez, who cares, in my opinion. He’s just a rock star.

The band that I would probably want to see win are the Velmas but I didn’t vote for them though. It’s probably gonna be Ten Year Vamp (although I’m no fan of them), might as well be.

Report: Gore Verbinski says “Bioshock” movie is still in the works!!!

So we haven’t heard much news of Gore Verbinski’s “Bioshock” project lately? Well we finally here something! Gore says, the planned “Bioshock” live action movie is still happening. Guess what folks? Gore vows to make this movie a “hard R” rating. He doesn’t want this movie to be Pg-13. He wants the film R rated so the film can be edgy just like the game. He also says, he will make the film stay true to the game for the die hard gamers that love to play it.

Read more on what Gore have to say here:
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/17662/-bioshock-movie-still-in-the-works

That’s very cool, the film is going to be R rated. There’s no nudity in the game, but there’s plenty of violence and blood. Plus the enemies you have to kill which are called Splicers are disgusting looking that won’t be for kids.

I’m a HUUUUUuuuugeeee fan of the Bioshock franchise. I think it’s the best first person shooter game ever made.

Speaking of “Bioshock”, I’m still playing “Bioshock 2” currently. I love these games ’cause they’re very hard and pretty challenging to play. I wonder if Gore plans on making the live action movie in 3-D as well? The City of Rapture is taken place underwater like Gore said, so there’ll be plenty of green screen and CGi when they make the film. One thing I worry, I hope they don’t make the Splicers enemies CGI, they should be human actors wearing makeup. Hopefully the Big Daddies won’t be CGI either.

Report: Colin Farrell rumoured to play Ozzy in Ozzy biopic???

Perez Hilton was the first to catch the news of Colin Farrell being casted as Ozzy for the upcoming Ozzy biopic that’s in the works. Keep in mind that this is fucking Perez Hilton we’re talking here. He could be full of shit. Starting rumours just to get attention to his site.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Colin speaks out on the rumour the next day, denying this.

More on it here:

I hope it’s not true ’cause I don’t like Colin as an actor.

Thought: Will Brock Lesnar ever make appearances in WWE, someday? Will Lesnar be guest host? Maybe part time GM?

The picture above is Brock back in his WWE days. The question you have to ask is, will Brock ever return to the company someday if something happens to his UFC career again? Will Brock return to perform in WWE storylines like as guest host or a part time RAW General Manager type of role? While that would be interesting, I don’t see Brock coming back to WWE ever again. There’s a couple of reasons he will stay away from WWE forever: 1) He doesn’t get along with Vince McMahon too well 2) Brock wouldn’t do it without Paul Heyman.

Brock could go to TNA maybe instead, but I don’t see Brock going back to wrestling entertainment anytime soon. Even if Brock’s UFC/MMA career happens to end in the future, I don’t see him going back to wrestling. He wants nothing to do with professional wrestling anymore, although he still appreciates and respects the business.

Cool Video: Brock’s fellow WWE stars speaks on his win at UFC 116, only one missing is Dwayne Johnson…

In this video, Brock’s fellow WWE superstars that he worked with in the past speaks on his win at last Saturday night’s ppv. As you can see in the video, the ppv is just getting over with and people are leaving. So I guess those WWE guys there decided to stick around longer, to chat with fans, give autographs & take pictures, give interviews with the media, etc. The superstars you see in the video are Stone Cold, Jim Ross, Paul Heyman, and Bill Goldberg.

Only one missing is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Rock was there at UFC 116, but he must of left the MGM Grand as soon as the ppv got over. Look like The Rock didn’t feel like dealing with the media and the fans. Oh well.

Enjoy this video.

Thought: How opening for Bon Jovi can be a career mistake for a rock n’ roll band…

I’ve had quite an interesting discussion about this in facebook with this certain radiostation contest where a local band gets to win an opportunity to open for Bon Jovi. It was getting good until it ended up being heated toward the end that I had to remove the discussion in facebook. It might be a bit controversial, yes, but what I say, I mean well. A bit of honesty doesn’t hurt now does it.

What we were talking about is how a rock n’ roll band opening for Bon Jovi could be a career mistake. I explained how and will explain in the blog here.

You see, Bon Jovi may have had something special in the 80’s, but today he’s too mainstream, washed up, an old nostalgia act. He was once a metal act, and now Bon Jovi has turned into a country rock artist. He’s a mainstream act that is too commercial. Bon Jovi used to be seen as a rock star back in the 80’s but we don’t see him like that anymore. He’s a pop star now. He is now part of pop culture.

Before a rock band jumps on an opportunity like this, they must be careful about these kind of decisions. These are questions you have to ask yourself. Do you want to be looked at as a “rock band” or a “pop star”? If you don’t want to be part of “pop culture” and “the mainstream”, then it’s best for your music that you stay away from opening concerts for mainstream acts. I’m not talking about just Bon Jovi. Even if you got the opportunity to open for acts like John Mayer, Dave Matthews or even Lady Gaga, your band will get known as a pop act. If that is not the direction where you want your music to head to, then it’s best for you to start opening for bands that are not too mainstream.

It might be good to play on the SPAC stage, yes, that’s what everyone wants is to play an arena type of venue. If you were asked to open for a famed national act, you must stop and think, is this artist right for my music? You can’t just jump on any random opportunity, got to do what is right for you and your music.

I think it is best that local rock bands should be opening for bands that are not as mainstream like I said above, or just open shows for indie bands. You could open for acts that are not as popular such as Ani Difranco, Mason Jennings, or open for indie bands such as The Eagles of Death Metal and more. Start off opening shows for national acts at Northern Lights like a lot of them do around here.

There’s a lot of great rock bands being part of this radio contest that don’t even belong on this thing, a lot of bands on the contest don’t fit Bon Jovi. Bands don’t think about these things because they are so obsessed with fame, ’cause they think it’s glorifying to open for the world’s biggest rock star. I don’t enter for things like this ’cause I want nothing to do with these silly contests. It’s not where I want to see my music head to. Not my thing. If bands want to do this, fine, bands do what they want to do. Let them obsess with fame and the major label industry.

I would like to open for a famed national act someday, sure, don’t get me wrong, it would be a great opportunity, but it won’t be Bon Jovi. I would much rather open for artists that I like and admire, not because they are big & famous. Bands and their crazy rock n’ roll fantasies, nothing new, lol. Becareful with the decisions you make in your career and you’ll regret it down the road. I’m not knocking the contest, only trying to give a reality check.

It’ll be interesting who wins this Bon Jovi contest though.

Cool Video: Brock Lesnar speaks on last night’s PPV…

Here is Brock Lesnar talking about last night’s PPV. Notice his face all beat up? He had quite a beating from Shane. Brock wasn’t arrogant and cocky in this press conference interview here at all. Brock was nice, professional, and even brought out some laughs. He talks about the WWE guys being there to support him, his friendship with Paul Heyman and of course, talks about his health, and all.

You just wonder what he would be like if Brock doesn’t have that belt. Do you think he would be happy then? He would probably go back to being an asshole if he didn’t have that belt and I meant that as a compliment, not an attack. I think Brock would retire if he ever lost the belt. After all, that’s how he retired from WWE ’cause he was WWE Champion three times and after he lost it the third time, Brock quit the  WWE immediately. He might do the same to UFC if someone ever took the belt from him.

Kev

Edit to add: Also, notice how Brock won’t admit how scared he was during that punch out by Shane? Instead, he talks himself around it by saying there are other rounds for him to win in.

Happy 4th of July

Today maybe about fireworks, cookouts, parades, parties, family get togethers, etc. you know the deal…but to me 4th of July isn’t about that stuff. It’s about celebrating America and being patriotic. I love America and very happy to be an American. I’m sure the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq will be over soon, it’s only a matter of time.

I think this is what my next batch of songs will be about. Political songs, and patriotic stuff. Songs about war. I’ve done songs about war in the past already, songs like “The Dark War” is one of them. I might of written a few more, don’t know. I want to write songs about something real, and yes, I’ve been writing again. I’ve been writing a bunch of song ideas down lately and writing lyrics again like a mofo. I might debut a song through youtube whenever I finish something.

I was late on the 4th of July post today, ’cause I was busy doing other things.

Today I found some time to download three more albums from Itunes though. I downloaded, Eminem’s “Recovery”, Danzig’s new album “Red Ded Sabaoth” and Tom Petty’s new album, “Mojo”. I listened to Danzig’s new album today, and it was his best record in a long time, very tight. Glen Danzig sings just like Jim Morrison, both of their voices have similarities but the music on the album is tight. It was worth the purchase. Haven’t listened to Eminem and Tom Petty yet, but will later this week. I’ll listen to them when I go to the gym this week. I always bring my Ipod to my workouts.

I took most of this week off of working out, it’s good to take little breaks from it once in a while. Don’t want to over do yourself.
