Report: Robin Williams to star in “Worlds Greatest Dad”…written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait…

Robin Williams just signed a deal to star in a dark comedy titled “Worlds Greatest Dad”, the film was written and will be directed by comedian/actor Bobcat Goldthwait. You probably remember Bobcat Goldthwait in the early “Police Academy” films.

The synopsis is about a single dad and high school teacher who finds his son dead after an autoerotic accident. In an effort to give his son dignity in death, he pens a suicide note that is accidentally leaked to the student paper.

It’s about time Robin’s found a decent role for a change. He’s been choosing horrible films as of late. His movie “RV” is probably the worse he’s ever done.

BREAKING NEWS: School of Rock sequel is greenlighted! Richard Linklater is set to direct and Jack Black will play Dewey Finn again!!!!!!!

Oh my! This news came to me as a huge surprise! While there were worries that a “School of Rock 2” sequel will never get made, Paramount just gave the film the greenlight to get made. Director Richard Linklater is confirmed to direct the sequel and Jack Black is confirmed to reprise his role as Dewey Finn.

Several weeks ago it was reported that screenwriter/actor Mike White sent in a final script for Paramount, the studio must of loved it. The title to the next sequel is “School of Rock 2: America Rocks”. The synopsis for “School of Rock 2: America Rocks” revolves around Dewey Finn and his musical students who own their own music school as left off from the first one, they go on a cross country field trip to learn more about the history of rock n’ roll and explore other genres such as blues, rap, and country.

Report: George W. Bush in a fist fight at a bar? Hmmmm…not really but close…

The “No Country For Old Men” and former “Goonies” star Josh Brolin was busted for getting into a bar room fight along with actor Jeffrey Wright and other film crew members. Brolin, Wright, and other film crew were in town to film the movie “W” a biopic film about our soon to be former president George W. Bush directed by Oliver Stone. The film is currently being shot in Shreveport, Louisianna where they were hanging out at a bar named “The Stray Cat Bar”. The actors and film crew were hanging out late at night after a hard day’s work of filming “W” until things got out of hand and a brawl broke out.

Brolin himself and others were arrested. Brolin was booked into holding cell and immediately posted bond to be released. Brolin is playing George W. Bush in the film “W”.

Report: David Fincher’s “Heavy Metal” shot down by Paramount…

Paramount studios  just ditched David Fincher’s “Heavy Metal” film adapted from the popular adult fantasy comic, a magazine where you can buy at newstands everywhere. Fincher was set to produce the film and to direct one of the stories. Paramount turned down the offer to get the film made because they felt the content was too risque for mainstream audiences, probably due to it’s controversial violence and sexual content.

More on it here:

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/07/david-fincher.html

That article called Fincher’s film a “remake”, it is not. The new “Heavy Metal” film will feature new stories so it will be different than the 1981 film. If you read earlier articles about Fincher’s “Heavy Metal”, they all said it wasn’t a remake.

It’s no surprise to me that Paramount wouldn’t do this. I don’t think any major movie studios would do this, Warner Bros. would probably turn it down too.

I would say either Lionsgate or Nu Image/Millenium would be the most likely studios that would be willing to do this film.

Report: Robert Downey Jr. signs on to star as “Sherlock Holmes” directed by Guy Ritchie…

Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. has signed on and confirmed a deal to star in Guy Ritchie’s version of the “Sherlock Holmes” movie. Robert will be playing the legendary fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes. The film will begin shooting in October and the script was written by Anthony Peckham.

There is another Sherlock Holmes movie in the works but the other one will be a slapstick comedy version which will star Sascha Baron Cohen as Sherlock Holmes and will star alongside Will Ferrell. So we get two Sherlock Holmes movies on the way. One serious one and the other is a comedy version.

Robert next stars in Ben Stiller’s comedy “Tropic Thunder” which he plays a black man filming a war movie, it also stars Jack Black.

I’m glad for Robert going for bigger roles. He’s always been a talented actor.

Film Review: Wanted

Starring: James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and Terence Stamp

Directed by: Timur Bekmambetov

Finally! I get a few days off from work. On my day off of work today, I decided to go to the mall to see a movie and do some shopping around. I decided to check out “Wanted”, the new action/adventure flick starring Angelina Jolie.

The story/plot revolves around a young man who is an office worker named Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy). Wesley lives a bored life with his boss at his job torturing him, he has a bad relationship with his girlfriend, and just lives a bored life. When he runs into a woman named Fox (played by Angelina) forced him to be recruited in this secret society named The Fraternity. Wesley learns that his father has these powers where he can aim his gun anywhere he wanted and do super quick fighting moves like the Matrix style. Wesley is being trained to learn those special powers so he can help find his father and learn Wesley’s true identity. The Fraternity leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman), helps Wesley in his training until Wesley learns that the Fraternity group is not to be trusted.

My thoughts on the film?

I thought it was a piece of garbage. Nothing but a typical popcorn action flick. It’s worse than “Die Hard 4” and I find it a total rip off from the “Matrix” movies. “Wanted” was too cartoonish and it wasn’t entertaining. I was pretty much bored through it. I don’t get why this movie is such a box office hit. James McAvoy was the thing about it, his acting is bad and he was so annoying throughout the entire film. I would give this film thumbs down all the way. This was the  worst movie of 2008 so far. Don’t worry, there are better movies coming out this month, this month of July we have “The Dark Knight” and “X Files 2” coming out and I’ll be seeing them both as well.

Score for “Wanted” = * (1 star as in poor)

Sorry Angelina, I’m glad you’re still doing action flicks, but pick a BETTER one next time!

On a side note, I did pick up “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” for the PS3 at Best Buy today, I plan on trying it out for a little bit tonight. It shall be fun. I also picked up Motley Crue’s new CD “Saints of Los Angeles”, I’ll give that album a review soon.
