Report: Mayor of Batman, Turkey sues Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan for “The Dark Knight”…

Did you know that there is a city named Batman in this world? Yes, it’s true. In the country of Turkey, there is a city there that is mostly an oil-producing city. The mayor is suing Christopher Nolan the director and Warner Bros. studios accusing them of using the Batman name without the city’s permission. The mayor is also blaming them for the high number of unsolved murders and female suicides in the city since the film’s huge success. The mayor will also try to prove that the city of Batman, Turkey predates the 1939 debut of Bob Kane’s superhero in DC comics.

Warner Bros. responded back saying they are only aware of this claim via the press, they have not yet seen any actual legal action by the mayor of Batman, Turkey.

This lawsuit won’t even go through. It’s also pretty lame and stupid. And on top of that, I don’t think it’s against the legal copyright laws to use the same town/city name as a fictional character.

Report: Roger Moore bashes the new Bond films with Daniel Craig…

A former James Bond star, Roger Moore, said he has seen the new Bond flick “Casino Royale” but he has not yet seen the new one “Quantum of Solace”. Moore says he isn’t impressed with them at all. He said he hated how the films has turned violent and graphic, he explains how that is NOT James Bond.

He says positive things about the new James Bond actor, that man is Daniel Craig. He says Daniel IS Bond. Moore just doesn’t want the new films to be so violent. The earlier James Bond flicks were violent sure but they weren’t as graphic as “Casino Royale” and “Quantum” was. The earlier Bond flicks were family friendly, the newer Bond flicks with Daniel Craig are aiming more toward the adult audience.

Roger Moore played James Bond pretty much throughout the 70’s and most of the 80’s, Moore starred in the 007 films such as “The Man With the Golden Gun”, “A View To Kill”, “The Spy Who Loved Me”, “Moonraker”, etc.

More on it here:

“Quantum of Solace” comes out this Friday night, don’t know if I’ll see it in theater or not. I’ll probably wait for DVD on this one, not sure. I’m more interested in seeing “Twilight” than this one though.

But as far as Roger Moore’s comments on the new films goes, I don’t agree with him. I’ve seen “Casino Royale” and the violence in that film is not as bad and graphic as he claims. Maybe he is just old and not used to today’s violent films just yet. In “Casino Royale” there is only one scene that is very graphic when James Bond is captured by badguys and he is getting violently tortured by them. That’s the only graphic scene out of the whole movie but other than that, the rest of the film isn’t that bad. The violence in the rest of “Casino Royale” is similar to the older flicks.

Report: Even our new President reads the “Twilight” series…

Yep, you heard that right. While President Obama is hard at work preparing for the economy and counting down to his White House inauguration in Jan, Obama finds time to spend with his family in between. He is currently reading the 4 “Twilight” books to his youngest daughter Malia. He seems to enjoy the books and probably will see the movie as well.

MTV Movies Blog reports:

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/11/10/president-elect-obama-reads-twilight-so-is-he-team-edward-or-team-jacob/

Movie comes out next Friday. I’ll be seeing it myself and looking forward to seeing the film.

The reason I love the Twilight books so much is I love how the vampire characters are the heros of these series, not the evil villains that most vampire films/books make ’em out to be. The “Twilight” vampire series is so different than most vampire stories out there. I would strongly reccomend you see the film and you would see what I mean.

Don’t worry about the age of the audience where the film/book is aimed mostly at, teens. Age is just a fucking number, you’re never too old to read any book or see any film. I’ve known adults older than me that were into fucking Pokemon and fucking Spongebob for christ sakes.

Report: Stallone’s “Expendables” to be a world wide release…

Nu Image/Millenium will bring Stallone’s “Expendables” overseas so the film can be shown world wide, not just the U.S.A.  The film has been sold to the U.K., California Filmes for Brazil and Latin America, Odeon for Greece, and to Dutch Filmworks for the Benelux region.

Expect the film to be sold to many more countries in the world.

Variety Reports:

This is no surprise to me that “Expendables” would be a world wide release. While Sly Stallone is extremely popular in the USA, Sly is even bigger in other countries overseas as well. I think Sly is the most popular in Japan.

I wonder what the name of Sly’s character will be in “Expendables”. When Sly is writing his own scripts for his own movies, one thing he is good at is coming up with creative names for characters.

One thing to keep in mind though, that “Expendables” is NOT his first film that he has written, directed, and starred the leading role in outside of Rocky and Rambo. His first film that he starred, written, and directed outside of Rocky and Rambo was “Paradise Alley”. “Paradise Alley” a film about profesional wrestling made in 1978 a few years after the first “Rocky” was made.

Sly has written scripts for many of the movies he has starred in but didn’t direct. For example, Sly wrote the films “Cliffhanger”, “Driven”, “Over the Top” and “Cobra”, he wrote and starred in those films but didn’t direct them.

I’m happy Sly wants to direct a lot more. He is very talented at that. I’d love to see this man win an Oscar for Best Director if he picks the right film that will be Oscar worthy but it definitely won’t be “Expendables”, but maybe when Sly will ever get that movie about Edgar Allan Poe off the ground, he’ll have a chance at an Oscar then.

Report: Joe Johnston to bring “Captain America” to the big screen…

The new live action movie to the Marvel superhero Captain America has finally recruited a director! Film maker Joe Johnston has inked a deal to helm “First Avenger: Captain America” with Marvel. Joe Johnston’s earlier film work he directed were films such as “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, “The Rocketeer”, “Jumanji” and he is currently filming “The Wolf Man” remake that stars Benicio Del Torro and Anthony Hopkins. Joe Johnston is more than just a film maker. This man does everything! He has done visual effects for the original Star Wars trilogy, and also done visual effects for “Raiders of the Lost Ark” as well.

There are no writers yet, but Marvel already has an idea for a plot for this new “Captain America” film. This film will take place during World War II and will be the beggining of “The Avengers”. Marvel scheduled to release this film May 6, 2011.

Great choice for a director! He’ll make a good Captain America film. Hope they pick the right actor for the hero too.

Report: Brett Ratner getting close to directing “Conan”…but will be rated R…

Director Brett Ratner is in final negotiations to direct the first “Conan” re-boot. Look like he will be on board to direct. It will be released and co-produced by Nu Image/Millenium and Lionsgate studios. While Brett Ratner is still on board to direct “Beverly Hills Cop 4”, he is likely to make both of these films but he will work on “Beverly Hills Cop 4” first. Ratner hopes to release “Conan” sometime in 2010.

The story of the first “Conan” reboot will start off how the original went, movie opens in a battlefield where Conan is born, will probably go from there. Of course, Thulsa Doom, the main villain will probably be written in the script.

While Ratner is mostly known for doing family friendly PG-13 flicks this will be a hard R rating.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i431ca797a370fbb241d3fdee33fd75e7

While I’m not crazy about the idea of Ratner directing, I’m glad it’s going to be rated R though. I simply can not see a family friendly Conan movie. It’s just not the way Conan is. The Conan comics had always been aimed toward the adult readers.

Hope Ratner doesn’t screw this one.

I’m sure Arnold would be proud that a reboot is happening without him, seriously. The Ah-nuld is probably thrilled the reboot is happening and I’m sure he wants this to happen. Although we all know that Arnold will not be playing Conan, maybe Arnold will help Ratner on how to make a good Conan flick.

Hope they pick a good actor for Conan too.

Report: Nicole Kidman set to play a tranny in “The Danish Girl”, Charlize Theron will also star…

Man oh man, Nicole Kidman just won’t stop signing on to those controversial roles!! Nicole Kidman has signed a deal to star as a transexual who will be married to Charlize Theron’s character in a film titled “The Danish Girl”, it’s based on the real life true story about the world’s first post-op transexual Einar Wegener. Charlize Theron is set to play the wife Greta Wegener.

Yes, you heard that right, Nicole Kidman will be playing a MAN. The story of Einar and Greta is taken place during the 1900’s. Anon Tucker will direct “The Danish Girl” and Nicole Kidman herself will produce as well.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i431ca797a370fbb2406f35fc24ba06b4

Expect this film to make huge media coverage all over the place as it’s already creating controversy right now.

Nicole Kidman has starred in other controversial roles, so this isn’t the first time…films like “Eyes Wide Shut”, “Birth”, “The Others”, “Moulin Rouge”, “The Hours”, “The Invasion”, “Bewitched” etc. Those are just some questionable roles she did I can think of at the top of my head.

“The Danish Girl” could get even more coverage than “Brokeback Mountain” did.

Report: Sylvester Stallone wants Forrest Whitaker for “Expendables”…

Sylvester Stallone has already signed Jason Statham and Jet Li for the new action movie “Expendables”, and now he is after the Oscar winning actor Forest Whitaker as a devious CIA agent who gets involved in their operation.

Stallone the man himself broke the news at the AFM.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i431ca797a370fbb2f282af0169640b9e

Look like Sly is going for some big name stars in this new film.

Wouldn’t it be cool if Kurt Russell landed a role in “Expendables”? A Russell and Stallone reunion probably will never happen, but it be cool to see them do a movie again.

Kev

EDIT TO ADD: Did I just read correctly that Sly is aiming for a PG-13 rating and he said he is NOT going for a blood fest? Awwwwwww man, that kinda sucks! I was hoping he would go for the bloodfest. I guess Sly wants a younger audience now. That’s cool though. Even though it will be PG-13, it still will be a fun action movie. Sly knows everything about action flicks, so he won’t dissapoint this film.
