Thought: Why no Batman/Superman news announced @ SDCC???

Well, SDCC has sadly came to a close. The exciting and fun convention is now over. Do you want to know what’s even more sad? Christopher Nolan or the Warner Brothers team never came to reveal big Superman/Batman news. 😦 Just like everyone else, I too was looking forward to some big announcements on Superman/Batman. It never happened. Keep in mind, that the SDCC from the past never did anything on “Batman: Begins” and “The Dark Knight” as well, so go figure. So why don’t Christopher Nolan ever bring his Batman or Superman work to Comic Con to celebrate with fans?

Does it have to do with ego? Does it have to do with money? Maybe a little bit of both, ha! There are better reasons why Warner Bros. will not bring Superman/Batman to SDCC.

One of the reasons, Batman and Superman are both iconic and legendary characters. All the stuff that you see at SDCC, the movies being celebrated there are not as huge as Batman and Superman are. The reason for Batman and Superman not being there is because, the two characters would overshadow all the other stuff being celebrated. Another reason for no Batman and Superman is because, it’s too expecting and too exciting. WB’s don’t want to reveal Batman/Superman stuff there ’cause it would get the whole convention all excited. The SDCC is the wrong place for it because it’s too early. Everyone wants to know about the new Batman and Superman flicks. If things were revealed this early, then it would ruin the excitement. They feel it’s better to leave things unpredictable.

I mean, think about it. When the Dark Knight came out, Heath Ledger was revealed to play the Joker shortly after the SDCC around that time. That news shocked the whole world. Imagine if they announced Heath Ledger playing the Joker at SDCC that yaar. Can you see how it would screw things up? Warner Bros. wants to reveal news on both films when ever everyone is not expecting it. That’s how you make a surprise. Announcing it at SDCC it would ruin that surprise ’cause everyone would be expecting it.

These are some reasons why Warner Bros. is forcing us to wait longer for Batman and Superman news. I’m sure they already picked a villain for both films already, they are keeping quiet about them until the time is right. They want it to be huge. It’s a marketing plan. It’s all about marketing. It wouldn’t be good business if Batman and Superman took over the SDCC conventions.

Just be patience everyone, a villain for both Batman and Superman will be revealed when ever everyone is not expecting it. I’m sure we will know more about both films later this summer, hopefully in August.

Report: Christopher Nolan confirms no Joker in Batman 3, plus other Batman/Superman news…

Christopher Nolan finally speaks on his projects with “Batman” and “Superman” to Empire magazine. Chris says the Joker will not be the next villain ’cause he feels it’s wrong for Heath Ledger to be replaced. While he didn’t reaveal any villains for “Batman 3” yet, he did say, however, that the Penguin and Mr. Freeze could possibly be the next two villains for the next flick. Chris also says he didn’t officially sign on to direct “Batman 3” yet, because his only focus is working on the new movie, “Inception” that stars Leonardo Dicaprio. Chris is only mentoring, “Batman 3” and “Superman”.

As for Superman, Nolan didn’t speak much about it, but he says, the next Superman movie will not be a DC styled superhero like film. Nolan confirms David Goyer is writing the new Superman script, and Nolan says he will not direct the Superman movie. Nolan says he will try to help Warner Brothers find a different director with the right fit. Again, Nolan refuses to say who the villains will be for the next “Superman” movie.

More on it here:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/17419/nolan-talks-superman-batman

I’m sure, Nolan and the writers already have villains planned out for both films, they don’t want to reveal them publicly until the time is right. Just like they did with Heath Ledger’s Joker for “The Dark Knight”.

If you think about it, using Penguin for the next Batman movie would be a good idea ’cause I didn’t like the Danny Devito Penguin in “Batman: Returns”. The Penguin role needs to be done right. How are they going to find a  short and fat actor for the Penguin? Not many actors like that these days. Danny Devito would be too old to play the Penguin so I don’t see him reprising the role. If anything, one actor I can think of on who can play the Penguin is no one other than Jack Black, he is pretty short guy and overweight so he might be the right guy. I’m sure Jack Black can do the Penguin voice very well.

As for the villain for “Superman”, my pick is still Brainiac. Although I must say Terence Stamp returning as an aging General Zod would be badass though…

BREAKING NEWS: Warner Bros. announces Superman & Batman will return to the big screen in 2012!! Plus a bunch other projects announced!

Here are some shocking movie news for ya. Today Warner Bros. announced Superman will fly his way to the big screen around Christmas time in 2012, as Batman will return in July of 2012. Also announced, “Sherlock Homes 2”, WB’s is getting close to greenlighting a “Flash” movie. “Aqua Man” and “Wonder Woman” is also coming to the big screen.

The year 2011 will release “The Green Lantern” in 3D, “The Hangover 2”, the next Harry Potter film, “Red Riding Hood” and more.

The Hollywood Reporter reports:

Lets hope Warner Bros. makes the next “Superman” flick a real good one this time. I’m sure they will, since they got Christopher Nolan helping out with the next Supes flick. Chris definitely won’t be able to direct, “Superman” now ’cause it will be hard for him to direct two movies at the same time. It will be interesting to see who the director will be for the “Superman” movie. I personally think, the director should be no one other than the great, Richard Donner, who did the first Superman movie. If they can get Donner to direct, that would be fantastic. He’s 80 years old, but I think he’s still directing, I believe.

What the new “Superman” movie needs to be successful…

How do you make a “Superman” movie successful? Simply put, it needs to be right. It needs to stay true to the Superman comics and give what the fans want.

In my belief, here is what fans want to see in the upcoming Superman flick that WB’s and Christopher Nolan is planning:

  • Keep the John Williams main opening title theme song – They need to keep this theme song. Without it the movie would bomb terribly. If they had a different score composer do a different theme song, it would create a huge backlash from fans. You know, the music where they show outer space and the text just fly at you through the stars. They need to keep that
  • Less Lois Lane and Clark Kent/Superman romance – Haven’t we’ve seen enough of this already?
  • Keep the Marlon Brando flashback, make it longer, and make it have more meaning and more powerful. The Marlon Brando sequence for “Superman: Returns” was special but it needs to be better. I think Christopher Nolan could help WB’s make that scene better.
  • Good acting with Lex Luthor – If they’re going to use Lex Luthor as a villain in the next one which they probably will, I’d suggest they find an actor with talent. It shouldn’t be Kevin Spacey again. They really need a special actor who can make this Lex Luthor role to be good enough for an Oscar potential. Maybe good enough to top Heath Ledger’s Joker at least.
  • Use a villain that hasn’t been used in any of the films before – Brainiac is a perfect choice. Hope they use him.
  • Make it action packed – The action in Bryan Singer’s “Superman: Returns” was pretty good but honestly there wasn’t a lot of action in that movie. It focused more on the story and the Lois Lane/Superman romance. Christopher Nolan will probably make this new movie action packed and violent just like his Batman flicks. The movie needs to be a fun action ride at the edge of your seat just like “The Dark Knight” was.
  • Superman needs to save people – Again there wasn’t a whole lot of this in “Superman:  Returns”. Superman needs to save more people in Metropolis.
  • The Superman/Clark Kent actor shouldn’t be a big name star, should be an unknown. Christopher Reeve was an unknown when he got signed for “Superman- The Movie”, they need to do the same for the next one.
  • Make the movie long – “The Dark Knight” was quite a long flick, pretty much a little over 2 and a half hours. “Superman Returns” was about that long too. The next movie should be long. If it’s going to be a short 90 minute film, that would dissapoint Superman fans.
  • Have great sounds and great special effects – I’m sure there would be both. I especially expect the next Supes flick to have great theater surround sound. Imagine loud crashing sounds and explosions that could sound like a rumble of thunder through your speakers. Aaaaaaahhhhh, I love that. For example, Superman fighting Brainiac in Metropolis, crashing into buildings and all that fun stuff. Just imagine that fight scene Brainiac vs. Superman. This is why I hope they use Brainiac ’cause that would be an awesome villain.

Enjoy.

Kev

Edit to add: I thought I would add a nice video from the “Superman” cartoon where Superman fights Brainiac. Imagine if there was a live action version of the Brainiac vs. Superman fight scene on the big screen. See how cool Brainiac would be as the next villain.

BREAKING NEWS: Warner Bros. fights back for Superman rights!!!

Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan are about ready to get a new “Supes” flick off the ground. So in order to save the franchise, Warner Bros. files suit against the lawyer who represents  the Jerome Siegel heirs, Marc Toberoff. A while back, the Siegel heirs sued Warner Bros. to get full copyrights of the “Superman” character. The Siegel heirs won half of the copyright by owning half of the Superman material while Warner Bros. still owns the other half. The Siegel estate ordered WB’s studios that if they don’t get the new Superman movie made by 2011, they will own full copyright of the Superman franchise.  Look like Warner Bros. still wants full copyright of the franchise, so the new Superman movie can be made the right way.

I can’t blame them. I wish WB’s luck and I’m sure they will win this battle. I would like to see a new Superman movie made with WB’s owning full copyrights. I’ll be keeping an eye on this news. I’m a die hard Superman fan more than I am with Batman. Love the Superman franchise so much!

Report: Sly Stallone auditioned for the “Superman” role?

Here is a shocker for you. In the late 1970’s when Warner Bros, was just getting “Superman: The Movie” off the ground and auditioning actors to play the Superman/Clark Kent role there are some suprising names that came up who auditioned for Superman. Ilys Salkind speaks at the Wizard World Comic Con in Anaheim, during his speech he speaks everything about Superman. He talked about the actors who auditioned for the original Superman. Surprising names that came up who auditioned for the role were Burt Reynolds, Robert Redford, and James Caan.

Who else was in that list? Yes, that’s right. Sylvester Stallone was considered for the role, but Warner Bros. turned him down and the Superman role obviously went to Christopher Reeve instead. Sly has talked about auditioning for Superman in his interviews before, so this is true.

Sly does seem to be a fan of comics and superhero’s as Sly was in a superhero comic book film once, and that is “Judge Dredd”. Will Sly ever play in another superhero movie ever again? Likely not. I don’t see Sly acting in other movies anytime soon. It looks like he wants to concentrate on acting in his own movies that he directs from now on.

If you think about it, Sly wouldn’t make a bad Superman at all. If you’ve seen Sly in the movie “Tango & Cash”, where’s he’s seen wearing a suit and glasses like Clark Kent, Sly reminded me of Clark Kent in that film.

Report: Warner Bros. hires Christopher Nolan to mentor new Superman movie!!!

Warner Bros. studios has finally decided to move forward with the new “Superman” movie. As reported in the past, WB’s studios is at war with the Jerome Siegel heirs trying to own full copyright of the Superman character. The Siegel’s was awarded half of the copyrighted material of the Superman works, which means that WB’s will not be allowed to use them for their next film. So this means that WB’s will have to be careful with the material they put in the next film. Which I assume that is why they hired Christopher Nolan to mentor them. They did not hire Chris as a director, just a mentor. WB’s was ordered to get the new Superman movie done and released before 2013, if they don’t, they will get full copyright of the Superman character. Keep in mind, this will NOT be another sequel to Bryan Singer’s, “Superman: Returns”.

With Christopher Nolan helping out, the next Superman movie will probably be a lot darker. I hope so. It should be action packed as well. Stay away from romance with Lois Lane and concentrate on a real Superman movie, the way he was supposed to be. Superman should not be Brandon Routh again. And please, keep the classic John Williams Superman theme. I don’t think the Siegels own the copyright to the Williams theme song. I would think the score belongs to John Williams and WB’s, so I’m sure they’ll still get to use the theme song to open up the movie with.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what they’ll do with the new Superman movie as it will indeed be much different than the earlier films.

Report: “No plans for Superman,” says DC Entertainment’s, Diane Nelson…

So, DC Comics and Warner Bros. team up to make “DC Entertainment”. Diane Nelson is the new president of the company. The first thing people want to know is, when will there be a new Superman movie? The answer is, not anytime soon. Diane said so herself at MTV News.

It looks like they are more focused on the new “Green Lantern” movie with Ryan Reynolds attached to star.

MTV News reports:

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/09/15/exclusive-we-dont-have-any-current-plans-for-superman-says-dc-entertainment-president/

Damn, they better plan something because 2011 will fly by fast. The Siegels ordered them to make a new Superman movie by 2011 if they want to do one. I’m sure DC Entertainment will plan a new Superman movie sometime in 2010.

Report: Superman feud between the Siegels and WB/DC Comics gets even uglier…

The Siegel family is still fighting for full rights of the Superman character. They already won the rights, they will get the full rights of the character in 2013…but…Warner Bros/DC Comics only own the rights to certain storylines and characters of the Superman story.

For example, The Siegels now own the rights of the planet Krypton, they own Superman’s parents, Jor-L and Lora, Superman as the infant Kal-L, and they even own the rights to Superman’s spaceship leaving Krypton to crash into Earth.

The judge found that WB/DC Comics own the rights to Superman’s ability to fly, kryptonite, the Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White characters, his vision powers and expanded origins.

It  is still set in stone that if Warner Bros./DC Comics wants to get another Superman movie made, they must get it done by 2011. If WB’s and DC decides to make another Superman movie, they won’t be able to use storylines and characters that the Siegels own so this means Superman may be forced to get a new costume design for the next movie, not the usual red, blue and yellow costume with the S signal on the chest.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118007269.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Even though Warner Bros. and DC are not allowed to use certain things that the Siegel’s own for the next Superman movie, don’t worry, this is Hollywood. They will do anything to change Superman around by creative writing.

I’m glad that WB/DC still own Lex Luthor, that means Lex Luthor coming back would be a possibility.

The Siegel’s fighting for full ownership of the Superman character is not in honour of the late Jerry Siegel, it’s all about the money and this article is making it clear it’s all about, cash.

I think the Siegel family are real pricks. Jerry Siegel would want his work being made into films and be celebrated by fans. The family is taking his honour away, in my opinion. Let Siegel’s work be celebrated by WB/DC.

I hope another Superman movie does happen and I hope the next one will be better.

BREAKING NEWS: Warner Bros. and DC Comics win legal battle over “Superman: Returns”…sequel is now definitely possible…

Warner Bros. and DC Comics has won the legal battle over licensing fees accused by the heirs of Jerome Seigel, “Superman’s” author and creator. It has something to do with money over the TV show “Smallville”. It was also discovered that Warner Bros. owns the rights to the Superman character which DC Comics transfered ownership to.

However, the Seigels vow to fight for full ownership of the Superman character, they aren’t backing down… and they warn they will get full ownership in 2013. Attorney Marc Toberoff said, if Warner Bros. doesn’t start production on the next Superman sequel by 2011, the Seigels will be able to sue to recover their damages.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118005806.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Warner Bros. will probably continue to defend themselves so they won’t get sued by the Seigels. You can’t take down the movie companies because they are powerful people in the movie industry. I agree that Jerome Siegel deserves full ownership of the Superman character since he created it, but the man is dead…he would want Hollywood to make movies on Superman. I think the Seigels are jealous that the Superman movies make more money than them and that’s what this is all about. Money, money, money.

If a “Superman: Returns” sequel gets greenlighted soon, lets hope Bryan Singer, and Brandon Routh will return.

I thought “Superman: Returns” was a great film. I hope Bryan will come back. Congrats to Warner Bros./DC for winning the battle, for now…
