RIP: J.D. Salinger 1919 – 2010

Famous author, J.D. Salinger has passed away. He was 91. He died of natural causes at his New Hampshire home. Most would know him from his legendary novel, “The Catcher In the Rye” which I probably read back in high school. This man lived a long life, doing what he loved. Writing. He also wrote, “Nine Stories” and “Franny and Zoey”. An author I’ve always respected like everyone.

Bioshock 2 hits stores next Tuesday!!!

Another game coming out next Tuesday, Feb. 9th is another must buy for me. I fuckin’ love the first “Bioshock” game. Can’t wait for the sequel. I will get this game next week for sure, however, I won’t start it right away ’cause I need to finish “Modern Warfare 2” and still need to play the first two “God of War” games. Getting psyched for “Bioshock 2” as the next game looks awesome as well.

My guitar and amp came today!!!

Well, my new electric guitar and amp came by UPS today. I was pretty happy to come home from work earlier this afternoon seeing two big UPS boxes sitting there waiting for me. You betcha, I opened ’em right up asap.

The guitar that I got was an Ibanez Artcore Hollow Body Electric and she looks beautiful. The amp that I got is a Fender Frontman 212R. I also got an Ibanez chromatic tuner pedal and the Boss Super Overdrive stomp box. Got an Ibanez guitar case which fits my new guitar perfectly. Haven’t plugged it in and played through the amp yet. Need to buy some guitar cables so I can hook up my guitar and all those pedals into it.

I was very surprised on how fast this order is. AMS is a great company. I just ordered these yesterday and here they are now. I also bought a few other accessories as well.

The main reason why I want to go electric is not just to form a band and hopefully to play live again, I want to expand my guitar horizons. Get better at it and improve. Especially improve my lead guitar soloing so I can do some improvised jams. I’ve read the reviews on the Fender amp and they say it’s a very loud amp, loud enough to play it in a band and to play live with. It has two speakers and a footswitch.

The acoustic thing became kind of boring to me, I want to do something different this time. Rock it up some more and play guitar for the reason I picked it up in the first place. I may enjoy a lot of hobbies and different activities, but guitar playing and music is my no. 1. I’ll post pics of my new guitar and amp soon.

Oscar nominations thoughts…very happy with this year’s selections!!!

Well the nominations are finally here folks:

http://oscar.go.com/nominations/nominees

I remember last year’s Oscar nominations was very dissapointing, simply because “The Dark Knight” got ignored for Best Picture

I’m very happy with this year’s selections though. Only thing I’m dissapointed in is that “Star Trek” didn’t get nominated for Best Picture, but I’m happy it got Best Sound and Best Makeup.

I’m glad to see my favorite movie of 2009, “District 9” nominated, I would think that is a shocker ’cause I didn’t think the Academy would go for that film. This year’s Best Picture selection is really great this year.

I’ve seen most of the movies nominated this year except for “The Blind Side”, “A Serious Man”, “An Education”, “Up” and “Precious”, I haven’t seen those yet but the rest I have seen. It is weird how Meryl Streep only got one nomination this year.

Everybody knows that James Cameron will get everything once again this year, but I really don’t want that to happen. My first choice for “Best Picture” winner would be the “Hurt Locker”. My second choice would be “Inglourious Basterds”, and then “District 9”, any of those three would make me happy. The Best Picture winner will probably be “Avatar” and I still don’t think that film deserves it.

Looking forward to seeing this year’s Oscars.

Electric guitar stuff coming soon…

So I officially placed my order for my electric guitar and amp that I choosed. I’ll reveal what they are when they are delivered to my home from UPS. I also ordered a guitar case, a tuner, guitar stand, extra packs of strings, stomp box effects pedal, etc. All that stuff should come later this week or next.

I’ve been wanting to do this for years. Go electric and finally doing it. When I get my electric, I’ll focus most of my time on that because I’m hoping of getting my own rock n’ roll band going in the future. When I get my new guitar and amp, I’ll post pictures or maybe even post a video blog of me messing around with it.

This blog has been kind of slowing down with posts and updates a bit ’cause I keep myself busy in the real world. Working my day job, working out, lifting weights and exercising my ass off. Playing video games and watching movies, stuff like that. I do other things besides hanging on the internet although certain people out there may not see that in me but I do keep myself busy.

I need to update this blog more this week ’cause I need to post obituaries for Jack Brisco of WWE fame, J.D. Salinger, and Jean Simmons this week. I’ll work on those hopefully tomorrow. Plus, the Oscar nominations will be revealed tomorrow and I know I’m going to have a lot to say about that too.

Just wanted to write something at random to get something off my chest.

Pink is just hanging around at the Grammy’s…

Check it out. Doesn’t that look very risky and dangerous? If she slipped off of that thing or if it breaks from the ceiling, she definitely would have killed herself. I was researching her past to see if she had experience in doing circus performances and dance theatre type of stuff, and finding out that she doesn’t, she was probably trained by experts to do that. She definitely isn’t scared of heights.

Although I’m not much of a fan of Pink’s music, she does have a hot body though and I’ll give her respect for that stunt. This stunt was done for real. It wasn’t a fake stunt woman or anything like that.

Cool Video: Pink’s performance at the Grammy’s – was it her singing or her circus performing?

The internet is buzzing about how Pink’s performance at last night’s Grammy Awards was the best live performance on a Grammy’s show ever. I took a look at it myself in youtube. I didn’t watch the Grammy’s last night (I was watching WWE’s “Royal Rumble” ppv instead).

My thoughts that I think Pink’s performance wasn’t anything special. Good voice yes, but do you honesetly think she was really singing? It’s gotta be very difficult to sing and hang upside down very high over an audience, spinning around and doing these dangerous stunts up there. How is it possible to do all that and sing at the same time? Her performance really didn’t grab me. She came out on stage wearing a white dress, as she walks over toward the audience, she takes the dress off and wearing this unique see through outfit that shows her half naked body. Then she’s way high up in the air, spinning around and hanging. I didn’t really care for it.

It’s certainly not the best Grammy’s performance, I have seen much better in the past. I personally think the audience wasn’t cheering for her singing, they gave her a standing ovation ’cause of all those high stunts she was doing up there.

On top of that, I think the Elton John and Lady Gaga performance was much better.

Report: Steven Tyler threatens to sue Aerosmith if replaced…

Aerosmith maybe auditioning for new singers with the decision made by Joe Perry but Steven Tyler is not letting them. Steven threatens Joe Perry if he is replaced, the band will get sued.

Billboard reports:

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/02/01/steven-tyler-threatens-lawsuit-if-aerosmith-recruits-new-singer/

I’m gonna have to side with Steven on this one. Steven is doing a good thing. No matter if Billy Idol or any other singer is a perfect fit for Aerosmith. Aerosmith belongs to Steven and Steven only. I think everyone knows that. Joe and Steven has known each other for at least 40 years or more, if Joe replaces Steven, then that’s a stab in the back right there.

What would it be like if Metallica replaced James Hetfield?

The only legendary bands that were ever sucessful at replacing lead singers were Ac/Dc (Bon Scott replaced by Brian Johnson), Van Halen (David Lee Roth replaced by Sammy Hagar), and Black Sabbath (Ozzy replaced by Ronnie James Dio).

Other than that, if Steven was replaced, it would anger a  lot of Aerosmith fans and the band would get a pretty nasty backlash. They would lose a lot of fans. Especially the longtime and die hard fans.

Steven Tyler has a huge ego yes, but even he knows that Aerosmith belongs to him. Joe Perry’s ego is much bigger than Steven’s. It’s good that Steve is fighting back, get ’em, man!

Report: Billy Idol to join Aerosmith? Another strange rumour…

What do you all think? Do you think this British spiked white haired badass named, Billy Idol, has what it takes to front Aerosmith? It was rumoured from Classic Rock Magazine that Joe Perry definitely wants him.

http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a200330/billy-idol-for-aerosmith-auditions.html

In my opinion, I think he might be the right guy. Idol has quite a range in his vocals and he could give the Aerosmith songs a different feel. His voice sounds different than Steven’s but Idol is an interesting choice. Idol has performed in cover bands in his past I’m sure and I think he could possibly nail Aerosmith hits perfectly.
