Brock’s Final Top 10 Movies of 2008!!!

Here is my final top 10 movies of 2008. I’ve already did the top 5 but considering that New  Year’s is just a few days away, I figure I would write down my final top 10. I will post without photos and with no explanation. These are my favorite movies of 2008.

I haven’t seen “Milk”, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Frost/Nixon”, “Gran Torino”, and “Marley and Me” yet, so don’t complain to me that I didn’t list them. 🙂

My top favorite films of 2008 here:

1. The Dark Knight

2. Rambo

3. Indiana Jones/The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

4. Changeling

5. Valkyrie

6. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

7. Wall-E

8. Tropic Thunder

9. The Incredible Hulk

10. Get Smart

Sorry, “Iron Man” fans. “Iron Man” is entertaining but kind of overrated, I find “The Incredible Hulk” to be the better Marvel movie of this year. 😉

Report: Judge wants Warner Bros. to settle “Watchmen” with Fox or make an appeal…

Judge Feess says that Warner Bros. should settle with Fox or make an appeal, if they still want to release the March 6th picture of the comic book superhero movie “Watchmen”.

The “Watchmen” trial is still on for Jan. 20th however, WB’s must be prepared for a settlement. The Warner Bros. version of the movie could possibly still be released, but it’s now all up to FOX if they want it released.

Variety Reports:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117997778.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

If FOX allows Warner Bros. to release it, the film would have to be released and distributed under the FOX name with the Warner Bros. name not being used in the opening credits, that’s how I could see it being done.

It would be sad if FOX bans Warner Bros. version, just so FOX can make their own version. I really hope FOX will have a heart by releasing it under their name but I seriously doubt that will happen. FOX would want to make their own version of “Watchmen”, but we’ll wait and see what happens.

If FOX does let Warner Bros. release it, then I’ll have a change of heart with FOX as well. The Warner Bros. version seems like a lot of work and a high budget movie, it be a waste of money and waste of time for them if their version don’t get released at all. Lets cross our fingers if FOX will let them release it. If not, then boycott Twentieth Century Fox.

Report: “Marley and Me” still tops box office weekend with 37 million…

The Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston movie, “Marley and Me” still tops the box office this Christmas weekend. “Marley and Me” made a whopping 37 million in total. Adam Sandler’s Disney flick “Bedtime Stories” quickly moved up to no. 2 with 28.1 million as expected. “Benjamin Button” sinks down to no. 3 with 27 million. “Valkyrie” moves up to no. 4 with 21. 5 million. “The Spirit” is still not getting any higher as it made only 6.5 million, poor Frank Miller.

The Associated Press reports:

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jb68x_tOGx8QHjI0Cr6C-Vy79OGgD95BSIHG0

This is good news for “Valkyrie” though, with that film only making 21.5 million, it’s still not bad and still considered a successful movie. If “Valkyrie” wasn’t released on Christmas with all them other movies, I’m sure “Valkyrie” would have made a lot more. Bryan Singer should have waited to release it in the Spring and it would gaurunteed be a smash hit. “Valkyrie” had so many push backs on the release date that I guess they had no choice but to release it on Christmas Day.

I’m going to have to start “Dead Space” all over again!!!

“Dead Space” is the most challenging and difficult game I’ve ever played. It’s probably the most hardest game to play of the year 2008. That’s the way video games should be, really hard, difficult and challenging.

There are 12 Chapters in the game, and so far, I’m all the way up to Chapter 3 in a mission called “Course Correction”. I’m trying to fight this mini boss, called the brute, which is a giant tentacle that comes up and grabs you, it pulls you down the hallway and you must kill it off to survive. With only 2 line racks of ammo left on the liner gun, it’s impossible to kill this thing so I must of missed something in this level to get more ammo, so I’m going to have to start this game over again today. I’ll just delete the saved game and start all over again.

I don’t mind though ’cause the game is fuckin’ awesome and it’s definitely the best game of the year.

BREAKING NEWS: Chyna, former WWE star, hospitalized…is she suicidal now?

Former WWE star, Chyna (real name: Joanie Laurer) was rushed to the hospital on Saturday yesterday, which is her birthday. She was celebrating her 36th birthday with her friends and they found her passed out with cuts on her arms. She was drinking so much alcohol last night that she was very drunk and hammered. She was also drinking with prescription medications.

Chyna performed in the WWE from 1997 through 2001, she played as Triple H’s bodygaurd and became a member of the D Generation X stable that also included Shawn Michaels, X-Pac, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg.  She also performed as a partner for Eddie Guerrero, she was Eddie’s lover as a storyline for a long while.

After leaving the WWE, she posed for Playboy twice and released a sex tape with wrestler X-Pac (Sean Waltman). She’s dated wrestlers Triple H and Sean Waltman in real life. After she left WWE, she had a long back and forth feud with Vince McMahon while wrestling in Japan for a long time. It is said that she had a tough and difficult life.

TMZ reports:

http://www.tmz.com/2008/12/28/chyna-taken-to-the-hospital/

Did she finally come to realize that she’s a wreck? She hasn’t been the same since Triple H dumped her for Stephanie McMahon in real life and she hasn’t been the same since Eddie Guerrero’s death and the Chris Benoit tragedy. I actually enjoyed her back in WWE and it’s sad to what she’s become today.

I would like to see Chyna make another WWE return, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon because Chyna and Vince hate each other in real life.

I wish Chyna the best of luck and hopes her life gets better. I hope she don’t end up like Anna Nicole and Heath Ledger. I’ll sit here and wait for the “Chyna is a man” and “She had this coming” comments from the haters.

Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg

See why it is appropriate that Tommy was picked for Stauffenberg. Tommy is identical to the actual Stauffenberg.

Check it out:

Left: The real Stauffenberg

Right: Tom Cruise

Another similar pic comparing the two:

Love Tommy or hate him, you can’t deny that he is perfect for Stauffenberg, I don’t think anybody else could pull off that role.

Now that I’ve seen the movie, it makes me want to shop for some history books and learning the entire history of that day on July 20th, 1944.

This wikipedia gives some info on that stuff:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claus_von_Stauffenberg#20_July_Plot

I’m sure the Non Fiction books from the library or bookstores will give us a lot more than what Singer gave us in the film.

Film Review: Valkyrie

Starring: Tom Cruise, Terence Stamp, Tom Wilkinson

Directed by: Bryan Singer

Just got back from the mall from seeing “Valkyrie” this evening, and here is my review.

Synopsis: This film is a World War II story, taking place during the Nazi’s, Adolf Hitler era that is based on real life events in the history books. Tom Cruise plays Colonel Stauffenberg which he plots with a group of other German officers to kill Adolf Hitler, as his way of trying to take over Nazi power in order to end the war.

Stauffenberg is seriously injured in a battle in Africa, which causes him to lose his eye and other body parts, he is forced to wear an eye patch. However, he still keeps his eye that he took out himself as his way of faking that he actually has two eyes whenever he’s associating with the Nazi’s. Stauffenberg helps conceive Operation Valkyrie, which is a plan approved by Adolf Hilter. Stauffenberg later joins the German Resistance, and becomes the Chief of Staff to further his plot to kill Hitler which is planned on July 20th, 1944.

Stauffenberg’s plan on trying to kill Hitler fails, after the Nazis discovered his plan on trying to kill their leader.

I would like to add this film to the top 5 films of 2008. It was an excellent film. I liked it all the way through. The story is thrilling, unpredictable, and the acting is very good all around. Yes, Tom Cruise actually did a great job in it as well. Is this movie worthy for Best Picture in the Oscars? Definitely. I would like to see Terence Stamp get a nomination for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” ’cause he did good in this.

The film has excellent action scenes as well. In the film, you would never know when it will come to a loud explosion. One time a group of Nazi soldiers are talking to each other and all of a sudden, BOOM!!!!! A huge explosion out of no where!!!

The movie was interesting, it was great pacing, the characters are good, and the actor who played Adolf Hitler did a very good job. What’s creepy about it though, that the actor who played Hitler almost looks exactly like the real Hitler.

In the theater I was in earlier tonight, I was surprised to see that it was a full theater, yep, a packed house. Don’t be surprised if “Valkyrie” moves up to no. 1 over the weekend on Sunday ’cause it could happen. I just love Bryan Singer’s work, he’s such an amazing director and one of my very favorite film makers. He’s made some really good movies like “The Usual Suspects”, “Apt Pupil”, “X-Men 1 and 2”, and “Superman: Returns”.

Why do so many people still go see Nazi and Hitler movies? I honestly think people has a fascination with Nazis and Hitler, that they like learning about them. Hitler is a controversial figure and people have a fascination with him whether people want to admit it or not. Nazis are being used for movies all the time, and even Indiana Jones used Nazis. People are fascinated with that stuff because it is interesting.

Please go see this even if you hate Tom Cruise. It’s an intense movie that’ll give you chills.

Score for “Valkyrie” = **** (4 stars as in excellent)

Report: Lessons be learned when going to the movies, don’t talk or you’ll get shot…

Do you go see a movie you’re anticpiated to see and then you get distracted by other people talking? I know I do. I get distracted by other people talking in the theater all the time and it does piss me off. When I can’t take it anymore, I’ll either yell out “Quiet down, I’m trying to hear this” or if people are talking in front of me, I’ll tap him/her on the shoulder and ask them to quiet it down.

But maybe a weapon is a good idea the next time, heh heh, just kidding.
