Thought: About Harold Camping, is he for real or just a delusional old man looking for some publicity???

The talk radio host and religious freak, Harold Camping, got the world to believe that the world will end today at 6:00 p.m. Well it’s May 21st and past 6:00 p.m., and we’re still standing. The internet has been all over this for the past couple of days. I know, that everyone knew this “end of the world” thing is faked, and just all talk. People in facebook were jokingly being open about what they were doing before the world ends. I did it too.

This is what I posted as a status in facebook last night:

“Just got done watching the movie “Matchete”, and it was actually a great action movie. Danny Trejo just rules. Maybe I’ll see y’all at the other side if the world does end tomorrow. If somehow we can build a spaceship and live out in space. We can survive that way. Have a good night.”

A lot of people got really into this. It was all funny and entertaining though. This Harold Camping fellow, sure got a lot of publicity off of this for sure. What was the message he was trying to do with this?

I’m pretty sure he knew that the world wasn’t going to end today. He wanted this day for everyone to be positive and to enjoy themselves. Which really worked. Facebook has been nothing but positive postings all day long. Harold wanted the world to be more closer to God and religion. This was his sneaky little plan to get people closer to religion.

If people don’t think an apocalypse will ever happen. Someday it will. Maybe not now. I mean, what do you think happened to dinosaurs years ago? Same thing can happen to us. Whether it will be a giant earthquake, a meteor strike, a heat apocalypse, etc. Any of that stuff can happen to Earth.

You gotta give this Harold Camping guy credit for getting the world to listen to him.

RIP: “Macho Man” Randy Savage 1952 – 2011

When I was a kid, I started watching professional wrestling because of none other than, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, a wrestler who is most well known for his famous catchphrase, “Oooooh yeeeaaahhh”.
That’s when I became addicted to old school WWF. I still watch wrestling today because of him. Randy Savage is, in my opinion, the true legend of wrestling. There is none other like him. He was also one of the best performers in professional wrestling who had the best microphone skills than any other wrestler in history. He put on some pretty amazing promos over the years.

Randy Savage worked for WWE from 1985 – 1994, having some of the most memorable feuds against Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Ultimate Warrior… being a few of his most well known opponents. Throughout the years of WWF, he had managers Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan and Classie Fredie Blassie by his side. Later in the years, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage teamed up together for a tag team called, The Mega Powers. Randy Savage retired from WWF in 1991 after beating “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan to become “King of the Ring”.

Later that year, Savage made a WWF comeback to feud with Jake the Snake Roberts. Around then, that’s when the relationship storyline with Miss Elizabeth began. This is where Ric Flair comes in to feud with Randy Savage, Ric tries to steal Miss Elizabeth from Randy Savage. This is Randy Savage’s most famous storyline. The Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage feud was a classic.

After the feud was over, Randy teamed up with the Ultimate Warrior to form a tag team called, the Ultimate Maniacs where they continued to feud with Ric Flair and Mr. Perfect. In 1993, Randy Savage became a color commentator instead of a wrestler, then he retired from WWF for good in 1994, to join Ted Turner’s wrestling company, WCW.

In WCW, Randy Savage would continue to feud with Flair until Savage joined Hulk Hogan’s, nWo group in 1997. Randy Savage retired from WCW in 1999. In 2004, Randy Savage made a return to wrestling for Jeff Jarrett’s “TNA”. Randy only stayed there for a year. He mostly feuded with Jeff Jarrett.

After, Savage’s brief TNA run, Savage retired from wrestling for good. He started to star in a string of “Slim Jim” commercials, which he is also most famous for. Last year at the San Diego Comic Con, Randy Savage appeared via satellite to promote the upcoming Mattel WWE action figures. That was the last we heard from Randy Savage in the wrestling business.

This is a very sad loss for the wrestling industry. The wrestling world lost a great one. I am pretty devastated. He has a been a favorite of mine for years. I was hoping for a Randy Savage WWE comeback but it’s never going to happen now. He was one of the greats. An inspiration. A hero to us all. He will be missed. RIP, the “Macho Man”, Ooooooohhhh yeah. Snap into it!

Report: Stephen King wants Lilo to play the new Carrie…

The new “Carrie” remake has found it’s writer. MGM has hired play writer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to pen the script for the new “Carrie” re-boot. Stephen King himself speaks to Entertainment Weekly about his opinion on the remake.

Stephen says he loves the original “Carrie” movie that was directed by Brian Depalma. He says if they could get Lindsay Lohan to star as the new Carrie White and get either David Lynch or David Cronenberg to direct it, he might like the remake.

Read his statement about the “Carrie” remake, here.

If you think Stephen loves all of his movies that were based on his books, then you are wrong. King is a very honest man. He isn’t afraid to say if one of his movies is really bad and he always hated Kubrick’s version of “The Shining” starring Jack Nicholson.

Another thing, the new “Carrie” remake needs to have a cameo appearance by Sissy Spacek herself. A “Carrie” remake could be good if made right. It needs a good script, good casting, and good directing.

Thought: About Arnold putting his film career on hold…

As soon as Arnold finished his governor run, he announced that he was returning to Hollywood full time. Starring in leading roles again. He announced, “The Governator” cartoon series & comic, he announced the horse movie, “Cry Macho”, and he announced that he will star as the Terminator again. Well, look like all that won’t be happening for a while.

It should be no surprise to everyone that Arnold getting his staffer pregnant could affect his upcoming movie comeback. I kind of saw it coming.

I’ve waited for over 7 years for Arnold to make his comeback to the movies, now we’ll have to wait even longer. Hopefully not too long.

I’m dying to see Arnold on the big screen again where he belongs. He’s my 2nd favorite action star behind Sly. Not only that he needs to get his personal life straightened out, he needs to wait a while until all this gossip settles down, then he’ll make his return to movies.

It really sucks though.

I usually don’t do celebrity gossip too much in this blog, I pay attention to Arnold’s story because of his movie career. This blog is about what’s going on in current news. I don’t care about gossip stories like divorce stories, pregnancies, marriages, etc. Leave that shit for TMZ and Perez Hilton, not on here.

Would I ever get a Nook or a Kindle for reading novels?

These new gadgets for reading books, the “Nook” and “Kindle” are getting very popular. Everyone seems to be getting them. Would I ever get one of those gadget things?

No.

Honestly, I have never been a gadget kind of guy. People are obsessed with those things but I don’t understand it. I do have a cell phone but I barely use it. I don’t think I’ll ever get an Iphone or an Ipad either.

On reading books on those gadget things, I’m an old school kind of guy. So I would prefer reading novels on either hardcover or paperback ’cause I don’t want to be staring at a screen for hours. Reading books on hardcover or paperback is better and more healthier than those electronic gadgets. Plus, I enjoy collecting books.

I’m not trying to piss anyone off, but this is how I feel about those gadget things that’s been very popular lately. I only got a cell phone just to use it when I go out of the house and in case of an emergency or something. I’m not that popular so I don’t have hundreds of phone numbers on a cell phone like so many people have.

I like having my privacy when I get out of the house. I don’t need to tell everyone where I’m going or what I’m doing 24/7.

How to act like a real professsional when you’re a gigging musician…

So I talk a lot about acting like a true professional in local music when you’re a gigging musician. How do you act like a 100% professional?

Here’s a step by step instruction, you bands out there may want to consider this:

  • Be polite & friendly to everyone – There are too many bands at shows that are rude and some musicians can’t be friendly to people at all. Being polite, courteous and positive to everyone is important. People may enjoy your music but they want to like you as a person as well, don’t forget that. Being friendly to fans, booking agents and club owners. Getting to know them and making friends with people in music is a good thing.
  • Show up early at your gigs – Believe me I’ve seen it all. I’ve seen lots of bands & solo acoustic acts show up real late at gigs. It happens all the time. If the club owner books you to show at 7:00 p.m. for soundcheck for example, show up an hour early. Why is it important to show up early? It impresses the club owner who booked you and he/she would want to book you again.
  • If you need to cancel or pull out of gigs on the last minute, let everyone know before doing it – I’ve had plenty of musicians who never showed up at my gigs without not letting everyone know beforehand. This happens all the time. If you need to cancel out of your performance for your own reasons, let your fans and the person who booked you know about it.
  • If you didn’t get a big crowd at your show, deal with it – I’ve had many bands & solo acts complain and whine about the dead crowd. If you get a dead crowd at your show where no one showed up at all in the audience, perform the gig and play it like it’s a great show anyway. A good attitude is a must have.
  • If you didn’t get paid, deal with it – I’ve had many musicians complain to me about not getting paid enough out of the admission money from the door. If you don’t get money, it’s not the end of the world. You’ll make money at other gigs. Music shouldn’t be about the money anyway. It’s all about the love of playing.
  • Don’t be critical of other bands on the show – If the band on your gig sucks,  then keep the opinion for yourselves. Live music is supposed to be fun and a positive experience. I’ve had too many musicians tell me that this performer sucks get them off the stage. It’s rude and I don’t care to hear other peoples opinions.
  • Do everything the club owner/booking person tells you to do (even if you don’t like it) – The booking person who booked you to play the show is like your boss at a day job. You must follow orders. If you’re playing too loud, turn it down. If your set is too long, cut it in half. I’ve heard too many. If the club owner prefers your band to use their equipment and not your own, do it.
  • Leave your egos out the door – This is a major turn off for me. Believe me, I met plenty of ego-maniacal musicians at the gigs. You’re no bigger than other musicians on the gig, you’re just the same as us.
  • Promote yourself – Promote yourself on the internet whether in blogs, facebook, myspace, reverbnation, etc. Promote yourself in your hometown by posting flyers at stores/restaurants/diners, not everyone uses the internet.
  • Take your music career seriously – If you want your music heard by as many people as possible, and want to become a successful band or musician, concentrate on your music only and nothing else outside of that.
  • Ignore your critics & your haters – You’re not going to please everyone with your music. You’re going to get your share of nasty critics and haters writing a bunch of crap about you online. Ignore it all and don’t respond to any of it. You only care about your music and not giving a shit what other people have to say about you. You should be thankful and glad that you have haters because it lets you know that people are paying attention to you, good or bad. There are certain musicians around here who would reply to almost every negative thing written about them. Don’t be defensive of yourself ’cause you’ll never win.
  • Just enjoy & have fun – If you don’t have the passion for music, then why bother doing it? I’ve seen plenty of musicians who don’t have the true passion for music. I’ve seen some who are just in it for the money, not for the love of music. Don’t treat music as a job, think of it as another life.

That’s about all I can think of. If there’s more, I’ll edit them in. Enjoy this list.

Thinking about something…

I don’t mean to sound egotistical. People will probably accuse me of being delusional. I’m going to be a bit honest here. Maybe some of you will even agree with it. It seems that a lot of people in the Capital District are pretty obsessed with talking about me. Whether it’s negative or positive. People talk about me in the scene at live gigs. People talk about me online, whether in facebook,  twitter or youtube. It seems that my name is everywhere. People are always coming to my blogs and wanting more from me. Even if people don’t like me, they continue to read anyway.

I honestly think that some people are afraid to admit that they respect me as a person and being a good songwriter. Some people claim they don’t like me, but deep down inside they have at least 1 positive thing to think about me. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be listening to my tunes online.

I’m proud of the tunes I do. I’m not saying that I’m better or bigger than everyone but I think you know that I’m good at what I do musically.

5 Rock Musicians that need to write their own memoirs…

With all these rock musicians like Ozzy, Sammy Hagar, Nikki Sixx, Brian Johnson of Ac/Dc, Tommy James of the Shondells, Dave Mustaine, Eric Clapton, Billy Corgan, and Pete Townshend doing their own memoirs, what are some other musicians that need to do their own memoir? Musicians who haven’t written a book yet. Billy Idol already has one coming out soon, so no need to list him. Billy Joel was going to do one but he canceled the project, so no need to list him either.

I can think of 5 at the top of my head…

  • Jimmy Page – He just released a giant photo book which will cost $300 or more, but I want a more appropriate Jimmy Page book. I would like him to write one where he talks about his history and how he started Zeppelin, all that stuff. I think he’ll make an interesting book. There is a Led Zeppelin biography titled, “Hammer of the Gods” but it wasn’t written by the band. I want one written by Jimmy Page himself. He needs to do one.
  • James Hetfield – It would be great if the Metallica frontman did an autobiography. I think he could do one someday whenever Metallica takes another break from music. Imagine the stories he would tell with this book if he did one.
  • Neil Young – I really want Neil to do one. He would tell some interesting stories in his life and music career. He has been releasing books through his “Greendale” stuff lately so maybe he will do one someday.
  • Eddie Vedder – Eddie can do some very interesting interviews on TV and interviews for magazines. I think he can tell some good stories with his life, Pearl Jam and other musical projects. If Eddie ever did one, he would talk a lot of politics for sure.
  • Dave Grohl – I really would like Dave to do one so he can go into more insight about Nirvana’s career and talk more about Kurt. I’m sure he would talk a lot about the Foo Fighters, of course, but I want to hear his stories about Nirvana. Lets hope he’ll do one someday.

That’s it. Enjoy the list.

The reason this blog has been kind of slowing down…

Have you noticed that I’ve only been putting up like a few posts on this blog a day? It’s because I’ve been busy preparing and rehearsing for my upcoming show at the Alcove Marina June 4th in a few weeks. Plus, I take some time in to do my work outs at the Greenwich Y. In the evenings, I spend some time trying to catch up with “Lost” and “Dexter”, two TV shows I’ve been trying to catch up on. I’ve been keeping myself busy.

Yes, I’ve been pretty hooked to the JJ Abrams shows, “Lost”, halfway through the 1st season. I know, I know, I’m really LATE on watching “Lost” but so far I’m loving that show too. The show is addicting so I can see why that show was very popular. The characters and the stories in “Lost” are interesting. When I finish Season 1, I’ll give it a full detailed review.

Tomorrow, I plan to go to the mall to check out the new vampire flick, “Priest” and to pick up that new “L.A. Noire” game for the PS3.

Why do I review everything? It’s because after I see a movie, hear an album, read a book or play a video game, I feel that I need to make my opinion on it publicly. Which is the whole point of this entertainment blog site. I’m like, my own critic. I don’t like keeping opinions to myself and feel like someone else needs to hear it. This is why I’m very critical on everything. Some people are afraid to be open about these kinds of things and this is my way of showing others that you don’t need to keep things to yourselves.
