RIP: Don Kirshner 1934 -2011

Don Kirshner, known as the Man with the Golden ear, died today due to heart failure. He is a legendary producer, song publisher and rock music mogul. He was the one who created the fictional rock band, The Monkees, which was made into a hit sitcom show for TV.  Kirshner also had his own TV series for ABC called, “Don Kirshner Rock Concert”,  in the early 70’s. The show aired every other week and had different musical acts perform on the show. Don Kirshner was 76 years old.

BREAKING NEWS: WWE annnounces expansion to “Royal Rumble” match to a 40 man Rumble!!!

The first Royal Rumble event took place on January 24, 1988. Hacksaw Jim Duggan was the first Royal Rumble winner. To those that are new to wrestling, the Royal Rumble match up usually have 30 guys in the ring and an opponent must be eliminated by being thrown over the top rope with both feet hitting the floor on the outside. A new superstar will come out to the ring every once in a while after 10 second count. The only way to win is one wrestler must be left in the ring, no one else.

Well today, WWE announced the huge news that the Royal Rumble this year will be a 40 man, match up, instead of the usual 30.

Read the article, here.

I know everyone is thinking that the reason for this is, they could be saving this for a bunch of legends and superstar returns to be part of this match but sorry I disagree. The reason I think they did this is ’cause it has something to do with the Nexus, which CM Punk is the new leader. Could the New Nexus find a bunch of new members so they can be dominate at the Rumble?

I am predicting that the last four guys at the Rumble will end up being John Cena, a returning Triple H, Nexus members, and CM Punk. I think Triple H will be the winner of the Rumble this year so he can headline Wrestlemania again. I didn’t name Sheamus ’cause Triple H will take out Sheamus before the end.

I don’t watch WWE ppvs much anymore, I only watch Royal Rumble and Wrestleamania every year, so yeah, of course, I will watch this year’s Rumble at the end of the month.

Thought: Could the Coen Bros. win big at the Oscars again this year?

Why didn’t “True Grit” get any nominations for the Golden Globes this year? Probably because the film came out too late. “True Grit” may possibly get some nominations for the Oscars though. Just because the “Social Network” won big at the Golden Globes last night, doesn’t mean the film will win at the Oscars. The Coen Bros. first won big at the Oscars in 2008 for the film, “No Country For Old Men”. This could be Coen Bros. year again. Don’t be surprised.

Report: Arnold to Hollywood, “I’ll be back”!!!

After the former Governor of California’s run in the office, you just wonder what is next for Arnold Schwarzenegger. You just wonder if he’ll stick with politics or go back to movies full time. Well I guess he is going back to Hollywood full time because news hit the web today, that Arnold is going through three different movie scripts for big leading roles. One is a film called, “Crusade” directed by Paul Verhoeven and the other is a WWII flick titled, “Wings with Eagles”. It is not known what the third script is.

See the report here at, The Arnold Fans site.

I’ve always wanted to see Arnold in a war film, so glad he’s actually looking into it. Hopefully Arnold will return to Terminator 5 as an appropriate Terminator we all want to see and also, hopefully Arnold will have a longer role for, “The Expendables” sequel, with Arnold doing action scenes with Sly for “The Expendables” sequel this time around.

Arnold must of missed acting in film while he was doing his governor thing. Glad he’s coming back, I knew he would!

Thought: The Golden Globes was actually a pretty good show…

I was pretty happy with the winners tonight. It’s no surprise to me that the “Social Network” was going to win big. David Fincher won for Best Director and “The Social Network” won for Best Motion Picture. Look at the winners on their site, here.

The awards went to the right people this year. I was kind of disappointed that Michael Douglas didn’t win, but Christian Bale deserved it too. I loved Bale in, “The Fighter”. It was a big shocker to me that Natalie Portman won for “Black Swan”. I didn’t think Natalie would get it. I was rooting for Jennifer Lawrence or Michelle Williams, but Natalie ended up getting it. Natalie getting the win was another disappointing thing about the Globes, I still stand by it, that her performance in “Black Swan” is not that award worthy.

I was also happy for Steve Buscemi and Paul Giammati, both are fine actors and very underrated. I don’t watch “Boardwalk Empire”, but Steve Buscemi is a great actor, I’ve watched his movies for years. Melissa Leo winning for the “Fighter” was a bit of a shocker too, I didn’t think she get that. Melissa Leo played Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg’s mother in “The Fighter”.

I was thrilled for Al Pacino. I have seen, “You Don’t Know Jack” on HBO a few times, and yes, it was a pretty amazing film. Pacino’s best acting in a long time, so that award is well deserved. Pacino have been a favorite actor of mine for years, I’ve seen all of his flicks. Pretty much all of them.

Now you have an idea what the Oscars would be like this year. The winners will probably be the same for the Oscars as well.

I loved it when Michael Douglas went up there to present an award, he got a pretty emotional standing ovation from the crowd. So the celebrities know about his throat cancer which he doesn’t have anymore. Douglas is cured. When the audience gave Michael a standing ovation, you can see sad looks on their faces, so you can tell they were feeling sad for Michael. Michael is a great actor too, loved a lot of his movies. “Falling Down” and “Traffic” are two of my favorite movies of his. I haven’t seen “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” yet, but plan to check it out soon.

Ricky Gervais did a good job hosting. Rude & crude, and funny like he always is. I like Ricky, he’s a funny as hell. I do watch “The Ricky Gervais” show sometimes. The Robert Deniro speech was pretty amazing as well.  Golden Globes this year was pretty decent.

Cool Video: Andy Sandberg gets drunk with Pee Wee on SNL…

Well, Saturday Night Live last night with Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t that great. Gwyneth wasn’t a good host and she was pretty boring. There is one segment that I liked last night, the skit where Andy Sandberg gets drunk with Pee Wee Herman, and then they cause trouble in NYC. Who knew that Anderson Cooper had acting skills? Even Anderson did a good job. This skit was very entertaining, of course, anything that involves Pee Wee is entertaining. Please get Pee Wee to host SNL ’cause he deserves it too, Pee Wee never hosted SNL before, believe it or not.

See the video, here.
