“Superman III” is not a bad movie that everyone thinks it is…

Critics and movie fans, thinks “Superman III” is the worst film of the whole series. I just watched this movie again on Blu Ray while going through this new “Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology” Blu Ray set. Want to know what I think of this film now? I love it a lot more! This movie isn’t bad at all. In fact, it’s my favorite of the whole series.

Warner Bros. clearly wanted to make this movie a different Superman movie than the first two. The reason people are complaining about “Superman III” was that Superman wasn’t used much in this film. No Lex Luthor and not much Lois Lane. Plus, everyone hated Richard Pryor’s character, Gus Gorman. People also hated all the comedy that was thrown into the film.

I’m going to explain everything why Warner Bros. and director, Richard Lester did what they did. The reason Superman and Lois Lane wasn’t used too much because those two characters were pretty much used throughout the first two movies. Warner Bros. wanted to give other characters a chance to get more screen time. Superman was used way too much for the first two movies, in this film, they wanted to do something a little different and give Clark Kent more screen time. So in order for it to make it work, Clark went to his high school reunion back to Smallville where he reunited with Lana Lang. Superman had a love interest with Lois, but when he’s Clark Kent, Clark never had a love interest from the first two films. In “Superman III” they wanted Lana Lang to be Clark’s love interest. Clark Kent got more screen time than Superman did because I believe Warner Bros. wanted this film to be Clark’s film. This film went deep into Clark’s past in Smallville.

The reason Richard Pryor was chosen for the leading role, was that Warner Bros. wanted the film to be more comedic. So they hired an experienced comedic actor. They wanted a stand up comedian as the leading character of Gus Gorman so he is able to improvise and ad-lib funny lines. That’s why they hired Richard ’cause he was able to improvise dialogue that wasn’t in the script. They also wanted to give someone else a chance to get the spotlight and not have Superman hog it all.

Another reason for the Gus Gorman character is, since Superman was known to saving other people, Warner Bros. wanted to take this film in a different direction and they wanted someone else to save Superman from danger instead. Gus Gorman was the only one able to save Superman’s life ’cause Gus knew how to use the supercomputer he used at the end of the movie. People mistakenly looked at Gus Gorman as a villain in the film, he never was. He never wanted to kill Superman. Gus did all that work for Ross Webster because Gus was desperate for a job.

This film was a great opportunity for Richard Pryor, after this movie, he became a more mainstream of an actor. After this movie, Richard went on to even bigger films such as “Brewster’s Millions”, “See No Evil, Hear No Evil”, “Harlem Nights”, etc.

The reason “Superman III” was more of a comedy film this time is because the first two Superman films were pretty dark. Warner Bros. wanted to brighten up the mood with the Superman franchise by turning it into a more family friendly entertainment. They also wanted this movie to be a film for kids to enjoy as well.

Lex Luthor wasn’t used because Gene Hackman wasn’t available at the time. I read somewhere Gene turned it down ’cause he was committed to other film projects. So Warner Bros. wrote in an original character, Ross Webster, instead.

I think “Superman III” was a pretty special film. It was action packed, Superman saved a lot of people. Yes, the best scene of the whole movie was obviously Evil Superman vs. Clark Kent the junkyard fight scene.

I think there’s nothing wrong with the film. It’s a really good Superman movie, in my opinion. It’s also Christopher Reeve’s best acting too. Give this film a chance. Give it another viewing. You’ll understand it, the more you watch it.

Happy Birthday Arnold!

The Governator turned 64 today! Happy Birthday Arnold! I don’t care how crazy Arnold gets in the media and politics, I’ll always stay loyal to him ’cause I’m a huge fan. I’m just so glad he’s done with that politics shit and coming back to the movies where he truly belongs! Can’t wait for his return to the big screen!

Report: John Travolta, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris rumored castings for “The Expendables” sequel…

The filming for the next “Expendables’ movie will start filming this Sept. Yes, the original cast you see in the picture above is expected to reprise their roles (except for Steve Austin who was killed in the first one). Arnold and Bruce are expected to return but everyone is expecting Bruce and Arnold to have longer roles, not just cameos.

Of course, the film will add some more big name tough guys and there was a few more names brought up who are rumored to be part of the sequel. Those actors are: John Travolta, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris. These are just rumors so don’t believe them as of yet.

Van Damme is definitely a possibility, so I can see Van Damme in the film. John Travolta is a possibility too ’cause Sly and Travolta have been friends for years (they already worked together in “Staying Alive”, Sly directed that movie, John starred in it). I’m not so sure about Chuck Norris.

I hope the Chuck Norris rumor is true ’cause he hasn’t done any acting in years, I hope he makes a huge comeback. If Chuck is in the movie, I can see him being one of the villains, not the Expendables team. It would be great to see Chuck back in Hollywood, I enjoyed his action movies in the 80’s. Especially films like “Firewalker”, “The Octagon”, “Forced Vengeance”, “The Missing In Action” trilogy, etc. Loved all of his flicks in the 80’s.

Report: Marvel wins copyrights to some of their characters over legal battle against Jack Kirby…

Marvel just won a huge lawsuit battle against the heirs of Jack Kirby. Jack Kirby co-created some of the Marvel characters with Stan Lee such as Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. The Jack Kirby estate sued Marvel when Disney bought the company in 2009, they wanted complete control of those characters I mentioned.

The reason Marvel won the battle is because the characters were a “work for hire” thing, which is not entitled for copyright law to revoke the rights.

Congrats Marvel! If they were successful on scoring the copyrights from their characters, then Warner Bros. could have a chance in winning the full copyrights to “Superman” against the Siegel heirs. I’m pretty sure Warner Bros. will win their battle too. It would be sad if the Siegel’s won and they get full control of Superman, then Warner Bros. will no longer make more “Superman” movies after Zack Snyder is done with his. I wish Warner Bros. good luck.

Report: Joe Pesci sues the Gotti’s claiming he got screwed over role…

Joe Pesci is suing the film makers of “Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father” accusing them of yanking the role Anglo Ruggiero, after gaining 30 lbs for the role like he was asked. Instead they asked him to play a smaller role of Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso with a smaller pay of $1 Million. The film also stars John Travolta and Al Pacino.

Well I’m siding with Joe. If you’re dealing with the Gotti’s who were all former mob men, you can’t trust any of them. I’m surprised Travolta and Pacino are both still on the project.

Cool Video: “Battleship” trailer hits online!!!

Peter Berg’s “Battleship” movie based on the popular board game hits the internet today. From what I remember, the original Battleship game was never about battling against aliens. It’s supposed to be about battling other ships such as the Destroyer, submarine, aircraft carrier, etc. Just adding alien ships to the mix is just silly. The film stars Liam Neeson and Taylor Kitsch. Definitely looks like a wait for DVD thing for me. I’m not that excited about it.

Check it out, here.

Report: JJ Abrams says he’s game for directing “Star Trek” sequel!!!

For a while now, JJ Abrams wasn’t sure if he will direct the “Star Trek” sequel. Now that he’s done with “Super 8”, he signed on to direct “Star Trek 2”. He’s working with the same writers from the first “Star Trek” movie, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof. I’m sure the same cast from the first movie will return too.

Deadline, reports.

I thought the first Star Trek movie with JJ was very good. Lets hope they do a good job with the second movie too. Will JJ finally agree that William Shatner should star in it this time? Hopefully!!! Captain Kirk died in “Generations”, but it’s science fiction. There are always ways to bring the original Capt. Kirk with Shatner back.

It be kind of cool if Patrick Stewart as Cpt. Picard can make a return too.

BREAKING NEWS: Frank Darabont quits the “Walking Dead”!!!!

Well, who didn’t see this one coming? Frank Darabont just attended this week’s San Diego Comic Con to take the stage and talk with reporters to promote “Season 2”, and just a few days later, he announced he is quitting the series. Frank Darabont is the man responsible for bringing us the series based on the comic books. He didn’t explain the reason why he is stepping down.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

Good, who needs him. The guy seems like a prick anyway considering he fired all the writers from Season 1 and replaced new writers for Season 2.

I’m sure the show will do fine without him.

Thought: Who should play Amy Winehouse for her biopic film when they do one?

Now that Amy is gone, you can expect Hollywood to make a biopic film about her where an actress would play the deceased pop star. The actress would have to match her look and be around the same age.

Here are my picks of young actresses that should play Amy:

  • Scarlett Johansson – Scarlett is just about Amy’s age and she has the good enough acting chops to play just about anything, plus she can sing and has musical experience.
  • Megan Fox – For years, Megan and Amy have been compared to each other. They both look kind of similar. Just give Megan the similar clothing Amy wears, the same tattoos, and there you go, Megan would look exactly like Amy. Megan doesn’t sing but she could learn for the film.
  • Keira Knightley – She’s got Amy’s look a little bit too.
  • Natalie Portman – Simply because she did a great job with “Black Swan”, I think Natalie would be a good fit.
  • Christina Aguilera – She did a good job playing the leading role in the film “Burlesque” which is a film that I actually enjoyed, plus, she’s an actual musician and singer too. She wouldn’t be a bad pick.

I would go see an Amy Winehouse biopic film, depending on who’s directing and starring in it. I just hope they make it an Oscar winning movie when they do one.

Report: Did Judd Apatow write a sequel to “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”???

Pee Wee Herman, the man himself made an appearance at San Diego Comic Con this week. During his panel, he revealed some plot points of Judd Apatow’s script for the new upcoming Pee Wee movie. Pee Wee announced that the movie is similar to “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure”. The new film will be a new adventure and it will be a road movie.

Does this mean his famous bike will return?

More on it, here.

Well, I’m glad the new film will be similar to “Big Adventure”. I think he just hinted that it could be a sequel to that movie. It’ll be great if Dottie, Francis, and Mickey came back played by the same actors. A “Big Adventure” reunion movie would be great!

I’m a huge fan of the Pee Wee character. I’m not ashamed of it. I don’t care how many people thinks it’s weird.
