Predictions for “Best Picture” nominations…

Since the Oscar nominations is coming around the corner, that’s Feb. 2nd, here are my final predictions for “Best Picture” nominations…they are:

  • Avatar
  • Inglourious Basterds
  • The Hurt Locker
  • Precious
  • Nine
  • Julie & Julia
  • Up In the Air
  • Crazy Heart
  • A Single Man
  • Star Trek (JJ Abrams)

I think we can safely say that these are the most likely films will be getting nominated. Who knows, maybe the Oscars will surprise us and there maybe totally different ones. I threw in “Star Trek” ’cause there was word by the Academy that it could even get a nomination. Who knows, maybe even “Sherlock Holmes” will get a nod for Best Picture.

Can’t wait to see the nominations on Feb. 2nd.

Report: Tim Burton to do a movie about the Maleficent villain from Disney’s, “Sleeping Beauty”…

Word going around the internets, that Tim Burton has confirmed he’s doing another Disney remake by doing a spinoff from “Sleeping Beauty”. He will be doing a film about the famous, “Maleficent” character from the film.

If it’s true, then who will play Maleficent? I would think, no one other than Tim Burton’s wife, Helena Bonham Carter. Helena’s face is similar to Maleficent, so maybe he’s doing this movie to give his wife an opportunity to get the leading role?

And maybe Johnny Depp will do the voice overs for that bird. You know Depp will be involved with the film somehow.

Report: Bruce Campbell to fight Frankenstein in his next film…

Bruce Campbell announced he is set to star the leading role once again in another horror/comedy type of film titled, “Bruce Vs. Frankenstein”. It will be the sequel to “My Name Is Bruce”. Look like Bruce will go to war against this screwheaded monster named Frankenstein. Sounds pretty goofy but I’m sure it will be entertaining.

Lets hope Sam Raimi and Bruce are planning another Evil Dead movie too!

Exclusive: Pirates of the Carribean 4 filming in Hawaii this summer!!!

The Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle confirmed with Disney that “Pirates of the Carribean 4” will begin shooting this summer. See the exclusive story below.

————————————————-

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i will be the location for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth installment of the highly successful Walt Disney Pictures’ action adventure film series starring Johnny Depp, according to a news release Monday from the governor’s office.

The Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger met with Gov. Linda Lingle on Friday to share the news that the islands of Kaua‘i and O‘ahu will be sites for the production of the feature film, which will begin shooting this summer and is slated to be released in summer 2011.

The production is expected to generate an estimated $85 million in direct and indirect spending in Hawai‘i, providing a needed economic boost for the state’s economy as well as creating hundreds of jobs for local residents, the release states.

“Disney’s long-term commitment to Hawai‘i — from ABC’s ‘LOST’ to the new Disney resort on O‘ahu scheduled to open in 2011, and now the upcoming filming of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ — is a testament to the company’s confidence in our state as a great place to do business,“ Lingle said.

“The Walt Disney Company has a great relationship with Hawai‘i that we’re looking forward to building upon with the filming of the latest adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew,” said Iger.

“We’ve always sought out the most extraordinary and exotic locations for the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer, “and previously shot briefly on both Maui and Moloka‘i for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.’ Hawai‘i provides an amazing range of both land and seascapes, and we’re delighted to return for ‘On Stranger Tides.’”

The state’s Creative Industries Division and the Hawai‘i Film Office, which are housed in the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, began working with Disney last year and organized a series of meetings and conference calls to help secure the business.

Georja Skinner, the state’s Creative Industries Division administrator who oversees operations of the Hawai‘i Film Office, worked collaboratively with the governor’s office, Department of Taxation and Tourism Liaison Marsha Wienert, along with Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau, Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, the Kaua‘i Film Office, the City and County’s Honolulu Film Office, The Resort Group, Ko Olina Resort and Disney Vacation Club to help secure “Pirates of the Caribbean” for Hawai‘i.

“Hawai‘i competes on a global basis for productions and to have Disney choose Hawai‘i over other states and countries is a huge win for us,” said Skinner. “Creative industries are by nature collaborative and what I think made a difference for us is the combination of our tax incentive as well as local film, travel and destination industry support.”

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” joins a list of feature film and television productions slated to film in Hawai‘i this year. Warner Bros. feature “Hereafter,” directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt Damon, completed filming on Maui last week.

Pre-production is also beginning for the feature film “The Descendents,” starring George Clooney and directed by Academy Award-winning writer/director Alexander Payne. The film is based on the book by Hawai‘i resident Kau‘i Hart Hemmings. Several network pilots, as well as a Japanese drama series and a Korean drama series are also scouting Hawai‘i for projects this year.

Report: James Cameron buries the hatchet with fan…

Remember the fight James Cameron got into with the fan at LAX airport? Where they shouted at each other and calling each other “assholes”? Well Cameron spotted the guy hanging at the Beverly Hills Hotel and decided to make peace with the fan that wanted an autograph. Although they seem to be friends now, I think the only reason Cameron did it was that he was too excited for his big Golden Globe win for “Best Director/Best Picture” of “Avatar”. He wanted to show some heart.

I think a director like Cameron, sometimes he’s on his good days and he’s on his bad days. Maybe back at the LAX airport incident, he was just having a lousy day which he didn’t feel like dealing with fans that night. His Golden Globe wins made Cameron a happier guy.

Golden Globes thoughts, actually wasn’t a bad show…

Just got done watching the “Golden Globes”. Wasn’t a bad show. Pretty decent. Some great choices and a few bad ones.

See the winners here:

A few shockers that I never saw coming. Robert Downey Jr. for “Sherlock Holmes” and Jeff Bridges “Crazy Heart”, I never thought they would get it. Good choices on them. I was also shocked by John Lithgow winning for “Dexter” that was also surprising.

I was also kind of surprised that Tina Fey didn’t even win anything this year, which is actually good, give someone else a chance finally.

I didn’t like Alec Baldwin winning again.

I’m happy for Kevin Bacon winning for “Taking Chance” as I want to see that movie that’s based on HBO. I’m glad for Drew Barrymore, she never won something that big before and she admitted it on stage during her acceptance speech. I’m sure Drew Barrymore won other small awards for her films but she never won anything that big for the Globes/Oscars. It’s about time too.

Ricky Gervais the host, was actually pretty funny, I laughed at his jokes. Of course, there had to be a few jokes about the “Jay Leno vs. Conan O’ Brien” feud tonight. Ricky Gervais and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger both joked about it.

The only reason I watched tonight’s “Golden Globes” was that so I can tell what the potential Oscar nominations will be.

I’ve seen most of the movies nominated except for “Julie and Julia”, “It’s Complicated”, and “Precious”. I’ll be looking forward to seeing them when they hit DVD. “Julie and Julia” is already on DVD and I’ll see that one when I get around to it. I like Meryl Streep too.

Not a bad show overall, lets hope the Oscars will be a little better. We will know the Oscar nominations very soon on Feb. 2nd which is just around the corner.

Adrien Brody on the set of Predators and a few other pics…

Robert Rodriguez has finally started filming, “Predators”. Here is a pic of Adrien Brody on set. I used to be worried of Adrien taking over Arnold’s place, but to my surprise, I actually like it so far. Adrien has a good look for this role. Maybe he does has what it takes to be a tough guy badass after all? I’ll wait for a teaser trailer first and then I’ll make my decision if I want to see this in theater or not. In the background if you look closely you notice the original Stan Winston predator. So this might be a great movie after all!

The Hurt Locker…

I just got done watching the movie, “The Hurt Locker”, on DVD, a war film directed by Kathryn Bigelow. I just wanted to review it a little bit. I was very impressed and blown away by the film. Sent chills down my spine. It’s one of the best war films I’ve seen in many years. A lot of the newer war films haven’t been that great and finally we get a great one. When you watch this film, it may seem like a man directed this movie when it isn’t. Kathryn makes you feel like a man directed it. Respects go out to Kathryn. Making a film like this would be difficult for a woman to do and she pulled it off. Not many women directors make movies like this. Most female directors are into romantic comedies, dramas, and serious films. Not war films with intense action scenes.

The movie is based on War In Iraq. It tells a story of a young bomb squad team going around Iraq disarming bombs set that are hidden in various things. Bombs could be set in cars even on human people, etc. Jeremy Renner plays Sgt. James which he is an expert bomb disarmer. They try their best to survive.

Very impressive film making by Kathryn. The action scenes were unbelievable. Loud explosions that sounded great on a home theater. I think there will be a sequel on the way ’cause the ending left open for another movie, I think. I’m pretty positive the “Hurt Locker” will make a Best Picture nomination for the Oscars. This would be my pick for Best Picture winner over the other choices, indeed. It would be appropriate if this movie won Best Picture, since War in Iraq is still going on. While, “The Hurt Locker” is fiction, it is still a realistic film since it was taken place in War in Iraq. You should definitely check this out if you like war movies.

In this movie, there are blood and guts scenes that may make your stomach turn…so just a warning.

Report: Tom Hanks to get on the director’s chair again for “Larry Crowne”, Julia Roberts to star…

Tom Hanks is finally getting on the director’s chair again, ever since the movie, “That Thing You Do”. Hanks will star the lead and direct, “Larry Crowne” which he also wrote the script for the film. He already signed Julia Roberts to star along with him. This isn’t the first time the two starred in a film together, as they starred together in, “Charlie Wilson’s War”.

Look like Tom Hanks and Ron Howard are finally taking a break from Dan Brown movies to move on to different things.

More on it here:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/16054/tom-hanks-directing-larry-crowne

I’m glad Hanks is directing again. ’cause “That Thing You Do” is one of my favorite films of his. He should direct more ’cause he is talented.

Thought: See? Stone Cold really is a tough SOB in real life…

In WWE, he was well known as the “Toughest SOB”. Now that he broke Sylvester Stallone’s neck in real life, well, that makes Steve Austin a “tough SOB” in real life as well. Stallone is a tough dude as well. Do you think anybody can break Stallone’s neck? No. Austin was somehow lucky to do it to Sly.

I’m pretty sure Austin really doesn’t care if Sly broke his neck in a fight scene with Austin. Austin would think that’s what “Stone Cold” is all about in real life, not in wrestling. He would think breaking Stallone’s neck as an honor for him. So for those who would think Austin may be worried about Sly being hurt, don’t be. I’m 100% positive, Austin LOVED every minute of it. People used to think Stallone is a tough dude, but Austin turned the tables and made Stallone look like a wimp.

The fight scene in the Expendables movie was real between Austin and Stallone. Stallone was willing to get hurt for it to make it look real. From the sound of things, this fight scene sounds fuckin’ brutal and can’t wait to see it. Austin would think of this as a historic moment in his career, breaking a legend’s neck who is responsible for bringing us Rocky and Rambo. Austin doesn’t feel sorry for Sly.
