Why so many people are upset with “Star Trek Into Darkness”… just saw it…

I’ve just seen, “Star Trek Into Darkness” and since so many people gave this film mixed reviews, I wanted to talk about my thoughts on why people hated it so much. There’s a few reasons for the negative criticism over, “Star Trek Into Darkness”, the latest Star Trek movie by JJ Abrams. I’ll put a spoiler warning in.

***************************SPOILER WARNING**********************

*****************************************************************

The reason this film has gotten negatively criticized a lot is because of a few big scenes…..

1) Kirk’s death scene is a total remake from Spock’s death from, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”. Spock stealing, “Khhaaaaaan’s” catchphrase from Kirk was wrong too.

2)  The Spock vs. Khan fight scene was messed up also. Keep in mind that Mr. Spock was never a violent guy. Throughout the original TV series and the original movies, Spock never used his fists to fight. Except the only time Spock used violence was that he used a weapon to fight Kirk in the original Star Trek episode, “Amok Time”. Other than that, Spock never used any violence whatsoever. If Spock wanted to hurt people, he would do the pinch nerve that he’s known for and I don’t think I haven’t seen Zachary Quinto do that with his Spock.

3) The Enterprise hiding underwater was silly as hell.

4) There are also tons of plot holes throughout the film… the script was a mess.

5) Benedict Cumberbatch trying too hard to be Ricardo Montalban who played the original Khan

The good things I can say about the new movie is that Spock in the volcano scene was kind of cool and I also liked Peter Weller, the Robocop actor, being in the film. He played a good villain. I also liked Alice Eve, the sexy blonde in the film.

Other than that, the film was a big disappointment. I didn’t “hate it”…. it just wasn’t very good. It was definitely a little better than “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier”, though. I’m glad JJ left for Star Wars. Who ever takes JJ’s place in Star Trek better do a good job ’cause this franchise needs to get saved, big time.

I’d still say ditch the re-boot and try something new.

Why not give “Deep Space Nine” their own movie? I just started watching “Deep Space Nine” on Netflix and it’s a great show actually. I kind of like it more than TNG, honestly. “Deep Space Nine” definitely deserves their own film.

“A True Movie Buff”

I love to watch movies — not only because
they’re entertaining — I watch movies
’cause they help me get through life.

There are so many people who
call themselves movie buffs but
they aren’t really.

How?

They only concentrate on watching movies
that are promoted in the mainstream.
They may know who the actors are but
they don’t know the directors, producers,
and writers.
They also stick with watching popular movies
but they ignore the classics, independent films,
and B-movies.

I learned that if you want to be a
true movie buff… you have to watch
all genres. Know who the actors, directors,
producers, and writers are. Know the story
of the film. Watch all of the important
classics.

If you haven’t watched anything by Marilyn Monroe,
Audrey Hepburn or Jimmy Stewart, then you aren’t a
true movie buff.
If you haven’t watched, “Exit Through the Gift Shop”,
“Citizen Kane”, or “The West Side Story”, then you
aren’t a true movie buff.

If you haven’t seen anything by John Carpenter, Sylvester
Stallone or Bruce Campbell then you aren’t a true
movie buff.

If you haven’t seen the Godfather movies,
all of the Star Trek films or the Rocky series then
you aren’t a true movie buff.

Here is some kind advice…
see as many movies as possible
read about movies
and learn everything as much as possible about them
If you can do all this, then maybe
you can be called a true movie buff.

“The Place Beyond the Pines”, a brief review…

Last night, I finally got around to watching, “The Place Beyond the Pines”. The newest film starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendez, Ray Liotta and Bradley Cooper. This entire movie was filmed in the town of Schenectady, N.Y. which is a town in the Capital District area. The reason this movie is titled, “The Place Beyond the Pines” is because that is just another name for Schenectady. Yes, the film makers and actors really did film this movie in the town of Schenectady. It was filmed on a real location, no movie studios.

The film tells a story about a man named Luke Glanton who is a professional motorcycle stuntman. He learns that he has a son that he didn’t know he had and in order for him to have a better life, he wanted to take care of his son on his own. Luke doesn’t have much of a life other than his professional motorcycle riding which is what he did for a living. He quit his job as a motorcycle stuntman so he can take care of his ex-girlfriend, Romina and his son. Realizing that he can’t make money anywhere else, he decided to start robbing banks as given advice by his friend, Robin. This leads into a major feud with a rookie cop who works for a corrupt police force.

That’s enough of the plot ’cause I don’t want to give too much away. So far, I think this the best film released this year. This film tells three different stories. A background story of Luke Glanton. The film was well-made and the film was acted very well by everyone who starred in the film. Not just the big name stars did a great job in acting, even the lesser known actors in the film did pretty amazing. This is the most realistic movie, I’ve ever seen in a long time. The things you see in this movie can happen in real life. Plus, the film did an excellent job giving you an idea of what Schenectady, N.Y. is really like.

I don’t like Schenectady. Not a lot of people do for a good reason. Schenectady has a corrupt police force. Too many crazy people. Crime rate is high there. Too many kids getting in trouble. You will see stuff like that in the film. Even though I don’t go to Schenectady too much, I do recognize a lot of familiar areas and places in the film especially Vale Cemetery and the ice cream place you see in the photo above.

I thought it was a beautiful film and it was definitely way better than, “Blue Valentine”. The writing was perfect, so was the acting. No complaints. It was a pretty intense movie. I think this film has “Best Picture” potential for the Oscars and it’ll probably get a nomination, hopefully. It was one of the best films released this year. Definitely check it out!

“Jurassic World” set for June of 2015…

jurassic_world_logo_a_l

Universal announced the title for the 4th installment to the Jurassic Park franchise: “Jurassic World” is set for release on June 12, 2015.

Once again, Steven Spielberg will NOT direct this one but he will still help produce. Colin Trevorrow will be the director.

No details on the plot and no casting as of yet but I’m sure we’ll hear more as time goes along.

The Hollywood Reporter, reports.

I wonder if Sam Neil or Jeff Goldblum will return to this one? Maybe both of these guys will star in the film together? Keep in mind that both of these men are aging so they might be a little too old to be running around getting chased by dino’s but ya never know though. Maybe Sam and Jeff would be game to coming back? Anyway, I’m pretty sure we’re gonna see a few familiar faces. They will indeed have a few cast members from the earlier films. One actor I hope to see return to the franchise is Richard Attenborough who played the park’s creator, John Hammond. You probably remember him from the first two films, right?

I like the Jurassic Park series; however, I find Jurassic Park III to be the best one. That was the one where Sam Neil returned in the leading role. JP3 was actually a pretty intense movie.

I hope they do a good job with JP4. I wish them luck.

Cool Video: “Robocop” remake actually looks pretty awesome!!!

MGM released the first trailer for the “Robocop” remake and I’m actually kind of impressed with it! I was skeptical of the remake but now that I’ve seen the trailer, I guess I’ll have a positive opinion for it. Joel Kinnaman is the new Robocop. The film also stars Sam L. Jackson and Gary Oldman. I like the new Robocop armor as well.

While the remake does look like a good one, it still won’t top the original with Peter Weller. The original is an essential classic. The original is one of my favorite films of all time.

Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele finally casted for “50 Shades of Grey” movie… who are they???

The “50 Shades of Grey” movie won’t be much of a cast. Why? Because the whole book is pretty much two people throughout the story. Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, the two main characters of the book have finally been casted. Christian will be played by “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam (who plays Jax Teller in the show) and Anastasia will be played by Dakota Johnson.

Some of you may already know that I’ve read the book. Just the first book only. I thought the book wasn’t that great to be honest with you. Even all the sex stuff in the book wasn’t all that great. I felt it wasn’t erotic enough. Maybe the women would feel differently, though but there are way better erotic stories out there. Forget “50 Shades”. If you want hot & steamy erotic stories check out the Penthouse letters or do some googling. There are plenty of BDSM stories out there too.

While I wasn’t that crazy about the “50 Shades”, I can respect the fact that all this is proving is that a lot of women out there are really into sex and they enjoy it. Don’t let the women fool you. They can be into porn and they can be pretty sexual just as the men can. Yeah, I’m not afraid to say that I get into porn myself but I’m not gonna go to the theater to see this when it comes out. If the book turns out to be a piece of trash, I expect the movie to be garbage too. I’ll still check out the movie, just not in theater. You can very well believe that the theaters will be packed with women.

Will we see Dakota Johnson naked a lot in this movie? Will we see a lot of tits & ass? She probably will be naked but I have a feeling they will find a way not to show her privates. I have a feeling they will probably show Charlie naked more than Dakota. I think the target audience of a movie like this will be mostly aimed at women. They would want the women to be going crazy over Christian Grey. If you’re a guy and hoping to see Anastasia naked, then you’re probably gonna be disappointed. They really should show Anastasia naked in the film, though, ’cause a BDSM movie wouldn’t have mattered if she wasn’t.

It’s gonna be interesting to see what rating this film is gonna be, though. It’s gonna be kind of tough to make an R-rated BDSM movie and they might get forced to rate it NC-17. Knowing how nasty the book can get sometimes. There might be a huge rating battle with the film.

Jack Black reunites with School of Rock kids in celebration of 10 year anniversary…

1269256_10151664971953801_402160530_o

Jack Black reunited with some of the cast members of the 2003 comedy film, “School of Rock”, as you can see in the photo here. It is in celebration of the film’s 10th Anniversary. In this photo are just 5 of the kids from the School of Rock band, not the whole gang. I believe this photo was sent by Miranda Cosgrove who plays Summer in the film (she’s pictured bottom row, center). The kids look pretty much the same, they’re just a bit older now.

There have been talks on a sequel for years but Jack said last year, he tried really hard to get Richard Linklater (the director) and Mike White (screenwriter) back together for the sequel but he failed. Jack is dying to make the sequel happen himself but he wouldn’t do it without the film’s original creators. Mike White is the film’s screenwriter and actor who also has a role in the film as Ned Schneebly.

I think a sequel would be great ’cause “School of Rock” is actually a wonderful film. It’s one of my favorite comedies. It’s also a pretty realistic movie too. You can actually learn about rock n’ roll from it.

“School of Rock” is one of those films, I can watch over and over… never get tired of it.

“Oz: The Great and Powerful” brief review…

So I finally saw, “Oz: The Great and Powerful” on DVD last night. It was a Netflix DVD rental. This film is the prequel to the original 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz” directed by Victor Fleming and based upon the book by L. Frank Baum.

My thoughts on, “Oz: The Great and Powerful”… I thought the film did a pretty good job explaining the original film; however, the script was a mess. Yes, this new film was based upon the Oz books ’cause remember they were a series of novels. Sam Raimi was pretty faithful to the stories but there was something missing with the script and needed a little improvement. The dialogue was a bit of a mess and the acting wasn’t that great either. I thought James Franco was pretty annoying and they should have used a better choice of an actor for Oz.

I was actually most impressed with Mila Kunis who played the Wicked Witch of the West. Mila was the best part of the movie. She was pretty sexy as hell in the film with or without the witch costume & makeup. Mila made a sexy Wicked Witch even in the green skin. Mila did a great job playing her.

After watching the movie, I can see why Disney wanted Sam Raimi to direct this movie ’cause they wanted this movie to be kind of scary and they knew that Raimi has horror experience. A lot of material in this reminded me so much of the “Evil Dead” movies, for sure. I’ve always liked Sam Raimi’s directing style. He’s unique and different. Even though this is a high budget movie, Sam still has some of his B-movie directing in this film.

Some of this movie is pretty entertaining, though. The film has a lot of action and quite a bit of violence in it. Sam did an okay job making Oz having a love for magic and turning him into an evil wizard when he’s not really.

With all this being said, I thought the film was okay. Nothing all that great and nothing amazing. I just wish they didn’t make it so similar to the original film. After I watched this film last night, I thought to myself, “Was this a remake or a prequel”? I looked at it as a remake ’cause almost every scene was pretty much the same from the original film. If you wanna call it a prequel, then make it a prequel… don’t make it similar. I hate it when prequels do that. George Lucas didn’t do that with the Star Wars movies… he made those prequels totally different stories.

The original “Wizard of Oz” movie with Judy Garland is one of my favorite films. I’ve seen that movie too many times ever since I was a child and still love that film. It’s a classic indeed and honestly that film doesn’t need prequels, remakes or sequels. It should have been left alone ’cause if you make it a prequel, you’re just ruining the mysterious part of the story. It takes the magic out of it, know what I mean?

“Oz: The Great and Powerful” was alright. It’s nothing I’ll watch over and over again. It’s still worth checking out, though!

Finally, a photo of Harrison Ford on the set of EXP3!!!!

1186226_10151804131776760_1266005208_n

Arnold just tweeted this pic today of him filming “Expendables 3”. Look like Arnold is still on for the Expendables even though Bruce is no longer in it! Here is Arnold on the set of the EXP3 with Harrison Ford and the guy in the center is the film’s director, Patrick Hughes.

You can tell by the look of Harrison’s face that he looks pretty psyched to be a part of this franchise.

Nice to finally see Arnold and Harrison together. Two icons of Hollywood! Terminator and Indiana Jones!

Now I hope I’ll get a photo of Mel Gibson on the set of the film.

The internet bashed Heath Ledger when he was first announced as the Joker… check here for proof…

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm….

Check this out, read the fan comments this article at RottenTomatoes and tell me what you see. The comments aren’t so kind are they? Now look what happened. People loved Heath as the Joker when “The Dark Knight” first came out.

I think it’s unfair and wrong that people have to be so critical over Ben. Ben’s so called bad-acting was years ago. His acting has greatly improved over the last 10 years or so. People loved Ben in “The Town” and “Argo” which both were great flicks but now they don’t want him as Batman?

People maybe skeptical now but I think people will love Ben as Batman. Ben is gonna kill it, I’m sure. When Ben was hired for Batman, he must of auditioned for it and Zach Snyder must of loved him. Make no mistake people. Zach knows his actors. He did a good job casting for the first, “Man of Steel” movie. I’m sure he won’t disappoint with the sequel.

People were skeptical of “Man of Steel” film itself but when that movie came out, the film got nothing but positive reviews. Zach Snyder likes to trick people like this. He has pulled stuff like this before with his older movies. Do controversial things and people end up liking it later.

I don’t get all the hate. It’s just a lot of bandwagon jumping — people siding with popular opinion.

Ben will know what to do with the role. I can’t wait to see how he’s gonna pull it off. You can’t badly judge him just because you didn’t like him in “Daredevil”. That film was years ago and Ben was younger back in those days. I totally support Ben as Batman.
