Film Of The Day: The Boondock Saints

Happy St. Patty’s. I thought today would be a great day to do an Irish film. The first “Boondock Saints” was really good. The sequel was okay, but the first one was very well made. It stars Sean Patrick Flanery, and Norman Reedus (Daryl in, “The Walking Dead”). It also stars Willem Dafoe.

The film tells the story about twin Irish brothers, who accidentally kills a bunch of thugs. Later, they see it as a calling from God, so they end up killing even more thugs. Willem Dafoe’s character, Det. Paul Smecker, starts to investigate the crimes, but the closer he is to catch the Irish brothers, the more he thinks they just did the right thing.

I first saw this movie on Netflix. I believe it was one of the first movies I watched on Netflix when I first got my account. The writing was really good, and it was a very entertaining, and funny film. True Irish film, indeed. When you watch a film like this, you can tell it was done Irish style. It’s also a great action movie. No car chases. No explosions. You will see a movie full of gun shooting, all the way through. It can get violent. Gory. Plus, Willem Dafoe definitely steals the show. This was one of his best roles in his career.

I’m actually thinking about re-watching this film on Netflix today. It’s still streamable I believe.

Film of The Day: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher version)

I think I remember picking this film as one of the best films of 2011, and I still stand by it. This is really quite the incredible flick. Based upon the famous novel by, Stieg Larsson. The Millenium Trilogy books has been pretty popular for years. Yes, these books were already made into Swedish films with Noomi Rapace, starring as Lisbeth Salander, but Fincher came along and started doing the American versions. I knew Fincher would do a great job directing “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”, from the very start.

It tells a story about a journalist named, Mikael Blomkvist, who helps a man to find his missing daughter, Harriet. Of course, Mikael couldn’t do the job alone, so he hired a young computer hacker to help him do the research. Mikael thought this young computer hacker, was just an ordinary girl, but he learns that she wasn’t because of her goth-like appearance.

Starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, I thought both of them delivered great performances. The entire cast did great, honestly. Trent Reznor once again gave this film a beautiful score. The story was pretty thrilling and it’ll leave you wanting more and more. This Lisbeth Salander is a pretty like-able character. There are some disturbing and graphic scenes in this film, but without them, then this Lisbeth Salander character wouldn’t have worked. What I was most impressed with the film is that this film stayed very faithful to the novel. It didn’t leave anything out at all, pretty much.

I’m a proud owner of this film on Blu-Ray, and it’s another one of those films, I can re-watch over and over. I hope David Fincher and Trent Reznor will still work together for the next two films, “The Girl Who Played With Fire”, and “Hornets Nest”. If you’re late on Fincher’s, “Dragon Tattoo”, and haven’t seen it. I would recommend it.

Film Of The Day: O Brother, Where Art Thou

The Coen Brothers made a lot of great flicks, but I think this is my favorite one. George Clooney is mostly known for starring in drama roles, but sometimes he likes to do a comedy film. When he does a comedy film, he will do a good job at it. I thought Clooney was real funny in this movie.

It tells the story of Everett Ulysses McGill, who escapes from a chain gang along with his friends, Delmar and Pete. The film is taken place in the 1930’s, and was based on Homer’s “Odyssey”. Everett wants to go back home so he can seek the treasure that maybe there but of course, they meet a bunch of strange people along the way, including the KKK, in which, they want to stop them from getting that treasure.

The reason this movie works perfectly ’cause the film was shot beautifully, the acting was well done by everybody. It was funny, and enjoyable. Lots of memorable scenes and funny catchphrases. Most importantly of all, it was the music. Lots of folk music being played throughout the film, and these are songs that you can sing all day yourself, most notably, songs such as “I’m a Man of Constant Sorrow”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “Go To Sleep Little Baby”, etc.

Yes, this is another one of those movies I would never get tired of watching. “I Don’t Want Fop, I’m a Dapper Dan Man”.

Report: Dave Batista lands huge movie role, he is Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”…

Look like former WWE star Dave Batista won’t be returning to the WWE anytime soon ’cause the man is heavily focused on MMA and acting in film. Dave’s film career is already taking off. He already had a role in “The Man With the Iron Fists”, and Dave just completed “Riddick 3”, with Vin Diesel. Now Dave has a huge role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and he will be playing Drax the Desroyer. There were a couple of other guys who auditioned for the role, such as Jason Momoa and a few others, but it seems that Marvel was most impressed with Dave, so he got it.

More on the story, here.

The Rock should take note,’cause look like we have another big former wrestler starring in some big movies. If they can get Dave in “Expendables 3”, that would be pretty cool too!

Dave has always been my favorite performer in wrestling too. He is a good actor. He didn’t get these acting jobs in movies for nothing ’cause the wrestling helped him get the acting talent. That’s how all wrestlers get into movies ’cause wrestling is acting.

Film Of The Day: Scarface (w/Al Pacino)

Time to do another favorite of mine. I love the movie, “Scarface”, the remake with Al Pacino, as Tony Montana. One of the baddest characters in cinema history. It’s also Brian Depalma’s best film. The story tells a man named, Tony Montana, who is being sent to the United States, after being one of the Cuban refugees after Fidel Castro opened the harbor in Mariel, Cuba. Tony and his friend, Manny worked regular day jobs and then they leave for criminal work. Later on, Tony takes over a drug cartel where he would get rich and make a living off of. Of course, while Tony is living the dream being rich, things go wrong.

This movie is full of hilarious catchphrases. Other than, “Say hello to my little friend”, Tony says way funnier stuff. Plus, the movie is badass. It’s a great action movie. Violent, nasty, and one of Pacino’s best roles. I’ll never get tired of this film. Ever.

Report: Universal finally moves forward with “Jurassic Park 4”, director is found…

Universal has been wanting “Jurassic Park 4”, to happen for a long while, but nothing has happened until now. “Jurassic Park III” was released in 2001, so it has been a long while for a new Jurassic Park film. A director by the name of Colin Trevorrow, is set to direct the fourth installment to, “Jurassic Park”. He is best known for directing the film, “Safety Not Guaranteed”. No plot details and no casting has been revealed as of this point.

Deadline, reports.

Okay, which leading character would return to this one? Will this film be written for Jeff Goldblum or Sam Neil to reprise their roles? Either way, one of them is expected to return for sure. Even better, I think both actors should appear on screen together for this one just like they did with the first one. It’ll be kind of cool to see those guys reunite finally ’cause Sam Neil wasn’t in “Jurassic Park 2”, Jeff Goldblum was. Sam Neil was in “Jurassic Park III”, Jeff Goldblum wasn’t.

With today’s technology in filming, you can expect them to take the Jurassic Park franchise to a whole new level. As for what I thought was the best Jurassic Park film was. I thought, “Jurassic Park III” was the best. I thought the first two weren’t that great, honestly, but the third one actually told a great story and it was a pretty thrilling movie too. I’m glad Spielberg is no longer directing these movies ’cause they seem to be good without him.

Spielberg seems to be staying away from family films lately ’cause he’s been doing too much historical drama stuff. Looking forward to seeing what they’re gonna do with Jurassic Park IV.

Film Of The Day: Mad Max (original, 1979)

Everyone loves a good revenge movie, but this is the best one. I love the original, “Mad Max”. It is also the best one of the trilogy. This is an apocalyptic and futuristic movie both at the same time. It tells the story about a cop who vows revenge on the biker gang who murdered his wife and son. Before the death of his wife and son, he was living a happy life, and when that was taken away from him, they gave him the name, Mad Max for a reason.

They don’t make action movies like this anymore. I love the young Mel Gibson too. He was really great back in those days! It really is a shame that Mel wants nothing to do with the Mad Max movies anymore, when Mel is still doing action movies to this day. I really think he has what it takes to play that character for one last time. I wish he would give it another shot. One of the coolest characters in action film. I love those old school action movies.

Film Of The Day: West Side Story

I’m not into musical movies that much, but you can’t go wrong with the “West Side Story”. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Love this movie too much. It’s about two New York City gangs who feud against each other, the Jets and the Sharks (led by Bernardo). Riff is the leader of the Jets, and his best friend/former Jets member, Tony, falls in love with Bernardo’s younger sister, Maria. Tony and Maria meet together secretly while the two gangs continue to feud.

The story is pretty intense, and it’s a pretty sad film, though. Most importantly, the songs in the film make the movie fun. I do have this movie on DVD, but thinking about replacing it with the BluRay sometime in the future. It is a classic and it’s an important film that everyone should have seen by now. I’m sure you may have seen it once during your school years for music class or whatever. That is how I was first introduced to the film, I think. I remember I kept borrowing the VHS from my teacher, when I was a kid, ’cause I loved it too much. STILL love the movie to this day. If you have never seen this yet, then you have no right to call yourself a lover of movies and Hollywood, I’m sorry, folks. It is also important that you should introduce this film to your kids ’cause it is part of an educational thing. They show this movie in schools for a reason.

RIP to Natalie Wood too.

Film Of The Day: Glengarry Glen Ross

Lets see here, we have Alec Baldwin, Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, etc. This movie was, “The Expendables” of the 90’s. A movie full of iconic actors. This film tells a story about a group of salesmen, who were given a strong incentive by a man named Blake, to succeed in a sales contest. A set of prizes are given, and only closers will get the good sales leads.

This has always been one of my favorite flicks. I’ve watched this film too many times. Mainly because of Alec Baldwin’s performance as Blake, the villain of the film. Alec Baldwin has always been the best at playing asshole characters in films, why? Because I believe that’s what he is in real life. Of course, Jack Lemmon’s performance is golden in this film and so is Al Pacino. They’re all great!

This film may be a slow pacing movie, but it’s the dialogue in the script that will make you addicted to it. The movie is full of swearing and cuss words throughout the film, but the story is what’s important. This film is streamable for Netflix. If you don’t own the DVD/BluRay, watch it on Netflix. You won’t be disappointed!

Film Of The Day: Big Trouble In Little China

This is one of my favorite old school action movies from the 80’s, “Big Trouble In Little China” starring Kurt Russell. Also, directed by John Carpenter. It’s an action movie and comedy both at the same time.It tells the story of a trucker named, Jack Burton, who agreed, to pick up Wang Chi’s fiance at the airport. Of course, she gets kidnapped by this man named Lo Pan because she has green eyes and he needs someone with green eyes, so he can regain his physical form. Jack also gets his truck stolen. So Jack, had no choice but to rescue this woman from Lo Pan, and try to get his truck back.

This film is what I call a classic, and it’s one of those movies that you must see, in order to call yourself a true movie buff. Everyone should know about this film, and if you haven’t, then you don’t know your movie history like you think you do. I think it’s one of Carpenter’s best films. It’s another one of those movies I can watch over and over, and never get tired of it. This movie is so entertaining. I really hope Hollywood doesn’t remake this flick, ’cause the film would be so hard to copy. Kurt is a badass in this one too. If you haven’t seen it, do so, soon!
