Many people probably didn’t know this but “Twilight” actor, Robert Pattinson is not just an actor, he is also a musician. He plays both guitar, piano and sings. He never had a career in music. According to internet web sources, Robert Pattinson has been spotted playing open mics and gigs in the UK. Pattinson finally revealed he wants to break into the music business and release an album.

Well, after all the fame and popularity with “Twilight”, you know the major record labels will indeed be interested in, Robert Pattinson. Not too worry Robert, I think you can do both movies and music easily with no problem. Just ask Rob Zombie, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, Harry Connick Jr.and Madonna who have done both.

Listen to Robert perform live in the video clips below. He actually sounds good.

Report: Billy Corgan thinks John Mayer is destroying his career…

Billy Corgan speaks out saying that he thinks, “John Mayer is destroying his own career”. Just by saying a bunch of stupid shit in Playboy, creating a public backlash and being a “celebrity” isntead of an actual “musician”, is what’s killing his career. Billy has nothing negative against John Mayer ’cause Billy says John is very talented musically, he says it’s hard to watch a talented musician burn their career to the ground. Billy says he knows from his own experience as he almost came close to burning the Smashing Pumpkins to the ground at one point.

More on it here:

I’m siding with Billy as always. He brings up a valid point. Honestly though, I think Billy is just trying to defend his friend, Jessica Simpson. Be honest, Billy, you’re totally in love with that woman. He just haven’t admitted to it in public yet.

Report: Phish to go 3D in April…they will hit the big screen in theaters, not the concert stage…

With all these 3D movies coming out in theaters, now the music world is jumping the 3D movie bandwagon! Phish will be releasing their 3 day Halloween festival they played at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The movie, “Phish 3D” will be released in theaters. Not sure if it’s going to be played everywhere or in selected theaters, but if it’s shown in Albany, I’ll see it. The Phish 3D movie will be released sometime in April.

Oh man, seeing a Phish Halloween concert in 3D would be very trippy! Looking forward to it!

BREAKING NEWS: Dream Theater and Iron Maiden to tour together this summer in the US!!!

This is a dream come true for metal and prog rock fans. Two legendary bands, Dream Theater and Iron Maiden are about to hit the road together for the first time this summer! Better than that, Dream Theater never performed at Madison Square Garden before and they finally get the opportunity. These are two bands that I have loved for a long time! It’s too bad these two bands aren’t stopping by in Albany but NYC is the closest we get to see the show. This is amazing news. I’d certainly would love to see the MSG show in NYC. This is a history making tour!

I’m probably gonna buy Iron Maiden’s new album, “The Final Frontier” too.

Cool Video: Dream Theater’s “Raw Dog” from “God of War III” soundtrack…

Here is the full track of Dream Theater’s new song exclusively released to the “God of War III: Blood & Metal” soundtrack only. Check it out. I’ve been a longtime fan of Dream Theater and this is the best they’ve ever been. It’s instrumental, so no vocals. I love the track.

Most video game soundtracks suck ass, but the video gaming industry finally made a good one.  The “God of War III” soundtrack includes bands from the prog and metal genres. It includes everyone from Dream Theater, Opeth, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, etc.

Check it out. Excellent musicianship in this song. Amazing guitar playing by John Petrucci.

Report: Black Sabbath trademark war gets the greenlight to the court room…

In May of 2009, Ozzy Osbourne filed lawsuit against guitarist Tony Iommi, both men who were members of the legendary metal band, Black Sabbath. Tony Iommi is currently full owner of the Black Sabbath band name, 100%. Ozzy is upset because he feels that all 4 members of the band (also includes Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) deserves part ownership of the name, “Black Sabbath”. The judge gives this lawsuit the “ok”, that means the war is on. This battle will go to the court room.

Things already gotten heated in the court room today as it sounds like Tony Iommi is not very happy with Ozzy ’cause Iommi’s lawyer is fighting back. Both Ozzy and Tony themselves weren’t in court today, their lawyers were. When the lawsuit proceeds to battle, maybe Tony and Ozzy will be in court personally?

Tony may own the band name, yes, but Ozzy helped him create the name. See how Ozzy would be upset? Ozzy wrote the song “Black Sabbath” for their debut album, they got the name from a horror film that starred Boris Karloff with the same title. So that’s proof that Ozzy came up with the name himself and the rest of the guys agreed to use it. Also, please try to understand that the four guys in Black Sabbath created a huge legacy over the years, that’s another reason that Ozzy feels every member deserves share of the name.

I’m totally siding with Ozzy. He’s so right. This is going to be quite the interesting war and I’ll be keeping an eye on it. I hope Ozzy wins. I’m sure he will.

BREAKING NEWS: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers reunite for new tour and album…

It’s been a long while since Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been together, hasn’t it? It’s been since 2002’s “The Last DJ” tour. The Heartbreakers will release a new album titled, “Mojo” sometime in the Spring. Their tour will start in May and will end in August. Supporting acts will include: Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, “Crosby, Stills & Nash”, My Morning Jacket, and the Drive By Truckers.

Since the Heartbreakers will be ending their tour near my hometown, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, which will be opened by “Crosby, Stills & Nash” that night, I think I’m gonna go to that one. I will definitely get Tom Petty’s new album as well, as I am a massive Petty fan.

Report: Sublime reunites but under a new name…

The surviving members of the 90’s hit band, Sublime, will reunite and go on tour. Only thing though, the guys will go under a new band name, called Sublime With Rome. Sublime With Rome already have several shows booked and expect a lot more on the way. Sublime decided to split because of the death of Bradley Nowell, the band’s original frontman. I’m sure Sublime with Rome will perform all of Sublime’s music that Bradley wrote with the band, including all their radio hits of course, with hit songs such as “Santeria”, “What I Got”, “The Wrong Way”, and more. Sublime is a band that mixed rock n’ roll with reggae and funk. Sublime With Rome, also plans to write new songs while on tour for a new album.

Billboard reports:

Very cool….and also very smart of the band to change the name without Bradley Nowell. While I love Alice In Chains, they should have done the same. Change the band name ’cause honestly, it isn’t AIC without Layne Staley.

Thought: About this Nickelback pickle thing…

The page that the young woman started, Coral Anne, the “Pickle” Nickelback facebook page was meant to be a page that is not supposed to be for hating on Nickelback. Plus, I don’t think that is really Chad Kroeger chatting with Coral Anne in e-mail in Facebook. Probably, just another one of her jokes. It was all meant to be for fun and humor. Kind of the like Mad Magazine or the Onion or something like that. The Nickelback haters think she’s using it for Nickelback hate but that’s not her vision with the page. I see her as a bored person wanting some fun in Facebook.

While so many music fans may hate Nickelback as well as I, do you think a band like Nickelback would care if so many people hate them online? No. They could give a rats ass. While so many don’t like their music, you can’t deny that they are a best selling band. And they do write a bunch of hits. In my eyes, when so many people hate a band or a certain solo artist, that is doing nothing but promoting their music even more. Giving the band more publicity. Like I sometimes say, sometimes bad publicity is great.

I’m sure the real Chad Kroeger would actually like the “Pickle” Facebook page. Honestly, I think he would be flattered by it. So don’t get the wrong idea that he would be upset by Nickelback hate on the internet, ’cause I think he would find all this entertaining. Yes, I am actually defending this band. I’m not a fan, I don’t like their music. They are successful. Like ’em or not.

I’m sure Chad would speak out on this “Pickle” stuff soon when he gets around to it, to squash rumours that he didn’t threaten to shut the page down and all that. Think about it, if Nickelback “sucked”, then they wouldn’t have gotten signed to a major label and constantly selling over millions of records. Saying they “suck” is just an opinion. I’m sure they still have some fans and supporters that still support them. That’s why they still do what they do.

He maybe egostitical, delusional and maybe an asshole, but who isn’t in the music industry these days? It seems that stuff is what music is all about. All musicians have egos whether national or local. Hell, I’ll admit that I have a huge ego at times! Nothing wrong with having an ego or delusional problem, right? That’s the name of the game with music and musicians have to deal with these things.
