Last Friday was Bowie’s birthday and today is his 6th year Anniversary death. I’ve been a long time Bowie fan ever since high school really. Over the years, I’ve tried to collect all of his albums and it took me a long time ’cause he has a large discography of albums… only need a few more left.
Some wonder what Bowie was like in the studio? After doing a lot of reading on him in his studio work over the years, I’ve read he was very nice. He wasn’t difficult to get along with but he kept everything honest, though. He knew what he was going for in his music. Did he write most of his own songs? Yes for the most part, I read he brought a lot of his own material but at the same time, he let his other guitar players and other musicians come up with their own stuff. If David liked their playing, he’ll take it into his songs. So in reality, it was both David and the musicians in his band wrote the music, they all wrote together really.
Not only that I like listening to Bowie music, I also loved reading about him too. I’ve read that if you actually got to meet Bowie in person, while he was pretty a nice guy, he’ll be very boring. He doesn’t like people fanboying over him and he was never one for autographs much, I think. He always stayed humbled and never saw himself as a rock star. He just wanted to live like a normal person and be a family man, ya know?
Bowie was a huge inspiration and influence into my own songwriting too, though… if you heard my original songs, you would probably hear a lot of Bowie influence.
I’ll never get tired of Bowie music ever. Initially, I just wanted to be a guitar player but the singing came after and it was Bowie that got me interested in singing myself after I picked up the guitar.
Bowie maybe gone but the music will never be. His art will always be around.
Jimmy Page is the reason why I do what I do, playing guitar and making music. I’ve always been a music lover but my interest in guitar playing myself didn’t pick up until I heard the music of Led Zeppelin. Once I discovered Led Zep, I knew I wanted to play guitar my whole life. I wanted to play rock guitar like Jimmy Page and if you ever wanted to know why my own guitar playing is always so tight and aggressive, well mostly because Jimmy Page inspired me to rock out like that.
I may like a lot of music out there but Led Zep will always be my no. 1.
Dec. 8th will always be a very important day for music simply for these 4 geniuses. I love all 4 of them. They may be gone but the music is not forgotten.
The Beatles spent a lot of time rehearsing and recording for their album “Let it Be”. There was a day when Paul McCartney invites his wife and his daughter to try and brighten up the band members after working so hard. I think Paul brought little Heather in to cheer the band up some.
There was a funny moment in the doc when little Heather witnesses Yoko doing those weird chants and even Heather looked a little freaked out.
A few minutes later, Heather wanted to join in with the Beatles so she excitedly walks up to John’s mic and John looks at her, nodded his head letting her know it’s “okay” for her to sing with the Beatles.
To be honest, Heather was more enjoyable to listen to than Yoko, lmao. I thought this was one of the cool moments in the doc. It was funny.
So last night, I finished watching “The Beatles – Get Back” documentary on Disney Plus. It’s a 3 part documentary directed and produced by Peter Jackson. Yes, that Peter Jackson the same guy who directed the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the “King Kong” remake. Well Peter Jackson has been working on this documentary for a long time and he finally finished it and it’s now out on Disney Plus exclusively.
As a big Beatles nerd myself, I’ve been looking forward to it and now I’ve just seen it. Watched Parts 1 and 2 over the weekend, just finished Part III last night.
What are my thoughts on this Beatles doc? I freakin’ loved it! It was very good and I was impressed with Peter’s directing style. It’s quite different than his movie making and honestly, I think Peter is way better at making music documentaries and I hope he does a few more of them on different bands.
Anyhow, “Get Back” really focuses on the making of the “Let It Be” album and its famous rooftop concert that the Beatles did. During the making of this album, the Beatles wanted to document all of it for a future TV special. The original goal of the Beatles for this project was that they wanted to write and rehearse 14 songs for an album and perform the 14 songs live and for a TV special. Later on, though, plans sort of changed when George Harrison briefly quit the band. They were unsure where to play those 14 songs so they suggested the rooftop of their own building at Apple studios.
So the Beatles went up there on the Apple rooftop and played for a little bit. The original plan was to play the 14 songs on the rooftop but they were only able to play a few of them on the roof ’cause the city people bitched to the cops about the noise so they had to stop the show. Since Paul McCartney was committed to playing the 14 songs, they finished the rest of them in the studio.
Why did the Beatles choose to play on the rooftop of Apple? There was no reason actually, they just simply wanted to. They just went up there and did it. Even the people in the city streets loved the Beatles playing up there, not everyone liked it ’cause like always there will always be complainers and whiners so they got the cops to get them to stop the show. Even though the Beatles got in trouble with the cops, it didn’t seem to bother them at all ’cause after all that the Beatles were all smiles and laughing so obviously they were very proud they did that.
Anyway, even though it seems like it may be fun to play in a band… it’s not as fun as you might think it is. Being in a band can be overwhelming and tough. It takes a lot to keep a band together and to try and get all members to get along which is what Paul McCartney tried to do. The Beatles didn’t always get along. As you watch this documentary, you will see some pretty heated arguments with members of the band.
After watching this doc, it made me get new profound respect for Paul McCartney ’cause he was never my favorite Beatle. George Harrison was always my favorite but now my respect for Sir Paul grew pretty massively. Paul is my favorite Beatle now. Paul is a real musician. He definitely knows what he is doing musically, he knows what all the notes and chords sound like. Paul plays every instrument too. He’s mostly known for playing his small Hofner bass guitar but he also plays electric guitar, bass, piano and drums. Plus, Paul has a killer singing voice too.
After watching this Beatles doc, makes me want to get more of Paul McCartney solo albums and the albums he did with Wings. I’m gonna start getting some of that stuff soon.
Anyway, it was an interesting doc and definitely the best rock documentary I’ve seen in a long while.
I’m listening to the Beatles “Let It Be” album as I type this and I’m trying to figure out why the album only has 13 songs when the goal was 14. That’s because one song was dropped from the album release, “Don’t Let Me Down”. It’s a shame ’cause it’s an incredible song and the best song out of the 14. It turned out that Phil Spector dropped the song from the album release. If you want to get the “Let it Be” album with the song “Don’t Let Me Down” on it, you would get the alternative version, The Beatles “Let It Be… Naked” ’cause the song is on there.
It’s interesting to see the Beatles rehearse ’cause all they do is clown around and laugh most of the time. The movie did have some comedic moments, though.
My only negative is that Yoko can be quite annoying with her awful singing ’cause she sometimes joins in with her annoying chanting or whatever she does.
Other than that, this was a really good doc. Yeah, I’m a Beatles nerd myself. I have most of their albums and trying to get them all with only 5 more to go.
Ya know, it’s funny that people in social media freaking out about the incident that happened at Astroworld. Ya know, the crowd surging that happened during Travis Scott’s set at his music festival that he put together himself. People are calling Travis Scott a bad man and blaming him for it all and blah blah blah blah, ya get the deal?
From what I’ve read about 8 or 9 people got killed during the “crowd crush” and many others sent to the hospital and having injuries. A lot of people hating on Travis Scott for this.
I’m seeing stuff that people are mad at him for not stopping the show but I read somewhere that he did pause the show a couple of times. The question is was all this Travis’s fault?
Hell to the fucking no…. absolutely not! I wish people would stop blaming Travis ’cause going to concerts is pretty dangerous for the most part. I would think when performing on stage for a huge festival would be difficult for an artist to see the crowd ’cause of the lightning and all that, ya know? It’s hard for the performer to see the crowd in front of the stage. It’s hard to see every little thing going on inside a crowd. That’s why there is security in front of the stage to take care of all that and to help keep the crowd under control when it gets rowdy.
Yeah, what happened at Astroworld was horrible and dangerous but it’s not the most dangerous concert people are freaking out about… you should think about what the Who went through when they did their Cincinnati concert in 1979. What about the Metallica/Guns N’ Roses concert in 1992 Montreal where James Hetfield burned his arm and there were fan riots and that concert was hell… what about the Rolling Stones free Altomont concert? How about the Great White 2003 West Warwick show hmmm??? I mean, Dimebag Darrell got shot and killed while he was playing guitar on stage. What about Woodstoock ’99 when all that rioting, looting and fire burning during the Chilli Peppers performance? Pearl Jam went through a few fan deaths themselves, I think.
There’s been way worse than Astroworld. I never heard Travis Scott’s music before but really stop blaming the guy. These things happen at concerts. Travis is just a performer, that’s what they are supposed to do!
Ya know, Tom Morello is right that he does reserve the right to be friends with whoever he wants. Yes, there is this thing called “agree to disagree” so what happened to that lately? They may have political differences but like Tom said, he’s not afraid to confront Ted about some stuff… I’m sure they try their best to keep politics away from music ’cause to me, that’s what they’re friendship is about “music”.
Why did they get together as close bros? Musical interests I would say… maybe their tastes in music is what got them together and also mutual respect is another reason. They just respect each others musical talents ya know? Tom thinks Ted is a great guitar player and Ted thinks Tom is a great guitar player.
It is completely okay for a die-hard conservative to be friends with leftist people. I’m a die-hard conservative myself, just so you know and I’ve had plenty of local musicians that were pretty leftist who refused to talk with me over “political differences”. Freakin’ bullshit if you ask me.
We definitely need this more in the musicians community…. musicians getting together despite the political differences. Politics isn’t everything, it’s about the music. It is possible to put politics aside away from music. It’s real sad to see that leftist musicians hating on conservative musicians and vice versa, it happens both ways.
Tom Morello is a very leftist guy yes but that man himself is also a badass guitar player, I admire his playing too.
While I’m a die-hard conservative admittedly, I do support plenty of bands & artists who are very leftist but I support them ’cause simply their music is good. It’s about the music, not about their political views. It’s definitely possible to keep politics separate from music. Try it sometime? It’s not healthy to live like that, hating on each other ’cause of political differences.
Anyhow, don’t be surprised if you see some kind of Ted Nugent and Tom Morello collaboration coming. I’m sure they already discussed that so maybe they’re waiting for the right time? You know they’re gonna end up doing something musically.
Ted Nugent, a legendary rock musician who had one helluva career in his younger years. He maybe most well known for his anthems “Stranglehold” and “Cat Scratch Fever” but Ted has many hit songs then those.
No matter what your political views are, you can not deny that Ted is a monster guitar player. He used to be all over the main stream in the earlier days but he’s still doing pretty well for himself today. He’s still going… putting out studio records and touring. Although Ted has had another lead singer in his solo band, he is totally capable of singing lead himself which he is also pretty good at.
I think Ted was totally blacklisted from the music industry… why? Probably because for a couple of reasons: 1) His hardcore “right-wing” views 2) His strong support for the NRA and for the 2nd Amendment and 3) His love for hunting and killing animals (they give him so much shit for that too).
Some clues that Ted was blacklisted from the industry: Not in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame when he absolutely should be, not on covers of music magazines and guitar mags, doesn’t get booked for any big festivals, never was a musical guest for Saturday Night Live and I can go on and on.
He has been on late night talk shows like Letterman in his earlier years
Anyhow, for many years the mainstream media likes to try and make Ted to be this bad man when he isn’t really. He seems like a good guy to me. When I hear him talk, he’s almost always pretty positive and humble from what I hear. He’s not that outspoken like people wanna believe.
I admire Ted and always been a fan myself. I only have two albums by him though but plan on getting more of his music when I get around to it.
It may seem like Ted is the most hated guy but in reality, he’s actually the most respected… he is most respected in the right-wing community anyways but lefties can’t stand him.
Ted is a monster musician who deserves more respect. It’s about his music… not his political views. It’s okay to keep music and politics separate is there? There are plenty of bands & music artists that I love who are very “leftist” but I support ’em anyways ’cause it’s about the music, ya know? Politics isn’t everything. The point of this blog post is that I wish he would be more respected for his music.
Anyhow, “Stranglehold” is a monster song and I’m trying to learn it myself so I can cover it on video which will happen soon.
If you head on over to Led Zeppelin’s official facebook page, today they dropped a few Led Zeppelin live performances performing different songs in their entirety… not just small clips.
They dropped “Bring It On Home”, “Dazed and Confused”, “I Can’t Quit You Baby” and “Since I’ve been Loving You”.
If you want to know why I’m such an obsessive Led Zeppelin fan then that’s why. It was about their live performances. I love listening to Led Zep’s studio albums, sure but it’s their live stuff is what I love the most about the band.
I don’t understand why some don’t like Led Zeppelin and yes, they do have their share of haters believe it or not. They are either insane or deaf or a little bit of both but I always found the band amazing.
Why is Led Zep releasing older live performances? Are they releasing a new live album, maybe? Doesn’t look like it, I think it’s because they’re just celebrating the band’s history probably to help bring more hype to their upcoming “Becoming Led Zeppelin” documentary they got coming out. That’s probably what it is, I bet.
Man, I can’t stop listening to the new Iron Maiden album that just came out, “Senjutsu”. It’s a really impressive album and I think it’s the best new album the band has done so far. I bought the album digitally on the day it came out Friday Sept. 3rd of this year and listened to it like 4 or 5 times ever since.
I must say that it’s a very risky and ballsy album for the band to do ’cause it’s a very different album then anything else they’ve done in the past. The songs are a lot more mellower and different but they still sound like Iron Maiden and there are still chuggy metal riffs and impressive galloping all over it. There’s still plenty of metal on it even though it’s different.
As always, there’s still some pretty impressive guitar harmony playing with three players playing different things on top of each other. Adrian, Dave and Janick are the players on the new record still and they still bring it.
The album clocks in at over 80 minutes and they save the longest songs ’til last. I don’t mind listening to long songs ’cause I’m used to it after listening to bands like Led Zep, Dream Theater and Rush who are also obsessed with writing long songs. I don’t mind long songs ’cause I write long songs myself. To be honest long songs don’t seem that long to me ’cause of the pacing. Long songs can feel like short songs if that makes sense.
Bruce Dickinson’s singing still sounds killer on this record too. Not bad for a guy who is 63 and just curing himself of cancer and all that. He’s sounding better than ever now. He can still hit the high notes as well.
I’m a longtime Iron Maiden fan and trying to collect more of their albums… at least I’m trying to get all the Dickinson stuff anyways ’cause I know he wasn’t the only singer in the band.
I really liked “Senjutsu” a lot and probably gonna buy the vinyl version of that album sometime in the future. It’s definitely way different than their previous album “The Book of Souls”.
If you’re a metal fan you should definitely check this album out. Loved it!
