Should I continue to write dark & evil songs??? Not so sure…

The reason I wanted to change my songwriting direction to a more positive/family friendly direction ’cause I didn’t want to be too obsessed with writing dark and controversial songs. I really wanted to cut back on this stuff and kind of wanted to try something different, ya know? I grew tired of writing dark songs. I wanted to see what kind of reaction I get with the positive songs. I don’t want to get too obsessed with writing dark songs or else people are gonna start accusing me of being satanic, hating god, and life. You get the deal, right? Sometimes my dark material were pretty questionable and people have asked me about them. Do you think it was easy for Black Sabbath to get accepted? No way. Back in the day, Black Sabbath w/Ozzy struggled to get recognition and fame ’cause they scared the shit out of everyone with their music. It took them YEARS for them to be finally accepted in the music industry.

I could continue to write dark songs if I wanted to but I was afraid that people would see me in a wrong way, you know what I mean? Maybe writing dark songs won’t be a problem. Sometimes controversy helps get you more recognition. If the dark songs is what helped me get heard more musically, then maybe I will continue to write dark songs. I will continue to write positive songs too, I’ll mix it up.

Most of my dark songs are purely fictional anyway. They were just horror stories told by song. “Evil Fred” wasn’t the only horror story in a song. There were several others: “The Boneyard”, “The Nightmare Has Begun Today”, and maybe some others I can’t think of them right now.

For now, I just wanna focus on more positive songs.

In response to some stupid Marilyn Monroe meme…

1501693_10152172821724113_566469164_n

This facebook  meme attacking Marilyn Monroe is totally misinformed just like most facebook memes are bullshit and misinformed. It’s true that she was a drug addict/alcoholic and it’s true that she have had affairs with married men and stuff but all of her quotes that you see getting posted by women in facebook… all those Marilyn quotes aren’t really made up. Some of them maybe made up but most Marilyn quotes were taken from a lot of her interviews that she did in the past.

Love Marilyn or hate her, she still has adoring fans to this day. Not just women… men like her too. Marilyn may have had a difficult life but that doesn’t give you the right to judge and hate her. I don’t get all the Marilyn hate. People shouldn’t be judgmental of Marilyn when Elvis Presley was no different, ya know? Elvis was an addict on pills & alcohol too, and he too had affairs with married women numerous times. Still, people act like Elvis is king and they have no problem with his personal troubles.

Women still look after Marilyn ’cause her life inspires them in a way. Maybe Marilyn’s life reminds them of their own. They look after Marilyn ’cause she wants people to be happy and live a positive life. She inspires women to be strong. The same with Janis Joplin. Janis was nothing but a junkie and people respected her anyway.

I don’t get all the Marilyn hate. I’m a huge Marilyn fan and don’t feel ashamed for it either. Her life and career was inspiring to people especially her films which were more important.

She may have died years ago, yes but people just wanna help keep her legacy alive and that’s what this is all about. Anybody who treats Marilyn in  a negative direction, I’ll always defend her no matter what so don’t even try.

Book Review: “Undisputed Truth” by Mike Tyson

I finally finished reading “Undisputed Truth” by “Iron” Mike Tyson aka the Baddest Man on the Planet and world heavyweight boxing champion!

This is a tell-all book by Mike Tyson but it’s not your typical tell-all book like all the others. In most tell all books written by famous celebrities most of them are like, “Please don’t misunderstand me… now hear my story.”. In this book, it’s not like that at all. In this book Tyson doesn’t play the innocent victim. This book explains the life and career of one of the greatest fighters in the world. It explains his childhood all the way up to today.

In this book, Tyson explains all of the bad things he has done in his life. Everything from being a burglar, drug addict, sex addict, alcoholic, egomaniac, etc. You name it… Tyson explains all that stuff. He even talked about the rape controversy w/ Desiree Washington. In this book, he says he didn’t rape that woman and I believe him. Just a woman trying to get fame and money off of him.

When you read this book, I’m sure you’re going to expect this book to be more about boxing than anything else. Well, there are a lot of boxing stuff on here, of course. He goes into detail with a lot of his fights and he explained the story of how his first trainer/manager Cus D’Amato made him out to be. It was Cus who taught him how to be a tough guy and to be champion. This book was more about life than boxing, though.

In this book, Tyson wanted to be more open about all the mistakes he made in the past and talked about how he went from bad man to good man. He talked about the street fight with Mitch Green and ear biting incident with Evander Holyfield. Tyson explained the reason he bit Holyfield’s ear at the ppv (which I did see on TV back in the day, btw, I saw both Tyson/Holyfield fights on ppv, I’ll never forget ’em both) ’cause he was upset with Holyfield’s headbutting. Tyson/Holyfield didn’t get along back in the day but they’re friends now, I believe. They buried the hatchet publicly on the Oprah show. He talked about all of his past controversies even the tragic death of Exodus — his daughter — is in there too.

This book is more about learning life and learning how to be a better person. Tyson felt guilty and depressed about his past that he wanted to turn his life around for the better. No matter what you think of Iron Mike, love him or hate him, he’s an inspiring guy. He wanted to clean himself up from drugs and get sober. He also wanted to get rid of his sex addiction with women. He did all of that successfully with the help of his wife Kiki. Tyson explained that the reason for the change was that his appearance in “The Hangover” and the death of Exodus made him want to become a better person.

Everybody wants to look at Tyson as a jerk and some egomaniac rich guy but in my opinion, I think he was neither of those. Tyson was never all that rich. Tyson may have been rich during his time in boxing but he gave all his money away and blew it all on drugs, alcohol and women. For the most part, Tyson was broke for most of his life so he didn’t really care about money. He admitted it in his book too.

I can understand how people want to think Tyson as some egomaniac and jerk ’cause of his controversial past but come on, people. Give him a chance. What he did to change his life around… that is worthy alone to be forgiven. And like I said before, Tyson didn’t play innocent victim at all in his book. He knows how badly he treated people. He even felt bad about biting Holyfield’s ear and wished he never did it. He regretted everything he did in the past. So for all these things he’s been doing lately: movie appearances, broadway shows, the book, etc. These things are just his way of trying to make his life better.

This was a pretty powerful and addicting book. I couldn’t put it down. It maybe a long read but worth it. I used to never be a fan of Tyson back in the day like most but after seeing him trying to change his life around… made me respect him a lot more and now I am a fan of his. He’s quite an interesting guy.

Even the White House says the Constitution protects free speech like I’ve been saying…

In response to a petition to kick Jimmy Kimmel off of his show for saying something offensive about China, the White House addressed this issue and said:

“”The Federal government cannot force ABC to remove this show,” a statement from the White House read. “The First Amendment of the Constitution protects free speech, even if individuals might personally find it offensive or distasteful. It may be upsetting when people say things we might personally disagree with, but the principle of protected free speech is an important part of who we are as a nation.

There you have it, folks. Straight from the White House in a direct response to a Jimmy Kimmel petition. In what was quoted above, they didn’t make claims that the 1st Amendment protects you from government interference. They made a pretty clear point that the 1st Amendment is here for us all.

While Freedom of Speech rights is dying in this day and age only very few celebrities survive it. Glad Jimmy isn’t going through what Phil Robertson and Evander Holyfield is going through. So congrats to Jimmy. He got lucky on this one!

EDIT TO ADD: I forgot to add that as long as you don’t say anything bad about gay people, you get to have your freedom of speech rights, damn liberals!!!! Damn ’em all to hell!!!!

Why are people offended by all the nudity in the show “Girls”? I don’t get it???

I don’t understand why people are getting offended and complaining about the nudity in the HBO show, “Girls”, which is a show created by Lena Dunham and Judd Apatow. I find it hypocritical and weird that people would complain about the obsession of nudity in that show when there is nudity all over shows like, “Game of Thrones”, “True Blood”, “Dexter”, etc. You name it… there are naked women all over them. I don’t understand the controversy with the nudity of “Girls”.

My guess as to why people are complaining about the nudity of “Girls” is because the women in the show are pretty young and most of the girls in that show aren’t supermodel types either. I also believe that show “Girls” doesn’t use body-double. When those young women get naked on the show, “Girls”, they are normal girls. You aren’t gonna see plastic looking women with breast implants and you aren’t gonna see airbrushing either. Maybe that’s why people are getting mad at the show ’cause the women aren’t perfect. What you see is what you get.

I haven’t watched much of “Girls”. I did watch most of the first season but haven’t yet seen the second. I’m thinking of buying the DVD sets soon so I can catch up with the show.

I respect the show ’cause what they’re doing takes a lot of guts. In my opinion, Lena shouldn’t give up the nudity ’cause other people don’t like it. If other people don’t like it and are offended by it, they’re doing something right. They should keep the nudity going and keep offending people. As long as the show is creating controversy, they are successful at what they do and the nudity helps draws in more ratings.

If Lena wants to show off her naked body for the whole world to see… more power to her. The thing that this show proved is that Lena is pretty confident in her sexuality and not afraid to show-off even if her body is not so hot. She’s very comfortable with herself. Nothing wrong with that. If she wants to be naked in front of the camera all of the time, that’s her business. It’s clear she doesn’t mind getting naked in front of people and that’s what makes her awesome.

I think she’s a gorgeous woman, by the way. I think I would totally date her myself. I think all the Lena hate is just jealousy. Nothing more.

Yes, I’m still doing the bodybuilding even throughout the Winter…

A lot of people mistakenly do bodybuilding and fitness on and off. Many only do it through the Spring/Summer. Some take the Winter season off from working out. Not with me, though. For the past 4 or 5 years I’ve been doing bodybuilding, I’ve been going all year round non-stop. That’s how you wanna do it, ya know? If you wanna be in the best shape of your life, you have to go all year round with little breaks. I only take a couple of weeks off a year — not too much. No lie either.

I’m lifting heavier on everything now and feeling great. I can do 210 lbs on the leg press for 4 sets and 15 reps. Legs feel weird walking around but it’s awesome.

Someday, I’ll show off my leg-work when I’m ready. I’ll have to wear nothing but boxers or bikini briefs for that photo, though. I’m not trying to be an underwear or a shirtless model or anything but why hide what you got, ya know? What’s the point of being fully clothed and hiding everything after all that work in the gym? You don’t wanna waste all that hard work and show it off to everybody. It maybe an ego or attention seeking thing sure but anything to get other people motivated. If you’re proud of your body and how it’s going in the gym, don’t be afraid to show off.

That’s what bodybuilding is about. It’s the name of the game. If you go into the gym and you still refuse to show off what you got, then what’s the point of working out? It doesn’t matter if you’re fat or skinny.

Be proud of your success and make other people mad and jealous. That’s what it’s all about.

Maybe I do have what it takes for a big career in music… don’t know…

I know some people out there want me to pursue this dream… go after a big career in music. Ya know… constantly gig a lot, playing the big shows, and bigger stages and all that stuff. Maybe even get signed to an indie label or something like that. All that stuff would be kind of cool, admittedly. The only problem with that is, all that stuff requires a lot of traveling and I don’t drive. I’m gonna hopefully work on getting my license soon.

I could pursue a career like that… kind of like what EBJ is doing but other than that, I’m just not taking myself too serious. I’m just enjoying life and enjoying myself playing music.

However, it is possible to get big and well-known over the internet. The internet is a big-deal these days so I could focus on being an internet-only musician which is part of why I wanna do the internet album and live-stream show. You can do some pretty cool and creative things with the internet to get yourself known as an artist.

How do you think Justin Bieber and all those youtube musicians get so big and popular? It is possible to get big over the internet.

I would like a big career in music but I’m not too worried about it. It would be awesome to perform the big theater stages and arenas, though. An indie career could be possible but I just like playing music for the love of it. I’m not that desperate for it, ya know?

I’ll just keep playing the music and see what happens. That’s all I can say.

More on “Evil Fred”…

I’ve been rehearsing the song, “Evil Fred” all day. Haven’t performed the song in a long time so I need more practice on it. I rewrote the lyrics to the song some so it can sound a little more sense and the re-write is 10x’s darker than the original version. I don’t want to upload this video performance until the vocals are perfect. After performing this song too many times at gigs, I’ve realized that this song is a bit of a challenge for me. I’ve changed the finger picking style of the song around a little bit.

I think it’s amazing that my loyal supporters still like this song to this day. That’s part of why I’m bringing it back. I’m hoping this video could go viral in youtube ’cause the lyrics might be more “controversial”.

My longtime supporters may already know the song but there are so many out there that still haven’t heard it. I’m hoping to put this song out there in a big way.

I know I was gonna stay away from dark & controversial songs but sometimes I can’t help it. Gotta write what comes to my head and give whatever makes the song work. I’ll keep pushing this song out there. I may get tired of it but as long as the fans like it and if that is what it’s gonna take for me to get recognition, I’ll make the song big again.

My original song, “Evil Fred”…

This song has always been one of my most popular songs. My original song, “Evil Fred” that I wrote sometime back in 2005/2006. I’ve always looked at that song as my anthem. That song was and still is my “Stairway To Heaven” if you know what I mean. Back in the old myspace days, I think the song got somewhere around 1,000 – 5,000 plays can’t exactly remember but it was somewhere around there. Whenever live versions of the song surfaces youtube, the song would get a decent number of views there. I remember years back when I performed for a local TV music show (the whole performance is in my youtube account, youtube Kev Brock “Groovin’ On”) and I performed several songs on it. Only one song was going to get selected to be aired for local TV and what song ended up getting picked? You betcha it was, “Evil Fred”. If you have talked to other musicians and ask them what their favorite Kev Brock song is, chances are they are gonna say “Evil Fred”. Sometimes other supporters still talk to me about that song to this day. “Evil Fred” even got mentioned when I won one of the Metroland Best Of’s years ago.

With that being said, I really shouldn’t give up the song. I just get so tired of it, ya know? Played it at every single gig of mine in the past. I don’t see how bands and artists put up with playing the same songs at every gig. I always liked to switch it up some.

I shouldn’t give up on a song that helped made me what I am and if I keep pushing the song out there, “Evil Fred” could help make me an even bigger artist than before — I’m not trying to sound egotistical here.

If I recorded a home video of me performing it on youtube… it has the potential to be big there and might go “viral”. That’s why I never recorded a home video of me performing that song for youtube ’cause the song is very special to me. I think I’m gonna post a video of me performing “Evil Fred” on a home video for youtube. Could the song get a million views or over?

I’ve been messing around with “Evil Fred” for the past couple of days trying to make the song a little different. Now that I can sing a little better, I could probably sing it better vocally too.

I’ll bring my older hits back for the upcoming internet album that I’ve been planning. My older original songs are pretty popular as well like “Mr. Tough Guy”, “Time Bomb”, “The Dark War”, etc. It’s just that “Evil Fred” is my biggest song. I maybe getting real tired of these songs, I shouldn’t leave them behind.

I still wanna write a bunch of new songs too, though. I gotta move forward and not backwards, ya know?

People today may have forgotten about “Evil Fred” and most people today haven’t even heard the song yet. I’m about to bring that song back in a huge way.

I don’t know how I came up with the song. It just came to me. That’s the first original song that I wrote where I did finger style guitar on. I wanted to write an original song about a serial killer on the loose… kind of like a Black Sabbath thing. Black Sabbath was an inspiration for the song as well. I wanted the song to be dark and scary.

I’ll bring it back soon in a youtube video of me performing it and I’ll re-record the song in garageband and make it “downloadable” for everyone.
