Guitar Hero 5 tracklisting announced…

Activision unleashed the tracklisting for the upcoming, “Guitar Hero 5”. The game features Shirley Manson as a character as she will be singing, “Only Happy When It Rains”, the Garbage hit for the game.

I’m impressed they included Megadeth’s “Sweating Bullets”. I also liked how they put one of my favorite songs of all time Rammstein’s “Du Hast”. Dire Straits, “Sultans of Swing” and Johnny Cash’s, “Ring of Fire”? Elton John even makes his Guitar Hero debut, this is the first time the Rocket Man has been in a Guitar Hero game.

See the list here:

I’m probably going to get this one.

Report: David Byrne slams U2’s world stadium tour…you must read this…

The former Talking Heads frontman, David Byrne, speaks out about the U2 world stadium tour that the Irish Rock band is currently doing.

David explains that all them huge stadium shows have to be the most expensive concerts ever with trucks bringing equipment in, band setup, soundcheck, stagelight settings, etc. Think how all that would cost. Then he says that all that work and spending is a bit overkill, when there are starving kids in Africa.

NME reports:

http://www.nme.com/news/david-byrne/46359

While I am a fan of U2, I’m going to have to agree with Mr. Byrne here. Sorry, Bono…if Bono really was serious about saving the world, and saving the hunger for the children in Africa as he claims, he would be spending his band’s money on all that, not for the stadium gigs.

The children in Africa are probably wondering why Bono is over here wasting money touring when he should be over there buying them food. Nope. Doesn’t happen.

Come on Bono, “Get on your boots” and get off your ego.

Michael Jackson was murdered by his doctor?

That’s what all the news sources have been saying, that MJ was murdered by his doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray. I’m actually believing it that MJ was murdered. Before his death, there were plenty of time to save MJ’s life but the idiot doctor just let him die. The Dr. was probably after MJ for the fame and money, so he fueled MJ’s addiction to those drugs reported on TMZ.

I hope this doctor would be caught and be arrested, be brought to justice.

Report: Elton John and Billy Joel postpones Albany, N.Y. “Times Union Center” show due to Billy feeling ill…

Elton John and Billy Joel were forced to postpone their Times Union Center show in Albany, N.Y. Don’t worry, Rocket Man and Piano Man fans, the duo vows to play for us in the Capital District, and they will reschedule. Billy Joel became sick by having flu-like symptoms.

The Associated Press reports:

Just goes to show that these two are really good guys. Glad they didn’t cancel it out for good. They love music and they want to perform for us in our local area.

When will Elton and Billy ever collaborate on a studio album together with new songs? Since they toured together so many times, they never made music together in the studio yet. I think that will happen. Hopefully. Would be great if Elton and Billy wrote music together.

Report: Phish is to play at the Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs right after their SPAC show…

It maybe hard to believe, but this is true. News are swirling the web of the local news that Phish maybe playing a show at the Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs, right after their SPAC show on Aug. 16th.

Will Trey Anastasio actually be there at the Parting Glass? Keep in mind Trey lived around Saratoga Springs during his drug rehab here. So Trey probably knows Saratoga Springs pretty well.

The show is booked as Gordon Stone band to play there, but it is possible that Phish members should show up and jam. Maybe other members of Phish will show up and not Trey. Who knows, anything is possible. Trey could show up.

Didn’t get to go backstage at SPAC to meet Phish? Well, here’s your chance to get up close to the band without backstage passes at the Parting Glass, this could be your chance to meet Trey Anastasio in person for an autograph or a picture taken or even have a few beers with Trey!!!

More on it here:

http://blog.timesunion.com/saratogaseen/2305/2305/

I’m pretty sure there’s a good chance of Trey Anastasio heading out to the Parting Glass after the SPAC show. Trey lived here for quite a long while, so I don’t see why not.

Since I got tickets to the SPAC show for Phish and I’m going, I might think about the Parting Glass show, too. Don’t know.

Report: Star Wars: The movie series, Star Wars: The Animated series, Star Wars: The Live action TV series, and now Star Wars: The concert tour?

George Lucas maybe done with the 6 Star Wars films, but his huge ego lately is doing whatever it takes to keep Star Wars going.

Lucas has done “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” the animated movie, then he’s planning an animated series and live action TV series both at the same time. Now he is planning a concert tour?

Yep, you hear that right. There will be an orchestra and choir playing the music from all of the Star Wars movies created by legendary composer, John Williams. The C-3po actor, Anthony Daniels will be at these tours to host them and to narrate them. He won’t be out wearing the golden robot suit.

The Associated Press reports:

George’s obsession with Star Wars is getting even stronger! He’s gotta make a living somewhere since he won’t be successful doing anything outside of Star Wars!

Report: It’s “Weird Al” Yankovic vs. James Blunt…

James Blunt is defnitely no fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic. Does Mr. Blunt have a sense of humor? Apparently not.

Al Yankovic asked Mr. Blunt by e-mail for permission if Al could include his parody, “You’re Pitiful” for Al’s next greatest hits album. Guess what? Blunt managers fired an e-mail back to Al Yankovic, ordering Al to not include the song on any future greatest hits album.

Flashback, Blunt once allowed Al to parody the song and make a video for it, for the song “You’re Beautiful”…but Blunt wouldn’t allow Al to put the parody on any of his studio albums.

Al Yankovic, the man himself, isn’t happy about this…as he is all over his Twitter page, complaining about James Blunt’s actions, he’s all over his twitter page making fun of James.

http://twitter.com/ALyankovic

While it isn’t the copyright laws to parody someone else’s work, it’s completely legal, Al is respectful to other musicians work so Al wouldn’t get sued by other songwriters. So Al is very careful about choosing songs to parody.

I think James Blunt has always been a douche bag…so Al should pay no mind to him. James is the one being the prick here…he should be happy that Al respects James Blunt’s songwriting but nope. It’s all ego. James the egomaniac, he thinks he’s too good for “Weird Al” Yankovic.

And congrats to Al on 20th Anniversary of “UHF”. 20th Anniversary edition DVD of “UHF” coming? Maybe a sequel to the movie, “UHF”? Come on, Al, make a “UHF”, sequel. It deserves one. 🙂

Report: Metallica, Springsteen, Eric Clapton, u2, Stevie Wonder and more to perform at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concert!!!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is putting on a huge 25th Anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City for two nights on October 29th/30th.

Metallica has been booked to share the stage with U2, Eric Clapton and Aretha Franklin on Oct. 29th. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will hit the stage with Stevie Wonder, Simon and Garfunkel, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.

More on it here:

http://www.metallica.com/index.asp?item=602461

Since Crosby, Stills and Nash has booked as “and friends”, they’re probably going to jam with other famous musicians, assuming Neil Young will be there to reunite with them. Crosby, Stills and Nash didn’t reunite with Neil Young at Glastonbury 2009, but maybe they will at this show.

Yep, you can betcha there probably will be a huge Michael Jackson tribute at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Hall of Fame show, because simply put, Michael Jackson was a Hall of Fame inductee back in 2001. Maybe Metallica will cover “Beat It” again like they did at that one Grammy awards show but they’ll play the whole song next time.

James Hetfield singing “Beat It”? It may sound silly, but I think he can nail it perfectly with no problem.

I’m sure all the Hall of Famers would gather around on stage together to jam on some kind of Michael Jackson song together, lets hope they don’t sing, “We are the World/Heal the World”. I think “Beat It” would be the best choice for the Hall of Famers to jam on tributing MJ, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Thought: The never ending MJ news coverage…reality check time again…

Whenever I discuss Michael Jackson with other people, whether it’s online or to someone in person, the first thing I hear from them is, “I’m sick of the MJ coverage, there are more important things to worry about”. I get that a lot. If you really think that you’re sick of MJ and if you think there are better things to worry about out there, that just shows that you know nothing about music that you all think. Sorry, but it’s true.

Let me explain again on how MJ makes the news like crazy everytime something controversial happens to his life. I will also explain how famous musicians become icons and legends, and to explain how they attract the media… the truth may hurt, but it needs to be explained. You ready for this?

Lets start by saying that, when a musician becomes famous…gets signed a record deal…sells millions of records…going platinum, being all over the billboard, winning a handful of awards at award shows, being tabloid friendly…that’s how a musician becomes a well known icon. A musician is considered a legend if you’ve been into the music business for like over 20 years or longer. It could happen to any musician not just MJ.

Michael Jackson has been in the music business for the major label industry ever since he was 10 years old. He pretty much lived his entire life on fame and fortune. So that means he was pretty much born into the world of fame.

You see, it doesn’t really matter if you like or hate that certain legendary musician…love ’em or hate ’em…it could be anybody like Prince, Madonna, Neil Young, Springsteen, Elton John, etc. who ever it is. As long as you are paying attention to what they are doing in their careers, it is you that made them the most powerful person on this planet.

Since they are well known people, the news media writes about them everywhere to help attract more TV ratings and more website views. Even if you’re not a fan of that legendary musician and not buying their records, you still helped them become big in some way. Talking trash and being negative about a legendary musician is what helps make their news spread. Controversy helps make a musician get more popularity. Negativity toward a musician sells.

I’ve said it once before in a past blog that if Madonna, Ozzy, Elton John, Mick Jagger or Bono of U2 ever dies one day in the future, they will get non stop media coverage too just like MJ. Why? It’s because they are legendary icons.

Why did the media ignore Farrah Fawcett’s death when MJ died the same day? Hmmmm…while Farrah is a legend, not everybody knows who she is, that is probably why. How come Billy Mays didn’t get that much coverage? Probably because MJ is bigger.

When Ozzy dies someday, do you think the Prince of Darkness will get massive media coverage way worse than Michael Jackson? You can betcha that will happen for sure.

The reason people get sick of Michael Jackson death news is I believe, we aren’t used to seeing a world icon dying, when we haven’t had a huge musical legend die in a long time. I believe the last big music legend that died that everybody knows, was either James Brown or Bo Didley. We had a lot of famous musicians died, yes, but they weren’t big legendary icons.

As long as a musician is a huge legend, they will get non stop media coverage, doesn’t matter if you’re a fan or a hater. The more you pay attention to them, the bigger they will get. TMZ will never stop posting about MJ ’cause it drives traffic to their site.

The news media is never going to stop writing about these legendary musicians, it’s not only they attract TV ratings and more website views…it’s just that these news reporters are too obsessed with writing about fame. These news reporters are loving the attention they are writing about someone that is a well known figure all over this world.

If you were a true music lover, then you would understand why icons and legends gets media coverage. It’s how they market their careers and promote their music.
