the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’s…a new band that I find great…

Knowing that I hate today’s music so much in the national industry, there are only very few mainstream artists that I like. Now you can add, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to the list. They would be styled as punk rock, sometimes mixed in with dance and electronica.

Most female fronted rock bands suck so much. I find the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to be very talented musicians and songwriters, I’m impressed with their music so much and they are great live stage performers too. I’ve been recently seeing them live on TV through late night talk shows and other music TV stations.

Karen O is a good front woman, she has a good voice for a rock band. Good looks and a talented on stage performer. They are a famous major label band that resides in New York City. So if they ever play shows around here like at Spac or the Palace Theatre, I’d spend my money to see them for sure. Consider me a new fan of this great band and I’ll pick up their latest CD soon. If you like what you see in the video below, watch the rest of the stuff they have in the band’s youtube account.

Report: Jimmy Page, a huge Jack White supporter…Led Zep guitarist comes out to see the Dead Weather…

Jack White must be out of his friggin’ mind when he realizes that a huge legend like Jimmy Page supports him. Jimmy has always said great things about Jack White through his band with the White Stripes and other projects.

Jack White’s latest band, The Dead Weather, which he plays drums for…Jimmy Page came out to see the band’s debut show at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles. Jimmy Page just doesn’t support himself and Led Zeppelin’s music, it’s been well known for years that Jimmy Page supports other musicians.

Here’s thinking that Jimmy and Jack may collaborate on an album together sometime in the future?

Report: Now the Police is no more, Sting is back to solo…

Since the Police called it quits and finally retired from the music business not too long ago, Sting is back to doing what he was doing before. Being a solo artist.

He will release a new solo album this Fall titled, “If On a Winter’s Night…”. It’s not really a Christmas album, it’s an album that will be Winter themed songs. The songs are mostly traditionals, carols, lullabies from the British Isles. Sting also wrote two original songs himself for the album.

Sting reveals that his favorite time of the year is Winter and he loves the outdoors around that time. Sounds like he loves Winter so much that he is not afraid of the freezing cold. That’s cool though. Some people are different. Some people really do hate the hot weather in the summer, and prefer the cold more.

In response to article about Weird Al’s homage to the Doors…

Read this:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10265362-36.html

I agree that the music of the song itself is very dead on with the Doors. Al Yankovic’s vocals is surprisingly almost close to Jim Morrison, but I think there is a reason that Al’s lyrics aren’t the same as Jim’s styles.

I think there is a legal reason for it. Al respects other people’s work legally and takes it very seriously. Maybe Al didn’t parody one of the Doors songs because Ray Manzarek wouldn’t allow it, for a legal reason. Maybe Al didn’t copy Jim’s writing style because Mr. Manzarek wouldn’t allow it. So I believe it was Ray himself that suggested Al to write something new and different for a Doors homage. I bet it was Ray himself that instructed Al how to perform this song in the studio.

Why would Al want to copy Jim Morrison’s writing style anyways? I wouldn’t like that. Al respected the late Jim Morrison and put Al’s own style in lyric writing for the song.

Al Yankovic made it clear before, his next album is going to be very topical, songs that will be about real events. He’s doing exactly that. His first single before this one which was T.I.’s parody is about the economic times we are having.

Those who are curious about the lyrics of “Craigslist” the new Weird Al tune, here it is here:

http://lyricwiki.org/%22Weird_Al%22_Yankovic:Craigslist

In my opinion, I think the lyrics are pretty funny. If you read it carefully, understand what Al is trying to say in it, you would find it hilarious.

Even the craigslist founder/owner found it funny as well!

Again though, I think there is definitely a legal reason behind why Al didn’t write the lyrics on how Jim Morrison would have wrote it. Ray was probably very strict about it. Ray has always been protective of Jim Morrison and the Doors music from day 1 ever since they started.

Cool Video: OMG!!!!!! Weird Al homage to the Doors to make fun of “craigslist”, with Ray Manzarek on keyboards!!!

“Weird Al” Yankovic has done it again. This time, he did a style parody of the Doors. This is an original song written by Al Yankovic, it’s not a parody of the Doors, but a style parody. Al Yankovic collaborates with the Doors keyboardist, Ray Manzarek in this song. This is “Weird Al’s” latest official video. It looks like Al is finally coming out with a new album soon.

This is just brilliant work. It’s nice to see Al Yankovic finally release an original song for a single, which he doesn’t do very much in his career. Most of his hit singles are all parodies of other work. This song is an original one written by Al himself.

Which I’m sure he got tons of advice and help from Ray Manzarek himself to make this song sound exactly like the Doors.

Enjoy this. Amazing job, Al. This is your best new work in a long time! Al is a musical genius, period. 🙂

Report: Eddie Van Halen is Hot For Nike…sues shoe company for trademarking guitar design…

The two handed fret tapping guitar god, Eddie Van Halen, has filed a lawsuit against, Nike, the legendary shoe company. He claims they stole the design of the new shoe they just made from his well known custom made guitar called, The Frankenstein.

Eddie filed a federal lawsuit against Nike accusing them of trademark infrigement, using the design without Eddie’s authorized permission.

TMZ reports:

http://www.tmz.com/2009/06/16/so-shoe-me-van-halen-takes-nike-to-court/

It isn’t trademark infrigement if the design is exactly the same which it isn’t. The colors are the same, yes, but the black and white X’s on the shoe are different on the Frankenstein guitar.

So who is safe in this lawsuit? I’m on Nike’s side on this one. Sorry Eddie. Nike wins. Eddie just needs to get rid of his delusional big fat ego.

Thought: Spinal Tap, “Back From the Dead” and their performance on Conan O’ Brien last night…

“This is Spinal Tap” is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love that film to death, the film is so hilarious and one of the best comedies ever made, in my opinion. I’m so glad that these guys are making Spinal Tap a real band now. If the Monkees can do it, why can’t Spinal Tap, right?

Last night on, “The Tonight Show” with Conan O’ Brien, Spinal Tap was the musical guest and my god, they played one fucking amazing performance, I was blown away! The original lineup playing their original characters: Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, all in character last night! I was most impressed with Christopher Guest’s guitar skills. He played a killer solo during that song they were playing.

After that performance, I’m thinking to myself, why would a talented guitar player like Christopher Guest mostly direct movies instead of the music? It looks like Christopher wants to concentrate on music more now because Spinal Tap released a new album this week and they are on a summer tour in support of it.

Spinal Tap are funny guys and talented musicians as well. I’m definitely picking up their new album, “Back from the Dead” this week. Along with the new Ghostbusters video game for the PS3 and the “Friday the 13th” movie on DVD. I plan on going to the mall this Thursday to get all those.

Back to Spinal Tap, I’m glad they are back. Is this a sign that they are planning a new movie in the works for the big screen? Is this why they released a new album and tour so they can document it all for another film? Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what they are planning.
