So you ask, what kind of full band music I wanna make??? The vision I’m hearing in my head is that I’m planning on using very little effects. I don’t need a lot of effects for my own rock music. All I need is a little overdrive and a little crunch. That’s it. I’m going for a Neil Young/Hendrix kind of feeling. The jams are probably gonna be long ’cause I’m probably gonna do a lot of soloing.

One thing when I’m soloing is that I don’t like to write out solos note for note and in my opinion, I hate when guitar players do that. I love improvising and winging things out. Ya know, just play the guitar solo once and never play it again. That’s how you become a great lead guitarist, in my opinion. That’s why I dig guitarists like Jimmy Page, Hendrix, Neil Young, Satriani, Trey Anastasio, etc. They never wrote out their solos… they were mostly improvised. That’s the direction that I’m gonna head into.

Yeah, you guess it. I’m planning to play jam rock kind of stuff. Just sing a few vocals with the lyrics and just jam out most of the time. I love that stuff.

I kind of want to bring back what the 60’s and 70’s did. I don’t need so many pedals and stuff ’cause it’s my belief that all that stuff is just to cover up your bad playing. You wanna stay true to yourself and not play with so many effects. I don’t know why some guitar players obsess with pedal collections. I could have a large pedal collection if I wanted but I don’t need to. All I need is overdrive, a little distortion and for the ballads, I would play clean with a little bit of reverb maybe.

I just wanna rock out just like the good old days of rock n’ roll. I think I can make some pretty good rock music.

A lot of times people have accused me that I don’t have what it takes to play full band stuff but watch me, I can show ’em.

Ya know, I think it’s a pretty good idea to start off with a cheap and affordable DAW for now until I get something even better down the road. Maybe I should start off with the $60 Reaper and then sometime down the road, I could get something like Reason, Cubase, etc.

I just wanna start off with a small basic studio.

To get a small basic studio all you need are:

1. A good computer (which I now have)

2. An audio interface

3. Studio headphones

4. Studio speaker monitors

5. A good microphone (which I now have)

6. Of course, musical instruments like guitars

7. A DAW

8. A MIDI controller/keyboard is optional too

I’m gonna start job hunting this month and if I get a job, I could save up for these things a lot faster. Even though I don’t have some of these things yet, I am still able to make music and record it. I’ll just record song ideas into Garageband on the Ipad for now.

Home recording is great. I don’t know why a lot of unsigned bands & artists neglect home recording ’cause it’s much cheaper and you’ll save money than wasting lots of money per hour in a professional studio locally. When you record at home you have complete control of your own sounds and ideas. You can be your own boss. You don’t have to have the engineer telling you what to do and giving your songs on how he wants them to sound like.

Home recording is the way to go, in my opinion.

I would like to learn how to produce, mix and master on my own so maybe I should start looking for books to tell me how or I could just figure it out all on my own.

I love home recording. I’ve recorded in a professional studio once before and I really didn’t like it too much to be honest. You can still get a great sound at home. You just got to know your stuff and do your research.

I gotta continue to make music ’cause it’s what I love to do. Can’t live without it.

I think the DAW that looks just right for me is “Propellerhead Reason 8”. It maybe a $400 program but maybe it’s worth it??? It seems like it’s the best program for creating full band rock music with. The program have also been getting positive reviews from home recording musicians.

Again, it may be a pricey program but maybe it’s worth it, ya know? Maybe it’s better to get a pricey program ’cause usually cheap music recording software isn’t really all that good. They make ’em cheap for a reason.

I could go for Pro Tools but I think Pro Tools is overrated as hell so I think I’m gonna try something different. Propellerhead sounds awesome to me.

I think it’ll make more sense if I buy the Focusrite audio interface and the studio monitors first and then I’ll start saving up for the DAW software.

Saving up for new music recording gear will begin this week.

I also think I should get a set of studio headphones and a music stand too. I need a music stand so I can have something to set my notebook on… the notebook is where I write all of my lyrics and stuff.

Since the Focusrite will have a MIDI connection… I’ll have to soon get MIDI connection wires so I can hook up my MIDI keyboard to it. I would also need a keyboard stand. I gotta get around to learning how to play keyboard/piano first, though and will this year.

I wanna turn this room into a mini recording studio and that’s my goal.
