I'm a musician, singer/songwriter, blogger, writer, poet, bodybuilder, movie lover, music lover, video gamer, history/political buff, conservative/republican, etc. I like to do a lot of things.

To build more strength quicker on bench, squat and deadlift… I think I need to start lifting heavier sets and low reps…

I think what I need to start doing in order to build more strength on bench, squat and deadlift is like the title says… I need to lift heavier weights and do low reps a lot more. I know you’re not going to build more strength by lifting weights that makes you feel comfortable all the time. For example, I always like to go for the 4 sets and 8 – 12 rep. range which will be about moderate weight. That will give you some strength sure but it’s more of a muscle building technique than giving you strength. To get more strength you want to lift the heavier sets for around 1 – 6 reps and that’s what I need to start doing from now on.

https://www.johnsonfitness.com/blog/lifting-weights-building-lean-muscle-high-vs-low-reps/

You see, I want to build muscle and get more strength at the same time. So I got to mix it up somehow. I have been mixing it up lately.

Usually what I’ve been doing is that I lift the moderate weights for 4 sets and 12 reps first and then I’ll do the heavy set last. I’ll only do that with bench, squats and deadlifts.

I’m going to have change my workout plan around some and figure something out ’cause I’ve been writing things down in a log book lately. What a lot of lifters do is that they pick a week for moderate weights and then they do heavy days the week after. I’m not sure how exactly they do it but I’ll do some research on that.

Another way to get more strength is that I need to boost my nutrition and I have done that. I’ve started eating more instead of less. Usually I eat 4 or 5 meals a day and I think soon, I’ll boost it up to 6 meals a day. Gotta get those calories and lbs. if you want to get bigger and stronger. I don’t want to lose weight, I want to gain but not get fat if you know what I mean.

I was never meant to become a Powerlifter… I just wanted to build muscle and become the best shape of my life. To do bodybuilding and powerlifitng at the same time is kind of challenging and I’ll figure out how to do both. Not only do I want to build muscle and look great, I also want to be strong like a beast too.

Nirvana reunion just happened at Cal Jam Fest… they were pretty good but no one can sing like Kurt, sorry!

The Nirvana reunion officially happened right after the Foo Fighters set at Cal Jam Fest this year. The surviving members of Nirvana performed several Nirvana songs with a few special guests: John McCauley of Deer Tick, Joan Jett and Brody Dalle of the Distillers. Nirvana played the songs: “Serve the Servants”, “Scentless Apprentice”, “In Bloom”, “Breed”, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “All Apologies”.

Honestly the band did a pretty good job… they played the music well but my problem were the vocals. These songs are pretty hard to hear without Kurt singing them. Nobody can sing like Kurt ’cause Kurt had his own unique singing voice. Both John and Joan tried to match Kurt’s singing style but not even close. It’s hard to match Kurt’s vocal style. Kurt wasn’t much of a singer and I remember Dave saying in an interview once that Kurt never had any professional vocal training but he still had a great rock voice.

The surviving members still hasn’t changed much over the years. Krist Novoselic stills plays bass like he always had… holding the bass down so low and still hopping around on stage like he always done. Krist is wearing a hat to hide his bald head ’cause he is 53 now.  He can’t grow the long hair like he used to when he was young.

Other than that, it doesn’t matter how well you think these musicians played the Nirvana songs. It was about celebrating the music of Nirvana and celebrating Kurt Cobain. That’s what they did this for.

If Kurt Cobain was still around to see this,  I’m sure he would have been proud. Now I think the Nirvana reunion should play a full length concert and play a lot more Nirvana songs. Who knows… maybe that could happen next. We’ll have to wait and see if Dave plans on doing more with them.

Brett Kavanaugh finally confirmed for Supreme Court Justice!!! YES!!! WOOT!!!

Well, I would say it’s about fucking time! I watched the voting on TV today. The battle was very close but the big Kav got it! The evil Democrats desperately tried to take him down and they failed miserably. Now ABC news is reporting that Dr. Christine Ford is no longer going after him and looks like she’s backing down from all this ’cause she knows she lost her fight.

Some of you may say this circus is all over but the Dems won’t give up. They’re going to try and impeach him now. Just watch. Dems don’t care about the truth, they don’t care about the law and they don’t care about due process either. The only thing they don’t want is a mostly “conservative” SCOTUS and that’s what is scaring them to death.

If you liberals are upset over this, just wait for the midterms when the red wave happens.

I would have to say that my favorite moments over this Kavanaugh thing would have to be Lindsey Graham and the Susan Collins speech.

This whole circus was such a joke. It was an obvious Democrat hit job and if you can’t see that then WOW, I don’t know what to say. If you still call yourself a Democrat/liberal after all this then that proves that you’re messed up and don’t know anything about politics. It’s real disgusting to see Dems destroying good people ’cause political views are different. It’s gotta stop and it’s not good for America at all.

I’m glad Kavanaugh is finally SCOTUS, though. He seems like a really good guy too and he didn’t deserve to get attacked by the Dems like that. Dems are really evil and despicable people. I want to know who the leaker is and evil Diane Feinstein needs to be investigated.

Once again, if you liberal readers out there are upset with this… be ready for the midterms and the re-election for Trump in 2020. You don’t like the conservative take over in America? Well too bad! You lefties brought it upon yourself ’cause liberals suck ass. We’re fed up with the left and we finally say, “Enough is enough”!

“When you see something in another person you don’t like, it’s because you don’t like it about yourself”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BomW0AXgv8M/?taken-by=_jakewoodard

This is pretty awesome and I agree with it all too.

In this day and age, we now live in a world where if you don’t like someone then you’ll have no problem to be honest about that person you don’t like. You like to explain your reasons why you don’t like this person. You say things like: “I don’t like him ’cause he’s a jerk and don’t like his short temper”, “I don’t like his attention whoring and trolling on the internet”, “I don’t like him ’cause he’s arrogant and full of himself”, etc. Blah blah blah… whatever your feelings are about that person then you don’t like it about yourself. Like this meme says, if you spot it you got it. For example,  if you think this person you don’t like is a jerk then you’re probably a jerk too. If you don’t like this person ’cause he/she is arrogant, cocky and full of themselves then you’re the same. If you think this person is a trouble maker then you’re probably a trouble maker too. If you think person has an attitude problem then you have an attitude problem too.

I’ve been badly judged by a lot of people over the years and people have said I was all these things. People who said I was all these things, usually are the same thing. I was called a jerk and an internet troll many times and it’s usually by people who have the same problems.

You see, if you call someone a “jerk” then you are probably a jerk to other people. You hate that about yourself and that’s why you go around calling out people you don’t like. You take it out on others.

I’ve always said that if people treat you badly then they have all sorts of problems themselves.

I’m guilty of judging others a little bit but I try not to. Judging other people is a waste of time.

My latest deadlift personal record is 210 lbs…

This is me deadlifting a big 210 lbs. again. This is the heaviest I can dead-lift as this is my personal record so far. I’m hoping to be able to deadlift 220 lbs. sometime before the next Powerlifting meet but it’s gonna take me a while to get there. This is my third time lifting 210 lbs. for one rep but if I keep doing it, I’ll soon be able to deadlift 215 like maybe in a month or two.

Still though, 210 lbs. is really good and I’m pretty proud of myself for sure. I never thought I would be able to dead-lift over 200 lbs. but I guess I can. Here’s the video to prove it. This didn’t hurt me at all and it was real easy too.

I can’t bench and squat heavy yet but working on those too.

Over the years of my life, people called me weak and thought I couldn’t lift heavy things. Well, how do you like me now?

Bought some more albums from Itunes yesterday…

I listened to two of these albums while I was at the gym earlier today. I listened to John Coltrane “My Favorite Things” and Joe Bonamassa “Redemption”. Both really good!

Like the instagram says,  I’m really getting into John Coltrane music. I’m really loving jazz music more and more as I get older. I’ll never lose interest in rock n’ roll and metal ’cause those two genres will always be my no. 1 but you gotta listen to a variety of music. I’ve always liked to listen to a wide variety of music. You name it: rock, metal, blues, jazz, some country and I even to listen to some R&B, pop/dance and some rap/hip hop. As for classical music and opera I don’t listen to hardly at all when I should.

When I want to relax,  I listen to jazz and blues music which is what I prefer.  I’ve always listened to the blues my whole life but trying to get into jazz a lot more which I am. As I get older in life, admittedly my taste in music is changing a bit.

As for the new Greta Van Fleet album, like the instagram says I got it on pre-order since it’s not out yet but once it’s out,  it’ll start downloading. Can’t wait to get that album ’cause I’m a huge fan of Greta Van Fleet. I’m not too crazy about today’s rock music industry but Greta Van Fleet is the best thing going.

I really need to be more outgoing with people and I’m working on it…

Over the years of my life, I’ve always been a shy and quiet person. Now I feel it’s finally time to put an end to that into hoping becoming a more outgoing person. I used to be this type of person who don’t like to talk to people admittedly — I’ll confess to that. I was one of those who wouldn’t talk to complete strangers and was only talkative to people I know. Well I need to start working on being more talkative and be more approachable with everybody and I’m working on that.

A lot lately, I’ve been using the gym as an excuse to practice my social skills with people more and it’s working really. I know the gym isn’t really the place to socialize but you don’t want to socialize with people during workouts. Usually before or after is a good time to socialize with people. It’s okay to talk to people while resting in between their sets as long as it’s not too long.

I’ve been going to the Battenkill Y gym for several years now and because of it, I’m starting to know some people that go there. Knowing their names and all. I gotta realize that people out there aren’t that bad and people won’t bite at all. A lot of people out there in this world are really nice. Yeah, sometimes you will run into assholes and rude shitheads but you just ignore them and move on.

Yeah, I’m working on my confidence and working on my conversation skills. Thing is, I’m not much of a talker. When I do talk, I don’t talk very long but I need to learn how to hold a long conversation and I’m working on that too. Trying to anyways. Working on my speaking skills, grammar and vocabulary too. It’s all about self-improvement, ya know?

Talking to complete strangers is not that hard. To start a conversation with someone, all you gotta do is say, “Hi, how are you” and that’s it. People like that when you say that to them and that’s how you start conversations that way.

I would like to make new friends and even start dating women. In order to be good with that, you gotta be good with starting conversations with people and I’m working on that and practicing. It’s time to transform myself. I hate being an introvert and it’s time to grow up.

Nirvana reuniting for Cal Jam Fest? Dave Grohl finally agreed to start covering Nirvana songs after all?

For many years, Dave Grohl has always been against covering Nirvana songs but it’s looking like that he finally agreed to it. The Foo Fighters have been teasing a Nirvana reunion for this year’s Cal Jam Festival. It’s looking like Dave finally agreed to play Nirvana songs at live concerts ’cause the Foo Fighters posted a video clip where the Nirvana song “Serve the Servants” was being played backwards. The official Nirvana twitter retweeted it.

Foo Fighters Could Be Staging a Nirvana Reunion at Cal Jam

I think it’ll be cool if the Nirvana reunion would play a full set of Nirvana hits. I think it’ll be great if Dave will sing all the Nirvana songs we know and love: “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Come As you Are”, “In Bloom”, “Heart Shaped Box”, “All Apologies”, “Lithium”, “Territorial Pissings”, etc.

I’m a huge Nirvana fan. Have been ever since in the 90’s and I was a teenager in high school back then. I’ve always listened to Nirvana and still do. I think Dave will do a good job singing Kurt’s songs. Dave will not sound like Kurt but I’m sure Dave could pull it off nicely.

I think Dave should do this ’cause it’ll be a nice flashback of the 90’s. It’s really about celebrating the music of Kurt Cobain and that’s what fans wants from Dave. I’m sure Nirvana still got it even without Kurt.

Clint Eastwood’s “The Mule” trailer is out and the film looks freakin’ amazing!

Clint Eastwood is once again starring in the leading role of a film he directed. The last time he directed and starred in his own movie was “Gran Torino” released in 2008. Here is Clint’s new movie called, “The Mule” which he directed and starred once again. The film also stars Bradley Cooper. Brad Cooper starred in a Clint Eastwood directed film called “American Sniper” but didn’t star with Clint in that one. This time Brad gets the opportunity to star in a movie with Clint. It’s nice to finally see Brad and Clint onscreen together.

From the looks of the trailer, I think the film looks AMAZING as I got goosebumps watching it. This is no surprise ’cause Clint Eastwood always directed great movies. I try to watch all Clint Eastwood directed films with the exception of “Hereafter”, “Invictus” and “Jersey Boys” which I haven’t seen.

Keep in mind that Clint is 88 years old and he still doesn’t believe in retirement it looks like. Clint agreed to star in “The Mule” ’cause it fits the story. The story is about a 90 year old man delivering cocaine for a Mexican drug cartel.

I think the film looks great and definitely going to see this one in December. Looks like there are some pretty good movies coming out for the rest of the year. Other movies I want to see this year are: “A Star Is Born”, the new “Halloween”, “The Girl In the Spider’s Web”, “Creed II” and “The Mule”. I’m going to try to see all those.

Good form in weightlifting is everything… wanna build big muscle quicker and get stronger? Feeling full contraction is key!!!

In the past, I used to never take form seriously when it comes to weight-lifting admittedly. When I first started weightlifting, I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. Admittedly, I was sacrificing good form just to get into lifting heavy right away which is the last thing you want to do. Good form is vital if you want to hit the muscle in the right places and so you won’t get injured.

It’s amazing how many guys in the gym I see lifting with bad form. I don’t say anything ’cause it’s rude and “bad” gym etiquette just to go up to someone to tell them “you’re doing this wrong, you do it this way”.

Just a few days ago, I was watching a guy doing heavy bench pressing and he was doing it the worst form ever. He was moving the bar up and down very little, not using full range of motion. While he was moving the bar up and down very little, his butt was going up off the bench which is bad. When benching, the butt needs to be on the bench at all times. If the butt lifts off the bench when lifting, you’re using too much weight. I think this guy knew that, it’s just that his ego was so huge and was trying to be a show off that he could lift heavy.

I see too many half reppers and I see too many guys doing stuff in horrible form as if they look like they were about to hurt themselves.

There are too many gym rats that are in such a rush to lift heavy when you don’t need to be. What’s wrong with lifting weights that makes you comfortable? Lifting weights that makes you feel comfortable would be more easier and you can feel a full contraction that way. Nothing wrong with lifting heavy but if you can do it in good form by all means, go for it. So many men in all ages workout in terrible form ’cause a lot of them are misinformed about bodybuilding.

I’m just starting to learn that if you want to build big muscle quicker, feeling the full contraction is key. Feel the full contraction on every rep and every set. Do every rep and every set in perfectly good form. If you can’t do a workout in good form then don’t be afraid to lower the weights ’cause it’s okay. I’m starting to do that more… lowering the weights so I can do better form.

A lot lately, I’m trying to take good form in all my workouts more seriously. I take every aspect of form very seriously even the things that are very small. It’s the best thing to do if you want to hit the muscle in the right places and get a full contraction.

Also, I see a lot of guys in the gym do their reps very quickly… for example, I see guys doing lat pull downs very fast, same with seated cable rows and cable crossovers. In my opinion, I think that’s bad. I like to do my reps in slow movements ’cause you hit the muscle harder that way.

So many people in the gym will NEVER admit they do things in bad form ’cause their ego is so big and they’re a bit of a narcissist. It’s okay to admit that you do things in bad form. I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m still trying to get the form right on barbell squats and dumbbell shoulder presses.

Leave your ego at the door and stay humble. There are a lot of egos and arrogant jerks that go to the gym… that’s why you see a lot of men screaming, grunting and dropping heavy dumbbells to the floor when they don’t need to do all that. They’re just a bunch of attention whores.

I’m glad I’ve been filming myself working out at the gym ’cause that’s a great way to see if you’re doing things right and you can correct your form that way. It really works.
