Warner Bros. to release 3D version of “Wizard of Oz” to BluRay next Fall…

Warner Bros. will be celebrating their big 90 year anniversary, next year, and they have a few big announcements. The first one, is that they are releasing the 1939 family classic, “The Wizard of OZ”, converted to 3D and fully restored, coming to BluRay sometime next Fall.

Plus Warner Bros. will also be releasing a 100 of their films in a box set, and a 50 film version DVD set. Both sets will have various Warner Bros. films they have released over the years. All of this is part of their 90 year celebration.

More on the story, here.

Cool stuff. Their Best of Collections would be too pricey to me, but I’ll probably get the “Wizard Of Oz” 3D Blu Ray. Hopefully they include the 3D glasses along with it. I am now interested in the “Wizard of Oz” in 3D BluRay.Seeing “Wizard of Oz” in 3D could be pretty cool. “Wizard Of Oz” has always been one of my favorite too.

Congrats to Warner Bros. on 90 years. I respect their legacy and history. They’re the guys that brought us the Looney Tunes and all the Superhero movies. We should thank them for the entertainment.

Cool Video: He’s baaaackkkkk, John McClane that is…for reals…

The trailer for Die Hard 5, “A Good Day to Die Hard”, dropped out of no where today, yahoo exclusive. While I never cared for Die Hard 3 and 4, I thought 1 and 2 were great flicks. Especially, the first one which is a classic and it’s an essential film. I’ll admit that this trailer here, gave me goosebumps. So I’m praying this will be a good movie. It looks to be an action packed ride. I’ll be in the theater for this one, sure.

The Brock’s Horror Film Pick #4: The Omen (the original)

I love “The Omen” (the original), not the crappy remake. “The Omen” with Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, is another one of my favorite horror flicks to watch on Halloween night every year. The film is directed by Richard Donner too, by the way. It’s a truly creepy flick. This film is just perfect all the way through. Great writing and great acting. The film direction is even real good. If any of you haven’t even seen the original “Omen” flick, what are you waiting for? If you have Netflix like I do, “The Omen” is streamable there. Do yourself a favor and see this film either before Halloween or on Halloween night itself. If you’re not a Netflix subscriber, then I’m sure you can rent it somewhere or wait for those classic movie channels to do a horror film marathon, TV usually air the original around Halloween season.

“The Princess Bride” cast reunion, 25 years later!!!

From left to right: Cary Elwes (as Westley the man in black), Robin Wright Penn (Princess Buttercup), Mandy Patinkin (Innigo Montoya), Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdinck), Wallace Shawn (Vizzini), Carol Kane (Valerie), Billy Crystal (Miracle Max)

There they are, the whole gang is there except there are 3 people missing from this reunion. They are Fred Savage who played the sick boy, Peter Falk who played the Grandfather (RIP) and Andre the Giant (who played Fezzik, RIP). Fred Savage is still alive obviously, he just wasn’t a part of this reunion, which would have been cool if he was there.

“The Princess Bride” is such a great movie. I have it on DVD, but I’m thinking about replacing it with the Blu Ray. 😉

Enjoy the film’s best scenes in the videos below.

Cool Video: Hi, ho Silver, away!!! The Lone Ranger trailer finally arrives!

And the film looks like garbage too. What a disappointment! Typical Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer. I was hoping the film would be more like the classic TV series, but of course, Hollywood have to make this an action movie with high tech cinematography. This looks like it might be a wait for rental kind of thing for me.

EDIT TO ADD: And having Johnny Depp playing Tonto is pretty offensive, they need an actual Indian to play that character.

The Brock’s Horror Film Pick #3: “Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn”

Some of you may or may not know, that I am a pretty big Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead geek. I love the Evil Dead movies, all three of them, even “Army of Darkness” is great. I think “Evil Dead II’ is the best one of the trilogy. You can get scared, get grossed out, and laugh at the same time. A horror comedy, type of film. It’s a perfect film to watch around Halloween season. Chainsaws, demons, and memorable catch phrases like, “Groovy”.

Report: “Man of Steel” will focus on a “naturalistic approach” similar to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy…

While this is no surprise, the new “Man of Steel” movie setting to hit theaters next Summer in 2013, will be similar to the Batman trilogy. The first “Man of Steel” movie will have an origin story much like, “Batman: Begins”. Just like that film was the beginning of Batman, this film will be the beginning of Superman. It’s going to ignore the Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve style. This film will be like a Superman movie made for the first time. So you will not hear the John Williams main theme at all. “Man Of Steel” will make you wonder what Superman will be like if he was real. The screenwriter, David Goyer, speaks out on how he is handling the script, a little bit, but of course, he doesn’t get into details with the story and plot.

More on the story, here.

While, I’m still disappointed that the John Williams music won’t be in the movie, I’ll give it a chance. Maybe Hans Zimmer can give it a good score, who knows. I like their idea for the new Superman story, but admittedly, I’m a bit skeptical like some people out there. This film could be a flop and may not be as good. People may not be used to a different approach to Superman ’cause everyone is so used to the Richard Donner style. I do like Henry as Superman though, that’s a good choice. I’m just hoping and praying that this will be an amazing film. Will Zack redeem himself this time? Or will he make another shit movie, worse than “Sucker Punch”? Who knows. All we have to do is wait to see the actual film and than people can judge. If “Man of Steel” gets positive reviews from everyone, that would be amazing, but I am predicting that this film will get mixed reviews.

I’m hoping Warner Bros., will release trailer #2 soon with Hans Zimmer’s new theme and hope they will show General Zod for the next trailer. “Man of Steel” is just the beginning but I’m sure the sequel will leave open more ideas and more villains. Lex Luthor may not be in “Man of Steel”, but maybe he will get a cameo at the end and he could be the leading villain for the sequel?

The Brock’s Horror Film Pick #2: The Exorcist

“The Exorcist” is one of those classic horror flicks, that we all looked after. Most of us have seen when we were a kid, and it’s a perfect film to introduce your child to. You can’t forget the unbelievable performances of Linda Blair and Max Von Sydow. I love this film, everything about it. While there are a ton of Exorcism flicks out there, nothing will top this film ever. Whenever you see this film on TV, you can’t help yourself but leave it at that channel and watch, ’cause this film does that.

The Brock’s Horror Film Pick #1: John Carpenter’s “Halloween”…

Usually, every year, I would do a top 15 horror film list in the month of Oct., to recommend horror flicks for readers to see on Halloween. I just thought of a better plan. Instead of doing the typical yearly top 15 list, I thought I would do something different. Something a little better. I thought it would be cool to post one video a day of a favorite horror film of mine. One video a day, of a different film, leading up to Halloween Day itself on Oct. 31st.

Tonight, I’ll start off with this one, John Capenter’s “Halloween”, 1978 film with Jamie Lee Curtis. This is my favorite horror flick of all time, I watch it every year Halloween night. You learn something new every time you watch it. This film is indeed a classic. It’s definitely one of those films you can watch over and over again, and never get tired of it.

Enjoy the best scene of the whole film.

Report: And your host for the 85th Annual Academy Awards is… Seth McFarlane!!!

Seth McFarlane, is not only well known for creating the “Family Guy”, which is a cartoon series that all of us love, he is a man of many different talents. He is also a musician and singer, so I’m sure the Academy wanted him ’cause he would be entertaining for a funny song and dance musical. He is a talented guy. I enjoy the “Family Guy” like most people, I try to watch it when I get around to it. It’s a funny as hell show.

See the Academy’s Press Release about it, here.

Finally! A good host for the Oscars, other than having Steve Martin or Billy Crystal, all the damn time! Hopefully Seth, stays committed to hosting the show and won’t back out. I know the Oscars have had trouble trying to find a host the last few years.

It’s too early for Oscar nomination predictions, but I do have a feeling that “The Master” or Spielberg’s “Lincoln” will score the most nominations. It’s going to be a big year for Spielberg again.

Hear Seth singing in the video below.
