Film Review: “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” ***Major Spoilers***

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner

Directed by: David Slade

So yesterday, I went to the mall to see the movie, “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” the newest Twilight film. I will be discussing the storyline so there will be major spoilers. So if you haven’t seen the movie yet, do not read any further.

Plot/Synopsis: The story is about an evil redheaded female vampire named, Victoria that wants to kill Bella. Victoria sets up her own army of newborn vampires to help with her mission. As Victoria is on her way to kill Bella, a love triangle is trapped between Bella, Jacob and Edward. Both Edward and Jacob are in love with Bella, but of course, Bella wants to be with Edward more. Throughout the film, we see a bit of hatred between Edward and Jacob. Later in the film, Jacob and Edward threw their hatred aside to get along so they can save Bella’s life from Victoria and the newborns. As Victoria tries to kill Bella, her mission is interupted because the Volturi returned to kill Victoria.

Yes, I know the “Twilight” series has always been a target for it being aimed at tweens and the series being written by a woman named, Stephenie Meyer. It is mostly men out there trashing the series only because it’s aimed at tweens. Yes, I agree that the series is kind of aimed at tweens, I won’t deny that either but after seeing “Eclipse”, what I saw wasn’t a tween movie and I’m going to explain in this review.

In “Twilight: Eclipse” what I saw was a film that was pretty maturing, in the directing and writing part. What I’m saying is, this film is more adult like. The film got a PG-13 rating after all. Why is this? Because the movie wasn’t really aimed at young teenagers. I believe the reason for the PG-13 rating was that there was a lot more violence and more blood than the first two Twilight films. The first two Twilight films were too family friendly, indeed, but this one is more on the darker side. Plus, there were a few love scenes that were almost sexual that couldn’t get a PG rating. Of course, there are plenty of shirtless muscle guys in the film.

Another popular attack of the film are the werewolves. A lot of Twilight haters like to make fun of the CGI werewolves, saying that they look more like dogs instead of the werewolves like you see in movies such as “American Werewolf in London”, “The Wolf Man”, and “The Howling” why, Twilight werewolves don’t look like those. The thing that people make the mistake with werewolves in the film is, they aren’t really werewolves. In the books, Stephenie wrote that they are actually shapeshifters. They are also decadents of actual wolves. This is what Stephenie had to do in order to make the wolves more family friendly for the teens.

As for vampires in Twilight surviving during the day, not being killed by a stake through the heart, and not being afraid of the crucifix…in vampire fiction you can create vampire survival however you want. In vampire fiction, most vampire authors make vampire survival differently. The HBO TV show, “True Blood”, the vampires survive differently too and the same with that new vampire movie, “Daybreakers” with Ethan Hawke. Stephenie had a different vision with her feel of vampires. Every vampire fiction has their own way of killing a vampire, and in “Twilight”, the only way to kill a vampire is dismember their body parts and burn them. And in that movie “Daybreakers”, the only way to kill a vampire in that film is either by sunlight or explosion.

You see, not every movie or book needs to have the same way of vampire survival or death. That’s the freedom of creative writing and freedom of speech in America. Back to “Twilight: Eclipse”, yes, there are also plenty of love scenes and muscle guys for the girl fans. The goal with this film was that they wanted something for everybody in it. The love scenes and the shirtless guys for the girls. The action and the violence for male fans. The film’s directing style greatly improved from the first two films. David Slade is a great director since he did “40 Days of Night”. Maybe that was why this film had a mature feeling. There is also an improvement in the dialogue and the acting as well.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good “Twilight” movie. The series is improving every film. The reason the film had a mature feeling to it ’cause the film was too dark and violent for tweens to see. When I saw the film in theater, I didn’t see a theater full of young teenage girls surprisingly. Yes, there were some tweens in there, but not as much as there was when I saw the first two films in theater. What I saw was an age range of mostly 20’s – 30’s, both male and female in the theater audience. Summit Entertainment’s goal with Twilight, is that they want these films to be for everybody, not just tweens. That’s why they decided to experiment with a PG-13 rating, to see what kind of age differences they get of an audience in theaters.

The reason I like these series is because I’m a huge fan of vampire fiction. I admit Stephenie’s stories is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, but for some reason she draws me into reading them and seeing the movies. Since most people are into “Harry Potter”, I decided to be into “Twilight” instead.

Score for “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” = *** (3 Stars as in “good)

Report: The new Pee Wee movie to be aimed at kids? Paul Reubens explains the plot…

Now that Judd Apatow has been named producer, Paul Reubens explains the plot for the next Pee Wee movie. Yes, it will be a “Playhouse” movie, but most of the movie will be taken place outside of the playhouse, in the outside world. It won’t be the real world like how we are living right now like “Big Adventure” was, but this movie will have characters mostly being puppets. There will only be two scenes in the, Playhouse.

So sounds like this will be a family friendly version of Pee Wee for kids and family?

More on it here:

http://www.collider.com/2010/07/01/pee-wee-herman-film-paul-reubens-judd-apatow/

In my opinion, the movie shouldn’t be aimed at kids. It should be aimed for audiences in their 20’s – 30’s. That’s how the age range was at the Pee Wee live shows in Los Angeles, I believe. Maybe this movie will still be aimed for adults, could be. Reubens could write a lot of inappropriate Pee Wee jokes that kids shouldn’t be hearing. Pee Wee’s live shows is mostly like that.

From the sounds of things look like Pee Wee will be the only human in the film and the rest of the cast will be puppets being voiced by big name actors?

Report: Sean Penn is finally ready to go back to work on film!

After dropping out of the “Three Stooges” movie and several other films to focus on his personal life, Sean Penn has finally decided he’s ready to return to film. Sean took a short break from Hollywood due to his nasty divorce with Robin Wright Penn and getting in trouble with the law for being up a papparazo. During his hiatus from Hollywood, Sean did some work over in Haiti.

Now Sean is attached to produce and possibly star in a biopic film about surfing legend, Doc Paskowitz.

More on it here:

To those who thinks it’s weird that Sean is involved with a surfing movie, it should be no secret that Sean Penn always had a love for surfing. Sean did surfing movies before.

Remember the movie, “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”? He played a surfer in that movie:

Report: “Back to the Future” trilogy on it’s way to Blu Ray Oct. 26!!! This is a must buy for me!!

I’m definitely getting this. I’m a huge “Back to the Future” fan. Even though I already have the trilogy on DVD, I’m still getting the Blu Ray versions. I’m getting it for the 2 hours of never before seen footage.

http://www.collider.com/2010/06/28/back-to-the-future-blu-ray-trilogy-25th-anniversary-october-26th/

I don’t get Blu Ray too much. Only Blu Ray I have in my collection is “WW II in HD”. I stick with collecting DVD ’cause I’m waiting for prices on Blu Ray to go down. Prices on Blu Ray is slowly going down, but the new releases on Blu Ray is very pricey. Blu Ray movies is way cool though and definitely different than DVD. Picture and sound is better especially when you have an HD TV like I have.

Report: The popular Facebook game, Mafia Wars, is heading to the big screen!!!

The popular facebook game, Mafia Wars, is rumoured to hit the big screen in the future.

More on it here:

http://www.collider.com/2010/06/28/facebook-mafia-wars-game-adapted-feature-film/

First, the entire Facebook site gets their own movie, “The Social Network” directed by David Fincher (youtube the trailer for that film) and now this?

Some of you may find this a bit of a surprise, but I don’t go to Facebook to play any of their games at all. I don’t play Mafia Wars, Farmville, Vampire games, Fantasy stuff, poker, etc. I go to Facebook to keep in touch with family, friends, fans/supporters, and musicians. Not to play games.

If I wanted my video gaming entertainment, I have the ps3 for that.

As for my thoughts on a Mafia Wars movie, I’m all for it as long as the story is good and the casting is good.

Report: The new Pee Wee movie moves forward and Judd Apatow is hired as producer!!!

Universal Pictures is moving the “Pee Wee’s Playhouse: The Movie” forward and they have hired a producer. That is no one other than Judd Apatow. If you don’t know who Judd Apatow is, he directed such movies like, “Superbad”, “Funny People”, and “The 40 Year Old Virgin”.

Paul Reubens already wrote the script to “Pee Wee’s Playhouse: The Movie” through Universal. Pee Wee Herman will be heading to Broadway in NYC in the Fall.

More on it here:

Hmmmmm, this got me thinking of something. Since Judd is hired as producer and not director, does that mean Universal is saving the director’s job for, Tim Burton? Oh man, that would be sweet if they got Tim Burton on board as director. I’m game for a Paul Reubens and Tim Burton reunion, yes please!

Yep, you betcha I will go see the new Pee Wee movie when it comes out. Hopefully Tim Burton will direct it and maybe Danny Elfman will score for Pee Wee again?

*Crosses fingers for Tim Burton/Danny Elfman*

Cool Video: “Paranormal Activity 2” teaser hits the web already!

Wow. That was fast. Didn’t take them long to make the sequel to “Paranomral Activity”. I thought the first movie was great and this one looks interesting.

Look like that woman that appears in the doorway is still Katie from the first one. Now look like she just had a baby. Now that Katie killed Micah from the first one, does that make Katie a single mom now? Is she back to haunt her baby or something?

That’s what it’s looking like. See the trailer here. I’ll go see it. I love horror flicks.

Report: Robin Williams wants to play the Riddler in next “Dark Knight” flick, if Chris Nolan picks the Riddler that is…

Robin Williams, revealed that he is dying to play the Riddler in the next “Batman” flick. The only problem is, Christopher Nolan and David Goyer still haven’t announced the main villain for Batman 3 yet. Just a few days ago, Christopher Nolan announced that the script for “Batman 3” is now in the works, finally. So we will soon know who the villains for the next flick will be.

Robin also says, he was offered roles for the earlier Batman films but he was turned down everytime. He got offered to play the Joker in Tim Burton’s “Batman” film, but it obviously went to Jack Nicholson instead and he also got offered a role for the Riddler in “Batman: Forever” but he was turned down for that too.

More on it here:

http://foreign.peacefmonline.com/entertainment/201006/52127.php

If Christopher Nolan does happen to pick the Riddler, maybe Robin’s dream would come true. Mr. Nolan has worked with Robin Williams in a film before. Remember that film, “Insomnia” which Robin stars with Al Pacino and Hillary Swank? That film was directed by Mr. Nolan, and Robin plays a villain in that film. So Mr. Nolan would know that Robin plays a villain very well.

Robin also played a villain in the movie , “One Hour Photo”, which was directed by Mark Romanek. Robin does have experience playing villains in films.

Even if the Riddler is picked for the next Batman film, that still doesn’t mean Robin could get picked. Maybe Chris has a different vision for a different actor that would be the right fit. So my point in this blog, don’t get your hopes up that Robin will get the role. I’d like to see him get it and Robin would play the role perfectly. Robin thinks he’s gonna get it because his “ego” got in his head that he already worked with Chris before.

I’m all cool with Robin as the Riddler, sure, but honestly, I would say give the Riddler role to a young actor.

To those who thought “The Dapper Don” was an evil man…read up…

After doing more research on the “Dapper Don’s” history, I’m beggining to see, that John Gotti Sr. wasn’t that bad of a guy as everyone thinks he is. People online are treating him as a vicious serial killer. As in “evil”…but was he really all that evil?

Read and learn:

http://crime.about.com/od/gangsters/a/johngotti.htm

He may have committed crimes most of his life but they weren’t really serious crimes, mostly burglaries, hijacking, and all that little stuff. He only murdered two people. Paul Castellano and Thomas Billoti. The only reason they were killed, ’cause they were bosses of the Gambino family and Gotti wanted to take over. If you look up the wikipedia’s of Castellano and Billoti, you can see that those two guys were dangerous animals. In reality, Gotti “The Dapper Don” wasn’t really all that bad.

Maybe that’s what Sly wants to prove in the film.
