As odd as this sounds, Slash never liked playing guitar in front of people even though he’s considered one of the greats…

Guitar icon, Slash maybe considered one of guitar greats… he helped Guns N’ Roses become one of the best selling bands of all time and Slash had other great projects like with supergroup The Velvet Revolver, he also had a solo career and his longtime project with vocalist Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators… Slash has always been “self-conscious” and “insecure” about his own playing. He never liked playing in front of people and never liked wearing headphones in the studio.

He maybe one of the great rhythm and lead players but he always get so scared playing for people. Some of you may ask, if he doesn’t like playing for people, why does he always constantly tour with all of his projects? Well, I’ve read in other articles, he wears his top hat as a way to help him play more confidently on stage.

Read this little interesting article from Guitar World.

Slash maybe one of the greats but he has always been shy and insecure about his playing. He just plays guitar for himself pretty much and the way I see it, that’s how you play great guitar is play for yourself and not be a “show-off”. Slash was never the “show off” type like, “Hey, look what I can do, think you can play better than this?”.

Slash has always been a humble guy and that’s one of the reasons he’s respected.

Slash is a genius at both rhythm and lead. He’s definitely a riff master and he’s a fine acoustic player as well. Speaking of Slash, I’m a fan of all his bands and projects. I love Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver and all the stuff he did with Myles Kennedy. Speaking of Slash & Myles Kennedy, I forgot they just released their 4th album this year and I have the first three. I forgot to grab their fourth album from Itunes but I’ll grab their new album sometime in the future.

Slash rules. He’s always been one of my favorites and he’s definitely one of those that sparked my own interest in guitar as well.

Will years of loud music destroy your hearing? Truth be told, yes, it will…

Well, Dave Grohl is the latest rock musician to admit that he has hearing loss. He has had it for a long while but Dave isn’t the only rock musician that lost their hearing… Brian Johnson of AC/DC is just recently suffering from it ’cause that’s why he left that band for a while to begin with.

There are other rock musicians who are hearing impaired such as Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, Huey Lewis, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Brian Wilson, Liam Gallagher, Bob Dylan… the list can keep going. Really, many of the big rock legends suffered hearing loss over the years.

Why? Maybe some of them were born with bad hearing but most rock musicians lost their hearing due to loud music over the years. Ya know, they spent their whole life playing loud music, thousands of hours of playing in the studio and playing on the stage night after night.

I myself am hearing impaired, I’m deaf on the left ear and have partial hearing loss on the right but I still have an okay ear with music. I was born with hearing loss, music didn’t do it to me, though.

Being a musician may sound fun and addictive but is it healthy for your ears being around music all the time? Not really.

I understand rock musicians need to play loud ’cause that’s how rock is supposed to be played but I think the industry needs to find a way for musicians to protect their ears more. I’m sure the industry comes up with gadgets that protect their ears and I’m sure they aren’t cheap to get either. As a musician, do you really need to be around loud music all the time? Truth is, you don’t really need to.

It seems that hearing loss with musicians and artists is getting worse and worse. That’s what happens with dealing with life in the studio and on the road touring heavily, ya know? Loud noise can wreck your ears that easily.

Korn’s new album “Requiem” fails to hit the top 10 in the Billboard 200… not their fault, though….

Over the years, Korn’s been making albums that would go way high up in the Billboard charts. Korn’s got a couple of No. 1 albums which were “Follow the Leader” and “Issues” which are both great records. Korn’s also got other albums that hit the top 5.

Their debut record which was a flop hit 72 and that’s the album that has that hit song “Shoots and Ladders”. Their first album didn’t become a huge hit ’til years later, though. Remember, they were controversial at first when they were first coming out.

Korn’s newest album “Requiem” fails to hit the top 10 this time around in the Billboard 200 but still no. 14 is decent.

https://loudwire.com/korn-requiem-album-chart-debut-sales-billboard/

I wouldn’t blame the band that they didn’t make it high in the charts this time. It’s still a great album and the best in the band’s career, in my opinion. You can blame the “anti-rock” music industry. Music industry is still dominated by pop, rap and country.

I take a look at the Billboard Charts lately and I haven’t heard most of the artists on it like WTF?

The new Korn is still pretty great though. It’s really too bad they couldn’t make it high on the Billboard this time. These days it’s tough for any rock and metal band to make it to the top 10 in the Billboard 200 when we have an “anti-rock” industry!

Korn is like the greatest heavy band going today, their new album “Requiem” is the best they’ve ever done!

I remember when Korn first started coming out in the mid 90’s, they were like the most controversial band at first. They were the most talked about band in the mid 90’s, I’ll never forget it. The band had good things and bad things said about them. Why were they controversial back in the day? Well, probably because of their down-tuned 7 string guitars and their look… the long braided hair, tattoos, pierces, eye-liner and all that stuff. People never saw or heard anything like them. They are still a bit controversial even today but it took a while for people to be able to accept them.

Love Korn or hate them all you want to, they are hit makers. They have plenty of songs that are considered mainstream hits. Obviously, they are still active as a band. They’ve had slight lineup changes ’cause I believe their guitar players Head and Munky been in and out of the band over the years, correct me if I’m wrong… but Head and Munky, they’ve been back in for a long while and they are still killer guitar players.

I think Korn’s past couple of albums have been really good shit but I think their newest album that they just put out “Requiem” is pretty slamming and it’s the best album in their career in my opinion. It’s a shorter album, it’s only about a half hour long but it still rocks. On “Requiem”, they still sound like Korn like they always do but it does sound slightly different than previous albums. They are maturing as songwriters for sure, I can tell. They get better every album.

I listened to their new album a couple of times and I’ve noticed that Jonathan Davis is really focused on his singing this time around. I am noticing lesser screaming and growling. There’s a lot more actual singing from Jonathan which he sounds amazing. There’s still a little screaming and growling on this record but not as much as their previous records… Jonathan doesn’t over do the growling this time. I guess Jonathan wants to prove that he can sing and not be just a growler which he did beautiful.

It’s also a tight as hell album, too. The guitar playing of Head and Munky, they still got the rhythm chops and they sound great. Brian “Head” Welch had always had my respect and he’s beginning to become one of my favorite metal guitarists.

I’d definitely recommend it for you metal fans. I love Korn, been listening to them ever since the 90’s. Have like 8 albums by them. Trying to get all their stuff too.

Thoughts on the Superbowl Halftime show of those rap artists and quick review of the game itself…

Okay some of you want to know my thoughts on the Superbowl last night. Yes, I did watch it… the whole thing.

First I wanna give my thoughts on the Superbowl Halftime performance of all those rappers. Everybody’s going off of how “great” it really was but I’m gonna be a bit honest and say that it was “so” and “so”. I thought Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Mary J. Blige were the best… in my opinion, I think the Superbowl Halftime show should have just been them three… 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem were not needed… I didn’t really care for those three guys but Dre, Snoop and Mary J…. YES! I know I know, some of you may be shocked that I liked Snoop since he is pretty left wing and a Trump hater himself but that’s okay. It was about the music for me, ya know and I thought Snoop was amazing and impressive last night. I’m not afraid to admit that Snoop is an amazing live performer and always has been. Dre too. I don’t know much about Mary J. but I think I’m gonna get into her music more and would like to start getting her albums. I actually loved her last night really.

Eminem? He’s a douche, I don’t like him anymore and it isn’t just politics that made me lost interest in him. I used to be a fan of of Eminem when I was younger, it’s just that his music is no longer interesting, ya know? I used to buy Eminem albums but I stopped.

As for the game itself, The Rams vs. The Bengals, I thought it was a great game. I was rooting for the Bengals myself ’cause they just made their Superbowl debut. The Bengals were newcomers to the Superbowl and toward the end of the game, I thought they had the game won but the Rams got ahead of them on the last minute. It was a very close game but very good.

and oh yeah, why was the Rock there last night? Well there’s a lot of complainers about that one and I wanna defend that one a little bit. The reason he was there is ’cause the stadium that last night’s Superbowl was at is gonna be the same stadium this year’s Wrestlemania is gonna be. The Rock was there not only to build up some hype for last night’s game but also build some hype for this year’s Wrestlemania. He was there for a “marketing” kind of thing, ya know? Crazy how a lot of people nowadays don’t understand wrestling.

It was an interesting Superbowl this year.

Dolly Parton responds to “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” nomination… she seems very flattered but even she doesn’t think she’s rock n’ roll enough…

The Rock and Hall of Fame got a lot of criticism over the years, with lots of people saying it’s not even Rock n’ Roll enough. Well, when the nominations came out for this year, it nominated legendary country singer, Dolly Parton. Well, Dolly herself responded during an interview with Billboard magazine… she says she’s floored and she seems very flattered by the nomination but it even confused her.

Dolly doesn’t consider herself “rock n’ roll”. She always considered herself as a strictly “country” artist and nothing more. Dolly’s been doing this since the late 60’s and she has like 50 studio albums in her discography pretty much. All of them country, although I’m sure some of her “country” music is kind of rock n’ roll a little bit.

Dolly says if she gets in, she’s planning to do a rock album like do rock music inspired by Linda Ronstadt and Heart kind of stuff which is kind of cool and would be a game changer.

Even Dolly is confused with the Hall of Fame like the rest of us.

Dolly Parton is one of the biggest names in country music and she seems like a very humble lady.

Yes, as long as she got the nomination, I think that’s an automatic induction, she’ll get in, I think. Even though it’s the wrong genre, lmao… but I do love Dolly, though. I have two albums by her: “Hello, I’m Dolly” and the “Jolene” album.

I respect her even more.

Hilarious seeing all the liberals crying about Joe Rogan like the saying goes, “if you don’t like it then don’t listen to it”… problem solved???

Waaaaaahhhhhhhhh, Joe Rogan said this and said that…. Waaaahhhhhhhhhhh…. he should be off of spotify simply because he has his own opinions and viewpoints than the left.

Bunch of crybabies like always.

And anyway how is Joe spreading misinformation? Is there any proof of that ’cause I haven’t seen any.

Neil Young is a good musician and good songwriter, I’m a fan too but I do think his politics and “save the earth” advocacy is annoying. It is funny that Neil goes around acting like such a “science” expert when he has a classic car collection that runs on gas at his ranch. Neil better be careful about being a “science” and “health” expert.

63 years since the Day the Music Died… RIP Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper…

63 years ago today, the Day the Music Died when a plane crash killed three young musicians after they played the Winter Dance Party concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Those musicians were Buddy Holly (22), Ritchie Valens (17) and The Big Bopper J.P. Richardson (28). Buddy and Ritchie were young kids… the Big Bopper was young too but he was a little older than the other two.

I wasn’t even born yet in 1959, lol…. but I’ll never forget and will always honor it every Feb. 3rd like I always try to do. I never listened to the Big Bopper much but I respected his legacy out of this… I do love listening to Buddy and Ritchie more, though.

I would think it had to be a sad day for America and Mexico too, of course. If that crash didn’t happen and these guys lived, I’m sure they would have completed that “Winter Dance Party” tour like they originally planned. If they didn’t get on that plane during a snowstorm then I’m sure things would have turned out differently. I’m a huge fan of Buddy and Ritchie, always loved listening to both of them… and remember if it wasn’t for them then Elvis and the Beatles wouldn’t have happened, in my opinion.

It may be 2022 and it may have happened 63 years ago but we’ll never forget these three. This was pretty much the beginning of “rock n’ roll”, remember that.

Thoughts on the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” nominees this year… or should I say? “Rock and Roll Hall of Shame”???

Like always, the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been having less and less “rock n’ roll” each year. Are they really “anti-rock” like a lot of people been saying? I would say so. We’ve been seeing more rap, country and pop in the Hall of Fame lately, it’s ridiculous. I used to defend the Hall of Shame but not anymore. I’m getting fed up with them myself and it’s much worse this year.

Not much for actual rock n’ roll this year with the exception of Judas Priest, Pat Benatar, Rage Against the Machine, MC5, Duran Duran and the New York Dolls.

Beck is rock n’ roll yes but he’s done just abut every genre… folk, country, rock, rap/hip hop, dance.

https://www.news5cleveland.com/entertainment/rock-roll-hall-of-fame-announces-nominees-for-2022-induction

Love Dolly but she don’t really belong, in my opinion.

So my picks for inductions would be Judas Priest ’cause they are more rock n’ roll than anything and they are another “rock” band that should have gotten an induction a long time ago. Another long overdue induction. I wouldn’t be surprised that Judas Priest get ignored this year.

I would also have to pick Pat Benatar, she gets nominated a lot but she never gets in… hoping and praying she gets it this year. Yeah, she’s “pop/rock” but her songs are more “rock n’ roll” than anything.

RATM are totally worthy even though I didn’t listen to them much over the years.

I’d also pick Duran Duran ’cause they’re great and totally worthy.

Lionel Ritchie and Eurythmics would get my vote too even though they fall in “pop/rock”.

The New York Dolls is also another long overdue induction that deserves to get in.

I wouldn’t be surprised that the rock bands and artists get ignored again and I’m sure Dolly, Eminem and A Tribe Called Quest will probably get in and not Judas Priest. *sigh*

I’m a huge Judas Priest fan even though I own a couple of albums by them, love their music. I hope they get it this time ’cause that’s another induction that is definitely long overdue. They totally deserve it. I won’t be surprised they get snubbed and you shouldn’t either.

Thoughts on the Joe Rogan vs. Neil Young feud… we can’t have “freedom of expression” anymore? What happened to that???

All day long the news and social media were going off on this Joe Rogan vs. Neil Young feud that just started. Neil Young, the legendary singer/songwriter (who I am a fan of myself) sends out a public threatening letter to Spotify to take his entire music catalouge off the platform simply because he didn’t want to be on the same platform as podcaster, Joe Rogan is on. Neil accuses Rogan of spreading misinformation about “covid-19” and “vaccines” without going into specifics and didn’t provide examples of how Joe is wrong on things.

I think it took Spotify a few days to do it, so they just did it… took Neil’s music off the platform. I think they only did it ’cause they did it out of fear of a possible “lawsuit” or something?

Anyway, Joe did nothing wrong as I’m just hearing that he just tells the truth and talks his opinions about covid, the pandemic and vaccines which he has every right to… ’cause this is America right? I also believe that Joe Rogan is getting attacked and hated on like crazy simply cause he found other ways to quickly recover from covid other than the vaccine. Joe found on his own other ways to recover quickly than what the media says and now everyone thinks Joe is a bad man?

So what if Joe is wrong about the things he says about covid is wrong? Does he deserve all this backlash, hatred and bullying from the media and the liberal left? No, he absolutely didn’t deserve all this backlash he’s getting. He got covid and found his own way to recover from it, how does that make him a bad person? The answer is people just can’t take the truth that there are other ways to recover from covid than what the media is teaching you.

I thought this was the United States of America? What happened to Freedom of Expression? If you want to believe that vaccines and masks work like sheep that’s fine. That’s your right to believe that but it’s also other people’s right to disagree with you. This is just typical left-wing behavior, nothing new… them attacking others ’cause they disagreed with them. It’s all part of the Saul Alinsky playbook. Nothing to see here.

Anyhow, what is Neil Young’s problem with Joe? Neil Young is an artist that nobody cares about anymore… I mean, Neil has only 6 million listeners in Spotify which technically is not good and that’s proof of it. Joe Rogan himself has more than 11 million listeners and tons of subscribers so what’s Neil’s problem? Jealous much?

I love Neil Young’s music and still do but at the same time, I think the guy is an arrogant asshole and always has been. I still do listen to Neil Young music but I’m allowed to disagree with him.

Joe is entitled to his opinions and beliefs. He’s allowed to say what he wants. Joe is a leftist guy himself but he has some right-wing opinions so I see Joe as a centrist kind of guy. His political views are mixed and I’m okay with that.

I’m a big podcast listener myself and I’ve listened to some of Joe’s show before.
