RIP: Jorge Gonzalez (aka Giant Gonzalez) 1966 – 2010

null

Jorge Gonzalez  was a professional wrestler who got his start in WCW as El Gigante. He then worked for the WWE in 1993, under the name of Giant Gonzalez, which he wore a fake muscular costume and a big bushy beard as you see in the picture above. His only feud in the WWE was against the Undertaker. Jorge left the WWE in October of 1993 to pursue a career in New Japan Pro Wrestling from 1994-95. Before Jorge’s professional wrestling career, he got his start in playing basketball because of his tall appearance. He was forced to quit playing basketball because of a serious injury he had in 1986. He came this close to being signed to the NBA, but did not make it. This is how he became a professional wrestler instead.

Around 1995, Jorge had to quit all sports because of his health. In Oct. of 2009, he got paralyzed for life and was put on a wheelchair. The 7 foot 7 tall, Jorge Gonzalez, died due to complications of diabetes. It is not known if he was ever married, but he has been best friends with legendary wrestling manager, Harvey Whippleman, for many years. Jorge was 44 years old.

Report: Darren Aronofsky added to the list of directors for Chris Nolan’s “Superman”…

“The Wrestler” and “Black Swan” director, Darren Aronofsky, has been added to the list of candidates to direct the next “Superman” movie. Collider, reports. I like this pick too. Why did Chris Nolan pick Aronofsky along with the other directors listed? While Aronofsky never did a superhero comic book movie before, I think Chris got interested in him because of his dramatic feel with, “The Wrestler”. That movie “The Wrestler”, did have a classic Christopher Reeve “Superman” feel, if you know what I mean. Darren mostly wrote and directed his own movies. He must be on board for this opportunity if he accepted to be on the list of candidates, so Darren must be a Superman fan. I remember Darren had plans to do a Robocop remake but those plans has been canceled.

I’m sure Chris will add a few more candidates of directors to the list. Who would I like to see get added?

Richard Donner, Robert Zemeckis, Jon Favreau, Gavin Hood (X: Men Origins “Wolverine” director), and Sam Raimi.

BREAKING NEWS: Max Weinberg…it’s confirmed, he’s done with Coco…

Max Weinberg, E Street Band drummer and longtime sidekick for Conan O’ Brien, Max announced he won’t be going to TBS with Conan. He’s done. No one knows why Max split with Conan. Steven Van Zandt, an E Street Band guitarist, doesn’t even know why either.

Lets hope that all this drama between Conan and NBC didn’t give Max, a headache. Either that, or Max wants to move on to other music opportunities? Maybe he wants to drum for Springsteen full time? Maybe Max has his own side project that he wants to get out there in the music world.

Honestly, I’m kind of glad he’ll be moving on. He’s too talented for TV and he should be drumming for other bands out there. I’m sure Max got big music plans up ahead of him.

Film Review: “Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”…

Starring: Joel Edgerton, Hugo Weaving, Helen Mirren, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush

Directed by: Zack Snyder

Today, I went and saw the movie, “Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” the latest film by Zack Snyder. Here is my review:

Plot/Synopsis: Soren is a young barn owl who enjoys hearing stories from his father, Noctus. Soren is an adventurous owl who loves to travel. Suddenly, Soren and his brother Kludd, is kidnapped by an evil owl named, Metalbeak. The villains Metalbeak and Nyra has an army named, “The Pure Ones”, and they believe that the owls who are Tytos which, the Tytos are Soren and Kludd are good enough to be trained to join, “The Pure Ones” army. The Tytos owls must try their best not to join, “The Pure Ones”, so they form an army for themselves to fight them off.

Well, this is the first time I have seen a new movie, in theater that is 3D. Seriously. I haven’t seen a new movie in 3D yet. See a new film in 3D was interesting. It is a little different than seeing a regular movie on the big screen. The picture is more fancier and prettier looking. I’ve been interested in seeing this film for a long time because the story seemed interesting to me. Some of you may think that this film is for kids, but really, this movie wasn’t made for kids. The movie was too dark and violent for kids to see. Yes, there was violence and action throughout most of the movie.

The special effects were way cool, it seemed realistic and not as cartoonish. What I loved the most about the film was the story. It was a pretty intelligent story. It was entertaining and enjoyable. It kept you entertained throughout the film. In the film, you would see owls try to kill each other and rip each other apart, that’s how violent it is. When I was in the theater watching this, there wasn’t any kids at all in the audience. It wasn’t very packed in the theater I was in, but there maybe about several adults in there watching the film. I thought the characters were great, especially the main villain, Metalbeak, which he is a real badass. The cast did a good job with the voice overs and the scoring of the music was done right as well.

I’m not into animated flicks much. I don’t watch too many Disney movies or Pixar movies, but I was too impressed with, “Legends of the Guardians”. This is the same guy who did “300” and “Watchmen”. “Legends of the Guardians” was great because it really didn’t feel like a film for the whole family to watch. All these happy and fun Disney/Pixar flicks get boring and old after a while. “Legends of the Guardians” is a different animated movie than the rest of them. I’m glad they finally made an animated movie that kids won’t be able to see. I loved the whole movie all around, and so far, this is one of my favorite films I’ve seen all year. I was totally blown away by this film. Hopefully this film will land a nomination for “Best animated feature” for the next Oscars, ’cause I do see Oscar potential for this film here.

You should definitely check this movie out! Oh yeah, and before the movie opens, you will see a new Wiley E. Coyote and Road Runner “Looney Tunes” short in 3-D as well.

Score for “Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Not a Cool Video: Scooby continues to be a moron…

This is not what Jack Lalanne would have done if he was still doing his TV show today. In fact, Jack would be embarrassed if he ever saw this video. I mean, listen to Scooby, he’s negative throughout most of it. Jack would have told people to “spit it out” in a positive manner. Jack wouldn’t take junk food in his mouth and spit it out, like this idiot did. Junk food is wrong to eat while bodybuilding, that’s true, it won’t get you anywhere, indeed…but keep in mind that protein powders, protein shakes, Whey Protein, etc. All that stuff is man made too. Scooby drinks Whey protein powders, which makes him a bit of a hypocrite when he tells people to avoid man made stuff.

Watch this video if you dare, if you could stomach a 50 year old man spitting food out. I don’t find this funny at all.

Top 15 Favorite Horror Films of all time…

It’s that time of year again. October is around the corner and Halloween is nearing us. This is the time where people would start watching horror films all month. I do this list every year, sometimes the list is the same but sometimes it can be a little different with the new horror films that come out. Here is my list of my top 15 favorite horror films that I would recommend you to watch in Oct.

Here is my list, enjoy:

  1. Halloween II (Rob Zombie version): The film has been hated by critics and fans, but in my opinion, I didn’t find anything wrong with the movie at all. In fact, I thought it was the best Halloween movie ever made and it’s how the Halloween series should have been. I thought the film was well written and directed, it was actually kind of creepy as well. I always think that those who don’t like this movie, don’t understand the horror genre at all. It’s not only the best Halloween movie ever made, it’s one of my favorite horror films I’ve seen in a long time. This film is that brilliant, LOVE IT!
  2. Halloween (Carpenter version): This is a classic, had to put this one in there. It’s one of those movies you can watch so many times and never get tired of it. You learn something new every time you watch this film.
  3. Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn: This has always been my favorite Evil Dead film of them all.
  4. The Exorcist: A film I watch on every Halloween pretty much. This film is a masterpiece. Love the story of Regan and the epic performance of Max Von Sydow.
  5. Friday the 13th (remake): This may shock some people, but I thought the Friday remake was very impressive. I actually thought it was better than the originals, and the Jason Voorhees character in this film was more human and realistic. That’s pretty much why I liked it so much.
  6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake): The original Tobe Hooper version was ok, but that movie was kind of annoying hearing that girl scream throughout the entire film. This version didn’t have that. The remake was actually much scarier than the original too.
  7. The Omen (original): To throw another classic in there, I would have to list “The Omen” with Gregory Peck. It’s been one of my most watchable movies on Halloween night for a long time.
  8. Frailty: A film written and directed by Bill Paxton who also stars the leading role in. He plays a father who turns out to be a vicious serial killer. An excellent movie all around. Scary too.
  9. Wolf Creek: A film about a bunch of young travelers who go hiking in the Australian Outback, they run into a guy who pretends to help those kids, but guess what folks? He’s a serial killer! Go figure!
  10. The Strangers: A film that stars Liv Tyler, a young couple who’s on vacation. Her longtime boyfriend proposes to her but she said no. The couple gets strange visitors by three masked people. This film is scary and creepy as hell. I would recommend it.
  11. Quarantine: This film tells a story about a TV news reporter who films a documentary about firemen. The firemen and the TV reporter go investigate this building which they get trapped in, but they get strange visitors too, it’s a zombie film. This film got mixed opinions by viewers but I absolutely loved it!
  12. Paranormal Activity: A lot of people hated this film, but I liked it. I look forward to the sequel as well.
  13. The Ring (remake): Only the first one with Naomi Watts was a real good movie, didn’t care for the second one.
  14. Stephen King’s “The Mist”: To throw a Stephen King movie in there, I would have to throw in “The Mist”. Why “The Mist”? It was a creative story, it was an edge of your seat kind of movie and Thomas Jane pulled off a great performance in this film. I thought it was a great flick.
  15. The Others: A nice ghost story that has a big twist at the end. A great film that stars Nicole Kidman.

Don’t get mad if I don’t list any of the important classics, so many great horror films out there. I just listed the ones that were my favorites. Enjoy!

Happy 96th Birthday: Jack Lalanne…

This is a tribute post dedicated to the real fitness guru, “The Godfather of Fitness”, Jack Lalanne. Everybody knows that this was the man that started it all. Well bodybuilding actually started many, many, many, years ago of course, but Jack Lalanne was the one who helped make bodybuilding mainstream and popular in the 1950’s. He is a true bodybuilding and fitness pioneer. People might look after other iconic fitness guru’s such as: Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren, Lou Ferrigno, Gunnar Peterson, Jillian Michaels, etc. but in reality, they aren’t real. They give out fake bodybuilding information for money. Not with Jack Lalanne. Back in the 1950’s, Jack had to do everything the real way because back in those days: supplements, protein bars, protein shakes, expensive workout equipment, etc. weren’t around back then. So he had to do workouts and nutrition the old fashion way. He still workouts and does the same routine to this day, which is why he is still here at 96. This man proves that it doesn’t matter what age you are to get fit and healthy, it can happen to anybody.

Jack is a true hero in the fitness world and this is why everyone in the fitness community worships this guy. They don’t call him, “The Godfather of Fitness” for nothing. While he always complained about the food that people eat that makes them fat, he always said things in a nice and calm way, to get people motivated. He’s never negative about bodybuilding and fitness. He became famous for his workout and nutrition TV show, “The Jack Lalanne Show” which ran for 34 years. See some clips in the videos below. This guy is a real badass! Happy Birthday Jack!

Game Review: Mafia II

So I finished the game, “Mafia II”. Yep, I just beat the whole game. I thought the game play was pretty simple even though I was playing it on the Hard level. There was only one level that I had difficulty on which was Chapter 14, in the Warehouse area. It took me a while to get by that part, but I did it today.

The story is about a young man, named Vito Scarletta, who is a World War II veteran. The game is taken place in San Fransisco, California during the 1940’s – 1950’s. Vito is best friends with, Joe Barbaro who is a career criminal. If Vito wanted a better life and make some money, Joe dragged him into working for three different Mafia families. Vito is very much a hero in the game as he likes to stick up for good people and take down the badguys. While Vito and Joe are making lots of cash committing crimes, bad things would happen to them around the corner. Throughout the game is pretty much about survival and revenge.

My thoughts on the game? I wish the game play could be a little bit harder, but what I liked about the most was the storyline. The storyline can be very powerful and emotional in some parts. Good voice acting by the cast. The game was very violent and graphic. The game has female nudity but only in the Playboy magazines which Vito have to find. I couldn’t find all the Playboy magazines in the game, but maybe someday down the road, I’ll play the game over again and try to find them all.

There is probably going to be a third one because this story isn’t over yet. The next one will probably be taken place in a different city though. Vito Scarletta is a great character. I never played the first Mafia game ’cause that one isn’t available for the PS3. These Mafia games are similar to the Grand Theft Auto series. I really enjoyed, “Mafia II” a lot. It was a mind blowing game. I thought it told a powerful story. If you like Mobster stories like I do, you would enjoy this one.

Score for “Mafia II” = **** (4 stars as in”excellent”)

“Weird” Al Yankovic posts a photo on twitter impersonating himself…

This is what “Weird” Al Yankovic, used to look like in the 80’s and early 90’s. Big curly hair, glasses, mustache, etc. He obviously doesn’t look like that anymore.”Weird” Al decided to go back to his old image for Halloween. Here he is, wearing the costume of his old image that he used to have.

Honestly, I miss the old “Weird” Al look. I don’t really like how he looks now. I wish he kept his old image but it’s understandable why he doesn’t want to look like that the rest of his life.
