Cool Photos: Your first official look at the upcoming “Carrie” remake, here…

Two photos have been released from the upcoming “Carrie” remake. One photo is Chloe Moretz as Carrie White drenched in blood (not sure if it’s pigs blood from the prom scene, probably is) and the other photo is Julianne Moore as Carrie White’s crazy mother.

See the photos, here.

Looking good so far. Lets see a trailer soon please!

Report: Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Vivienne, to follow mother’s footsteps in acting?

When Angelina Jolie got her start at acting, she had her acting debut at 7 years old for a small cameo, in the 1982 film, “Lookin’ To Get Out”. Keep in mind that the entire Jolie/Voight clan are actors, which is how Angie got into the business. Disney announced, that Angie’s 4 year old, Vivienne, will have a cameo in the upcoming, “Maleficient”, film.

More on the story, here.

Could Vivienne grow up to be a huge movie like her, Mom? Wouldn’t surprise me that Angie and Brad could turn their kids into aspiring actors. It would give them something to be proud of when Angie and Brad retire from film.

One final note on “Local Legends Live” in Albany…

People are mad that an out of area musician named Mike Doughty headlining, “Live Local Legends”? Well after looking up each band booked for the festival, I have discovered that there are two other out of town bands that are booked for the festival too. The band Catching Cadence is from Wynanstkill, N.Y., which I believe is way out of the Capital District area and Happy Birthday Dr. Jim is from Cobleskill (I don’t think that’s a Capital District town either).

You see, the point I’m trying to make, your band can become well known and established in any city, and anywhere in the world. Don’t have to be just your hometown. So anybody that says that out of area bands/musicians can’t headline big shows when it’s aimed for “local” acts is absolutely absurd. Like I said previously, as long as a band or artist who is not from this area is making a name for themselves here, they can still be considered “local”. As long as they play shows around here on a regular basis, they are more than welcome to become an established act here.

You see, a local music scene is a public place. You can become big and iconic anywhere in any area. Another example, I remember the band Vesper won the first “Battle of the Bands” competition at SPAC, and they are a New York City band, but they played shows here constantly and they were still considered, a Capital District band.

I hope you get my point now? So even if Mike Doughty isn’t from here, and he plays here on a regular basis, he is still, a “Capital District” musician.

I’ll shut up about this now. Just had to get that off my chest.

Edit to add: When a band is serious about making it in the music industry, they must get well known everywhere as they possibly can. It seems to be the only way to get record deals these days, so I think it’s kind of cool that out of town bands/artists come around here. Local music is welcome for everyone, all over.

Brock talks more on “Local Legends Live” fest in Albany…

After doing a little more research on “Local Legends Live” fest, that got local people talking in other blogs, I just wanted to find out what these festivals are originally supposed to be about. Basically, the whole point of “Local Legends Live” in Albany are for bands that are pretty hot around here. Getting bigger to the point where your band is about to make it big in the music industry. The show is for bands who have accomplished a lot. Some of these bands may not be legends to you, but from the area that they are from, they probably have created quite a legacy in their hometown. This is how EBJ and the other bands on the bill qualifies.

Mike Doughty, who is the former front man of Soul Coughing, he’s being attacked at Nippertown as well. They’re claiming that an out of towner musician shouldn’t headline a local legends fest, when there are other local bands who are legends around here. They think that Mike Doughty headlining the “Legends Fest” takes away the talent from around here, since he is from New York City, and he’s not actually from the Capital District. Excuse me, folks, but to be fair to Mike Doughty, he has performed around the area many times in the past. He has grew a pretty large following around here too, and he has made quite a name for himself in Capital District area. Just because a musician is not actually from this this area, doesn’t mean they aren’t welcome here. There have been out of area bands who have created a large following in the Capital District before, I’ve seen it. Whether you agree with it or not, when an out of town musician/band becomes well known here, that means they are considered Capital District established acts too. Right? Think about it. Mike Doughty is pretty big around here, no matter what you think of it. I listened to some of Mike’s music in youtube and it’s actually very good stuff. Sorry to say guys, but Mike headlining the fest is a good idea.

Some of you say that Mike Doughty is not a legendary musician? Of course, he is! Look at all the stuff he has accomplished over the years, even though it seems that he is unsigned. He did quite a lot and he’s a hard working guy.

Yep, the organizers of this festival are doing good, and they know what they’re doing, clearly. Don’t listen to Nippertown, that’s a shit blog anyway.

As for the previous posts, I was only trying to stick up for EBJ. If I see that the music scene treats EBJ unfairly or criticizes the band in any way, you can expect me to respond and defend them on this blog.

The topic of being a “local legend” sparks debate online…

A lot of people are slamming the title of the Festival in Albany, “Local Legends” fest. They claim that the title is misleading and says that being a “local legend” doesn’t qualify here. You see, this where I disagree. Being a local legend can be possible in your home town. Just like you can be a national legend in whatever career someone does, whether you’re a music legend or sports legend, whatever, the same applies for being local. You may not be nationally famous but it can be possible that you can be “locally” famous in some way. A minor celebrity, type of thing. So I really think Albany knows what they’re doing when they call a Festival “Local Legends” and booking the most popular acts on the fest.

There has been local acts from the past who has been considered “legendary” before. Acts I can think of at the top of my head: Ernie Williams, Section 8, Attica, Small Axe, the Kamikaze Hearts, Phantogram, Conehead Buddha, the Figgs, Dryer, Hungry Jack, Super 400, the Lawn Sausages, etc. Those were just some of the bands that were considered legends around here.

Again, it is possible to have a “legacy” of a music career in your hometown. Usually when people attack the idea of being a “local legend”, they could possibly be a little jealous of their accomplishments.

I never saw myself as a “legend” or a rock star, whatever, but people have told me that stuff before. The fact of the matter is, that when you’re getting the whole town calling you a legend locally, then you probably are. I think Albany is doing the right things with their fest and I think they know what they’re doing.

EDIT TO ADD: Btw, Local Legends Fest looks pretty fun, and I’m probably gonna go, and support.

Soundgarden announces new album titled, “King Animal” for a Fall release this year…

The mighty Soundgarden, just announced new details finally of their upcoming new album they planned, a while back. The name of the new album will be titled, “King Animal”, slated for a Fall release date. You can hear a preview of a new song off the album on this website, here.

As a big Soundgarden fan, I’m looking forward to hearing what they have in store for us musically. From the sound of things, sounds like they’re going back to their old school sound they had back in the 80’s. I don’t think this will be another, “Down On the Upside” album, which was their previous album released in 1996.

I’m definitely looking forward to the new album.

Report: First Universal Studios drops, “The Dark Tower”, now Warner Bros. refuses to make it…

For reasons unknown, Warner Bros., all of a sudden refuses to make Ron Howard’s “The Dark Tower” series adapted from, Stephen King. First Universal bails out, now WB’s.

Variety reports.

While I do want these movies to be made into big screen movies and TV shows, honestly, I can understand why no studio wants to make it so far. Why? The Dark Tower has a total of 7 books. Ron wants to make 3 big screen movies and 2 mini series, which would be a bit too hectic for a studio to work on. Plus, I’m willing to bet, the budget is the problem. It’s going to be a very expensive project. Would probably cost billions to get these made. It would require a lot of CGI work and stuff ’cause of the different world that Roland is in. It’s going to be very challenging to bring these to the screen.

They’ll probably negotiate with Paramount next, but they probably won’t do it either. They might as well scrap the project if no one wants to do it. Even Javier Bardem don’t even want to do it anymore. This sounds like a pretty overwhelming project. Maybe Ron oughta shorten it up a bit, if he’s serious about this.

Film Review: The Expendables 2

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, and Jean Claude Van Damme
Directed by: Simon West

Earlier today, I just saw “The Expendables 2”. I did do a little shopping today, the only thing I picked up was, the “Jaws” Blu Ray which I’m looking forward to checking out. I’ve seen Spielberg’s “Jaws” too many times, but I’m just curious on how the film would look and sound on Blu. The “Jaws” Blu is pretty popular and selling fast, so I was curious on it. It is a classic Spielberg movie and one of his best. Now on with my review of “The Expendables 2”

Plot/synopsis: Mr. Church (Willis) reunites, “The Expendables” team, where he puts them on a mission that they need to retrieve an item from a safe that was on an airplane that was shot down in Albania. The Expendables team, gets two new recruits to join their group Billy (Hemsworth), and Maggie (Yu-Nan, a Chinese actress). While the team successfully gets the item from the plane, Billy is kidnapped by Jean Vilain (Van Damme). Without giving spoilers, one of the Expendables group is killed, so the rest of the Expendables do a mission of their own. To hunt down Jean Vilain and kill him.

When the first movie came out in 2010, the film got mixed reviews. You either loved the first one or hated it. Well it seems that Sly listened to the reviews. So he said, “Ah, to hell with it. I’m not going to direct the next one, I’ll pass the torch to someone else”. Sly just wanted to see if someone else could make the next film better… and surprisingly enough, the film was better. A MUCH BETTER FILM, than the last one.

As the movie opens, the action will start right off the bat. Kicking you in the ass hard, and the movie will immediately put you on the edge of your seat. The action was a lot more violent than the last one. The action scenes lasted longer too! Once an action scene starts it can go on for a good 20 to 30 minutes or more. It was indeed a thrill ride of an action movie. You can tell it was done the old school way. It clearly reminded me of those action films you see from the 80’s. That’s the whole point of “The Expendables” movies. They wanted a true action movie, that won’t be a CGI fest like most movies are nowadays.

The writing is definitely better than the last one. This one was more of an action/comedy, I had a few laughs at some of the jokes during the film. Especially the scene when Chuck Norris was first introduced. Did you know that they actually used one of his Chuck Norris facts (HINT: King Cobra)? It was great to finally see Chuck Norris in a big movie on the big screen after years of making straight to video films. The same can be said for Jean Claude Van Damme. It was finally great to see him on the big screen too. I thought Van Damme’s character, Jean Vilain, was one of the greatest movie villains I’ve seen in a long time. Van Damme did a great job in that role. I’m also happy to see Arnold back on the big screen in a major way. It’s nice to finally see him shooting machine guns again!

Of course, the character that continues to impress me the most is Dolph’s character, Gunner. He is a pretty special character and he’s the one that you would want to pay attention to the most out of the entire group. The first movie, Dolph misbehaved pretty badly, but now he’s a good guy in this one, obviously. In all honesty, Dolph’s character over the two films was never looked at as a villain, in my opinion. I think he was just confused on who he really is. My only complaint about this movie, is that I wished they used Jet Li more. He got lesser screen time in this one. Yes, Jet Li did get into a few good fight scenes, but his character is so cool. Just like the first movie, they didn’t use him much either. I also think they needed to do more with Randy Couture as well. Of course, with so many iconic action stars in one movie, it’s hard to give each guy a lot of screen time, so they try to give everyone a chance to shine as much as they can.

With all this being said, this was a thrill ride of an action movie. It was pretty breathtaking and will kick your ass. I had a smile on my face during the big gun battle toward the end of the film, when Arnold and Bruce both got into the action. Sly was real good in it too, of course. His fight scene with Jean Claude at the end of the film, was just epic.

This was indeed a major improvement than the last one, and I’m already looking forward to “EXP3”. So far, “EXP2” is one of the best films of 2012.

Score for “The Expendables 2” = **** (4 stars as in “excellent”)

Edit to add: Got the name of the director wrong, corrected it…

“The Expendables 2” premiere in Hollywood made me wish I was there…

I remember last year, when I visted Hollywood on vacation, I got to witness the “J. Edgar” Clint Eastwood movie premiere at the Chinese Grauman theater. Now with the “Expendables 2” premiere happened there not too long ago, makes me wish I was at Hollywood this year. Why? Because Sly was there. He took his whole family there, in fact, see photo, here. Sly even took some time to sign autographs for fans, see photo, here.

DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! I’m just slamming my head against the computer desk, making me wish I was at Hollywood to witness the EXP2 premiere. That would have been my chance to meet Sly and get his autograph! GRRrrrrrrrr….

Oh well, hopefully, I’ll get my chance to meet Sly sometime down the road. You can see, that he loves his fans though. He’s very good with them.

I’m going to see, “EXP2”, later today. Gonna head to the mall in a little bit. I’ll be doing a little shopping today to pick up a few things as well.

RIP: Tony Scott 1944 – 2012

Today is a sad day for Hollywood, because legendary film maker, Tony Scott, committed suicide by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in, Los Angeles. Now, most everyone have seen his flicks over the years with iconic films such as “Beverly Hills Cop II”, “Top Gun”, “Days of Thunder”, “The Last Boy Scout, “True Romance”, “Man on Fire”, “The Taking of Pelham 123”, “Crimson Tide”, “Enemy of the State”, etc. He has worked with Tom Cruise two times, and worked with Denzel Washington, 5 times.

Tony got his start in film making at the age of 16, when he starred in Ridley Scott’s short film, “Boy and Bicycle”. Tony then followed his brother’s footsteps in film directing after. Tony got his start in film directing doing TV commercials first through Ridley’s company, Ridley Scott’s Associates. Tony originally wanted to make documentaries first, but his brother Ridley, urged Tony to make films. In 1983, Tony had interest in adapting Anne Rice’s legendary vampire book, “Interview with the Vampire” to the big screen, but the film was already in development. So Tony made his directorial debut with the vampire film, “The Hunger” instead which stars David Bowie and Susan Sarandon.

Tony’s final projects before his death were he produced, “The A-Team” movie with Ridley, and he also was executive producer for “The Good Wife”. He also executive produced, a TV mini series called, “Coma”, which is set to air later this year. His final directed film was, “Unstoppable”, which starred Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Tony Scott was 68 years old, he is survived by his wife Donna and their two sons.
