How to promote your shows without sounding like a huge megalomaniac…

You gotta love how bands promote their gigs in social networking sites in facebook, and other places online. When bands & solo artists promote their gigs, a lot of them like to write a little something about it. Just their way of getting people excited so they can come out. I understand their marketing ways but there are certain ways of doing it, and yes it does matter. People take what bands write seriously. Make no mistake about it. They really do.

Before you write something when you promote your gigs, whether in facebook, your website, newsletters, etc., where ever, please re-read what you write a couple of times before hitting that “Post” button. Ask yourself, “Will people like what I wrote”? When you want people to take your show advertisement seriously, then you got to leave your ego out of things. Try not to make your write up about the gig too negative and be careful not to try and sound much like an egotist.

Instead of saying stuff like: “Come on out to this kick ass show, we got a great set planned and about to melt some faces.”. (which I see bands write stuff like this often)

How about saying stuff like: “Have no plans this weekend? If not, it would be cool if you could come out and hear us.” (See how kind and courteous that is? It’s not rude and demanding. Asking people if they want to come out, instead of begging is a better way to do it.)

Or even better, don’t say anything at all and just post the gig information or flyer alone.

You have to be careful and not try to turn people off with your advertising. Don’t always think that your shows are going to be great. You need to let the music speak on it’s own, and let the fans tell you that your shows are great. You NEVER tell the public that you’re about to play a great show. Too many bands make this mistake these days.

This is how I always promoted my shows over the years. How are you going to play a great show when you haven’t played it yet? Whenever I get a gig, I can never tell when I’m gonna play a great show. I just go to my gig, play it, get it over with, and let the feedback come to me. I understand that bands want to try and make themselves look good by saying they’re about to play a killer show, but the people will make you look good if you don’t say things like that.

Letting the music speak on it’s own is pretty important. I always took it seriously.

Report: Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher finally in negotiations for “Star Wars 7” but what about Lando???

All three of them has reportedly said, they were willing to return to their roles for the next, “Star Wars” film, but none of them have signed contracts yet. Look like they are finally getting close to a deal ’cause anonymous sources say, the three cast members are in negotiations to reprise their roles.

While it’s exciting news that Han, Leia, and Luke are returning but what about Lando? So far, Billy Dee Williams have been silent about the new Star Wars. We haven’t heard anything from him. So far, Disney/Lucasfilm haven’t even asked, Billy Dee. So I’m hoping, Lando, will come back being played by the same actor. If they don’t get Lando at all, I expect the Star Wars geeks to start online petitions. I hope they don’t ignore Lando, ’cause he was a cool character.

I know a lot of people are skeptical of JJ doing Star Wars, but I think he’ll do it justice. I hope the new movies will still have the same vibe of the original trilogy, but of course, it will also have a current feel with today’s technology.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing how they’re gonna pull this off. It’s pretty intriguing to me.

Thank you, Senator Rand Paul!!!!

You see guys, when I point all the bad things Obama has said and done on this blog, I don’t make these things up! I carefully research these things and other people know about this stuff. I’ve been saying for a long time in this blog now, that Obama and our government have been murdering people at random with drones. Killing all kinds of foreign people and Americans. That’s what makes Obama a hypocrite when he stands up for violence in America. Get with it, people. Obama is a violent, hateful and evil man himself.

And finally, somebody in the world of politics, called him out on the drones! If there was ever a guy that can bring the government’s attention that Obama needs to be impeached and be charged with treason, it’s Rand Paul that should help make that happen for us! All he have to do next is call Obama and Eric Holder out for “Operation: Fast and Furious”, and then we should be on the way for an impeachment on Obama.

Obama doesn’t stay faithful to the Constitution.

You see guys, I believe in my country. I love the USA. So I totally support the Constitution, 100%. That’s part of why I’m a proud registered Republican, and why I like conservatism. I’m sure all the Obama lovers are like, “Oh no, Rand Paul is attacking Obama like a hateful little racist bigot he is, boo hoo hoo…”. You see, I have nothing against a black man being president, and I’m sure everyone else doesn’t either. We just want a guy who does his job right, and Obama doesn’t do that. Just because he’s black, is not stopping us from being real about him. All the bad stuff Obama has done is out there publicly, and the Obama supporters constantly want to ignore everything and think he’s innocent. He is far from innocent.

Rand Paul, now has my full support, and I hope he decides to run for President in 2016. Rand has got a lot of Ron Paul in him, for sure.

Report: Carrie Fisher says she’s game for Star Wars return, but no confirmation from Lucasfilm yet…

Carrie Fisher, had an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated, and of course, they couldn’t resist asking if she would reprise her role as Princess Leia for, “Star Wars 7”. She replied back with a simple, “Yes”. That was it. So Entertainment Weekly, contacted Lucasfilm themselves, and the folks at Lucasfilm said that they haven’t even started casting yet. I expect the casting to start pretty soon, though.

I don’t know how they are going to pull off Princess Leia in the new, Star Wars. Carrie Fisher used to be beautiful and gorgeous in her younger years, but now look at her. Carrie looks way different today. I’m sure she still has what it takes to play Princess Leia just fine, but she may look a little bit different. Of course, it wouldn’t surprise me that Lucasfilm will try to make Carrie look younger and beautiful with the power of make up effects, and computerized air brushing. They can easily make her the beautiful Princess still, but she will be a little older.

Will Leia be married to Han Solo and they have a few kids together? Luke will mentor those kids and train them to be Jedi’s? I’m sure that’s the plot they’re going for, but I hope they’ll have  more of a story than that, honestly, I think mentors training the younger generations in fictional movies is getting old. They already have the same idea with, Ghostbusters 3.

See the story at, Entertainment Weekly.

BREAKING NEWS: Sam Mendes says no to directing Bond 24…

Despite all the positive reviews of “Skyfall” and the huge box office numbers, Sam Mendes says no to directing Bond 24, due to other commitments. He is scheduled to direct, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and “King Lear” films, and his focus on those two movies. Shame, I was hoping he would give Bond another shot, ’cause “Skyfall”, was a pretty amazing flick and it is indeed, the best Bond film ever made, in my opinion.

I almost bought “Skyfall” on BluRay yesterday, but ended up getting the new “Tomb Raider” game instead.

I don’t think other directors will make a good Bond film after this one, though. They will go downhill again.

See the director’s statement, here.

RIP: Paul Bearer 1954 – 2013

Like most people in the wrestling community, I am heartbroken and devastated by this news. Paul Bearer (real name: William Moody), was a childhood hero of mine as well. He was an important figure in the wrestling industry, and he was a huge part of what made wrestling great. He is most famous for being the longtime manager for Undertaker and Kane, he is also the father of those characters story line wise. In the earlier days, he also managed Ravishing Rick Rude, and Stunning Steve Austin (before he was Stone Cold).

Even though William Moody retired from wrestling a long while back, he occasionally made appearances once in a while. His last appearance on WWE RAW was back in April of 2012, during Kane’s feud with Randy Orton (see video below of Paul Bearer’s latest WWE appearance). Paul Bearer has always been one of the greatest characters in wrestling. He started off as a scary and evil character, but now that character is loved by everybody. His white face and his scary high pitched speaking voice.

Now that Paul Bearer, has passed away don’t expect CM Punk to break the Undertaker’s streak at ‘Mania. Undertaker will win again, no matter what happens, in honor of Paul. Even though this story was reported on WWE.com, I hope this isn’t a wrestling angle to hype up this match ’cause that would be dumb of WWE. It wouldn’t surprise me if the WWE turns this into a story line and fake his death ’cause the Undertaker/Kane thing has always been mysterious, something to keep in mind. So I don’t fully trust this news source, yet, but I’m posting the obit anyway. Paul Bearer was 58 years old.

How to deal with those nasty musician critics…

So you’re a musician wanting to be part of your local music scene. You want to get recognized for your talent and become part of the musicians community. No matter how good of a person you are, or how good your music is, chances are, you will come across a handful of musicians who are going to be critical about you. They will criticize who you are as a person. They will criticize your playing or singing, and musicianship. They will tell you what’s okay and what’s not okay to say. They will also not be afraid to tell you whether or not they like you or your music. If they feel that your talent is not professional enough or you have lack of success in your music, they will constantly look at you as a music fan, instead of a musician. You want to move forward and get heard like everyone else, and you keep getting other musicians trying to put you down and destroy your dreams. Like always, you will come across a bunch of huge egos who will think they’re better than you, and they will act like they’re know it alls.

I’ve dealt with all kinds of bullshit, I’ve explained above. I’m just speaking from experience here. I hate the way this is myself. It’s pretty dumb. I wish all musicians would stop the criticism of others and support everyone, but it’s obviously not going to be like that. A lot of musicians out there are pretty anti-social to those who don’t have the same success as they have or if their musicianship is not on a professional level. If you have lack of success in your music and struggling to get recognized, you will get accused of being an amateur/hobbyist, kind of musician.

With me? I never cared who’s bigger than who or who’s more talented than who. I’ve always treated musicians the same. I treat them all as real people. Congratulations if you have success in music and I’m sure you are a very talented musician but… that doesn’t make you a better person than everyone else.

If you want to be part of the local musicians community, you want to look after the musicians who respect you in return and look after the ones who believe in you. They will be out there, the ones who will support you, every step of the way. You’re still the same old local resident and a local musician. The reason I believe musicians think it’s okay to be critical of others is because they believe their criticism is right. That’s how they got where they are. They speak from experience. The last thing you want to do is listen to the criticism of other musicians. Do not get feedback of your music and don’t take advice from anybody. No matter how established they are. They want to act like know it alls ’cause of their skill and success that got them there. Hard to explain, but I think you’ll understand where I’m coming from.

If you need feedback on your songs, I wouldn’t just throw my songs on the internet and have other musicians comment on it ’cause that’s gonna do nothing but get mixed responses. If you want to make sure your song is good enough, don’t make your song public yet. Send your songs privately to other people you know well and can trust, he/she will let you know if it’s good or not. This is what I plan to do from now on before I put my future songs out there publicly.

The thing is, music is not about pleasing other musicians. It’s about pleasing yourself and the fans who actually like it. You need to concentrate on your music and getting it out there to the people who do like. Don’t worry about other musicians not liking you. It’s your own music career, that you need to worry about. If you’re having a tough time trying to be accepted in the local musicians community, fuck it. As long as you’re proud of your music and love what you do, that’s all that should matter.

I’ve always had a mixed reaction in the local musicians community. I have some musicians who respect the hell out of me and there are some that hate me. Don’t worry about it. The key to moving forward and becoming more successful in music, is not listening to anybody at all. Just be yourself, play the music, and that’s it. It’s all about believing in yourself. If musicians and other people want to hate, let ’em hate. The more they hate, the more it proves your success and your popularity. All the hate I got over the years, is part of how I got myself out there to begin with, lmao.

Cool Video: Watch Sean Rowe & Railbird on Jimmy Kimmel…

In case you missed Sean Rowe & Railbird jamming together on Jimmy Kimmel last night, here’s the video. I was pretty impressed with the performance. It was pretty tight. Railbird did a great job. Sean Rowe and the band Railbird, are all musicians from the Troy/Albany, N.Y. area. Sean Rowe is mainly an acoustic solo act, he collaborates with the band, Railbird often.

Sean didn’t go from playing small bars/cafes to landing a national TV gig for nothing. He worked his ass off and he came a long way for sure. Sean Rowe is proof that any musician or band can go forward and make the big time, doesn’t matter where you live. Congrats to Sean and Railbird.

I would admit, however though, I would like to get the same successes with my own music. I would love to get big. Move forward and get recognized for my music like any musician would.

Enjoy the performance below. I expect more upcoming TV performances for Sean in the future. Jimmy Fallon, Letterman, Leno? Possibly. This is just the beginning of Sean’s fame. I have a feeling, he will become a big mainstream artist in the future.

Report: Randy Blythe, Lamb of God singer, is finally a free man!!!

I’m pretty sure Lamb of God fans and the metal community are all jumping up and down, being all excited and stuff ’cause Randy Blythe is finally a free man. He’s been acquitted in Prague today!

More on the story, here.

As a Lamb of God fan myself, I’d say that’s good news. I saw Lamb of God in concert a few years back when they opened for Metallica. Now they can get back to doing music, work on a new album and go on tour soon.

What did I watch on TV last night?

Last night, I watched the new “Walking Dead” episode, and after that, I watched the new “Vikings” show on the History Channel. I loved the “Vikings” premiere too. It’s a pretty cool show. Not a lot of you know this, but I have a huge interest in Vikings and Medieval stuff. Here’s a hint, why do you think I love “Game of Thrones”, so much? And why, do you think I play the game, “Skyrim”? I’ll be watching “Vikings” every Sunday now so you can add that show to the list of good TV shows that I watch this year. Is prime time TV getting much better or what? There are like 5 or 6 shows I watch this year, it’s crazy. Lets list them all… “Dexter”, “Breaking Bad”, “Sons of Anarchy”, “Walking Dead”, “House of Cards”, and now you can add “Vikings” to that growing list. TV used to be garbage but it’s slowly getting better.

I didn’t bother watching that History channel original movie, “The Bible”, ’cause I have no interest in religion.

Tonight, I’ll be watching “Old School RAW”, and after that I’ll be watching Jimmy Kimmel ’cause Sean Rowe will be performing on there. If you’re going to watch Jimmy Kimmel for the Sean Rowe performance, set your DVR’s tonight.

You see, I watch very little TV. I don’t watch TV during the day. I try not to anyway. I watch all the TV at night when the good shows that I like are on. When there’s nothing on TV at night, I’ll put something on Netflix or throw a DVD/Bluray movie on. When I don’t feel like watching anything at all, I’ll play video games on the PS3 at night.

During the day is when I’ll play guitar and work on music, or working out at the gym. I can’t wait for the warm weather to come back this Spring, so I can do my outside cardio. I miss doing that.
