Report: Deniro/Pacino to play Dean Martin, not Frank Sinatra…

Reports have hit the web that Martin Scorsese says he wants Robert Deniro to play Dean Martin and Al Pacino as Frank Sinatra. No. That’s not that what Mr. Scorsese told everyone. Re-read Scorsese’s comment again:

I’m yet to spot the actor who can bring back Frank Sinatra alive on screen.  My choice is Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro as Dean Martin.”

What he’s saying is, that he haven’t yet found an actor to play Frank Sinatra. He made it clear he wants both Al Pacino and Robert Deniro to play Dean Martin.

Ah, the press and the movie industry, gotta love it when they take a director’s comments out of context. Reports mistakenly said that Scorsese wants Pacino to play Frank Sinatra such as this report here:

http://www.collider.com/2010/05/24/martin-scorsese-robert-de-niro-al-pacino-frank-sinatra-dean-martin/

Even the press can have bad reading comprehension.

Iron Man 2 was a really horrible film…wtf???

The cast was great. I like Robert Downey, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johannsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Garry Shandling, Sam Rockwell, etc. but even they couldn’t save this movie. It seemed that Jon Favreau hogged up most of the screen time than anybody else in this film which is what annoyed me the most. I absolutely loved the first “Iron Man” film, it was a brilliant film but I think Favreau just ruined the series. The acting was bad, writing was bad, terrible filming, etc. I can go on. Mickey Rourke’s villain charactter, Whiplash was very cool, but he wasn’t used much in the film. There was too much story, not enough action. When you see an Iron Man movie, you want to see a lot of action, I felt this movie failed to have that. This is the worst movie I’ve seen of 2010 so far. It’s nothing I would watch again.

Report: Road Runner and Wile E Coyote returning to the big screen in 3D cartoon shorts…beep, beep!

Warner Bros. has made three brand new Looney Tunes shorts featuring the characters of Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. The famous cartoon series where a hungry coyote tries to hunt down this bird that runs fast. The cartoons will be shown before the films “Cats and Dogs” sequel, “Legends of the Guardians”, and “Yogi Bear”. The shorts will only be seen for three minutes.

More on it here:

I’m pretty sure these Road Runner and Wile E Coyote shorts will get leaked to youtube at some point. Looking forward to seeing them. I love Road Runner and Wile E Coyote cartoons.

Report: Shia Labeouf and Harrison Ford both hate “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” too?

Not only that Shia openly admits to hating “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”, he is also admitting to hate “Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. Guess what folks? Shia isn’t alone on hating the new Indy movie. It seems that Harrison Ford even hates it himself. Although Harrison Ford himself haven’t spoken publicly trashing the movie, like he didn’t mind Shia passing the word for it. Now you figured out why George Lucas and Spielberg are planning to do Indy V, because they are trying to make a good Indy movie.

In my opinion, Shia shouldn’t blame himself. It wasn’t him that ruined the movie. I believe it was the writing, too much CGI. Maybe the public didn’t like the idea of mixing Indiana Jones with Science Fiction when it should focus on history. “Crystal Skull” felt too much of a popcorn movie instead of a serious movie like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The Last Crusade”. Plus the most popular complaint about the film of them all is when Indy hides in a refrigerator to protect himself from an atomic bomb. I’ll agree that the scene was kind of silly, but I think the rest of the movie was fine. Honestly, I actually liked Indy IV “Crystal Skull”. It wasn’t a bad film, I liked the idea of mixing Indy with sci-fi, it made it a different Indy movie. It was entertaining, that’s all it is. I think Lucas had too much Star Wars mixed into Indy, that could be what it is.

When these guys start to do Indy 5, lets hope they make it right so Indy fans can be happy. They need to make the next Indy film more like, “Raiders/The Last Crusade”. They need to keep away from the popcorn CGI baloney and make it a serious Indy film. I hope they make the next one real good so they won’t get a backlash by the haters again. I have a feeling though, Lucas and Spielberg will probably make Indy V a popcorn film again, wouldn’t surprise me. Lucas and Spielberg are a couple of HUGE egos who don’t care what the fans want to see, yet they only amuse themselves with their film making.

What the new “Superman” movie needs to be successful…

How do you make a “Superman” movie successful? Simply put, it needs to be right. It needs to stay true to the Superman comics and give what the fans want.

In my belief, here is what fans want to see in the upcoming Superman flick that WB’s and Christopher Nolan is planning:

  • Keep the John Williams main opening title theme song – They need to keep this theme song. Without it the movie would bomb terribly. If they had a different score composer do a different theme song, it would create a huge backlash from fans. You know, the music where they show outer space and the text just fly at you through the stars. They need to keep that
  • Less Lois Lane and Clark Kent/Superman romance – Haven’t we’ve seen enough of this already?
  • Keep the Marlon Brando flashback, make it longer, and make it have more meaning and more powerful. The Marlon Brando sequence for “Superman: Returns” was special but it needs to be better. I think Christopher Nolan could help WB’s make that scene better.
  • Good acting with Lex Luthor – If they’re going to use Lex Luthor as a villain in the next one which they probably will, I’d suggest they find an actor with talent. It shouldn’t be Kevin Spacey again. They really need a special actor who can make this Lex Luthor role to be good enough for an Oscar potential. Maybe good enough to top Heath Ledger’s Joker at least.
  • Use a villain that hasn’t been used in any of the films before – Brainiac is a perfect choice. Hope they use him.
  • Make it action packed – The action in Bryan Singer’s “Superman: Returns” was pretty good but honestly there wasn’t a lot of action in that movie. It focused more on the story and the Lois Lane/Superman romance. Christopher Nolan will probably make this new movie action packed and violent just like his Batman flicks. The movie needs to be a fun action ride at the edge of your seat just like “The Dark Knight” was.
  • Superman needs to save people – Again there wasn’t a whole lot of this in “Superman:  Returns”. Superman needs to save more people in Metropolis.
  • The Superman/Clark Kent actor shouldn’t be a big name star, should be an unknown. Christopher Reeve was an unknown when he got signed for “Superman- The Movie”, they need to do the same for the next one.
  • Make the movie long – “The Dark Knight” was quite a long flick, pretty much a little over 2 and a half hours. “Superman Returns” was about that long too. The next movie should be long. If it’s going to be a short 90 minute film, that would dissapoint Superman fans.
  • Have great sounds and great special effects – I’m sure there would be both. I especially expect the next Supes flick to have great theater surround sound. Imagine loud crashing sounds and explosions that could sound like a rumble of thunder through your speakers. Aaaaaaahhhhh, I love that. For example, Superman fighting Brainiac in Metropolis, crashing into buildings and all that fun stuff. Just imagine that fight scene Brainiac vs. Superman. This is why I hope they use Brainiac ’cause that would be an awesome villain.

Enjoy.

Kev

Edit to add: I thought I would add a nice video from the “Superman” cartoon where Superman fights Brainiac. Imagine if there was a live action version of the Brainiac vs. Superman fight scene on the big screen. See how cool Brainiac would be as the next villain.

Finally saw “Bruno” last night, brief review here…

For the first time, I finally saw the movie, “Bruno” on DVD last night. I’ll have to say that I was quite impressed with the movie, it actually wasn’t that bad. I liked it. It wasn’t actually a comedy I saw. I saw it as more of a serious movie and it was very political. Sacha Baron Cohen plays an Austrian gay fashion reporter who dreams of becoming a famous celebrity. So he does whatever it takes to become famous. Be it, either at a fashion show, trying to get captured by terrorists, adopting a baby, a sex tape with Ron Paul, etc. All those crazy things don’t even work so he keeps trying. There was humor in the film, but I think Sacha Baron Cohen was trying to send a political message with this Bruno character. The film seemed like it was focusing on the world of current events in the news. Terrorism, war, celebrities adopting babies, gay marriage, etc. The material in the movie maybe a bit on the wild side, but without the crazy content the movie would be nothing. Sacha Baron Cohen is NOT gay in real life, this is just a fictional character he created. Sacha Baron Cohen has been involved with Isla Fischer for years now and just married her earlier this year.

I think the message that Sacha is trying to send is that he is trying to mock and humiliate the homosexuality world that has been all over entertainment media and politics as of late. I am not gay and you don’t have to be to watch this movie. There’s a lot of shock factor in this movie, but there is a reason why this movie is so crazy. It’s not a comedy at all, that’s why it is not as funny as “Borat”. It’s a satire, a movie about something real. If you’re scared to watch this movie, don’t be. It was actually kind of inspiring. Sacha is a controversial person and you just never know what he’ll come up with next. Check this movie out, good film.

Report: Rambo to go on without Sly?

Well, Sylvester Stallone himself responded to “Rambo V” rumours immediately after the poster was spotted at Cannes. Sly himself tells AICN, that he’s definitely done with Rambo for good. However, he says Miramax can feel free to go on without him if they want to continue the franchise.

More on it here:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45076

Does this mean that there will be a Rambo “prequel” or a “reboot” on the way? I would prefer a “prequel” of First Blood, instead of a “remake”. A prequel to “Rambo: First Blood”, the first one would be interesting. They could hire a younger actor to play John Rambo. A younger actor that looks similar to Sly. It be interesting if a Rambo prequel actually shows his days during the Vietnam War. “Rambo V” without Sly starring as Rambo and him not directing wouldn’t work. So this leaves open the possibility of a “prequel” or a “remake” is on the way.

If you think Rambo can’t go on without Sly, maybe it can. “Terminator: Salvation” went on without Arnold being in the lead, and that film was successful. So maybe it can work, never know.

BREAKING NEWS: Warner Bros. fights back for Superman rights!!!

Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan are about ready to get a new “Supes” flick off the ground. So in order to save the franchise, Warner Bros. files suit against the lawyer who represents  the Jerome Siegel heirs, Marc Toberoff. A while back, the Siegel heirs sued Warner Bros. to get full copyrights of the “Superman” character. The Siegel heirs won half of the copyright by owning half of the Superman material while Warner Bros. still owns the other half. The Siegel estate ordered WB’s studios that if they don’t get the new Superman movie made by 2011, they will own full copyright of the Superman franchise.  Look like Warner Bros. still wants full copyright of the franchise, so the new Superman movie can be made the right way.

I can’t blame them. I wish WB’s luck and I’m sure they will win this battle. I would like to see a new Superman movie made with WB’s owning full copyrights. I’ll be keeping an eye on this news. I’m a die hard Superman fan more than I am with Batman. Love the Superman franchise so much!

The A-Team vs. The Expendables, which movie will be more successful???

This is one of the most popular arguments and debates in Hollywood right now. “The A-Team” remake vs. “The Expendables”, which film will make the most money in the box office this summer? Some of you may wonder what my thoughts are on this. What do I think will win in the box-office? Honestly, this answer may shock some of you. Knowing that I’m a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone and tough guy action stars…sorry to say…but I’m gonna go with…

The A-Team…

Yes, that’s right. I said it. “The A-Team” will be more successful than “The Expendables”. “The Expendables” will do well in the box office, but they won’t do great. “The Expendables” will never be as big as “Avatar” or the “Dark Knight” if that’s what everyone is hoping. NO fucking way. I think “The Expendables” will do average in the box office just like the last “Rocky” and “Rambo” did average.

Why would the “A-Team” be more successful? Simply because, the original “A-Team” series was such a popular hit on TV back in those days. “The A-Team” movie would be something for the entire family to watch, while the “Expendables” would have an audience mostly of 20-30 something colleged aged males who loves action movies and tough guys. “The A-Team” is a family action film. See my point? “The A-Team” would be a huge box office money maker for many reasons. Not only it would be a family action film, it seems that remakes are hits these days. “The A-Team” would be a movie that a lot of women would see just to see Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper play in the film.

Why would the “Expendables” fail? Simply because, not many people want to see old washed up muscle has beens all in one movie. The only people that do want to see the film is their fellow bodybuilders who aren’t famous, young college guys, and the few action movie fans that are left around. Plus, I don’t think a lot of people would pay just to see Sly, Arnie and Bruce in a really small scene when everyone wants to see them throughout the entire movie.

I’m betting my money that the A-Team will do very good. I look forward to seeing both films, don’t get me wrong. Don’t expect Stallone to be successful with this one. Honestly, the plot and the acting in the “Expendables” looks kinda silly when the “A-Team” looks more interesting. I’ve always been a huge “A-Team” fan my whole life so of course, I will see this one in theater too. The only reason, “The Expendables” will make some bucks is because of all them stars in one movie. I’m very sure “The Expendables” would bomb terribly if Sly hired a cast full of unknown actors, instead of a movie full of icons.
